Wow, I just read that Feliciano hasn’t pitched in 9 days – that’s what Girardi calls a little extra rest?

  2. Irreverent Discourse March 18th, 2011 at 11:55 am

I think the Mets dumping Castillo outright only shows how little their financial problems are determined or will be fixed by their payroll.

  3. ac1 March 18th, 2011 at 11:56 am

I dont think PF needs a lot of ST outings as a lefty specialist, which is what he will be for us. As long as he can come in and put out the lefties in boston, and then the other teams, he will be fine.

  4. blake March 18th, 2011 at 11:57 am

    Morrow is nasty.

  5. teddy9000 March 18th, 2011 at 12:01 pm

morrow is nasty, his big thing is control, he like joba, only he keep his above average fastball as a starter

  6. yankeefeminista March 18th, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Ugh, I want to see Morrow pitch.

As for Feliciano… I was a little concerned about the innings he has logged in the past, but I didn’t think he would be out this soon. What is the party line?

I’m rooting for the Phillies to sign Castillo for Utley insurance and him biting the Mets in a big spot somewhere.

Not only do I forgive but not forget, I can be vindictive at times too.

  12. stuckey99 March 18th, 2011 at 12:12 pm

If I were Joe, I’d start Hughes in the 4th game. That means he opens the Boston series.

If Girardi plays it straight, and skips #5 he first time through, that means #4, #5 (first start) and #1 (Sabathia) pitch in Boston.

He doesn’t skip #5 first time through, then #3, #4, #5 (all second start) go in Boston.

Whichever way he goes, JG has good reason to schedule the starter he feels more strongly about after CC in the 3 or 4 slot, if practical, rather than ceremonial, matters matter.

  13. Irreverent Discourse March 18th, 2011 at 12:13 pm

  26. Chad Jennings March 18th, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Boone Logan hadn’t pitched in a game since March 4 before he pitched last night. I’m not sure how many times Feliciano has thrown on the side since his previous outing, but extended rest isn’t especially unusual if this really is nothing more than a dead arm situation for Feliciano. He was pitching pretty well when he was getting into games.

I suppose because Toronto is not exactly a baseball haven despite Morrow pitching today and the Leafs’ status as a perpetual bottom feeder.

I love watching Morrow pitch….against other teams. Exactly what Joba could be.

BTW–Morrow used to struggle with his velocity at one time as well…also was wild. Shows what a good pitching coach and confidence can do.

    1. Youk getting beaned by joba.
    2. Montero owning seattle and lee.
    3. Beckett gets blistered by yankee hitting and calls us his step daddy.
    4. Lots of pies in in yankees faces.
    5. Intercontimental belt for a player that did the little things to help win the game.
    6. Bostons gonzalez does his impersonation of mo vaughn with the mets and busts.
    7. Tex has 61days of may.
    8. Alex owns puckerlips.
    9. Lees wife gets a phili cheese steak thrown at her while lee is getting knocked around.

The game Morrow threw against the Rays was exciting. He dominated them from the start.

A change of scenery did Morrow some good maybe it can be the same for Chamberlain.

Or a change of pitching coach–can also make all the difference. If Joba shows his velocity throughout the year and has improved mechanics, I still hold out hope for him to get another shot before he bolts eventually as a FA.

But think of how much fun it would be to see Lee get his butt handed to him in YS, and the crowd screaming, Who’s Your Daddy!

Then after the WS, Lee demands a trade to Texas, where he goes 2-15, then retires.

the rules for releasing a player are pretty unfair, imo. the mets have to pay $6M to castillo, who by all accounts moped and whined his way through ST and when faced with inferior competition for his playing time chose to demand a trade instead of competing for his spot.

now the mets are on the hook for $6M and the phils can pick him up for the ml minimum. thats unfair to the mets (not that i care about the mets but its the principle).

i think that a team picking up a player in that situation should have to pay maybe 1/2 of the remaining salary. so if the player wants to get picked up by another team, he has to show something. the current situation almost encourages disgruntled players to not put in a full effort.

castillo should be ashamed of himself. im not one who picked apart his play for the mets, they signed a guy who was already in deep decline, that’s thier problem. but for him not to even try to win his own spot on the starting team is inexcusable.

  55. BIG AL March 18th, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Would it be funny if the Phillies finished 3rd, behind the Braves and Nats?

Then in an interview Werth says, “I wanted to play for a team that had a chance to make the playoffs every year, were younger, and had great talent in the system.”

just so i have the logic down…

  65. stuckey99 March 18th, 2011 at 1:09 pm

Y’s, your scenario would give team’s control over player’s careers. If they decide to release him, your rules would effectively let the Mets end his career, because no team will pick up that money.

As is, a waiver system exists and he will pass through that. Any team CAN pick up his contract if they so choose.
