Rainout

Posted by: Brian Heyman - Posted in Misc on Apr 06, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The game will not start on time. The tarp is on the field, although it’s not raining hard.

Update, 7:38: It’s raining pretty good now. So we wait. This is the Twins’ only scheduled trip in. If it’s called, maybe they could have a day/night doubleheader tomorrow. We’ll see what happens.

Update, 7:49: The game is rained out. No makeup date has been determined.

During the rain delay those with Extra Innings might want to mosey down to Cleveland to watch Dice-K fall apart!

    :)

Is this the Red Sox/ Indians game thread?

Of course! ER gets it started.

Just reading the quotes from LeBron. “Eighteen championships (for Liverpool). I see myself trying to do the same things they have.”

“I’m thrilled to be working with John Henry and Tom Werner.”

    trish,

    Gonna do exactly that.

Ugh. Didn’t know that’s who it was mel.

Even better. Let him be here to see his 0-4 heroes go 0-5.

    Drive, I’m there also.

  8. blake April 6th, 2011 at 7:03 pm

    Did you know:

no team that has ever stated the season 0-4 has then gone on to win the world series.

  9. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:04 pm

blake, I thought I heard NESN say last night that only KC had done it. Are ther teams that started 0-3 and won it? Because if there are, then I am sure they said one KC team had done it 0-4.

Cashman dealing for a new backup catcher while the rain falls on Gustavo Molina’s Yankee dreams????

  12. blake April 6th, 2011 at 7:06 pm

    trisha,

Thats just what I heard on the radio today….it was a trivia question. They said no team had ever won the WS after starting the season 0-4 and only one team had made it to the WS after starting the season 0-4…..I didn’t hear who the team was.

  13. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Poor Tribe. There are about 10 people there tonight.

  14. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

blake, that may have been it then! It was probably KC that made it to the WS.

  18. UpState April 6th, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Miami Heat star LeBron James is joining forces with Red Sox owners John Henry
    and Tom Werner….
in a deal that brings the basketball superstar together with the
Red Sox. (according to a report today in the Wall Street Journal online)

The deal between James and Fenway Sports Group will give James a minority stake in the
Liverpool Football Club, which FSG purchased on October.

Something to think about while watching the Red Sox tonight.

In MLB history, 110 teams have started 0-5; just two made the postseason

    1. 1974 Pirates

    2. 1995 Reds

Seriously, we need to be welcoming to ER. He is absolutely too flippin’ freakin’ dumb to realize that bad karma he visits by living on our forum and playing the role of midge-like Dbag.

I guess he believes that karma either doesn’t exist or that he is exempt.

    Meanwhile DiceK couldn’t stink more.

  62. BD (Boston Dave) April 6th, 2011 at 7:32 pm

He actually has pretty good stuff… just has no idea where it’s going.

  63. 108 stitches April 6th, 2011 at 7:32 pm

  68. m April 6th, 2011 at 7:33 pm

blake, some espn guy said that managers had been misusing cc for 8 years. Said that boston’s slow start was the perfect time to drop cc to 7th where he belongs. But the problem is cc is getting paid to have a more visible role IMO.

The article came out the day he dropped cc in game 3. Pretty funny.

  69. Chambliss April 6th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Dice looks sharp tonight. $50 million posting fee…lmao

  70. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

“Karma doesn’t exist, the Red Sox just aren’t very good. Nothing supernatural about it.”

The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive! Karma definitely exists AND the Sux aren’t very good.

    :)

But what’s nice is that ER being here just insures that the pain comes more quickly for them. Hey I’m all for it.

  71. Jerkface April 6th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

SAS, I was feeling fine, so there was no reason for me not to go to work. They were surprised I was there, but I’m glad I went – I did leave about 35 minutes early. I can deal with stiffness and aches …………How are you doing?

  74. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

“Could you imagine if the this years yankee team was about to go 0-5?”

Benny if this year’s Yankee team was about to go 0-5, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be on this forum because I would be strung up for being optimistic.

    :)

  75. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

fatso got a hit. I guess ER decided to go to SOSH where he can cry unashamedly.

  76. blake April 6th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

    m,

I agree. He should hit lead off….at least again RHP but he doesn’t like to lead off apparently. He’s a good player….he’s not the type of player that impacts a game enough to warrant the contract he received IMO…..I’d take him on the Yanks sure, but if Sox fans are expecting 20 million per impact then they probably aren’t going to get it.

Irving going pro by the way after 1 season…..Barnes still deciding.

  99. Carlo April 6th, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Blake – since I saw u were discussing barnes/irving/hoops. I am sure u saw that the huskies, from the big east, were crowned champions, capping off the 2011 season in which the big east was far and away the nations best conference.

UNC looks head and shoulders better than the rest next year if Barnes returns. If he doesn’t, with zeller and henson saying they’re both back, they’ll be pretty darn good.

Duke, in my opinion, will have a rebuilding year. Even with rivers, the talent drain is too much to overcome.

I’m doing fine. The weather is not so good and the kids are coming this weekend. Tough for my grandson if it rains. He’s only 3. It is too cold to swim which he isn’t wild about anyway. It may storm…frustrating. The weather should be perfect here this time of year.

  103. P April 6th, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Im not sure why Joe G. Takes out so many players at the same time.. Why would remove Jorge, jete and Martin in one game ? I don’t get that mentality.. Maybe he does it fora reason but I donti get it.

Anyone have an opinion on this, as to why.. Instead of staggering the changes?

Yea yea yea….just like VCU and Butler were 2 of the 4 best teams right ;) I’m cautiously optimistic that Barnes will return….he may go but I have a feeling he’ll be back for one more year, we’ll see. Irving will be the #1 pick and he’s already been hurt….I hate to see guys leave after one year but it’s probably the right decision in his case.

“I hate rain delays and postponements. What a waste of a night. Now I am stuck watching Dice K”

Nobody’s forcing you to watch it. Lots of baseball on other stations too.

  122. ac1 April 6th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

DO NOT want Burnett pitching at Fenway. He has been soooo bad there since he came to NY.

  123. Jerkface April 6th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

    They should just skip Garcia.

  124. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

  125. ac1 April 6th, 2011 at 7:54 pm

anyone else hoping that burnett pitches tomorrow and garcia starts in Boston?

  126. Tarheel In NYC April 6th, 2011 at 7:55 pm

I’m disappointed to not be able to watch the game, but I think it’s a good thing. At least the bullpen can rest now.

  127. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 7:55 pm

ac1, I like what I’ve seen from Burnett so am hoping it lasts.

  128. ac1 April 6th, 2011 at 7:55 pm

this is good news for the bullpen though. should all be set to go friday, instead of short for tonight. Just hoping no double header tomorrow…

  129. blake April 6th, 2011 at 7:55 pm

If AJ throws like he did the other night then he’ll be fine at Fenway.

  130. LGY April 6th, 2011 at 7:55 pm

This is probably good for the Yankees but this still sucks

  131. Joe from Long Island April 6th, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Bummer for us, but not too shabby for the players.

No playing on a wet, cold field. No starts and stops. Guys get a day off, bullpen gets rested, and Joe can set up the rotation any way he wants for Boston. Even if there’s a DH tomorrow, you use Colon for one. That’s his job. It will work out.

    It’s all good.

  132. Nick in SF April 6th, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I think there should be a doubleheader tomorrow; keep everyone on schedule and get Gustavo Molina involved in our glorious 2011 Yankee season.

Turn off your phone, Cashman, we want G-Mole!

  133. 38HotDogs April 6th, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Godzilla with a 2RBI double to put the A’s up on the Jays

    ============

Five games in and they need a rest along with Jeter, Posada and Martin. Hmmm……..could it be Girardi’s binder ?

Hopefully all the regulars along with the pen will be raring to go when they hit Beantown on Friday.

  139. benfica356 April 6th, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Ledger_Yankees AJ will pitch tomorrow. Garcia bumped back to first game of the Rangers series.

  140. pat April 6th, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Not sure I want the Sox 0 fer when the Yanks arrive at Fenway because the Law of Due has to kick in at some point, doesn’t it?

  141. Carlo April 6th, 2011 at 8:07 pm

Blake – always appreciate a yea, yea, yea. Ur not alone, can’t stand the 1 and done.

The bottom line is, I said before the tourney, the national champion doesn’t mean their conference was the best. That was my defense to the last few titles coming from the ACC. Uconn was the 9th place team in the big east though.

  142. Fran the original April 6th, 2011 at 8:08 pm

    Pat,

I thought the same thing. No team ever went 0-162, and I would not want the Sox 1st win to come against the Yankees.

  143. Joe from Long Island April 6th, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Pelfrey getting knocked around by Phillies – 6 runs in the 4th. He got knocked around 1st game of season, also.

Mets really need to get Pelfrey right. It wouldn’t pay to have RA Dickey as your most reliable starter and No. 1.

  144. Joe from Long Island April 6th, 2011 at 8:09 pm

I take it back, the Mets are only in the 3rd.

  145. Fran the original April 6th, 2011 at 8:11 pm

    Joe,

Guess the Phillies are paying the Mets back for last night.

  146. ron April 6th, 2011 at 8:12 pm

After three horrible seasons with the Mariners and a rocky 2010 start for the Blue Jays, Brandon Morrow’s career in Toronto began taking flight in the beginning of July.

    Why?

Morrow began to figure out how to “settle into himself” rather than just the game, as most pitchers do.

The meaning of that is, Brandon Morrow became less and less reliant on his fastball, and began learning how to utilize his off-speed pitches to setup his fireball.

    Hopefully hughes does the same.

  147. Joe from Long Island April 6th, 2011 at 8:12 pm

So, then, Phil-Nova-CC for the weekend, I guess.

  148. BoJo April 6th, 2011 at 8:12 pm

I guess now it all becomes clear what Boston was training for in the last two weeks of spring training.

  149. blake April 6th, 2011 at 8:12 pm

That was a nice piece of hitting there by Gonzalez I must say.

  150. Triple Short of a Cycle April 6th, 2011 at 8:13 pm

are they planning on skipping Garcia?

  151. Carlo April 6th, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Boston wins this game easily and they win tomorrow with Lester. They enter our series 2-4 and hopefully we enter 4-2.

  152. Jerkface April 6th, 2011 at 8:13 pm

are they planning on skipping Garcia?

    Yes

  153. blake April 6th, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Skipping Freddy seems like the right move….though having your first start against the Rangers after not pitching in nearly 3 weeks can’t be fun.

  154. blake April 6th, 2011 at 8:14 pm

So are they just playing 1 tomorrow?

  155. BoJo April 6th, 2011 at 8:15 pm

Apparently Joe Girardi saw the weather forecast before posting the line-up,and only put Molina in to tease Nick. He still hasn’t received his take on the bet…he can make or break the bet…

    Time is ticking.

That was a nasty change up or something to K Drew.

  158. MG April 6th, 2011 at 8:18 pm

Bojo, Girardi obviously also knew the game tonight was being rained out so he used both Soriano and Mo back to back last night knowing they wouldn’t be needed tonight.

His binder actually has no baseball stats, it all advanced, sophisticated storm tracking information…

    MG–good one!

The most interesting baseball story to me today is the Barry Bonds case. Down from 15 indictments to 4 weak ones. If I was on the jury, I would push for 25 years to life–for the prosecutors. What a waste of taxpayer dollars! I’d be outraged…and I think some of the jurors might feel the same.

I expect Barry to be cleared on all charges by early next week.

  169. Carlo April 6th, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Trisha – agreed, love it as well. But they are just so good. It would take an act of God to overtake them. I truly don’t even know why we are playing out the season.

  172. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 6th, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Carlo, it’s all about the gate. If these games weren’t money makers, they’d be given the rings right now. MLB is greedy. So we have to go through the pain of watching them continue to achieve.

    Life just isn’t fair sometimes.

The NESN broadcast shows the pitch count in the upper left. Underneath the base indicators and the score.

Hey, Mets showing some fight. Now it’s Blanton getting lit up.

And, Charlie is leaving Blanton in the game. I know the Phils’ pen had to pitch a lot of innings yesterday, when Hamels got knocked out early, but it’s 7-6 now, and could lose what should have been a laugher.

Now, bases loaded with one out in the 5th. Mets have batted around.
