Report: Hughes going to Triple-A
The New York Post is reporting that Phil Hughes is going to Triple-A and will be replaced by Lance Pendleton.
The Yankees have two off days next week, so this seems to be a chance to skip a Hughes start and try to let him build arm strength in Scranton.
Joe Girardi is speaking in a few minutes. I’m sure he’ll address it.

The right move. Glad the team had the good sense to do it.
I feel bad for Hughes. Definitely the right move though.
Hughes – Good move by the Yankees. They need to rebuild his confidence. I just wish he would head to Scranton by way of an MRI machine just to make sure.
The slow starts by the Red Sox and Rays really contributed to this move imo. The Yankees have some leeway a couple of times through the rotation if necessary with the other teams legitimately competing for the rotation several games back.
Noesi to the rotation and Colon and Pendleton as long relief.
Giving Hughes 2-3 more starts would not have benefitted him at all. Anyone that couldnt see this would get worse is blind. Even he was at a loss.
Sorry – competing for the “division” not rotation.
Now Girardi says its just to the DL. Either way, its fine.
Scratch that:
eboland11 Girardi: Yankees putting Hughes on DL. He will stay with the team. So not going to Scranton it appears

is it the DL or AAA?

Yikes – good thing it is April – Banuelos, Betances and Hughes on the dl simultaneously. Hopefully none of them serious.

DL
Not the move that I mind, because Hughes needs to work it out. Minor League team results mean very little right now. Nor sure that Pendleton would have been my choice, though.
While the easiest thing to do is start Colon, i really want to see what we have in our prospects, and this is a good opportunity to start. Noesi could be something good.
It would be so great next year to have a rotation of CC/AJ/Hughes/Nova or Noesi/and Banuelos/Brackman, and for that to be successful.
Hughes DL. Not Scranton
RiverAveBlues Correction: Phil Hughes to the DL with a ?dead arm.”

right now?
ahhh so hughes is going to the DL and not AAA? Does the DL mean he stays with Rothschild?
Tom in NY –
Toynbee said to tell the Yankees that civilizations die from suicide, not by murder. So sending Phil to the minors is for his own mental health, and all will be well in time.
New Post: Hughes to the DL

Hughes to the DL—————————–>
DL rather than AAA seems like a face saving move for Hughes, but AAA might have benefited him more since he could face live hitters and gauge his progress. A little adversity isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Hopefully he’ll at least make a “rehab start” or two after “recovering” from his “injury” before they just cross their fingers and throw him back out there against major league hitters.
At least Hughes gets to continue working with Rothschild…I agree with him sticking around.
Not a good move
