A-Rod has “stiffness” in his oblique; questionable for Sunday night

When Eric Chavez went to third base in the top of the seventh, there was a murmur in the stands and the press box. What was wrong with Alex Rodriguez?

Turns out, A-Rod has “stiffness” in his lower back and oblique. He said he felt some a “little knot” before the game and “it got a little worse as the game went on.” He said he didn’t aggravate it making the diving stop on Elvis Andrus’s grounder in the third and actually felt it more on his swings. He finished the day 0-for-2 with a walk.

Asked how he feels about playing tomorrow, Rodriguez said he’d have to see how he felt when he woke up this morning. “I don’t have that crystal ball,” he said.

Joe Girardi, however, has always been cautious with injuries and since the Yankees have an off-day Monday, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sit Rodriguez tomorrow and give him two full days of rest.

“If he’s stiff tomorrow, he probably won’t play,” Girardi said.

Don’t risk it w/A-Rod. Chavez is no slouch, and playing time will keep him from getting rusty.

Not exactly smart that he played with this. I definitely wouldn’t play him tomorrow – they have to be careful that this doesn’t turn into a long-term thing. Really stinks.

you cant panic and overreact and bench people every time they go to the trainer with a twinge, or the players will never tell the trainers anything.

seems like they are being prudent, alex knows his body well enough to know when he can and cant play.

No point in pushing the envelope with Alex. The team has flexability that most teams would die for.

    Sit Alex tomorrow night.

Quickly glanced through the posts and unless anyone knows of a better nomination from the game thread, this is my nomination for jackass post of the day:

“you can tell Garcia just does not have the necessary “stuff” to do well. what the heck has the yankees starting staff come to?”

Seriously? After not even two innings?

Of course the poster ended up looking like an even bigger jackass based on Freddy’s outing.

I noticed Betsy made a point to take about the short rope it seemed some posters were willing to give Garcia.

    Good job Besty.

I doubt there is a major league ballplayer that doesn’t have some kind of twinge, ache or knot on a regular basis. I think YsGuy said it well, the athletes know their bodies and when they feel it’s warranted they let someone know.

I heard Hughes speak the other day about not getting an MRI. He was very emphatic that there was nothing wrong. These guys are adults.
