Another chance to see how much he’s improved, cool……….

  2. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 8:17 am

    No winners for GTLU.

Lineup even earlier than it’s been to this point. I’m beginning to think there’s a game within a game! lol

  3. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 8:17 am

So, in light of this, I think we will suspend GTLU until the last week before the regular season.

  4. Fran the original March 8th, 2011 at 8:19 am

    Doreen,

I was going to post by 8:30 and then I saw the line-up was already posted! I wouldn’t have guessed it though.

Maybe we can play overnight from 3-5 AM. Like to see Joe beat us then :)

  5. upstate kate March 8th, 2011 at 8:20 am

    Doreen
as it gets closer, it will be more apt to be a regular line up anyway

  6. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 8:22 am

    Fran -

I said last night if the the lineup was posted any time before 8:30 I’d just throw in the towel. UNCLE!!!

I bet Mr. Girardi-y doesn’t sleep at all!

But, there hasn’t been a new post on this blog before 9:00 in a very long time, so I don’t think it’s Joe G who’s playing games with us. Chad???????? LOL

    upstate kate -

    Absolutely. It’s like riding a bicycle anyway – I find I don’t really need the “practice.” :)

  7. Erin March 8th, 2011 at 8:25 am

    Darn-I missed GTLU.

And I had five whole minutes to submit it. LOL Oh well, I wouldn’t have won anyway. ;)

  8. Fran the original March 8th, 2011 at 8:26 am

    Doreen,

    LOL.

  9. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 8:26 am

    Who are they playing today?

  10. Tom in N.J. March 8th, 2011 at 8:27 am

This tweet from Gammons has me a bit unnerved:

“Like comp of Manuel Banuelos to young Johann Santana”

  11. Fran the original March 8th, 2011 at 8:28 am

    Doreen,

    Road trip to the Braves.

  12. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 8:29 am

    Thanks, Fran.

  13. blake March 8th, 2011 at 8:31 am

    Je-Zeus hitting 5th!

Peter must be confused….Banuelos plays for the Yankees. He does look like Santana though standing on the mound….his delivery is actually smoother, time will tell if the results will be on that level……I think its possible.

  14. blake March 8th, 2011 at 8:34 am

SI_JonHeyman everyone seems to know a. gonzalez has deal w/ red sox except a-gon. word is, $154 mil extension to come out after opener

At which point the Red Sox will have more $ committed to 2014 than the Yanks do #cantbeatuhmjoinuhm…

  15. Erin March 8th, 2011 at 8:47 am

Ledger_Yankees Curtis has his right arm in a sling. #nyy

  16. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 8:58 am

if agon doesnt sign that contract, could be a pujols in the sock’s future

  17. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 9:06 am

    Poor Colin. I guess dislocation?

Nothing you can really do but wait that out.

I know he wasn’t going to make the club, but it’s never a good thing to start your season with an injury.

  18. Erin March 8th, 2011 at 9:06 am

Ledger_Yankees “Kind of unlucky… Sick catch though.” — Colin Curtis

Ledger_Yankees Curtis doesn’t have his MRI results. Won’t know until later today.

  19. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:07 am

The Sox are gonna sign Adrian. Can’t see them risking it to wait on Albert…..they could end up with neither.

  20. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:08 am

    Blake-

I see them making a play for Reyes too.

    They’ll need to replace Scutaro.

  21. Erin March 8th, 2011 at 9:10 am

Ledger_Yankees Girardi says cuts coming this weekend.

  22. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:11 am

    MTU,

maybe but their best prospect is a SS (Iglesias) and will likely be ready for 2012. .I think they’ll give him a chance before doing anything like that.

  23. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 9:13 am

i dont know why people assume that agon is just going to sign an extention whenever it suits the red sox. the closer he comes to his free agency the better the chance he will decide not to sign. i’m not suggesting the socks are gonna pass on agon, im suggesting agon might decide to pass on the socks.

  24. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:13 am

    Blake-

Slick fielder but can he hit enough ?

    Another Pena type clone ?

Reyes is a sure thing. Fast, way more power. Decent fielder. Much better bat.

They’re only gonna get one shot at him.

  25. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 9:14 am

Ledger_Yankees Girardi says cuts coming this weekend.

bye bye manny and dellin…see you soon!

  26. SJ44 March 8th, 2011 at 9:15 am

The Gonzalez contract is done. They are just holding off for luxury tax reasons.

The Red Sox aren’t going to go after Pujols.

    Doreen,

I was going to suggest you suggest GTLU.

Girardi is really going to tinker with the lineups for the next couple of weeks. I don’t think anybody will be able to correctly guess the lineups.

Looking forward to seeing Montero in person today.

  27. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:17 am

    MTU,

yea but the Sox are really getting up there in payroll….I can’t see them signing Reyes when they have Iglesias ready to go…..maybe Im wrong.

    Y’s,

An extension was probably tentatively agreed to.before the trade was ever made.

  28. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 9:17 am

sj i keep hearing that the contract is done by why did heyman suggest that agon doesnt think it is?

  29. Doreen March 8th, 2011 at 9:19 am

    SJ44 -

Fortunately, I know when to give up. :)

  30. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 9:19 am

i dont see the socks going after reyes long-term. but they might be interested in him as a rental for this year, then let him go and take the draft pick. depends on the price.

  31. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:19 am

    SJ,

we expect a full report on how awesome Montero is ;) sorry about your nephew’s food poisoning…..not fun….been there…

  32. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:21 am

    Blake-

They’ve got money coming off the books next year.

Nancy Drew disappears along with Papi, and Papelboner.

That’s significant money. There may be more.

The little engine that could has grown a V8.

Maybe they keep upping it’s Horsepower ?

  33. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:21 am

“i dont see the socks going after reyes long-term. but they might be interested in him as a rental for this year, then let him go and take the draft pick. depends on the price.”

Now this could be possible if they decided to move him but who do the Sox have to offer the Mets? Theyd probably want Iglesias in return…..

  34. Joe from Long Island March 8th, 2011 at 9:22 am

Ys Guy – I agree. I think the only thing the Red Sox would have to do is pick up his remaining salary.

  35. SJ44 March 8th, 2011 at 9:22 am

Because saying it’s done now will make it impossible for the Sox to put off signing the deal after the season begins to avoid a luxury tax hit.

It’s just like Beckett’s deal. It’s done and all the other talk and non-talk is a rouse to make sure they can still avoid the luxury tax hit.

Gonzalez is not a rental player for the Red Sox this year so they can go after Pujols.

I don’t think the Sox will be players for Reyes.

  36. Tom in N.J. March 8th, 2011 at 9:22 am

Talk in NY is that Reyes wants a Crawford deal-100 million plus.

  37. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:23 am

    MTU,

yea but they gotta either re-sign or replace those guys…..they’ll need a RFer, a catcher (most likely ) a DH…..probably a starter etc….we shall see….

  38. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:25 am

    Blake-

They need a Catcher way more than a SS.

It’s gonna be fun to run on V-Tek and Salty.

    ;)

Doreen, maybe we would have better luck with Guess the Cuts :)

  40. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:26 am

    SJ,

Objectively ….do you think Iglesias is better than Nunez? Both now and considering upside?

  41. Joe from Long Island March 8th, 2011 at 9:27 am

Oh, randy is going to be turning colors when the runners take off on the Red Sox’ catchers.

  42. Tom in N.J. March 8th, 2011 at 9:28 am

They’re going to have to pay Bard and Bucholtz sooner rather than later. Plus, they will need to find a C, Rf’er, SS and another SP.

  43. Pat M. March 8th, 2011 at 9:28 am

Man big shake-up in the MLB Offices…..Torre has picked his staff, maybe something can be done with the abysmal umpiring as Port has been fired…….SJ, did you see this coming ???

  44. tyanksfan36 March 8th, 2011 at 9:28 am

I really wanted to go to this game today. Its a combo of my two favorite baseball teams. The Yankees are of course My team but the Braves are my NL team. It should be a good game. I’m not at my computer now so I can’t check but is it going to be on mlb.tv?

  45. Fran the original March 8th, 2011 at 9:29 am

    Tom,

I heard that too about what Reyes wants, but I think he’s got to prove he can stay healthy first.

  46. Fran the original March 8th, 2011 at 9:29 am

    tyanks,

Today’s game is on YES if you can get that.

    ———————————————–

    tough break for Curtis

  48. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:30 am

    True fact.

Golson has an absolute cannon for an arm.

If only someone could teach him to hit a little more.

    :(

  49. GreenBeret7 March 8th, 2011 at 9:32 am

Posada is going to run wild…4 steals a game on Boston.

  50. MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:33 am

    GB-

Yeah. But will he remember where the bag is ?

    :)

  51. SJ44 March 8th, 2011 at 9:35 am

    Pat M,

I don’t think Torre would have taken that job unless he had carte Blanche in hiring his staff.

He’s always been close to Kim and that’s a great hire. She is one, sharp baseball and business mind.

Blake, Iglesias is the real deal defensively. Nunez is a much better hitter.

If Iglesisas hits, he’s a big time SS prospect. His bat will determine how high his ceiling can be.

That said, they aren’t paying Reyes 100 million bucks.

Between Lowrie and Iglesias, they will make it work.

  52. tyanksfan36 March 8th, 2011 at 9:38 am

    Fran

Thanks, I don’t get Yes and even if I did they don’t show the games during games just Centerstage and yankeeography. Even at GMS field they have Yes and it doesn’t show the games. If its not on mlb.tv ill just listen to it on gameday.

  53. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:38 am

    SJ,

Yea I agree…I’ve only seen Iglesias a couple of times but he has great hands and feet and.can really run….I also think Nunez can be a really good.defender with some refinement. He’s not.as.polished defensively as Iglesias from.what I’ve seen but has tools to be a plus defender at SS…..

  54. GreenBeret7 March 8th, 2011 at 9:40 am

    MTU March 8th, 2011 at 9:33 am
    GB-

Yeah. But will he remember where the bag is ?

    ———————————————————————————————————————-

That wasn;t his fault the other night. If you watch very closely, you’ll see that the third baseman moved the bag a foot. e had a string tied to the bag and as Jorge went to step on the bag, the guy pulled the string. Not sure that was legal.

  55. Ys Guy March 8th, 2011 at 9:40 am

“Now this could be possible if they decided to move him but who do the Sox have to offer the Mets?”

    /////

the mets need salary relief and have alot of big salaries they’d like to get rid of. for this reason its probably better to try to make a trade with the mets now instead of at the trade deadline.

reyes and beltran and k rod for scutaro, ellsbury and pappelbon?( saves the mets about $35M+)

  57. Pat M. March 8th, 2011 at 9:43 am

blake……Iglesias is smooth as Vince Scully is with a mike….If he can hit .250 he’ll be an All-Star SS….

  58. blake March 8th, 2011 at 9:47 am

    Pat M,

    He really is.
