Yankees plan moment of silence for Freddy Sez

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Oct 18, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

To celebrate the life of Freddy “Sez” Schuman, the Yankees will ask for  a moment of silence before tonight’s ALCS Game 3. The Yankees will also have some of Schuman’s memorabilia on display inside Game Gate 4 prior to the game. Some of Schuman’s clothes and signs will be on display, along with his pan and spoon, which fans will be able to bang together.

The items will remain on display throughout the postseason, and they will eventually become part of the New York Yankees Museum in Yankee Stadium.

“Freddy ‘The Fan’ Schuman was an iconic Yankees fan who brought life, youthful exuberance and cheer to Yankee Stadium,” the team said in a released statement. “The energy and excitement that resonates throughout the Stadium during a Yankees game is made that way by our fans, and Freddy was one of the conductors that could be counted on to bring our orchestra of fans together. Freddy endeared himself to all those he came in contact with, and we send our deepest condolences to his family and his thousands of friends.”

0 Days, 2 Hours, 15 Minutes until Game 3 of the ALCS.

    RIP Freddy

The Yankees continue to show why they’re the best, total class, on and off the field.

  3. Doreen October 18th, 2010 at 5:48 pm

That was a nice statement by the Yankees.

I’ll be there, so if you guys find out a location to check out the memorabilia I’d appreciate it.

    RIP Freddy.

    LGY,

Fact. Cliff Lee is a greedy turd blossom.

If you think the Yankees were willing to trade Montero WITHOUT extending Lee, then YOU are the one who is OUT THERE in LF.

So the Yankees tried to trade for Johan Santana a few years back AND extend him.

They tried to do the same with Halladay, trade for AND extend.

    Get your facts straight.

    LEE LOVER

    Doreen

Are the chicken meals still in effect?

  7. Jerkface October 18th, 2010 at 5:51 pm

If the yankees deal fell through because they couldn’t extend Lee, information would have come out in that regard. It didn’t.

  8. LGY October 18th, 2010 at 5:53 pm

You forgot to mention in the offseason like I said.

Fortunately I’m out in LF with Brett Gardner while you are out in fantasy LF with Carl Crawford ;)

It’s not in the Yankees interests to look cheap.

It’s not in Lee’s interest to look greedy.

It wasn’t in Seattle’s interest to look like they had no other option and that Lee was determined not to sign an extension with any team that acquired him.

  10. Jerkface October 18th, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Yankees do not sign extensions midseason, they would not look cheap Lee could simply say he wants to test FA because he never has, your theory has too many holes.

  11. m October 18th, 2010 at 5:56 pm

    Let’s try this again.

What a nice thing for the Yankees to do.

    Doreen,

I do have that cookbook. :)

So what will Cliffie Lee’s postseason E.R.A. jump to after he becomes a Yankee ?

    As high as C.C. Sabathia’s ?

  15. Bret The Hitman October 18th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

The Yankees do not sign midseason extensions with players under contract with the team. If you trade Montero and you’re the Yankees you had better get an extension in place for your new acquisition.

  16. Doreen October 18th, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Mine’s literally falling apart. I may have to get a new one. I think I’ve made about 85% of the recipes in there.

Never tried the Gingerbread Notre Dame, though. :?

Thats not how they operate. They are not going to piss off every yankee great in the past 10 years who had to wait till after the season for a new contract.

You’re taking the wrong angle on this one.

  19. Doreen October 18th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

My goodness, the Yankees’ family has lost so many this season.

  20. Bronx Jeers October 18th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Freddy always started his “tour” in the upper deck and worked his way down.

For a few seasons I had Friday night seats in upper reserved sec 16. We’d always go early to try and avoid the evening crush on the 4 train.

Freddy was always already there sitting in first row of our section waiting for the fans to trickle in. I sort of felt honored that he chose my section as his “home”

  21. LGY October 18th, 2010 at 6:03 pm

It was specifically reported that the Yankees did not request a negotiation window and if they did it would run contra to their entire policy while pissing off 2 of the greatest Yankees of all time who are waiting to get extended.

Take off the tin foil hat dude.

  22. m October 18th, 2010 at 6:04 pm

    Doreen,

Did you see my post about the cookbook in the last thread? If not you should read it. Swallow any beverages you are consuming at the time first, though.

    *******

There’s no precedent. None whatsoever. They did not have to trade a top prospect for Bernie, Jeter, Andy, Mo or Posada. So why would those guys be ticked off if the Yankees wanted extra insurance for trading a top prospect for a player in a contract year?

To say that the Mariners backed out over David fargin Adams ignores the larger story that trading one of the top prospects for a player without extending him is a HUGE risk.

    You bought the story.

You want to believe Cliff Lee is Mr. Nice Guy.

    Good for you.

  24. LGY October 18th, 2010 at 6:06 pm

The Mariners backed out because they valued and wanted Smoak more than Jesus.
Your the one buying the bs story about Adams out out there.

  25. MG October 18th, 2010 at 6:06 pm

Bret, have you ever been right about anything related to a trade, either imagined or real?

  26. KPB October 18th, 2010 at 6:07 pm

    Doreen

Glad to hear it, I was going ahead with my menu. Just wanted to make sure if it was still for the team or if it was because I already fixed it and had to eat it. Speaking of chicken dance enjoy the video.

To say that the Mariners backed out over David fargin Adams ignores the larger story that trading one of the top prospects for a player without extending him is a HUGE risk.

There is precedent in that all those players wanted deals midseason and did not get them, and were just as likely to walk to another team than sign with the Yankees. Jeter, Posada, Bernie, and Mo all got the yankees for extra millions and years from that.

The Mariners backed out because they got Justin Smoak, not because of David Adams.

You have literally no evidence to back up your side of the story.

Not wanting to negotiate sn extension has nothing to do with your character. I don’t care for Cliff personally, but I don’t think he’s a bad guy.

Texeira refused to negotiate with the Rangers, Braves, and the Angels. I think most would agree he’s a great guy.

  31. Jerkface October 18th, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Ohh the ignore bin, where most of your Gardner trade proposals go! Fun!

  32. West Coast Yankee Fan October 18th, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Chicken obviously didn’t work game two. I’ll leave the voodoo to others and cook to enjoy.

On the menu tonight. Pappardelle with a short rib and porcini mushroom ragout, topped with a dollop of goat cheese. To drink, a 2005 Araujo Estate Cabernet – Eisele Vineyard.

    GO YANKEES!

  33. Bret The Hitman October 18th, 2010 at 6:11 pm

    M,

To an extent. You don’t want to alienate a fan base if you might need them as a price driver when you declare free agency.

Also, if Lee came out outright and said he would not sign an extension under any circumstances, it screws the Mariners. Lee was a Mariner at the time, mind you.

  56. Bret The Hitman October 18th, 2010 at 6:33 pm

    m,

I’m not in the mood for love tonight.

I’ve got no love for Cliff Lee.

    I guess it’s just difficult.

I never took to Clemens nor Randy Johnson. They’re abrasive and they used to beat us all the time. After Damon hit that grand slam against us, it was hard to like him as well. It took a couple years with him. Cliff Lee hurt us last year in the post season and could hurt us tonight and Yankees fans all of a sudden love him and glaze over the fact that he’s a mercenary of the highest order just like the names I mentioned before him.

If someone complains about you poking him/her in the arm, the best way to make them like you is not to apologize for poking their arm while continue poking.

Nor does trying to explain why the poking shouldn’t bother him/her help much.

The most effective thing to do is stop poking.

  61. SJ44 October 18th, 2010 at 6:37 pm

To put this thread out of it’s misery, I called Lee’s agent.

Actually, I had other business with him today but, while I had him in the line, I shot him Bret’s theory.

After he was done laughing, he said there was no truth to it.

The trade fell through because of the facts that have been reported. The Mariners liked Smoak instead of Montero.

In fact, Lee was so sure of the trade to the Yankees, he and his wife were going to take CC’s wife’s recommendation of the house she picked out for them sight unseen.

I know it wont satisfy your self-created conspiracy theory but, those are the facts.

Do with them as you wish.

  62. Jerkface October 18th, 2010 at 6:38 pm

glaze over the fact that he’s a mercenary of the highest order just like the names I mentioned before him.

He has never been a free agent, he was incredibly hurt when the phillies traded him to Seattle, how exactly is he a mercenary? You’re giving him characteristics which he has not exhibited. He wanted the Indians to build a team around him, but they were too cheap so they decided to trade him. He took a team to the WS and they turned around and dumped him for a ‘better pitcher’ when they did not even have to trade him to get Halladay.

He gets dumped onto a crap team, pitches his brains out for them, gets nothing in return, and then gets served up by his GM at the deadline. He thought he was going to his good friends team, but instead gets tossed onto Texas, where his chances of advancing were much slimmer.

You’ve completely, 100% misread everything relating to Cliff Lee.

  63. m October 18th, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Personally, I’m sick of seeing his name AND hearing about him.

Hopefully the Yankees can take care of that by beating the crap out of him tonight. Sorry to be so crude.

  64. West Coast Yankee Fan October 18th, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Doreen – I’m a food snob I admit it, I hate crap. I have leftover short ribs so with fresh pasta this takes ten minutes from start to finish.

Then the Yankees are stupid for trading Montero for a player in a contract year looking for CC money.
