Blue Jays starting Morrow vs. Yankees
Just got to Dunedin where the Blue Jays are starting former Yankees catcher Jose Molina and former Yankees prospect Juan Rivera. Speaking of guys who used to play in New York, the Mets finally released Luis Castillo.
BLUE JAYS (10-9)
Corey Patterson CF
John McDonald SS
Jose Bautista 3B
Adam Lind 1B
Juan Rivera RF
Travis Snider LF
Jose Molina C
Eric Thames DH
Mike McCoy 2B
RHP Brandon Morrow

Wow, I just read that Feliciano hasn’t pitched in 9 days – that’s what Girardi calls a little extra rest?
I think the Mets dumping Castillo outright only shows how little their financial problems are determined or will be fixed by their payroll.
I dont think PF needs a lot of ST outings as a lefty specialist, which is what he will be for us. As long as he can come in and put out the lefties in boston, and then the other teams, he will be fine.
Morrow is nasty.
morrow is nasty, his big thing is control, he like joba, only he keep his above average fastball as a starter
Ugh, I want to see Morrow pitch.
As for Feliciano… I was a little concerned about the innings he has logged in the past, but I didn’t think he would be out this soon. What is the party line?

You beat me to it. I was to post that lol. I like watching the kid pitch.
I’m rooting for the Phillies to sign Castillo for Utley insurance and him biting the Mets in a big spot somewhere.
Not only do I forgive but not forget, I can be vindictive at times too.
Anyone else happy yhat the tournament is playinh on multople channela this year? Better than being stuck watching the only game on that happens to be a blow out.
was about to post*
I am not rooting for the Phillies to do anything good.
If I were Joe, I’d start Hughes in the 4th game. That means he opens the Boston series.
If Girardi plays it straight, and skips #5 he first time through, that means #4, #5 (first start) and #1 (Sabathia) pitch in Boston.
He doesn’t skip #5 first time through, then #3, #4, #5 (all second start) go in Boston.
Whichever way he goes, JG has good reason to schedule the starter he feels more strongly about after CC in the 3 or 4 slot, if practical, rather than ceremonial, matters matter.
pat – i’m not certain castillo lands with another club at this point… that would be hilarious though
Morrow is where Joba should be. Why aren’t these games on?

I’m with you, I hope they crash and burn on the field, and everything that can go wrong, does.
Lee gets a chronic back problem, Doc has to sit out 6 weeks with a sore arm etc. Its started already with Utley.

2009 called, they want their joke back.

I hope the Yankees beat Texas in the 2011 ALDS, Boston in the ALCS and Philly in the WS.
But that’s just me….

Just looking for a little karma for Castillo because I really dislike when players are scapegoated.
Also why I try not to root against teams just FOR the ones they are playing.

Yeah–that’ll lower their average age for Lee, won’t it?
I so want to see video of this HR but the game wasn’t being broadcast anywhere so it’s probably doubtful anyone recorded it.
ESPN_MLB A-Rod’s got Girardi’s attention – http://es.pn/e7VS99
I would think instead that the Phillies move Palinco back to 2B and pick up a 3B (Feliz?) until Utley returns.
oh I like that scenario Stuckey
Boone Logan hadn’t pitched in a game since March 4 before he pitched last night. I’m not sure how many times Feliciano has thrown on the side since his previous outing, but extended rest isn’t especially unusual if this really is nothing more than a dead arm situation for Feliciano. He was pitching pretty well when he was getting into games.

QFT.
I suppose because Toronto is not exactly a baseball haven despite Morrow pitching today and the Leafs’ status as a perpetual bottom feeder.
Didn’t the Jays used to sell out their stadium for seasons at a time? Give them a contender, and I think the fans will support them.
I love watching Morrow pitch….against other teams. Exactly what Joba could be.
BTW–Morrow used to struggle with his velocity at one time as well…also was wild. Shows what a good pitching coach and confidence can do.

According to USA Today Sports Feliciano has discomfort in his left upper arm and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
stuckey99 March 18th, 2011 at 12:23 pm
I like that scenario very much as well. Beating Lee in the 2 games he pitches would be the grand prize.
Ten ten things for 2011.
1. Youk getting beaned by joba.
2. Montero owning seattle and lee.
3. Beckett gets blistered by yankee hitting and calls us his step daddy.
4. Lots of pies in in yankees faces.
5. Intercontimental belt for a player that did the little things to help win the game.
6. Bostons gonzalez does his impersonation of mo vaughn with the mets and busts.
7. Tex has 61days of may.
8. Alex owns puckerlips.
9. Lees wife gets a phili cheese steak thrown at her while lee is getting knocked around.
10. 28
I think I’ll put more faith in the Chad Jennings reports on players.

The game Morrow threw against the Rays was exciting. He dominated them from the start.
A change of scenery did Morrow some good maybe it can be the same for Chamberlain.
Stuckey99/Big Al–
Nah. I want to see the phillies finish third and Lee not even get a sniff of th eplay-offs for his entire time there. I want his decisoin to look really stupid at the end of the day.
AAo–
Or a change of pitching coach–can also make all the difference. If Joba shows his velocity throughout the year and has improved mechanics, I still hold out hope for him to get another shot before he bolts eventually as a FA.
I know the Yankees carry themselves in a classy way but sometimes I wish they would take shots at certain players when need be. I felt they were too nice in responding to what Cliff Lee said.

I think even if all those things happen he still won’t get a shot. I would love to be wrong but I truly feel he’s never going to start for the Yankees no matter what need arises or much he has improved.

But think of how much fun it would be to see Lee get his butt handed to him in YS, and the crowd screaming, Who’s Your Daddy!
Then after the WS, Lee demands a trade to Texas, where he goes 2-15, then retires.
If the Phillies lose Utley then the Braves will win the East…..they could win it anyway.
Bojo,
im with you on lee not sniffing the playoffs. Send a message that one player is not bigger than the team and there is no simulating yankee mystique.
utley missed 50 games last year, rollins about 80 and they won anyway. and thier SP is better this year.

If they win it all that’s when they’ll take their shots. Just like in 2009 when Jeter responded to comments made by Rollins.

The Philly custom is to vomit on the wife and kids. Surely the tradition will continue if he struggles.
The Braves are better, the Phillies are a year older, and lost Werth. If they lose Utley for most of the season that offense is going to struggle.
LOL@Big Al…you have a point.
Utley could very well be gone for the season.

They also don’t have Worth and their BP is worse than last year. So while the SP has improved the other 2 areas have been weakened.
I agree that the Braves can take them in the East…
Bojo,
if phili fans cant make an exception. Then a vomit after eating a cheese steak will have to do.

*watches Philly fans rip up their WS tickets*
the rules for releasing a player are pretty unfair, imo. the mets have to pay $6M to castillo, who by all accounts moped and whined his way through ST and when faced with inferior competition for his playing time chose to demand a trade instead of competing for his spot.
now the mets are on the hook for $6M and the phils can pick him up for the ml minimum. thats unfair to the mets (not that i care about the mets but its the principle).
i think that a team picking up a player in that situation should have to pay maybe 1/2 of the remaining salary. so if the player wants to get picked up by another team, he has to show something. the current situation almost encourages disgruntled players to not put in a full effort.
castillo should be ashamed of himself. im not one who picked apart his play for the mets, they signed a guy who was already in deep decline, that’s thier problem. but for him not to even try to win his own spot on the starting team is inexcusable.
BoJo -
Would it be funny if the Phillies finished 3rd, behind the Braves and Nats?
Then in an interview Werth says, “I wanted to play for a team that had a chance to make the playoffs every year, were younger, and had great talent in the system.”

we have this same discussion over and over. the yankees are older than the phils so if you are going to invoke the age thing with them, how much to you figure the age thing will drag down the yankees?

It would be a shame and like I said I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see them changing course no matter how many steps he takes forward. Francesa has said more than once that when it comes to certain things Cashman can be stubborn. I think this is one of those things.

LOL! Noted.
Catch you all later.
HAve to run as well…later folks…enjoy the day.
so your answer is that age is a bigger problem for the phillies, who are younger, than it will be for the yankees.
just so i have the logic down…
Y’s, your scenario would give team’s control over player’s careers. If they decide to release him, your rules would effectively let the Mets end his career, because no team will pick up that money.
As is, a waiver system exists and he will pass through that. Any team CAN pick up his contract if they so choose.
