Nevermind: Hughes starting day before Burnett
Every spring training, the Yankees beat writers have dinner with Joe Girardi. We just wrapped up this year’s meal, and Girardi dropped a tiny bit of news on us.
Girardi said he misspoke when he announced the initial spring rotation. Phil Hughes will start the fourth game. A.J. Burnett will start the fifth.
That’s all it is, those two are swapping places. Girardi said that’s the way it’s always been, he just announced it the wrong way, and he prefaced this information by saying, “Don’t read anything into this.” Things easily could be shuffled between now and Opening Day. For now, though, the Yankees have Hughes starting the day before Burnett. We’ll see if it stays that way.
The Yankees spring rotation (so far):
Saturday: Bartolo Colon
Sunday: Ivan Nova
Monday: CC Sabathia
Tuesday: Phil Hughes
Wednesday: A.J. Burnett
Thursday: Freddy Garcia

I’m looking forward to seeing both Phil and AJ pitch………If they do well this year, they will make it so much easier to handle any uncertainty at the backend of the rotation
Just watched Glee from yesterday. Their categories of drunk girl were spot on.
I watched Swish earlier. He was better (on more) than last week.
Betsy
I don’t know if you saw my response last night, but I wasn’t talking about individual achievements. I was talking about the team as a whole in performance.
Here we go again. Hughes now pitching on Tuesday means it is not a televised game according to yankees.com. We suffered through this with Hughes last year in ST. Are these games on mlb.tv (online)? Does anyone know if there is a sched up for those online games?
KPB, yeah, I saw it but I think that was when I was checking out due to exhaustion. I should have known what you meant right away, but being overtired does not help, lol

Yankeefeminista,
That sounds like fun! I’d really like to go to Opening Night for the SI Yankees, but I imagine that pitching and any breakthrough players will help determine the other games I attend.
Feel free to touch base about the games you’ll be attending. Post to me here or you’re welcome to ask Chad for my e-mail address if you’re more comfortable with that.
_________
Will do, Tarheel. Staten Island, esp., is a great place to see a game.
Betsy
Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page with that. And if I’m understanding correctly, congrats on your team getting the player you wanted and him doing well tonight.
KPB, thanks! After a decade of abysmal irrelevance, it’s nice to be rooting for a good Knick team again.
Giddyup. We’ll see if they change the order later. But as is, the rest lined up pretty much in order of strength.
That was quite the little bombshell for dessert. Espn doesn’t have it up yet.
“Don’t read anything into this.”
I’m reading something into it, whether it was originally that way or he misspoke.
There’s going to be a time, a moment when all eyes will be fixed upon Andrew Brackman this season……..
The sooner Brackman can make an impact the better.
Good morning, morning people.
I am really excited to start seeing games. I can’t wait to get a look at these new young pitchers. It certainly sounds like Girardi is impressed.
***
That was an interesting bit of news Girardi threw at you all at the end of the evening. Thinking you would all be too sated to think of it as anything more than a throw in? Perhaps it’s nothing. Perhaps earlier they either hadn’t spoken to Hughes and AJ. Perhaps after seeing some sessions, they thought this would work out better. Who knows?
****
Fran, if you’re there this morning, I finally got to watch “Say Yes to the Dress.” Color me unimpressed. I like Amber Sabbathia, so I don’t want this to come out sounding wrong, but just because people have access to money does not make the experts on style; it only makes them able to spend a lot of money. And, not for nothing, but who the heck has “bling” as the “theme” of their wedding. It’s been a long time, I admit, but I thought the theme of any wedding was the couple starting a life together. Bling!
(Plus only two of the women, Karen Burnett and Amber, were Yankees wives but the kept referring to the entire group as Yankees wives.)
I also watched Better With You and enjoyed seeing Swisher. He definitely could fit in on sitcom.
Didn’t sleep too well last night. So the DVR came in pretty handy.
This board was dead!!! It never fails. The nights I can’t keep my eyes open, there is scintillating conversation here; the night I can’t sleep, no one is here. Oh well.
Good morning Doreen.
I’m looking forward to some real baseball and have been for quite some time.
Should be an interesting Spring.
Congrats on the new IMac. Great machine.
MTU -
Thanks.
But I screwed it up already. Really bad. Working with iTunes. Accidentally trashing of duplicates. Copied, accidentally, 3,000 music files to desktop. Computer turns on but doesn’t do anything. Serious problem. I have one thing to try before calling Apple. Probably going to have to bring it in. Very depressed about this. Stupid mistake.
Not copied. Moved from trash to desktop. For whatever difference that makes.
MTU is back from the wilderness
Doreen-
We all make mistakes.
It will be corrected.
You’ll get the hang of it soon enough.
If I could afford it I would get a MacBook Air 13 “.
In any case, you get Kudos for keeping the Economy running.
Blake-
Some people probably wish I would have just stayed there.
For good.
Im just not an mac person….I.know.its supposed to be easier and better and etc…..but its just not to me. Windows is just in my brain and infinitely more user friendly to me.
MTU,
Nah man good to.have ya back
Blake-
I understand.
Mine is a windows7 machine.
Just got finished with a battle getting it to run the way it should.
Almost had to reload.
The Apple’s are not subject to as many virusues, etc., and the op system is way more slick.
If I ever get another machine I think that’s the way I’m gonnna go.
What’s the latest with our Team ? Any surprises so far ?
edit: viruses. duh.
MtU,
Yea the virus thing is the thing I like best about Macs…..however Im sure more.viruses will be written for them in the future. Not being able to right click drives me crazy…..if they’d just fix that Id like it a lot better. I have an ipad and like it pretty well…..
Thanks, MTU.
I’m just shy of a panic attack on this. And I’m not exaggerating.
As for keeping the economy running, it’s really a matter of everything starting to wear out at once and needing to be replaced.
I’d much rather be spacing things out.
blake -
I can right click on the iMac. The salesperson helped me set up the mouse so that I could do that.
Blake-
Do you have the full Monty versionof the IPad ?
Awesome piece of Technology.
Lightweight, verstatile, and NO moving parts to wear out.
Doreen….maybe I just need a new mouse then. Mine doesn’t have but one button. Macs definitely are smoother and are much less prone to viruses….my brain is just trained to windows I guess.
sp: versatile. It’s all GB’s fault.
MTU,
I don’t know….I think so. Honestly my 2 year old son uses it more than I do. He gets it and clicks the youtube app and watches elmo and mickey mouse etc…..its pretty much his ipad at this point
MTU,
Thanks for the photos. They were spectacular as always. Have you been to Big Bend National Park? I am going next year. It is a colorful, high desert area.
It is sounding like the Yankees may make use of some young players this year. Cashman is made to sound as if ManBan could pitch later in the ear and Curry suggests may go north. Exciting stuff.
morning all!
“Banuelos has a presence, a confidence on the mound that’s a lot like when El Duque showed up,” Cashman said”
thats high praise but i hate hanging tags like that on a 19 year old kid.
I love my IPad. The only problem is it makes me type like GB on occasion and creates some strange words when I mis-type. Books on it are great, and I never expected to like that.
Blake-
Slick toy for a two year old.
Kid must be a genius.
Does he place stock trades like the kid on the E Trade commercials ?
If Banuelos or Betances throw in the big leagues this year then that would represent a fairly big shift in how the Yanks have done things in recent years….they may think the need warrants it though at some point.
I do think it would be ideal if they could both throw between 150-160 innings between AA and AAA in 2011 and then be options for 2012……but at some point throwing a baseball is throwing a baseball and 150 innings is 150 innings no.matter where you throw them. If the Yanks deem at some point that one or both of those guys are one of the top 5 starters in the system.and they need them…….then who knows.
Austin-
I haven’t been to BB NP but the guy we visited in Tucson went last year.
He sent me some photos. It was pretty interesting. I think you’ll like it. I’ll see if I can dig them up and will send them to you if I can.
The youngsters definitely offer the possibility for suprises.
MTU,
he does catch on quick….he knows how to swipe the thing to unlock it….how to start youtube, how to hit play and how to make it fullscreen. If I can teach him how to.type elmo in the search box I wont have to do.anything
Austinmac,
I didn’t either but its really nice to read that way…..
blake, i think it would actually be good if betances at least gets a cup of coffee and gets to throw some ml innings. just a couple weeks in the BP or a spot start or two. like you said, throwing a baseball is throwing a baseball and as long as whoever comes up knows its just a start or two then they go back, i think it will help in his development. banuelos is probably a next year thing.
i expect to see brackman in the majors this year.
There will be more viruses on macs when more people own macs. If 70% of people owned them, hackers would write more viruses for them.
Doreen,
Don’t get stressed yet. I’d say it’s a very good chance you’ll be able to recover your data.
Y’s
I.agree. we probably will see Brackman this year…he does have more innings and is older than the other two. Banuelos is probably more ready than Betances from a pitching standpoint ….but he is very young. We’ll just have to.see…..they have other guys that may give them the luxury of being very patient.
good morning all…welcome back MTU
i loved my mac, i bought the original imac the day it became available. it was great and never gave me any problems till it became obsolete. never had a problem with it.
when i switched to a laptop, i couldnt afford an ibook so im on an hp now. wish i still had a mac, but this thing is pretty nice too.
MTU , I thought you might have been doing your own version of “127 Hours”
Either that or a rattler made lunch out of your leg.
51 hours till live Yankee baseball. I’m rooting for the big man to make it to The Bronx.
dellin has 300 minor league innings now, and he’s 22. plus he was born in brookly and raised in the bronx and used to go to the stadium alot, so i worry alot less about his head spinning if he were to come up.
manny is 19 and has pitched 215 innings. still this kid could be banging on the door by late summer.
Yankeefeminista, or anyone….
if you find a master tv sched for games, let me know.
mlb.tv has only sat, sun it looks..
YES or mlb package on directtv have any other games??
i live in PA, so I pay for mlb.tv si I can view on my iphone and playstation, mlb direct tv package so I can get it on my TVs easily, and pay for YES….and fox blocks saturday games on me, ughhhh..
“dellin has 300 minor league innings now, and he’s 22.”
Following his elbow ligament reinforcement surgery, he’s pitched 44 innings in ’09 and 85 innings in ’10. He pitched 121 innings in ’08. My question is this. Is his baseline for number of innings in ’11 based on the 121 innings from ’08 plus 40 or so more, or does he start from scratch after the surgery, and the baseline is instead 85 plus 40 or so more?
The Yankees own website has the TV coverage on it’s schedule.
then again dellin might end up with 500 friends and family coming to see him when he starts in the bronx and manny might have his parents up from mexico.
its a find line between bringing kids along and letting them get a taste, and rushing a pitcher’s development. you’d hope that you’d have a spot-start situation where you know the regular starter is going to come off the dl in 2 weeks and theres a definite limit on the kid’s # of starts. what you dont want is a rotation collapse where you bring the kid up for an audition and if he throws ok, you have to keep him in the rotation before he is ready.
but under the right conditions i’d love to see betances at least get a look this year.
Good morning everyone.
Doreen, it was really Gaudin’s fiancee who idolized Mrs. Sabathia and Mrs. Burnett. She was impressed with the money. They did equate money with style. She did buy a beautiful gown though, didn’t she.
mell, these innings limits are only theories and new theories at that. so i think the answer to that question is being worked out as we speak.
Kate-
Thanks. Hope all is well.
Jeers-
Nope. Just some catching up to do. And to rest a little.
By the big man, are we talking Betances or Brackman ?
Morning all!
Austin-
Found them. Check your mail.
Betsy,
You must have enjoyed last night’s Knick game
Did everybody watch Swish last night?
He did really well- I think he could have a second career as an actor.
Good morning, morning people
Erin-
The read thru made much more sense after last night’s episode.
A lot more than “I think he’s dead” LOL
Fran, the Garden was electric- it hasn’t sounded like that in a dog’s age – it was fun, for sure! I’ll be listening to sports radio all day at work today, lol.
E&E
I loved watching Swish last night! My husband does not have a very high opinion of BWY, even after I made him watch the Swish portions…oh well!
Upstate Kate-
I think BWY is really cute. I am a big fan of ABC on Wednesday nights. I hope all 4 shows come back next season. (I think BWY is the only one on the bubble). But CougarTown is WAY underrated.
after acting classes, community theater, off-off-off broadway, summer acting playhouses, etc. etc. etc. actors must get pretty pissed when people see someone like swish say 3 or 4 lines and ppl say he could be an actor.
it kinda like saying, hey, they justin bieber was good in the celebrity all-star game, maybe he can help the lakers…
Betsy, I am sure you will. Sunday night’s game with the Heat should be really good.
*******
Erin and Erica, Nick did very well last night. Maybe they’ll have him back again some time.
Erica-For some reason I started to get less and less interested in Cougar Town. I don’t really even know why. I do love Mr. Sunshine however (of course Matthew Perry can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned LOL).
We all, including the college boy, really like Modern Family. I am not a fan of CougarTown, altho I only watched the first few episodes.
Fran-Carig had a tweet about Swish’s appearance yesterday and he said the door is open for a recurring role.
Ys guy,
as soon as Bieber is a FA
Did you see my email about the league? So far the responses I got, people want to keep the roster size the same. It will really just affect the bench players anyway.
**********
Kate and Erica, any feedback?
whenever i hear ppl talk about tv shows it makes me happy that i dont have tv. (i have tv’s but cancelled the directv and dont get broadcast tv.
cougar town? i cant even imagine how bad that must be…
Erin, that would be cool. I guess being married to the star helps
Upstate Kate-
Cougar Town got MUCH better after the first few epsiodes, when it actually lost its concept. Now its more of a friend comedy.
Erin-
Come on.. Penny Can. Big Joe?!
The Mr Sunshine intro makes me laugh hysterically for some reason. “Mr Sunshine YAY”
Fran-
I am fine with leaving it
Fran -
It was a lot nicer on than on the hanger. She was very (too much) impressed with the money.
***
Erin -
I did enjoy Swish last night. I DVR’d it and watched it later. I have to admit I’m addicted to American Idol.
I need to DVR all the other shows, though, because I missed The Middle and Modern Family, which I like. Next week.
Well, about to start trying to “fix” my iMac. Wish me luck.
(BD – the only real data I have on there so far is photographs and music, which I have means to replace if need be.)
Ys Guy-
Just a thought. But don’t criticize something you have never seen
new thread
Erica-I have that Mr. Sunshine theme in my head this morning! It’s hilarious.
Betsy
I was so happy to see Melo have such a great start
Fran
I am fine w/ whatever you decide…I don’t know enough to provide feedback! I think I am going to get one of those fantasy guides that Doreen was talking about. And I am crossing Wainwright and Miggy off my list.
fran, i was only making that suggestion to make it easier on other players, im fine with it. since i have some experience it probably works to my favor a little. (as much as knowing the difference between eric aybar and niel walker can be considered an advantage). the main reason for doing it would be that poorer teams would have a better chance at getting better during the season b/c of a smaller pool of players sitting on team’s benches and better players (especially pitchers) available as fa’s.
are there definitly going to be 14 teams or is that still up in the air?
Ys guy, 14 teams. Not adding any more.
Kate, you see you know enough to eliminate players

Abe, thanks for the link.
