Alex Rodriguez press conference

We’re about to get started with the Alex Rodriguez press conference from the tent behind Steinbrenner Field. This time, there is no single pressing issue for Rodriguez to discuss, this is just an opportunity for him to address the media as a group in an organized setting.

UPDATE, 1:34 p.m.: Alex’s opening statement, “Did anyone watch the Super Bowl?”

UPDATE, 1:37 p.m.: Rodriguez said the past few years, he has been 60 to 70 percent rehab in the offseason, 30 percent training. This winter he was 100 percent training. “It’s been fun getting back to work.”

UPDATE, 1:39 p.m.: “I hear there’s a lot of doubters out there, and that’s always fun.”

UPDATE, 1:40 p.m.: The last few years, Rodriguez said, were not acceptable for him as a hitter.

UPDATE, 1:45 p.m.: Rodriguez said he lost five or six pounds. Called this his regular weight.

UPDATE, 1:49 p.m.: Rodriguez felt some “hesitation” going side to side in the field late last season.

Bojo ? I don?t know what you?re referring to. Sanchez? Do you mean SJ?s nephew? I?m not sure what you mean by extra artery in the heart.

Reading the papers while having lunch. The NY Times has yet another story in today?s paper today about Fred Wilpon and his relationship with Madoff. Based on this, and everything else I?ve seen in print, I can only conclude that one of two things is going on ?

    1. Fred Wilpon is a complete idiot, or
    2. Fred Wilpon is lying through his teeth.

Wilpon went out and solicited investments only from people who did not know much about investing, and would not ask questions. If someone asked too much, they were not ?invited? in. Contact with Madoff was not permitted. (Think of the All Mighty and Powerful Oz, the Man Behind the Curtain.) And, all funds had to go through Fred?s company, Sterling Equities. Why? Because Madoff was ?special?.

90% of the 401 funds for the employees of Sterling Equities were funneled thru Madoff. Everyday working people lost their life savings.

    This thing really smells.

    Hi Alex Rodriguez,

What will you be wearing to the two thousand eleven Academy Awards on Sunday ?

  5. Ruby Tuesday February 21st, 2011 at 1:46 pm

I guess it is more proper to call it the Eighty Third Academy Awards .

    My sincerest apologies .

Joe, the item that Bojo was referring to was about Yankee catcher Gary Sanchez having surgery to cauterize” an extra nerve going into his heart that showed up in his physical and later test. The question is about a writer calling a doctor and asking him questions about another doctor’s patient ‘without revealing the name” and then going by the sketchy details reported in a paper about the procedure.

  7. BoJo February 21st, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Actually GB7–the question is about the questions I asked him. We can get to your point later…I am just curious about the condition and procedure.

  8. BoJo February 21st, 2011 at 1:57 pm

    Joe–

Here is some info about what happened that GB7 provided earlier.

Your question was about the lazy minor league town sports writer not asking about specifics without you or the doctor knowing the exact specifics,

  10. GreenBeret7 February 21st, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Whatever. If I’m wrong about it, I’m wrong.

    _______________
Correction–that was my comment to you, but not my question to Joe. I can ask him directly without your interpretation–thank you.

  12. BoJo February 21st, 2011 at 2:00 pm

I thought we dropped this earlier…I am just asking Joe if he can provide some general insight.

  13. GreenBeret7 February 21st, 2011 at 2:02 pm

    Keep it straight. Nunez

  14. BoJo February 21st, 2011 at 2:03 pm

Ah–thanks. I think you are right on that.

As for this issue, I am more curious about his insight than about the reporter’s skills.

SMH @ Wilpon every single day the grave gets deeper.

Rodriguez’ movement in the field will be as telling as his swing/movement in the batter’s box and just as important.

A beat writer was laying odds on who would ask the popcorn question and Alex went for the pre-emptive strike. Nice.

Bojo, GB7 – Yes, I remember reading about Gary Sanchez’ heart issue the other day, but not any details.

From what the author reported – and it is skimpy on the medical details – it sounds like – and I’m guessing here – that Sanchez may have been diagnosed with an arrhythmia, based on it being picked up on an EKG. The “extra nerve” makes it sound like a layman’s description of an accessory conduction pathway, within the heart, which could be ablated in the electrophysiology suite by a cardiologist specializing in arrhythmias. Not really an operation, though it is a very involved procedure.

As you can see, I’m guessing here, but that’s what it sounds like the situation might be. If this is what Sanchez had done, and successful, he’s cured of his problem.

But, please don’t take this as gospel as what Sanchez had done.

Ledger_Yankees A-Rod in spanish says he’s prepared for the season with the eyes of a tiger. #nyy

BloggingBombers Honestly, the fact that “Popcorn-gate” was the biggest controversy A-Rod had to address this year tells you everything you need to know.

Ray, have you ever read the transscripts from those Senate hearings in 1958? The only one that could have understood Casey was Yogi Berra. Reading it is certainly an education.

Ledger_Yankees “I’m not singling anybody out,” Hank says, after blasting ’10 Yanks for being unfocused and “concentrating on building mansions.” #nyy

Ledger_Yankees According to Hank, Cashman spoke to A-Rod this year winter about taking on more of a leadership role. #nyy

Ledger_Yankees H. Steinbrenner says the team as a whole celebrated too much after winning it all. And yes, it was Jeter who was building a mansion. #nyy

Ledger_Yankees Hanks says this year’s team reminds me of ’09 – they have the hunger to win. #nyy

What was a bit odd IMO is why A-Rod got so upset about it at the time. The director always shows celebrities in the crowd at sporting events. Everyone needs to come to grips with the fact that in 2011 there it’s you are being videotaped and if you are a celebrity it’s really likely.

  27. West Coast Yankee Fan February 21st, 2011 at 2:35 pm

    …that it’s probable

Hank also too an opportunity to blast revenue sharing. Called it “socialism” and questioned logic of supporting teams in ailing markets #nyy

Arod never got upset about it.

The report stating he was upset was false.
