Montero OK after foul tip

Foul balls have not been kind to Yankees catchers this spring.

Today, Jesus Montero was behind the plate when a foul tip caught him in the right hand. Girardi said there was a seam mark on his knuckle, but there’s no significant concern.

“I’ll wait to see how Monty’s finger is tomorrow, but he finished, and he had great strength in it,” Girardi said. “Those hurt, but as a catcher you’ve just got to take it.”

Get Romine out of Tampa fast. He’s jinxing all of the other catchers, just to make the 25 man roster.

    Oh boy .

    Another catcher is hurt .

There is not such thing as a surplus of catchers . Is there ?

Yea, I got a laugh out of the Monty too haha.

I think both of his hits came after he took the ball of his knuckle. Maybe he’s like one of those movie guys who gets cut in a fight and says, “thanks, that’s all I needed,” then goes to town on his attacker(s).

Oh, and before I forget, there was also a bigger Montero mark left on the ball.

Imagine if the Yankees had signed Tori Hunter……His name in Girardispeak would be Tori Huntie!

From the hard to believe but true category:

Wikileaks – Ahmadinejad Is “Steinbrenner of Iran”

    Mar 4, 5:12 AM (ET)
    By Howie Rumberg (AP)

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – George Steinbrenner often compared himself to powerful, iron-fisted leaders. Assuredly, the late New York Yankees owner never had the Iranian president in mind.

An American diplomat did, calling Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the “The George Steinbrenner of Iran” in a leaked U.S. cable detailing the president’s meddling with his country’s national soccer team.

Steinbrenner’s name showed up among the thousands of State Department documents released by Wikileaks. His son was startled when told by The Associated Press.

“I think that’s a ridiculous comparison,” Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner said this week. “Obviously, it was very inappropriate.”

What’s Girardi’s nickname for Montero? Studi?

  10. Rich in NJ March 5th, 2011 at 5:11 pm

Beyond the absurdity of that analogy on its face, Ahmadinejad, by all accounts, is a puppet. George was a puppet master.

“I’ve always liked him,” Girardi said. “I liked him the first time I saw him pitch for Chicago and I wasn’t even on the same team.

    Dear Skipper, Chad, etc:

If we have to be saddled with ANOTHER lazy nickname, it should at least be spelled correctly:

“Monte,” with an E at the end.
