Just an early heads up. I’m sure we’ll have a reminder as we get closer to the event, but the Yankees sent this announcement this week and I wanted to pass it along.

Yankee Stadium will host a very special “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

All in attendance will be able to enjoy a hot breakfast buffet at Hard Rock Cafe, a personal photo with Santa Claus and an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium. Each child in attendance will receive a special gift bag directly from the North Pole.

Fans interested in attending “Breakfast with Santa” at Yankee Stadium must register in advance by visiting www.yankees.com/santa, calling 646-977-8400 or e-mailing events@yankees.com. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. The cost to attend is $60 per person or $200 for a family of four.

WHAT: BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

DATE: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2010, AND SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2010

PLACE: HARD ROCK CAFE YANKEE STADIUM

Can’t believe Romine let that fastball clank off his glove. Come on, man, you’re supposed to have the defensive tools !

I hope he takes a step forward next year. He can’t keep living off the POTENTIAL of the glove. That kind of makes me think he becomes trade bait. If the Yankees have to live with below average defense, I’d expect they’d rather take the bat of Montero over Romine.

  3. Carl November 6th, 2010 at 10:25 pm

    He’ll be ok.

    Him and Montero.

  4. BX33 November 6th, 2010 at 10:26 pm

    Agree, Jerkface.

Are you implying CC is playing the role of Santa, Chad? ;)

  6. blake November 6th, 2010 at 10:41 pm

First time seeing ManBan tonight and really liked what I saw. Very good action and arm speed on his change and seems to have pretty good command and life on the fastball. He threw and great sequence and painted up a very good hitter in Ackley in that first inning. Looked good.

Laird looked pretty descent in the outfield from what I saw.

Nice piece of hitting by Romine and he looks good.behind the plate…needs to cut down the PBs but that correctable..

He didn’t look bad, did he? I expected him to be slower and less agile out there. I know his bat is worthy, and he is acceptable at 3B, but he was better in the OF in that short stint than I expected.

  8. GreenBeret7 November 6th, 2010 at 10:58 pm

Gutierrez with a mid 90s sinker is more like Wang than he is Derek Lowe. Low walks, low strikeouts.

  9. GreenBeret7 November 6th, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Tony Sanchez replaces Romine behind the plate.

  10. GreenBeret7 November 6th, 2010 at 11:22 pm

Those last three pitches to Laird were just nasty. 99,99, and 101 on the corners. OUCH.

  11. GreenBeret7 November 6th, 2010 at 11:22 pm

Too close to take and too hard to hit.

I’d like to have seen some camera work on Romine’s eyes when he’s catching, just to see if he’s blinking or closing his eyes on the fast balls. Those are the pitches that he usually drops or boxes.

They sign Soriano and Lee, maybe Crawford or Werth, and trade prospects for a SS. They’ would be fine.

  18. Jerkface November 7th, 2010 at 12:02 am

I think they’d start Nunez , sign Lee and Soriano.

Hi everyone! This is my first post on this Yankees fan site. Since the season ended I’ve been having really bad insomnia so I guess I’ll be here up late at night surfing the board mostly reading people’s opinions. I think this is an interesting place so I will be reading your thoughts.

    Welcome back, CR9!

  21. Lost November 7th, 2010 at 12:19 am

It’s like watching the kids play ball down the street but in uniform and bright lights. I’m really into watching the players of tomorrow (top prospects or not). So much fun to watch a game of baseball without having preconceived expectations of a player.

Welcome ! Overall, this is a pretty solid place to be. There are the occasional internet annoyances, but for the most part we are all very passionate about the Yankees. A lot of people here are very informative and not a lot about the game as well as the Yanks. Feel free to not just read, but also contribute, the more people in the discussion the better (well, most of the time!).

I miss Chien-Ming Wang. Stupid national league rules injuring our players.

  36. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 12:54 am

Watching Hal Newhouser pitch in Game 3 of the ’54 series brings to mind that he almost cost the yankees Derek Jeter. Jeter would have been an Astro if Newhouser had his way. Quite an infield that would have been. Bagwell at first, Biggio at 2nd and Jeter at shortstop.

  37. BIG AL November 7th, 2010 at 1:00 am

    OK then, good night.

I see CR9 found his way back to the blog.

  40. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 1:12 am

Al, tough to tell. Not a lot of tough plays. Sort of like Laird in left, hard to say how well he plays in left without many tough plays. The anderson kid seems to have a decent bat but, a few flies dropped in front of him on defense. Adams, unless it was just a bad day was less than impressive at third and Romine’s issues haven’t really changed in 3 years. Still can’t catch a fast ball cleanly.

  41. CR9 November 7th, 2010 at 1:16 am

No, Firetheumpire is not another of my 20 screen names on here. :)

Ive taken a break from posting on the blog for a while, but still read it.

  42. P November 7th, 2010 at 1:29 am

very surprised the jeter deal was not completed this weekend. even if Casey Close pulls a Boras/Damon on his client, Jeter will square up.

I just don’t see how a 37 year old player that’s loved expects to get paid and years of a 27 year old.. just plain outrageous!

seriously jete we love ya but 3/45 w/milestone achievement bonuses is beyond fair.. even if giants were VERY interested they aren’t paying over 12 mil per season.. for frog sake man, just be happy that NYY aren’t like the redsox otherwise you’d get a 3/27 tops and a pat on the butt with a “we wish u all the best” with ur new club.

Get over it Casey, this isn’t sentimental big bucks george’s team anymore.. and Hal/Hank are being very loyal and xtra generous offering 3 years for even if it was 3/38

stop acting like a greedy stuck pig Mr. Close!!!!

  43. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 1:34 am

Give it a rest. You have no clue as to what, if anything was asked for and no clue as to what if, anything was offered. Or, is The Amazing Kresking channelling through you to let you know the details.

  44. Lost November 7th, 2010 at 1:43 am

    GB7:

I was expect the Jeter deal to get done by this weekend. This is one that the longer it lingers the more of a stink it makes. From what I’ve heard is that they’ve been very active talking already and the Yanks prefer to have it done by tomorrow. If it’s not, then it’s because they are far off.

I do think P. is being a bit dramatic, but Casey Close is expecting a grand slam here based on intangibles. No pun intended.

I’m off to sleep. When sentence structure is as bad as above, the goose is cooked.

  46. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 1:56 am

The information that I have is that the Yankees have been busy trying to wrap up a real deal They plan to announce the signing of david Mantle to a long term, multi-million dollar deal to play center field for NYYs. Jeter’s contract will be dealt with within the month.

  47. MTU November 7th, 2010 at 7:13 am

    Good Morning.

Here’s a few dates to keep in mind with respect to the Hot Stove season:

•November 7th – Free agents can negotiate with any team
    •November 16th-17th – GM Meetings, Orlando, Florida
•November 23rd – Deadline for teams to offer arbitration to their own free agents
•November 30th – Deadline for players to accept or decline arbitration offers from their former teams
•December 2nd – Deadline for teams to tender contracts to arbitration eligible players
•December 6th-9th – Winter Meetings, Lake Buena Vista, Florida
•January 18th – Teams and players exchange salary arbitration figures

  48. MTU November 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am

I don’t generally read what the “mediots” have to say, except for Chad and Sam of course, but here’s a link from Madden on “plan B”
should the Yanks fail to sign Lee.

Basically he seems to imply there isn’t one. Fat chance of that being true.

Actually, I’m celebrating today. Leaving soon.

  53. blake November 7th, 2010 at 7:41 am

    MTu,

Did you get to watch? I really enjoyed it. ManBan didn’t disappoint….it was a small sample but I really liked what I saw. He seems to generate velocity pretty easily for a guy his size and has pretty good command of his fastball.. that change up though is what could make him special…great action and arm speed.

Also thought Laird and Romine looked pretty good. Romine moves well behind the plate but he does have to work on the pass balls….I don’t know if its just a concentration lapse or what but GB has been talking about it all year…

SJ’s boy looks like a natural back there…..I think his future is bright.

  54. blake November 7th, 2010 at 7:42 am

    MTU,

Oh and happy birthday man! Hope the wife is making your favorite pie today ;)

  55. pat November 7th, 2010 at 7:44 am

    Good morning.

The business section of the Dallas Morning News filled in a few blanks of the financials being debated about the Texas Rangers:

The ownership group consists of 30+ people with more than 50% of the money coming from 2 guys who made their fortunes in the energy industry. Ryan and Greenberg are the front men but not the money men.

The new TV deal starts in 2015 (the 5th year of a Cliff Lee contract  ) and is worth $80M a year – the current TV/Radio deal brought in $60M last year.

Rangers revenues in 2009 were $167M and they showed a $12M loss on that. Sports economist Andrew Zimbalist estimates a $12-$14M dollar boost in that for 2010 because of the Rangers success and an additional $15M carry-over into the 2011 season from increased ticket sales/signage/ sponsorships.

There will be more money spent too. Payroll added to the $55M in 2010 on free agents and existing players raises, all front office personnel will be added into MLBs pension system and upgrades are planned to the ballpark estimated at $20M.

The Rangers have a very low season ticket holder bases- 8000 plans sold last year. More than doubling that base and sustaining it beyond the afterglow of 1 WS appearance will likely determine the long term financial security of a team that has aspirations to spend with the big boys and field a winning team consistently.

    Blake-

yeah. it came as pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect to be able to see the game.

Agree on Banuelos. Gotta love the CU. Guess they mature early in Mexico.

Laird looked Ok in the OF- SU guy ?

Romine does need to cut down on the PB’s. Just needs some polishing.

  58. MTU November 7th, 2010 at 7:49 am

    Doreen-

Thanks. Glad to see you are still lurking. Don’t let the bad guys chase you off.

    Blake-

    Thanks El Mucho.

  59. blake November 7th, 2010 at 7:52 am

    Pat,

Thanks for that. It really seems like it would be a risk for them to go where the Yankees likely will in the bidding for Lee. With the money they will likely have to spend in the coming years to keep that team together….seems giving Lee 25 million per could lead to Nicks/Arod part 2…..I guess we will see how.much they are willing to gamble of themselves increasing revenues.

  60. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 7:58 am

Texas is already shedding payroll. They really can’t afford to let Guerrero leave. he may not be able to play the field, but he can still hit. He made 49.5 mil this season and he had an option. He’s not taking less. lThe Texas pitching isn’t so great or so deep that they can unload offense. That’s going to give Lee second thoughts about the ability to keep that team together over the next 3 years.

  61. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 7:59 am

    ***$9.5 mil***

  62. MTU November 7th, 2010 at 8:00 am

    Gb-

Who stole that other 40 Mil.

    :)

  63. blake November 7th, 2010 at 8:01 am

Also, if what pat posted is correct then the Rangers new TV deal will have very little impact on their ability to pay him.

I think the Lee camp has made an effort to get it out there how comfortable Lee is in Texas in order to best assure that the Yankees will
    exceed the Rangers offer.

  64. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 8:01 am

I was disappointed in Romine’s defense last night, but not surprised. He still has the same issues with catching fast balls and that not only leads to passed balls, but more importantly, to all of the stolen bases.

  65. GreenBeret7 November 7th, 2010 at 8:03 am

MTU, that was “Killer” adding in his comments, not me. If he isn’t more careful, he’s not going to be allowed on here again. Either that or he gets his own computer and sign-in name. Getting tired of covering up his mistakes.

  66. blake November 7th, 2010 at 8:04 am

Bottom line: to.keep the current Ranger team together over Lee’s contract….Texas will.likely have to get into the big market payroll range….and they will have to increase and sustain revenues pretty significantly in order to do that…

  67. MTU November 7th, 2010 at 8:05 am

    GB-

I should have known. Usually he only posts when he knows you’ve passed out for the night.

  68. blake November 7th, 2010 at 8:13 am

    Gb,

You’ve seen Romine a lot more than I have but if those are the kinds of issues that he’s having (just whiffing on fastballs) then you have to think that’s correctable….maybe just concentration lapses?

Also, thought Laird looked fine in the outfiekd the little bit I saw him. He could be a valuable player for the Yankees if he can fill a corner infield and outfield utility role….

  69. BIG AL November 7th, 2010 at 8:13 am

    MTU -

I thought you couldn’t grt MLB channel, glad you got to see the game.

ManBan looks like the real deal. Romine not what I expected to see, thought he was the better catcher in the minor leagues.

  70. BIG AL November 7th, 2010 at 8:15 am

Laird show nothing with the bat last night, and looked bad his last AB.

  71. blake November 7th, 2010 at 8:15 am

I’ve seen Montero play a lot more than Romine.because Scrantons games are televised but I honestly don’t.see that much difference defensively between the two.

  72. Tim in Trenton November 7th, 2010 at 8:15 am

MTU, good for you, tear it up.

  73. pat November 7th, 2010 at 8:16 am

8000 season ticket plans is amazingly low for a team who averages almost 30,000 fans per game.

Very risky proposition but….. if the Ranger’s really wanted to show a commitment of sustained winning to Lee and their fanbase, they would buy out a few arbitration years from some guys who are likely to cost them significantly into the future- Hamilton, Wilson, etc….

  74. BIG AL November 7th, 2010 at 8:16 am

  93. Tim in Trenton November 7th, 2010 at 8:40 am

I think what it boils down to for the rangers is whether they will make several moves in the FA market or will they rely on their well stocked farm system for their team going forward. The new TV deal in four years only gives them an extra $ 20 mil. and their season tickets sales don’t look very good. Based on Pat’s post I think the Rangers are relying more on good will than hard dollars to land Lee.
