Congratulations to today’s winners of postseason Guess the Line Up!!!!!!!!!!

They are rb from LI and Cashmoney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all who played. We had 17 players and a lot of variations.

  2. Erica in NY October 22nd, 2010 at 4:57 pm

0 Days, 3 hours, and 3 Minutes until Game 6 of the ALCS

  3. Gary October 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 pm

It was earlier in my life, but I wonder if anyone remembers the Spahn, Sain and two days of rain chant that the Braves used. The previous thread made me for some reason remember that.

  4. indy42 October 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Not much difference, but I agree with swapping Berkman and Posada. Berkman has shown (marginally) better performance in drawing walks and getting hits.

Just finished a Physics test and pumped for today’s game! Let’s go Bombers!!!

  5. Doreen October 22nd, 2010 at 5:00 pm

The variations must have been fun, Erica!

    :)

What time would Game 7 be?

  6. rb from LI October 22nd, 2010 at 5:01 pm

Yay! Hopefully this lineup is a winner for the Yanks. :)

  7. Bring in the Goose October 22nd, 2010 at 5:01 pm

That is one impressive lineup, even without Tex.

    Mashers everywhere.

Let’s hope they deliver up to their abilities.

  8. Gary October 22nd, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Getting off to a good start is key tonight. Depends what you define a good start as, but either holding Texas and Hamilton off the board or the Yanks jumping out to an early lead fits my description.

  9. KPB October 22nd, 2010 at 5:03 pm

    Doreen

    Game 7 is at 8:00

  10. Cashmoney October 22nd, 2010 at 5:03 pm

    I won !!! :)

  11. Erin October 22nd, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Cashmoney-I should have copied you today! ;)

  12. Chambliss October 22nd, 2010 at 5:05 pm

To me, a good start is getting the first run of the game. Try to take the crowd out of it. Give Hughes something to work with, even one run.

  13. Gary October 22nd, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Goose, Tex was overdue. Sad he’s not in there for him personally, but I did think he was on the verge of breaking out at the plate. Brinkman isn’t Tex so we stand to lose alot with Tex not in there.

  14. Cashmoney October 22nd, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Erin, even the blind squirrel… though I agree with G’s decision to put Berkman fifth, he really has swung the bat better than anyone else besides Cano and Granderson.

  15. Shame Spencer October 22nd, 2010 at 5:07 pm

So what is everyone else doing to kill the next 3 hours? I need suggestions..

  16. Bring in the Goose October 22nd, 2010 at 5:07 pm

I remember the grand slam Berkman hit off of Farnsworth in a NLCS, I believe.

He took an outside FB and punched it out over the LF wall.

One of the most impressive oppo shots I’ve seen.

Don’t underestimate Lance’s ability to cover the plate, and hit for power…

  17. Gary October 22nd, 2010 at 5:08 pm

Chambliss, agree 100%. I like your handle, I was in the stands when Chris hit that walk off to send the Yanks to the series over KC. It was a moment Yankee fans won’t forget.

  18. Gary October 22nd, 2010 at 5:09 pm

Shame going fishing, it’s 90 here in Florida. Go Yanks

  19. RadioKev October 22nd, 2010 at 5:09 pm

Berkman does seem to be hitting the ball hard with more consistency, and he’s a decent 1B. How glad is Cashman right now?

Much happier than with the Johnson situation I expect.

  21. Bring in the Goose October 22nd, 2010 at 5:10 pm

What I like about Berkman at # 5 is that he takes pitches, so you can’t pitch around Alex and think you can toss DP balls to a free-swinger at #5.

Berkman may be slow afoot, but he’s patient.

I foresee a scenario or two where both Alex and Lance are on board, 1st and 2nd.

    Being positive, here.

guys… I do not post much but enjoy reading your comments… I live in the dfw metroplex and this has been a tough week of antler and claw junk all in my face. I pray we (the yanks) win tonight because I will be there for game 7.

It’s a luxury when you can roll the dice as often as he does, I suppose. I think Johnson’s injury was probably the least shocking moment of this season.

  27. blackaccord October 22nd, 2010 at 5:18 pm

we hvae to crush a pitcher who is 12-13 in a hitter’s park… Washington might pull him soon enough to put holland and kirkman in the game…We need to keep tacking on runs and hope hughes holds it for us.. Its essentially a 6 inning game to get to Wood and Mo… I have full faith in them to hold the lead for us..

  28. Doreen October 22nd, 2010 at 5:18 pm

    Thanks, KPB.

  29. Jim October 22nd, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Aside from Cano the way he is hitting right now I don’t think I’d want anyone else up before Posada. The guy has done nothing but deliver big hits in the playoffs and Girardi bats him 7th? 7th? What has Swisher done to warrant batting ahead of Jorge? What has Berkman done? I just don’t understand it.

  30. Don Vito A. Bellamo October 22nd, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Yankee win 7-1 tonight and then it is ON to Game 7, where Mr. Lee’s string of basic “perfection” runs out at JUST the right time ! GO YANKEES ! :-)

  31. LGY October 22nd, 2010 at 5:23 pm

    Love this lineup.

Cano Grandy and Berk are swinging the bat the best on the team right now and they are all in the top half of the lineup. It will be tough to come away damage free pitching to those 3 in such close succession.

Also Lewis got hit around pretty good this year the 3rd time through the order so you want those guys at the top to maximize how many times they see him.

Washington will have a quick hook. They failed to really capitalize on Hunter before he was yanked and it came back to bite them. They have to get to Lewis immediately if he gets in trouble.

  32. Shame Spencer October 22nd, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Oh man, I wish I could fish..

  33. Jim October 22nd, 2010 at 5:24 pm

elijahandstephensdad, glad you posted, can you give us a feel of the confidence level in Texas for tonight’s game? Are the fans thinking it’s going to be closed out tonight or are the assuming Lee will bring them home?

  34. Betsy October 22nd, 2010 at 5:24 pm

I think we’re going to need to score a bunch of runs tonight………here’s hoping!

  35. West Coast Yankee Fan October 22nd, 2010 at 5:32 pm

A-Rod – good luck getting a good pitch to hit.

  36. LGY October 22nd, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    Jim,

I am one of the biggest Posada defenders on here and he has had some key clutch hits this postseason, but Berkman is swinging the bat much better.

    Berk: .308 AVG, .990 OPS
    Jorge: .259 AVG, .607 OPS

Swisher is in front of Posada, because he was better vs LHP this year and the Rangers will bring in a lefty to face Berk late in the game.

Swish vs LHP: .294 AVG, .848 OPS
Jorge vs LHP: .257 AVG, .833 OPS

  37. YankFanCA October 22nd, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Better yet, A-Rod, don’t miss the opportunity when you get a good pitch to hit.

  38. LGY October 22nd, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Also and actually more important than the LH thing is Swisher’s and Jorge’s performance vs RHP this year.

Swish vs RHP: .285 AVG, .877 OPS
Jorge vs RHP: .243 AVG, .799 OPS

Scratch that thing about lefty reliever. It is maybe part of the decision, but this is the main reason why with Colby, a RHP on the mound.

  39. blake October 22nd, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Berkman is swinging the bat really well right now…even having good ABs right handed. I like hitting him behind Arod because he’s consisently had good ABs pretty much whenever he’s been in the lineup. I liked either Berkman or Granderson there…

That’s a good and deep lineup even without Tex.

A-Rod – good luck getting a good pitch to hit.
    ———————————————————
Considering that in game 2 Berkman lined out hard to right, singled to drive in a run and walked in his 3 ABs against Lewis your contention, as always, is about as correct as those of Ruby Tuesday.

  41. LGY October 22nd, 2010 at 5:41 pm

This is how our 2-5 hitters performed vs RHP this season:

    Grandy: .253 AVG, .866 OPS
    Cano: .337 AVG, .944 OPS
    Alex: .290 AVG, .882 OPS
    Berk: .267 AVG, .846 OPS
    Swish: .285 AVG, .877 OPS

Keep in mind Grandy and Berk made some adjustments and have been mashing RHP since.

Colby is going to have to run the gauntlet 2-5 in this order. LGY likes :)

  42. MG October 22nd, 2010 at 5:42 pm

I’m not the world’s biggest Girardi fan but I support him moving Berkman up in the lineup, he has, as blake noted, swung the bat really well in the post-season and is a patient, professional hitter.
