TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., note on television

WEATHER: Today was pretty much perfect. I’ll be back in the cold and snow soon enough, but today was another great day without a cloud in the sky. The wind is blowing out to center field a little bit. Nothing too crazy.

UMPIRES: HP Phil Cuzzi, 1B Eric Cooper, 2B Mark Wegner, 3B Andy Fletcher

ON THE LINE: Girardi is considering using two different lineups, one for lefties and one for righties. This is a look at what the lineup could look like against left-handed starters.

OUT OF THE BULLPEN FOR THE YANKEES: Mariano Rivera, Boone Logan and Luis Ayala are the first three relievers listed.

OUT OF THE BULLPEN FOR THE BLUE JAYS: LHP David Purcey is the only reliever listed in the Blue Jays notes. I’m sure they have more than that on the trip, though.

MORROW TO THE DL: The Blue Jays have announced that starter Brandon Morrow will open the season on the disabled list. Ricky Romero will start Opening Day for Toronto, followed by Kyle Drabek, Brett Cecil, Jo Jo Reyes and Jesse Litsch.

UPDATE, 7:03 p.m.: Couple of quick updates. Jordan Parraz, Jose Gil, Jorge Vazquez, Kevin Russo, Brandon Laird, Melky Mesa and Greg Golson have been sent to minor league camp. They’ll report after tomorrow’s off day.

Russo, Laird and Mesa were optioned previously, but they didn’t actually report. This time they will. Golson was sent down so that he can finally get at-bats.

Also, Curtis Granderson went for an MRI that showed a slight strain of the internal oblique. No tear and Granderson didn’t hear a pop when it happened, but it sounds like the Yankees might be cautious rather than push him toward Opening Day.

“The talks I’ve had with Cashman right away (were), we just need you ready,” Granderson said. “Whenever you’re ready, we want you ready. It doesn’t matter about Opening Day. As exciting as that is and as important as that is, it’s still just one game out of this whole 162-game season. We want you ready to go for the long haul, which is obviously the most important thing. That’s been the consistent conversation I’ve heard from not only (Cashman) but from Joe, the rest of the coaching staff and training staff as well.”

UPDATE, 7:38 p.m.: Phil Hughes looks sharp through three innings. He’s allowed two hits, but he’s struck out four and seems to have things working in the zone.

UPDATE, 8:08 p.m.: A couple of fourth-inning doubles gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead, but Hughes responded with a 1-2-3 fifth.

UPDATE, 8:29 p.m.: The Blue Jays and Yankees are basically wearing the exact same uniforms — both have dark tops — and Gardner just seemed to mistake a Jays base runner for the Yankees first baseman. He basically threw to first to try to double off a base runner, but there was no fielder to take the throw and instead everyone advanced. Kind of goofy. It’s 3-0 Toronto in the bottom of the sixth.

UPDATE, 9:08 p.m.: A four-run seventh has pushed the Yankees into the lead. They scored those runs on two hits, two walks, an error and a sac fly. The Yankees have a 4-3 lead, despite only four hits. Here’s Mariano Rivera to pitch the eighth.

Is it bad that the first thing I thought was, “too bad for whoever has Brandon Morrow on their fantasy team?”

    :)

    ***

I was hoping Granderson’s was just a minor discomfort, but it seems like it’s going to take some time. Sheesh. Which reminds me of what Girardi said about the players being dehyrdrated because it’s been hot and that last spring it rained a lot and so they were more hydrated. I know what he meant, but it still is cracking me up. I keep picturing players standing in the outfield soaking up the rain!

    ugh….Jays broadcast.

    Doreen,

Worst case scenario is grandy goes on the DL.

Best case is that the misses the Detroit series.

    Doreen,

My first thought was, “I hope we play them when he’s on the DL.”

    Vineyard Yankee -

If we ever do get there again, I really hope it’s just a trip for two. :)

I do wish we’d known about the air balloons, though. We were there in August…

And if I’m still posting here, and you’re still posting here if I ever get to make that trip, I will be asking you for recommendations!

    =============

I think the trip for two would be better, I know about our commitment to our kids though makes it difficult sometimes.

Pretty much anything from SF, North to the Sonoma / Napa Valleys I could help you with, just let me know and I will be happy to.

Like the caves behind Gloria Ferrer where ‘Stuckey’ visited, he was right there and unfortunately the caves slipped by. Very cool to see as Gloria is known for their Champagne more than there wines. :-)

  8. Benny Blanco March 23rd, 2011 at 7:06 pm

It will be interesting to see how many homeruns bautista hits this year.

    Over or under for 35?

  9. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Good little test against the Jays tonight for Hughes….they owned him last year.

  10. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 7:08 pm

Gardner is so dang fast…..I thought for sure that was in the gap and he cuts it off and hoses him at 2nd

  22. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 7:12 pm

This is awful. The Toronto announcers and zero field noise.

  23. Doreen March 23rd, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Thanks Vineyard Yankee, that would be much appreciated. The guide books can only tell you so much, you know?

I’m gonna make a firm stand and say Bautista under 35 HRs this year.

“When you’ve got a guy on the ropes in the first inning you’ve got to take advantage of him” – Jays announcers

    “Sorry, Heymans was his opinion”

It doesn’t strike you as the least bit curious that four people in Florida, most of them around the Yankees every day (Harper, Flaherty, Curry and Heyman) have arrived at the same speculation within hours of one another?

There is very likely a good reason for that..

  28. Pat M. March 23rd, 2011 at 7:13 pm

Nice off speed stuff…..ERA over 7.00 last year vs Toronto, yikes

  29. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 7:13 pm

What game are these guys watching?

They may not be in the same stadium, based on the sound

  30. Irreverent Discourse March 23rd, 2011 at 7:13 pm

I’ll go over on Bautista, high 30′s assuming he’s healthy all season

  32. Irreverent Discourse March 23rd, 2011 at 7:14 pm

^ for no reason other than “under” is the easy bet :)

It is curious, but ultimately I think will prove to be nothing. Montero may not make the trip north, but I don’t think Romine will go in his place. I don’t want to go all broken record you’ve read why I think so. I would go for mystery 3rd catcher.

  34. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 7:15 pm

    Lefty lineup today

  35. Pat M. March 23rd, 2011 at 7:15 pm

  36. Joe from Long Island March 23rd, 2011 at 7:16 pm

Nice first inning by Phil. Yeah, Escobar hit a hard single, but Phil’s curve and cutter have been good, and he got Bautista looking.

  37. GreenBeret7 March 23rd, 2011 at 7:16 pm

    Good 1st inning for hughes

  38. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 7:16 pm

  42. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 7:22 pm

I know its “spring training” but based on ST so far, how would you rate martin’s game calling?

he has fallen into the trap of using all of a pitchers pitches early, instead of letting them prove they can hit the fastball.

Buck Martinez, former manager who SOMEHOW convinced a network to let him do play by play, he used to do color/PBP for MASN

    Jerkface -

Just scrolled up and saw your post and I was going to post the same thing. It’s as if they are announcing from some studio far away. Like it’s overdubbed or something. Not pleasant to listen to.

Ya think Gardner needs some time in CF?????

  48. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Good change there….got him out in front and popped him up. The cutter almost looks sliderish today.

  49. SAS March 23rd, 2011 at 7:27 pm

I am so excited; I just got home and the game is on. It is weird that Toronto and the Yankees are wearing the same uniforms.

  57. stuckey99 March 23rd, 2011 at 7:30 pm

    JF,

Someone in the Yankee organization has been having what you call “conversations with a purpose” with members of the Yankees media. Off the record, but giving them talking points.

Now I don’t know why and what the exact motivations are, but the Yankees want Romine’s name to be out there today, this I can say with near certainty.

  58. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 7:30 pm

It’s annoying about Grandy, but if they are just very careful with it, hopefully he won’t miss too much time.

  59. Benny Blanco March 23rd, 2011 at 7:30 pm

  68. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 23rd, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Doreen, I think that would be the natural first reaction of anybody on a fantasy league. (I actually had to go and look to see if he was mine.) I don’t even know what it’s about, but as I went to look I was already feeling bad for him because the kid needs a break with his injuries. He has such great potential.

    1. He is not mine.

    2. I did want to draft him.

  69. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 23rd, 2011 at 7:36 pm

Other than the Chicago broadcasters for sure, the competitors broadcasters are usually pretty solicitous of the Yanks. It doesn’t hurt to hear a game from their perspective. On top of it, you get inside information on their players.

I don’t mind it for a change, especially during ST.

I used to force myself to listen to other broadcasts during last year for fantasy league info. White Sox are a hoot! Hawk Harrelson is the worst homer I have ever heard, so much so that it was funny to listen to.

I liked Palmer with Os, but can’t really remember anyone else that impressed me as good.

To be honest though, I don’t like the Yankees broadcast team except for Lorenz, Singleton, Flaherty, and now Cone.

That play just is nowhere near as easy as he makes it look.

    1. Jerkface – yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Not trying to jinx Morrow, but that’s what I’m thinking.

    2. LGY, blake – agreed.

    3. I never ceased to be amazed by Cano’s play in the field. He makes tough plays look routine. What an arm.

What did Robbie do? The old “up the middle, throwing a bullet across his body play?”

  110. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Now that he’s won his first Gold Glove, it should be the first of several – Cano is an incredible all-around player.

  124. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 23rd, 2011 at 8:03 pm

bojo – Harrelson is the WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bigger homer. The two things he says that I hate the most – “2-0, good guys” and ‘GRAB SOME BENCH!” He really makes me so sick.

I also cannot stand Don Orsillo but for a different reason. He has a loud voice with that little cry in his voice, and every call sounds like the last play in the 7th game of the world series.

Jerry Remy is actually really good.

On the other hand, the only time during the season that I get any broadcast other than YES when the Yanks are playing is when the play the Sux and I am forced into NESN. However, I get all feeds from all teams through DirectTV so if I wanted to listen to the enemy broadcast, I could do that too!

One thing Hughes really has to do better is to make better pitches with 2 strikes ahead in the count…especially 0-2. Last year he just went after way to many hitters in those counts instead of expanding the zone and getting them to hit his pitch.

  202. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 23rd, 2011 at 8:29 pm

Bojo – you have to understand me and the way I play fantasy baseball. I am FEARLESS.

Plus I wouldn’t have picked up the guy if I didn’t think he had more upside potential than someone already on my team.

    ***********

I’m sure this is information that small minds will have a blast poking fun at. For that reason I shouldn’t even mention it. But there is no question that I am an horizontal thinker far more than a vertical thinker. I am able to think vertically but definitely favor horizontal. It isn’t that one is superior to the other, just that they are very different from each other.

There is no question in my mind that jerkface is a vertical thinker. People who think horizontally don’t have any problem understanding vertical thinkers, they just don’t always agree with them. Vertical thinkers absolutely cannot understand horizontal thinking and therefore think of it as someone having three heads.

Classic in-the-box as opposed to out-of-the-box thinking.

  223. CB March 23rd, 2011 at 8:37 pm

    Blake-

Pretty sure that strike out pitch was a cutter. Didn’t look like a curve and had that same downward action his other cutters had tonight.

The most significant story of this game was that pitch.

If Hughes can continue to throw his cut fastball like that it’s a significant step forward for him.

  224. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 pm

    What’s the score and inning?

  225. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 pm

CB, is the cutter supposed to move downward?

Cutter should cut sideways and can have some downward movement. The more downward movement you get the closer to a slider it is. Nova’s new slider is thrown with a cutter grip, but it acts like a slider.

Cutters should be fastball speed with subtle movement, sliders should have great break. If Hughes took a note out of Nova’s book and is using his cutter more like a slider, it could greatly increase the swing and miss% on it. His cutter was already his best pitch at that.

  226. GreenBeret7 March 23rd, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Blake, I’d have to assume that he did, but, not much life in his swings, either

  227. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 8:39 pm

    CB,

yea, I think it was as well but as you say it just looks different than his usual cutter does. Wonder if he has changed anything or if that’s just how it was coming out of his hand tonight….interesting.

  230. jacksquat March 23rd, 2011 at 8:40 pm

Too many of Hughes’ pitches are up in the zone. It’s not all the defense. That said, not a bad outing, considering the Blue Jays killed him last year.

  231. Nick in SF March 23rd, 2011 at 8:40 pm

I try to think trapezoidally, and that tells me that if the Blue Jays are having a Bautista bobblehead giveaway on April 3rd then they could be a little worried about attendance this season.

  232. CB March 23rd, 2011 at 8:41 pm

    Betsy,

Everyone’s cutter tends to act differently depending on arm slot, arm action etc.

So it’s really not supposed to move in a particular way.

Usually the big thing with the cutter is how late and sharp the action is.

So Mo’s cutter actually doesn’t break as dramatically as other pitchers does – but it’s so late and tight hitters can’t pick it up.

All that said – Hugehs usually throws his cutter with late, horizontal movement. The real function of that pitch is to keep the ball off the sweet spot of the bat.

Tonight it has much more dowards action. More like the cutter that say Lester throws. Not as good but that variety.

  233. GreenBeret7 March 23rd, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Even the soft rollers get through off of Hughes.

  234. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 8:41 pm

I don’t mistake your making fun of what I post as anything more than what it is. Or to quote one of the crusaders talking to St. Francis, “I often laugh at things I don’t understnd.”

  236. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Jerkface, thanks! I don’t want him to use a slider grip for sure – too much strain on the arm.

I obviously didn’t see much of the game, but if his curve was good for the most part, I think that’s a big deal as well. When his curve is right, it’s very good – just getting it to be a consistently good pitch would be huge for Phil.

  237. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Tonight it has much more dowards action. More like the cutter that say Lester throws. Not as good but that variety.

Pettittes cutter was very slider like at the end of his career as well.

  239. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 8:42 pm

    Pat M.-

I didn’t know that. But as I think about it it makes sense. He has such good command.

I do think he could be more aggressive inside and move guys feet to set up the outside corner e.g. back door cutter.

  241. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 8:42 pm

Hughes still in there, leaving the ball up now more….getting that pitch count stretched out.

  242. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 8:43 pm

You are as vertical as they come. In fact you could be the posterchild for vertical thinking. You wouldn’t know what to do if you couldn’t quanity it

Vertical thinking is not really about quantifying anything, its about using existing information to solve problems. Given that sabermetrics are an OUTSIDE THE BOX view on a very traditional sport, my thinking is the epitome of horizontal thinking, which is challenging the establishment and trying to discover new things.

But continue to romanticize your own brain for all of us. Type-A, Horizontal, Go You! Empower yourself!

CB, I admit I’m a bit down on the cutter. I recall either you or SJ saying last year that Phil does not technically have a very good cutter – that is, it’s not that good as a stand alone pitch, only in conjunction with his FB does it work well. I mean, it’s a nice pitch for him to have, but I’d prefer his main secondary pitch to be the curve.

I think Hughes may be getting more on top of the his cutter tonight rather than being around the ball as he usually is?

Don’t know for sure. It’s kind of what it looks like.

I say that in part because in general he’s been more on top of the ball tonight.

You can see it on his curve ball as well. That’s what’s producing the harder downward bite on the curve as well when he stays on top.

  253. blake March 23rd, 2011 at 8:46 pm

He has also thrown 2 curves tonight, though I may have just mistaken this more bitey cutter. He threw a few with sharp break for swings and misses and dropped in a couple for strikes.

    Yes a handful or more.

  258. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 8:47 pm

I may be proven wrong, but i still say I would prefer Golson to Jones. Golson is better defensively, is hungry as a player, and would benefit from working with KLong to where I could see him being a 4th PLUS OFer.

All I see Jones bringing over Golson is a few more homers…but probably a lower BA/OBP and certainly less defense and hustle.

    We’ll see.

  259. Benny Blanco March 23rd, 2011 at 8:47 pm

SJ may have said that as well – but I do remember saying that about Hughe’s cutter last year.

It’s really a third pitch. Not a second.

The cutter he threw tonight (assuming it was a cutter) looked much closer to being a legitimate second pitch, IMO.

  279. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 8:52 pm

I won’t say Golson over Jones yet – I’m all for allowing veterans a real chance to show what they have in the regular season as ST often means nothing. That said, I really love watching Golson throw……………..That said again, if you can’t hit, you can’t hit.

CB, it will be interesting to see what Phil says about it. It’s not that I dislike the cutter, but I’ve always favored a good curve and I love Phil’s when it’s right. I kind of think at times that the Yanks have overemphasizsed the change at the expense of the curve. It’s really great that he used ALL his pitches tonight.

  306. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 9:01 pm

    Betsy–

I don’t think it is so much about whether the curve ball is a better secondary pitch than the cutter or change…it is more about how well the pitcher deceives the hitter. Pitchers like Lee, Mo, and Halladay can mix 2 seamers, cutters, and 4 seamers and change ups to make hitters look ridiculous. To me, it is more about the quality of Hughes’ cutter and whether it looks enough like his FB and still moves off the bat. If he is throwing over the top as some mentioned and getting good movement while disguising the pitch, he can put the curve in hisback pocket and never use it for all I care.

  322. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I’m not so much concerned about Jones’ hitting; it’s that he just looks like he labors too much. Jerkface, hopefully by the time the’ve seen enough of Jones, one of the Laird, Golson, etc., will be doing some good things and be worth a shot.

He lumbers in left field, looks like he is struggling to run around to get to pitches. In the end it only matters if gets to them, but I don’t like watching that. He had a really great beginning to 2010, and I hope he finds the same luck in 2011, but he also OPS’d .900 in spring in 2010 :(

Thames looked equally atrocious at the plate and in the field in 2010, so he could always turn it around. Thames is a streak hitter that needs consistent work and really came into his own when he got regular play time.

Jones may find the same if Granderson starts on the DL

One thing I’m also going to do is the Kim Possible mission. I think you use your cell-phone, but what you do is you get clues to solve a mystery that you need to find in the World Showcase pavillions. For each clue you find, some kind of cool special effect takes place – like, say, a statue appearing to fly. It ‘s supposed to be a world of fun

Sorry–I was using the Lee example and wasn’t thinking about Hughes while typing. But my point still remains that a pitcher can get bye with just a few pitches…if he can keep the hitters fooled with their late movement.

I personally would prefer Hughes to develop a good 2 seamer than a curve because it would probably be more consistent to command.

  331. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Doreen, I changed my reservations from Kouzzina to Tutto Italia. I’ve heard way too many bad things about the former (food, service, etc…) and I was not feeling comfortable with it. To be fair, lots of people liked it, but it was too iffy for me. I normally do not go out to Italian restaurants on vacation because I eat pasta all the time here, but given the French, African and fish dishes I’ll be having for the most part, I decided that good old Italian would be just fine. I love eating at Epcot……

You don’t have to buy the setting, you could always just keep the pearl and find your own setting. Just in case you don’t see anything you like. The pick a pearl girls are nice, was friends with the old batch (they work on 1.5 year contracts as an exchange program along with the rest of the pavillion). All of them were safe from the earthquake.

Rivera needs to go to the pen and work on his pitches. No strikeouts and only one broken bat.

  337. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Hughes doesn’t have to exclude another type of pitch to develop a 2seamer. It should bite into the amount of fastballs he throws, not offspeed.

  338. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Bojo, I still think a good curve is a great pitch and Phil has had one in the past, but I like the 2-seamer because of the ground balls they generate. YS just is a bad park for him and while I think it’s a bad idea to completely change who you are as a pitcher to deal with the park, it’s not a bad idea to change a little bit. No, he doesn’t need a million pitches to succeed – that’s to be sure.

  339. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 23rd, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Bets, are you going on your own?

  340. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 9:17 pm

And a 2 seam isn’t really something he has to work on a lot, its just a fastball that moves more. Pitchers can incorporate that into their arsenal more quickly than a breaking pitch.

  341. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 9:17 pm

Jerkface, that’s right – I guess I could just buy the pearl and get it set here; it’s such a nice idea. I did not know they work on an exchanage program- how cool. I’m so glad your friends are ok……… :)

The culprit in Hughes being a FB pitcher is his 4-seam, his curve gets groundballs at a good rate. If he used his explosive 4-seam upstairs and mixed in some 2-seams he may be able to bring his GB% up.

  345. Betsy March 23rd, 2011 at 9:18 pm

  350. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Trish, I’m not sure how it works, but I’m guessing they all have pearls – not planted, but cultivated on oyster farms (or whatever they’re called) to specifically grow pearls. I think it costs about $17, without the setting

I’ve done a lot of solo travelling especially when others couldn’t get the same vacation time, didn’t necessarily want to go to the same places, etc. There’s something to be said for doing exactly what you want, when you want.

    :)

Of course, please be really careful. Nuttiness in the world has caused me to rethink going far from home solo. (I went to Brazil by myself about 10 years ago, without anywhere to stay, and ended up wandering Rio at 3 in the morning looking for a place to stay right before Carnival. I would never think to do anything like that in this day and age.)

That is really great news on Hughes. I was hoping he did something intentionally to change that cutter.

That was a much better pitch for him tonight.

It was a legitimate second pitch.

Hopefully he can continue throwing it with the same action.

It’s actually good in many ways that the pitch is a bit slower. Before there was such little separation in velocity between his fastball and cutter that the only difference was that tailing action. Hitters just could keep their same timing/ swing speed.

I’m just not sure I want Andrew playing every day if Granderson misses time (hopefully he won’t). Maybe he comes on when the season starts but he’s looked bad and fairly disinterested this spring to me.

  417. Jerkface March 23rd, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Hughes threw a slider before he was drafted, was rated very highly for a high schooler’s pitch. If he has a cutter that performs similarly without the strain on the arm, that’d be great.

  418. jacksquat March 23rd, 2011 at 9:51 pm

It’s too bad Chavez only has 2 games (8.1 innings) of outfield experience. He could platoon with Jones.

If I am the Yankees I am picking up a veteran catcher for the short term. For all the supposed wealth at that position that we have — this spring hasn’t led me to believe we have a major league ready backup for Martin. If he goes down a for a week, I don’t want Montero or Romine playing every day based on what I have seen.

  427. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 9:56 pm

I want to see the Yankess decide on Jones after April 30. If he is struggling, cut him. Not just release, cut him with a switchblade for stealing money.

I repeat–does anyone else think Melky Cabrerra has matured this last winter so that he would be a good acquisition as a 4th OFer? JF–do you have a link to ST stats for him?

  428. CB March 23rd, 2011 at 9:56 pm

“Ledger_Yankees Hughes likes the new slider vs. righties; still will throw more of a cutter though to get in on lefties.”

Using both grips on the pitch is a good plan to add variety.

That said – the pitch he threw tonight – he should throw it to lefties as well.

  429. BoJo March 23rd, 2011 at 9:57 pm

  430. GreenBeret7 March 23rd, 2011 at 9:57 pm

I’ve had it. It sucks. I got it when I was training for my first triathlon. When I finally got over it I injured my achilles immediately after that, but now I’m good. One of the things that helped was getting fit for running shoes by a pro. I’m an over-pronator, so they put me in these Asics Gel Kayano’s and I’ve never had a problem since. If you haven’t done that, it might be something to look into. I had orthotics, but once I got the right shoe for my foot, the problem went away and I didn’t need the orthotics any longer. Good luck!

Maybe my walking over hill and dale every day was going to have an affect on my feet no matter what. It isn’t like I really eased into the process.

    :(

    I think I’m screwed.

    Doreen,

I have neither ring. Who knows where now. No idea.

    Doreen

I have a huge envelope filled with over 500 orbit gum wrappers that I started collecting in my senior year in high school.

Doreen, the gum flavors back then were too many to count….the Wrigley’s, Blackjack, Clover, Stripes. The girls would sit in back of class, stringing those things together…..except in one class. The teacher would wait until the end of class and the confiscate them all and tear ‘em apart. GASP!!!

    Trisha,

I got the shot in my heel. Painful wasn’t the word. More like torture.

GB, I usually ended up with the bloody fingers. And it is the white north here in Corning to the tune of about 10 inches…… Great, not so much.

Is mentioning 80 degree weather in Savannah cruel and rude?

“Trisha, no ESPN account here. Are you looking for an outfielder? Michael Morse and Roger Bernadina of Washington are powerspeed types.”

Had Bernandina and dropped him. Already picked up Michael Morse. I love me my Nats.

    :)

Fran – absolutely and unequivocally will not do it then. Will live with the pain.

    Trisha,

Since you love the Nats, there’s Ollie Perez. I’ll let you have him.

I have a ton of Marlins players.

you know my friends husband pitches in the Nationals minor league system. He sent me a text the other day saying he was on the bus sitting in the seat with Bryce Harper going to a minor league ST game.

    ?????

Okay I am seriously going you-know-where right now. And since it has started snowing for real and our forecast is for the rest of tonight and tomorrow, it appears I will be resting my foot after all!

    :)

    “Bryce Harper ”

Man alive, if I were in a keeper league, I’d have him already. I drafted Stephen Strasburg last year, pretty cool because he ended up coming up – for about six games. But it was nice while it lasted.
