All quiet at the corner of Himes and Columbus

It should be a quiet weekend here in Tampa.

Yesterday, the media was told not to expect any sort of activity until Monday. When I drove by the Yankees minor league complex mid-morning, there were three cars in the Yankees parking lot, and the only activity on the fields seemed to be two groups of non-Yankees — looked like high school kids — going through drills and maybe preparing for a game.

This is the calm before … not the storm exactly, more like the gentle precipitation of light bullpen sessions and pitchers fielding practice. But at least it’s baseball.

Pitchers and catchers report in less than 48 hours.

That’s a picture I took two years ago at the minor league complex. I completely forgot I had it on this computer until a few minutes ago. It gives some idea of what the place looks like if you’re still curious.

the yankees (and every other team) should have interest in every player who has an even remote chance of playing in the major or high minor leagues and know everything that is knowable about them from thier contract status to which shoe they tend to tie first when it’s raining. it’s thier buisness.

“Seriously, I want a moratorium on trades.”

My guess is there probably is one….at least until the “Lee signed with Philly and Pettite retired so let’s try to screw the Yankees” stuff dies down.

When trying to project who Brian Cashman might be interested in adding, I find it most helpful to look for guys who have been injured for a year or more, not seen the majors for a year or more, or sucked for a year or more.

If you cam find somebody who fits two of the three categories, you’ve hit the jackpot!

I fear the “big” trade. The safe arrival of Montero,Betances, Banuelos & Brackman to the Bronx will be like winning the World Series to me.Throw Sanchez in there, too.

I’m gonna be working at a hospital just a couple blocks away from Himes and Columbus. Can’t wait to get out of work and see Yankees all over the place.

there’s a weird kid in my section at the meadowlands who seems like he’s had a lobotomy or something.he’s got that ‘found religion’ look that makes him appear happy but there’s like something sinister (Carver-esque) underlying it or something.anyhow, this young guy,& his girlfriend, come to jets games & he tries to engage my wife, my brother & I into talking baseball with him.he is a Red Sox fan (I think he actually is a Mets fan who chose to root for the Red Sox when the Mets proved too impotent to unseat his true love/hate,the yanks)& he tried to get us to see his view of Boston as the best team in baseball, etc.It all started civilly enough, but his desperation for us to agree with him increased as the conversation went on.The guy couldn’t really advance his argument effectively with us,& we lost interest in what he was saying, so we politely withdrew on a civil note.As it was no longer baseball season after that,we just gave the standard ‘hellos’ you give to people in your section who sit near you,the ones you don’t really have a rapport with.well, when Boston got Crawford & AGon, this guy was shouting all over the section about this (clearly for our benefit)to the point where we decided he was a little unbalanced. When we ignored him completely,he finally in frustration thrusted some picture on his cell phone of either Crawford or AGon in our direction, and screamed in our faces the names “Crawfoooordddd!!” “AGONNN!”.We think this kid is unbalanced,& not very interested in the Jets.I wonder if he is Ruby Tuesday or YankeesNmore???this just occurred to me.

Awesome. St. Joes? I was at HCC on Dale Mabry forever and never saw a Yankee, though I hardly had the time to look unfortunately.

Always better to see Yankees outside the hospital than inside it.
