    Here’s my questions.

If the Yankees take 2 out 3, or sweep the Sox
how how will the suicide rate go in Boston, and
as a corollary, How high will liquor prices go ?

Thank you in advance for your kind attention to these matters.

    :)

  2. MTU April 8th, 2011 at 12:38 pm

    edit: how high. sorry.

  3. Joe from Long Island April 8th, 2011 at 12:42 pm

MTU – please don’t take this the wrong way, as I know you’re mean well and are a good poster here….. but your last comment, above, with the referrence to suicide rates….. pushes the envelope a bit. Not that I mean to be blog cop, but some might have a problem with that, and neither of us wants to see another one of those discussions here….. Just a note, for something all of us have to monitor for ourselves.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

eboland11 Some first-time drinkers near dugout yell “HGH HGH!” at ARod. Swisher turns and yells “275 275″ back, as in ARod’s contract. Silence

    Erin – funny.

  6. Tom in N.J. April 8th, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Swish is a funny, funny guy.

He should have offered to buy them all ‘Papi’ sized shakes.

  7. MTU April 8th, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Sure Joe. My apologies. Meant purely as a joke.

Sorry if it went over the top. Didn’t meant it that way at all.

  8. Joe from Long Island April 8th, 2011 at 12:48 pm

    MTU – I know.

    It’s April Baseball people.

Regardless how this series turns out, neither team is in trouble.

It’s more humorous than anything watching the Red Sox panic after only 6 games.

    It’s a LONG season.

As I said in the other thread, it’s all about being able to handle the circus.

That’s the Sox challenge right now.

How well they handle will determine their long term fate.

It’s not easy having a target on your back all the time. Ask the Yankees.

  10. MTU April 8th, 2011 at 12:52 pm

    Joe-

My sense of humor sometimes leads me in the wrong direction and to strange places.

Sometimes a bit too irreverent for some.

Thank you for pointing it out.

MTU – we’ve all been there. We’ve all been guilty of foot-in-mouth disease. Myself included.

I hate Yankee-Red Sox series because the hype reaches moronic proportions.

Between cheerleaders in the media, trolls, and fans who get WAY too caught up in it, I find myself hoping they get thru 3 days without injuries and move on.

This is Game SEVEN of the regular season.

If I hear another baseball “expert” declare it a “big” or “important” game, I’m going to lose it.

    It’s not.

That said, just to cause more angst and panic to the “Nation”, it would be nice if the Yankees win this series.

Either way, I’ll be glad when it’s over.

  15. MTU April 8th, 2011 at 1:04 pm

    Enjoy the game folks.

I hope Phil impresses the heck out of everyone.

    Later.

    ;)

I hate hate hate Yankee-RS regular series, especially in April. Tedium squared.

    Beaten by one minutes…

  18. MTU April 8th, 2011 at 1:06 pm

    SJ-

That’s kind of how I feel too.

Way too much hype for this early in the season.

    Have a good day.

FYI: dennys Reyes signed an advance consent deal to be sent to The minors, so his time with Red Sox not necessarily over.

  20. DocTodd April 8th, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Big Papi is probably glad to see Reyes go…..less competition at the post game buffet

  21. DocTodd April 8th, 2011 at 1:13 pm

I hate RS-Yanks games on FOX and ESPN….especially in Fenway…the green dumpster..

  22. Erin April 8th, 2011 at 1:15 pm

Flash17YES Al Leiter is shot out of a cannon early on!!!! The first few innings will be fun!!

  23. I Like Inge April 8th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I love Red Sox – Yankee games. Total full out competition. It’s grind to watch but very intense games. Heck one of my favorite moments of the 2010 season was watching that 5th inning in an early May game in Boston when Beckett was wild and knocking down Cervelli, hitting Jeter and Robbie and the Yankees raked that inning. Blew them out the water. Nothing sweeter in the regular season than wins over the Red Sox.

  24. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 8th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Good for Reyes. I’d hate to have my last memory of him being that sad sweating person image.

    :(

I feel for anyone who is going to be on the lohud game thread during game time (my time today will be ultra short because I will have to leave for my doctor appointment about 2:40). But that notwithstanding, you KNOW it will be troll/bridgejumper/negativity city, take your pick depending upon which microscopic image is being picked apart at the given second!

Never an enjoyable experience, no matter what. Even if the Yanks are raking, E.R.’s stupidity always takes things down a notch.

    Watching the pregame.

As many have said, no matter how you are processing what it means, 0-6 is still a very sweet start!

  25. blake April 8th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

when is Al not a wild man….I love Al Leiter.

  26. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 8th, 2011 at 1:21 pm

    “the green dumpster..”

    perfect

  27. champ809 April 8th, 2011 at 1:22 pm

It can be as early in the season as it is….if the Yanks sweep the Sux this weekend they’re in trouble.
    Period.

They will not be the 1st team in the 100+ year history of the game to begin a season 0-9 and win the World Series. Ain’t happening…

    Not with their pitching.

The hype machine began in Dec. with the anal-ists and pro know it alls that fell all over themselves to declare the ’11 RedSux the greatest team ever assembled.
AGon and Crawford were great additions for them but they still had a gaping hole @ C and SS as well as 2 40yr old Of’ers as well as just as many if not more ?’s regarding their pitching staff.

I hate the Red Sox. Period.

So Francona sat Drew on Opening Day? There’s definitely a binder joke in there somewhere.

With all the lineup changes, these players must be swirling. It’s not about where you bat, just go up to the plate.

It’s about Francona not remaining calm. Their pitching got beat up in Texas, and he..changes the lineup. Okay, he did it for Crawford who was a whopping 0-6. Oh no’s!

Then they just started pressing, not scoring much after that. And their pitching calmed down, whatdya know!

  30. just_another_handle April 8th, 2011 at 1:28 pm

Feel free to correct my math if I am wrong but…

if the Sox play .610 baseball the rest of the way they wind up 96-66 and that would usually warrent a playoff trip, but…

if they play .500 ball in the next six months just ONE time, that gives them 6 more losses which would make their record 90-72 and thus make their postseason aspirations much less likely.

These figures are apporximate and should not be used for any gambling purposes.

What I am trying to say is that any six game losing streak AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR makes the math for a playoff spot that much more daunting.
