Sabathia works early
Good morning from Steinbrenner (I still call it Legends sometimes) Field. Always nice to be back, particularly when it’s in the high 60s on the way to (supposedly) another 80 degree day. I can’t say I was sad to bid farewell to the still-four-foot high snowdrift outside my house.
The Yankees clubhouse opens shortly but CC Sabathia is out on the main field already. Sabathia is throwing live batting practice (from behind the pitcher’s screen) with a large crew watching including Joe Girardi, Yogi Berra and Larry Rothschild.
Sabathia, you’ll recall, is scheduled to make his spring debut in Monday’s game.

Just a thought. But don’t criticize something you have never seen”
///
just a thought, i’m in my 50′s and i’ve seen thousands and thousands of tv shows, drama’s comedies and everything else and i’ve decided that its not worth paying for.
but if you think “cougar town” is going to make me change my mind and resubscribe, i’ll keep that in mind (and watch it on someone else’s tv!)
eboland11 CC, after live BP early this morning, said ball isn’t coming out any different as result of weight loss but “my stamina” is better
Ledger_Yankees Sabathia threw around 30 pitches in his ‘pen. Felt he kept his mechanics together.
Ledger_Yankees CC names two most dangerous food cities of the AL: Kansas City and Chicago.
kc and chitown, two stockyard cities. cc must love his beef (and barbeque?)
Y’s Guy-
Everyone’s taste is different. I happen to think the show is hilarious. You might not. But don’t jump the gun and make comments like “that must be bad” if you have never seen it.

eboland11 CC, after live BP early this morning, said ball isn’t coming out any different as result of weight loss but “my stamina” is better

So now he’s good for 10+ innings.
erica, no offense but ‘i think the show is hilarious’ is an opinion and so is, ‘i can’t imagine how bad that must be.’ i can promise you that if i bother to watch ‘cougar town’ im going to hate it based on years and years of seeing stupid tv shows. i have no problem with your opinion, i only ask you to respect mine.
Abe, thanks for the link.
Y’s Guy-
I really don’t want to argue with you (esp since we are going to be Leaguemates), but all I am saying is I watch the show and I think its funny. You have never seen the show and are making a snap judgement based on a title and insulting something I think is funny. I do not think you are informed enough to make an opinion.
I am going to drop this matter now.
sure thing fran,,,, always fun to see the strange photo day shoot.
some of the AAA guys look 12 yrs old..
http://www.daylife.com/search/.....?q=yankees
i just set my gf’s dvr to take ‘cougar town’ and we’re going to watch it in your honor erica.
and i’m gonna draft jeter one pick before you in the draft….
Chad,
did Cashman give a reason as to why the Yankees let Andrew Sisco this early in spring training?
Ys Guy-
Thank you
And my well planned draft strategy is to wing it. LOL
Abe, there are many I don’t recognize. Glad they give you the names
Abe
thanks for the photo link. I like being able to put a face to some of the newer Yankees. It did make me laugh to see a few of Soriano’s pix labelled as Cervelli…unless Cervelli got very tanned from all that time in the DR, I don’t think it is him.
YsGuy
but I want Jeet
e, i’m going to be winging it too, i didnt know its a points league until today (i’ve never played in a points league). sounds like a fun new experience!
i agree fran and kate,,, didnt recognize a few too.
a lot look more like mug shots than flattering photos.
the poses w bat in hand are funny too, look like little kids..
Y’s Guy-
I did it last year for the first time.
My biggest frustration was that some weeks my team would be absolutely clicking on all cylanders (it was a rarity) and I would smash my competition. Then other weeks I felt like I couldn’t buy a point.
I wished you could “bank” them. LOL
But then again, its the same thing when the Yankees win 15-2. It still starts fresh the next day
kate, i played in the lohud league a 2 years ago and i think the top 13 or so yankees went in the first 3 rounds. (by comparison in a standard 5×5 league now, cano is around #6, arod is around #20 and cc is around #35) of course that was a 5×5 league and were in a points league so the rankings would be very different for us this year.
OK, now report says BA’s Matt Eddy made a mistake and sisco hasn’t been cut loose,
“Update: Andy Sisco is not cut
UPDATE: Apparently Baseball America had it wrong. Andy Sisco has not been released. It did seem a bit strange that the Yankees would released two left-handers in one fell swoop, especially when your left-handed options at the major league level are Pedro Feliciano and Boone Logan.
In three major league seasons, Sisco is 3-9 with a 5.18 ERA and 141 Ks against 93 walks in 147 2/3 innings.”
Great pictures from photo day!
I’m glad they didn’t use that awful white background from last year. Everybody looked so washed out. LOL
Good morning all ..I see the assassins have failed.
So whats the scuttlebutt today in LoHud land?
The guy with the the knuckles tattoos holding Tex’s bat is Andruw Jones. Can’t make out what they say.
Betances looks as broad as Broadway.
i like phil’s poker face.
aj looks like he’s not sure where this one’s gonna go.
Chavez looks go different without the facial hair. I had to do a double-take to make sure it was him…
cc has the “hey its photo day and im not wearing any shoes.” look.
speaking of no facial hair, has anyone seen the new Youk?
i cant make out ink on andruws fingers either… maybe kids names or something??

‘left and ‘right’
Chad needs to do a tattoo photo shoot of all the players and stories behind the ink…

That’s probably Andruw’s bat from last year since he was #25 with the White Sox. Just sayin…
Seeing Bartolo Colon is pinstripes is definitely bizarre and Chavez just doesn’t look like himself without some fuzz on his chin.
End the beard ban Yankees!

I try to avoid looking at him at all costs.
Does anyone think Chad could get audio of Colon saying “OH YEAHHH” like the Kool-Aid guy? Cause thats what I heard in my head when I saw that picture. Double points if you get him to bust through a wall first, Chad.

I refuse to accept your highly logical conclusion.
YankeesWFAN My daily dose of Yogi–he said CC looked good this morning. I asked him when was the last time he caught someone. “Last year,” he said. LOL
QOTD This Yankee player won two Gold Gloves as a Yankee and had 11 consecutive starts in the All Star game. Who is he?
speaking of the facial hair ban, my boy jah-buddha is really pushing the line with that stubble.
i like it…!

I was just channel surfing and he and the elf were being interviewed by Smoltzie. It took me a minute to figure out who he was!

Yankeefeminista, or anyone….
if you find a master tv sched for games, let me know.
mlb.tv has only sat, sun it looks..
YES or mlb package on directtv have any other games??
i live in PA, so I pay for mlb.tv si I can view on my iphone and playstation, mlb direct tv package so I can get it on my TVs easily, and pay for YES….and fox blocks saturday games on me, ughhhh..
______
Morning, all.
I was discussing exhibition games. Is that what you are referring to? I haven’t looked for mlb-tv (online) sched since my query, but I will. However, even without a sched, I know there will be a bunch of games on mlb-tv and directv, beyond what YES network and mlb network are showing. Laborious way to find out is to go to away teams sites, and look at their scheduled TV games. With what you have, mlb-tv and directv, you will get all on air games. So, you should be set.
didnt chad say that joe posted “please be clean-shaven?”
Trisha
i would like to say Jeet, but I know he has more than 2 GGs
Trisha,
Is it Wade Boggs?

QOTD This Yankee player won two Gold Gloves as a Yankee and had 11 consecutive starts in the All Star game. Who is he?
______
Hey, Trisha. Query, do we only get one guess or can we keep guessing?
so when, exactly did arod become mr. mellow?
he has no sign of that ‘being uncomfortable in his own skin’ thing he had going when he got here. he’s really grown-up here.
i guess once everybody knows about your centaurs, you can relax.
Absolutely keep guessing! I will try to interject quickly when I see a wrong answer.
JackCurryYES Cashman said Brackman is the pitcher that has most impressed him this spring. But he also mentioned Phelps, Warren, Noesi and Banuelos.
eboland11 Anyone questioning why CC mentioned Kansas City as a “danger” city when it comes to food has not been to Oklahoma Joe’s. #incredibleBBQ
that picture moved arod back into my 1st round.
STOP THE PRESSES! The answer is Wade Boggs. Congrats to Fran!
Kate, I threw a little curve there because all of the AS Games were not with the Yankees. But Boggs will probably be an exception to the rule because not all of his major years were with the Yanks. However, he is on one of the cards so I figured I should use him.
JackCurryYES When asked if Brackman could be factor Yanks this yr, Cashman said yes. “U might see all of them,” he said, of Brackman,Noesi,Warren, Phelps
“starts” had me thinking “pitcher”
Arod has 2 GG’s. Is he the answer?

I think this is quite possible, unless we make an outside move.
Again, I can’t recommend strongly enough the power of Google. I used it before I put this question up to make sure that there was no other Yankee that would fit. So I Googled AL All Star Game winners and did a quick look down the list. Unless someone really jumps out at you, I think the best/quickest Googler ends up winning the question.
Boggs looks about right.

its almost like he just walked out of the marketing meeting, he’s right on-point.
Jeers – I apologize for that. I can see where that would throw you off. I eliminated something from the card to make it more difficult. Just for that I am going to do an additional QOTD. So get ready to Google. I’ll put the question up at 10:20. Fran still gets credit for Boggs, of course.
Trisha, thanks.
It nust be that I search the internet well. That and that GB wasn’t playing
QOTD = Mickey Mantle?
WADE BOGGS (NY Yankee 1990-1997)
One of the best hitters of any generation, Boggs shifted from Boston to New York in 1993 and went on to win a pair of AL Gold Glove Awards in 1994 and ’95. In 1996 he made his 11th consecutive start at third base in the MLB All Star Game and capped his campaign with a thrilling World Series championship win over the Braves.
Yankee fans, may I present to you sometimes Yankee Wade Boggs! http://www.google.com/imgres?i.....9,r:17,s:0
Because of my poorly constructed question, there will be another QOTD at 10:20. Googling is allowed/recommended!

Okay, 10:30.
I want everyone to have time to breathe and read about Boggs.
Fran,
If you’re there, I just got off the telephone with Apple Care people. My computer is fixed, they were great, and I didn’t lose any of the data I cared about. I was afraid I was going to have to lug the thing back in an I didn’t. It was a breeze. The best experience I’ve ever had with tech people.
Fran, you are too quick!
Ray and Big Al. The correct answer is Wade Boggs. Fran guessed it.
As soon as you see STOP THE PRESSES! that will mean someone answered correctly.

Did you get your VW yet?
Doreen, that is great to hear. I hope to be an Apple owner thhis weekend
Yankeefeminsta, I guess I excel in Google skills

Got on late and didn’t read all the way through, then again I’m not as quick as GB.
