    Alex must be feeling better.

    Typical lineup. Hope they play.

  3. JM April 12th, 2011 at 3:37 pm

Hope they can get the game in….I am about 40 miles SE of the city and the sun is shining…But I hear up north the weather is much worse.

  4. Rich in NJ April 12th, 2011 at 3:38 pm

It might really benefit Jeter to see some LHP.

  5. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 3:39 pm

Hope Jeter breaks out. Sick of the people calling him done.

Our seats are under an awning but I’d just as soon stay home & watch it on TV & watch Brackman on the computer.

    @ J Alfred

I am never one to wear rose colored glasses. It is possible Jeter is on the decline. But he needs more time to prove he isn’t.

  10. tampayank April 12th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

rain again :( slow t.v. night there better be baseball

  11. ac1 April 12th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

agreed about jeter deserving time to prove he isn’t done, but it is really frustrating to see….
Especially with 4 other people in the lineup under .200.

A-Rod is going to be mashing all solo homeruns at this rate.

  12. Warning Track Power April 12th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

can wallace matthews get the story straight about the rain out please?

  13. tyanksfan36 April 12th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

    tampayank

dumb question but do you actually live in tampa?

  14. BoJo April 12th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

That article on DRob was also interesting from another perspective. Obviously the Yankees were one of the teams to buy the equipment and put it in place–nice to see progressive thinking there.

Also, it points to changes that could be soon coming in training pitchers about mechanics…with more emphasis on stride and spin. Combine those changes with the increased successful use of change-ups, and I would expect run production to go down over the next few years. Meaning both defense and small ball may make a return, since relying on power bats may be too risky.

  15. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Oh and someone else said a 24 year old Hughes has been regressing for awhile. Is it just me or does that sound lame?

  16. West Coast Yankee Fan April 12th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

It’s time to start playing up to our potential. Despite their good press, we need to beat teams like the Orioles and in general, start playing better. 5-4 is nothing to write home about considering we just played two teams who are a combined 5-15 and in last place due to poor starts.

With Texas coming in sizzling hot, today is a good time to start kicking butt!

  17. J. Alfred Prufrock April 12th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

He’ll eventually go down the other side of the mountain, it happens. When it happens, I’ll feel the pain the fan feels, & the wistfulness of recalling the good times, because that’s how real fans feel when father time wraps his knuckles on the door for the last time.

  18. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

I agree. The Yankees should do fine vs Baltimore. But Texas will be a major test. That lineup scares me a lot.

  21. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Jeter deserves to go out how he wants. If it means he is hitting .260-270 so be it. He has earned that right.

  22. BoJo April 12th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I’m really curious about the stride length of Betances and Brackman…it may seem like they will be handing the ball to the catcher….

let’s see how well they are/are not playing when summer begins.

  26. ac1 April 12th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

just a side note, they won 2/3 in both of their first series, and i think someone pointed out yesterday we havent won a series in april vs. boston in 10 years or something, so 1/3 was expected.

Many teams start around 500 for a while, and then the good teams break out, and so will the Yankees.

I haven’t followed the minors as closely, at least the A level, will track Triple A occasionally. I used to go to a couple but haven’t been in a few years….I usually would go when one of the big leaguers was on a rehab start….saw a few games w/ Matsui and Pettites the last several years

  50. BoJo April 12th, 2011 at 4:21 pm

    JAP–

The game changes because player performance changes. For example, in the late 60s, they lowered the mound because of the increasing dominance of pitchers. Baseballs are seemingly made livelier or deader across seasons to adjust the offense (suspicion, can’t prove it)…stadiums designs change and dimensions are altered…etc.

In this case, the scouting, selection, and training of players may change based on this data. And the results could lead to increased pitching dominance–resulting in other changes to balance it back.

That was my guess. Looking at the schedule for the rest of this month, Yankees have the 18th and 21st off. Meaning Martin can play a lot more games before Molina gets a 2nd start.
Maybe, maybe there is a chance Martin can play 158 games this season, j/k

  56. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

Martin did get a day off with that rain out as well.

  57. Warning Track Power April 12th, 2011 at 4:30 pm

Cano-The question was “a game off”.

  58. Sweet Swinging Cano April 12th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I know but he had an unintentional day off that helped. Can’t wait till Cervelli is back

  59. Nick in SF April 12th, 2011 at 4:32 pm

It’s because I took the over in AJ wins, not CC wins.

  60. jeffc_76 April 12th, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Regarding when Molina starts, I would think Friday (assuming no rain outs) since he either needs to catch Fri or Sat with the day game after a night game, and I think they’d rather stick him with the #5 starter than with CC. The other argument would be to stick him with CC since you need the run support more with Garcia. But I think it will be with Garcia, considering that was the plan last week in Garcia’s rained out start.

  61. BoJo April 12th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

I wonder if Girardi plays Molina at all. Let’s consider a few facts:

    1. Reports are that Joey has not yet received any cut of the take on the Stuckey99 v SF bet, and that his agent has advised him to hold out until the last possible minute before taking action to settle the bet.

    2. Martin may feel fresh–especially with rain delays, and there may be no need to rest him yet.

    3. Cervelli’s imminent arrival will provide plenty of opportunity to rest Martin thru the rest of the season. There is no worry about long-term burn-out.

    4. Why would Joey play Molina unless “What!? Is he TRYING to LOSE the game?!?!”

  62. Rich in NJ April 12th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

I’ll predict no starts for Molina.

ha didn’t realize TNT had a double header tonight, yeah that’s what I’ll probably watch but who knows how much effort will be put in being the last game or 2 before the playoffs start. really looking forward to the NBA Playoffs. 64. BoJo April 12th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

    I second Rich’s prediction.

  65. Erin April 12th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

  66. Nick in SF April 12th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

The Yankees are barely better than a .500 team with Martin starting, therefore a change at the catcher position will be mandated and the Gustavo Moline era of #winning Yankee baseball will begin.

Gotta love minor league promotions for their games. No question, this would be a great night of watching.

    “Bowie Baysox (Eastern League)
    Betty White Tribute, April 16
No unexpected late-career renaissance would be complete without a satirical tribute night at a Minor League ballpark, which is just what the Bowie Baysox are doing for Golden Girl-turned-venerated octogenarian comedic icon Betty White on Saturday. The evening will include Betty White video clips, trivia, look-a-like contests and between-inning games such as the Snickers Football Challenge, Rose Nylund’s St. Olaf Race and Florence Dusty’s muffin-eating contest (a reference to a recent “Saturday Night Live” skit that White starred in). The Baysox players are on board with the evening’s events, so much so that many of them took part in a cross-dressing, falsetto-adopting promotional video”.

Just looking ahead at the schedule, there are 5 day games after a night game between now and May 8. After that, or hopefully sooner, Cervelli should be ready and Gustavo can start collecting unemployment.
    Sat Apr 16 – 1:05pm
    Sun Apr 24 – 1:35pm
    Sat Apr 30 – 4:05pm
    Thurs May 5 – 1:05pm
    Sun May 8 – 3:05pm

Also, next Fri, Apr 22 begins a stretch of 17 days in a row without an off day. So, in order for Molina to not make ANY starts, the Yanks would have to get some really timely rain outs, or Girardi would need to be willing to start Martin many days in a row including day games after night games, or Cervelli would need to return sooner than expected (early May was the last I heard). So if I were to guess I’d say Molina makes 3 starts (or ~12 automatic outs if you prefer to count it that way!)

    Game unlikely.

Thanks for the update. With no game yesterday, I am looking forward to 9 innings tonight.

I know I should just skip by the posts, but why is ER or whatever name he/she decides to use allowed to post here? It brings absolutely nothing of substance to the conversation and only contributes to the pollution of threads.

The game threads are next to unreadable and have been for a while. It really brings down the quality of the blog and discussion. There are some extremely valuable posters here to don’t contribute as much because of people like ER and others who have polluted this place with utter nonsense.

    No problem, Track.
I’d say go with Knicks/Bulls, but with positions set in the East, some starters will be sitting on both sides.

It’s light rain. Hopefully they will just play through it.

A lot of people walking around with no umbrella. Def playable right now.

This is a series ripe for a sweep.

No excuses if the Yanks don’t put up some runs here. It’s not every series you get to face pitching this weak (with all due respect to tillman and arrieta – but they have a ways to go before they instill fear)

BD, O’s have good young pitching……………obviously I wouldn’t use the word fear, but I just take it one game at a time. I’m certainly not expecting or predicting a sweep.
