Here’s the deal on exchanging tickets from today

Posted by: Sam Borden - Posted in Misc on Apr 16, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

As I mentioned earlier, the Yankees are offering fans with paid tickets a chance to exchange them for another home game because of the lousy weather today. Here’s the announcement:

YANKEES REWARD TODAY’S FANS WITH FREE TICKET OFFER

Recognizing today’s inclement weather conditions, the New York Yankees announced that they are rewarding all fans with valid tickets for today’s game against the Texas Rangers with a free ticket offer.

Fans may redeem their valid April 16, 2011, tickets — regardless of whether they were used to attend today’s game — for a free Grandstand Level or Terrace Level ticket at Yankee Stadium for another game this season, subject to availability.

Alternatively, fans may choose to use today’s valid tickets as a coupon for 50 percent off the purchase price of a ticket in any other non-Suite or Club seating location to another game this season, subject to availability.

This free ticket and coupon offer does not include remaining premium games (the Old-Timers’ Day game and all home games played against the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets).

Please note that the Yankees can only accept tickets with valid bar codes for the April 16, 2011, game.

Tickets can be redeemed or presented as a coupon at Yankee Stadium Ticket Windows only starting Monday, April 18, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. (open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and until two (2) hours after the scheduled start time of any regularly scheduled home game).

    Two facts:

I went to last night’s game and it was colder than today and did not receive any offer for free tickets. (Oh what a little rain will do!)

I pay 50$ for a seat that I don’t like and the Yankees give the same seats away for free.

  2. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:04 pm

    VERY BOGUS!

reward the real fans who actually sat through todays game not the fair weather fans who stayed home.

“Not very often do you see Nathan get pulled in the middle of a 9th inning tie after 16 pitches.”
    ______

Dang! Sure coulda used that save on my fantasy team. Still, they are doin’ better than my REAL team. But then, who isn’t – ‘cept the Red Sox? As if the M’s aren’t struggling enough, they have been going up against red-hot, first-place teams more often than not so far this season.

    btw ~ Congrats to Freddy!
I always liked him when he was on the M’s (even forgave him from turning his back on Danny Wilson one time) and didn’t agree with trading him away. But, he just never seemed the same after his appearance in that “tied” All Star Game. Good to see that he may be finally coming back to form.

“There is no reason for the Mariners to hold on to King Felix. The Mariners suck and will not make the playoffs anytime soon…”
    ______

Sorry, little late commenting on this, saw it just prior to game time (for both the Yanks and the M’s) so figured it would be better to wait until after.

While I agree that it’s going to be awhile before the M’s are even contending (let alone making the playoffs) I think there are multiple reasons for the M’s to hang on to Felix…

1 – he’s 25 years old and just won his first CY pitching on an abysmal team. Barring injury things can only go up from here (his last two starts not withstanding)

2 – the M’s have him under their control through 2014 at a relatively cheap contract
(AAV of $15.6m) and he’s the perfect piece to build around.

3 – should be quite a bit of payroll flexibility next season – there are a TON of small one-year contracts this year and a couple of big chunks (Bradley and Wilson) coming off the books.

4 – Jack Z did pretty well with the draft last year and should only improve his lot, considering the higher picks he’ll be working with this June.

5 – there’s quite a bit of buzz around seeing how the 1-2 punch of “the King” and “the Prince” develops. It’s early but, so far, Michael Pineda’s looking like the real deal. I was lucky enough to be in attendance for his first start at The Safe (just as I was for Felix’s)…

if the M’s give up felix, they should just fold.

  5. Eroc April 16th, 2011 at 8:14 pm

“reward the real fans who actually sat through todays game not the fair weather fans who stayed home.’

Agree. Rule should be that fans can retrieve their other ticket at the game today. That would ensure that only the fans who were in the stadium today will get to take advantage of that deal.

  6. Yogi Mantle April 16th, 2011 at 8:17 pm

I can see the M’s dealing Felix if they get a king’s ransom in return. This is supposing that he doesn’t have a big down year.

His starts this year don’t look like his usual self. This could be in part due to normal struggles that any pitcher can go through, it can also be a result of trying too hard on a team that lets him down. Of course its way too early to begin thinking that the M’s would consider trading him. He is under team control for a good deal of time yet and even if they don’t compete they need someone to help draw people to the games other than the opposition’s fans.

If I could, I would establish “Shakedown Street” by The Grateful Dead as some type of control. For what, even I don’t know.

    RB,

I am surprised that Randolph is not managing again. I am also surprised that Mazzilli never got another managing job after the O’s.

    ——————–

I’m more surprised that Mazzilli hasn’t than Willie. It took a long time for Willie to get a job managing, there must have been a reason for that.

He tried instilling professionalism with the Mets when he got there. Then when that didn’t seem to take hold he started acting more like a player and buddy, joining in the dugout dancing, etc.

The 2006 season didn’t end well – sending an injured Cliff Johnson up to pinch hit, followed by Beltran’s called strike three to get bounced out of the playoffs, then the 2007 collapse combined with how he handled it publicly. I’m sure clubs realize that he was fighting a losing battle against management, but he also made some questionable decisions as manager.

  9. GreenBeret7 April 16th, 2011 at 8:20 pm

Rosy, the main reason the anks signed Garcia was to get entice Hernandez into forcing a trade to the Yankees.

im sorry, did i just land on the “spliffs and mallomars” blog?

  11. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:23 pm

pretty rough when a manager takes a team to within an out of the WS and all anybody remembers is one or two bad decisions. he must’ve made at least one good decision somewhere along the line that season…

  12. Betsy April 16th, 2011 at 8:24 pm

Very nice thing for the Yankees to do

  13. Fran the original April 16th, 2011 at 8:24 pm

    Hi Rosy,
Do you think there would be a mutiny in Seattle if Hernandez was traded?

    ***********
    RB,

Randolph did make some questionable decisions, but then every manager does. I thought overall he did a good job.

  14. rb from LI April 16th, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Of course, Randolph made good decisions along the way. I’m just suggesting what the perception could be. How many interviews did he have before getting a job in the first place?

  15. JM April 16th, 2011 at 8:27 pm

My friends who are bleacher creatures suffered through the cold and rain today….they should get some free tix.

  16. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:27 pm

i’ve heard that mazzilli wasnt cut out to manage. dont really know what the problem was but he’s completly out of baseball now isnt he? the mets even dumped him from thier broadcast crew (he wasnt very good)

  17. Betsy April 16th, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Randolph was given a raw deal by the Mets. It goes without saying that you don’t make someone fly across country just to fire him…….and doing it at like 3 am NY time. What a bush league, classless, moronic move by the Mets. Of course while he was manager, Tony Bernarzard (despise him) undercut Willie’s authority – and he also was thisclose to Manny Acta, I believe. Carlos Delgado didn’t like him, so he didn’t put in any kind of effort for half a season – coincidentally, he did fine when Manuel took over. I hate to see Willie in another uniform, esp. in the AL East, but he’s better off far away from the Mets

  18. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:28 pm

if they really feel that they have to reward people for not going to the stadium (very strange concept) at least they could give the people who DID go something extra.

SNY replaced Mazzilli with Bob Ojeda.

  21. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:31 pm

willie thought he didnt have to go down and learn how to manage in the minors, so i never felt sorry for him not getting a manager’s job. mattingly is the same. lots of people have gotten jobs managing who didnt go to the minors including both willie and donnie, but imo if that is your attitude and a team opts not to hire you b/c you have no experience managing, then you have no complaint.

The Yankees have been offering tickets in situations like these for years. I’ve been to several games courtesy of the Yankees due to inclement weather. I was among the “hardy souls” who attended the game.

I agree, it would have been nice to be rewarded for actually having been in attendance.

  25. tyanksfan36 April 16th, 2011 at 8:38 pm

    Fran and GB

I called his parents, they were thankful I called, I have taken care of this little boy since he was about 4 months old so I know his parents would want to know anytime he gets anything not normal. I gave him some Motrin so hopefully it goes down some.

  26. rb from LI April 16th, 2011 at 8:40 pm

    oops: “hearty” soul :-?

  27. CompassRosy April 16th, 2011 at 8:41 pm

    GB ~
Yeah, I’ve no doubt that was the reason ;)

    Fran ~
It wouldn’t be pretty, that’s for sure. But, it’s not like we haven’t been through it before (Randy, Junior to name a couple). I just hope the offense can muster up enough to get him some victories this year. He was so awesome and gracious last season, but it’s got to wear on him.

Be nice if the bats could get going a bit earlier in games…
The M’s have scored all of 19 runs in innings 1-6 and 30 in innings 7-9
Amazingly, they lead the league in walks (can’t remember the last time that happened) but bring up the rear for average w/RISP. Maybe after Wedge’s mini-tirade in the clubhouse today, they’ll come out swinging (and NOT missing) tomorrow…

  28. Fran the original April 16th, 2011 at 8:41 pm

    tyanks,

That was smart to call. Hope he feels better.

  29. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:43 pm

back in 1989 (i think) i sat through a game that was rain delayed 2 or 3 times and went on for hours. when the game finally ended, there were maybe 200 people in the big ballyard, the yankees rallied and won when ricky henderson scored. it was a great party among those of us who stayed and one of my best memories of the old ballyard. it was just the real real hardcores there rooting for a team that frankly sucked.

when charie hayes caught that foulout and the ‘great drought’ was over, i was in a bar and raised a slinet toast to those 199 or so hardy souls i shared that day with. those are my kind of people!

  30. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:44 pm

    Ys Guy,

Found this in a NY Times article:

White sounds angry, sad and candid when he portrays the former commissioner Fay Vincent as a meddler who interfered in league issues that White says were not in his purview.

“I don’t dislike Fay,” he said. “I have no feeling at all for Fay.”

Vincent said: “Bill once told me: ‘I have a terrible problem with authority. I’ve never been able to get along with anyone in authority.’ I think that explains a lot.”

When asked to assess Bud Selig since he became full-time commissioner in 1998, White responded with 10 seconds of silence. “Well,” he said, “we haven’t had any strikes.”

  34. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:49 pm

thanks fran, you saved me $25. he pretty much did the same thing when francessa asked him about today’s players…

  35. Fran the original April 16th, 2011 at 8:52 pm

    Glad I could help :)

  36. YsGuy April 16th, 2011 at 8:52 pm

btw, when i saw the ending of the game that lester pitched in cleveland (the one the indians won on the suicide squeeze, they showed a shot of the couple hundred people dressed in parkas and ski hats going crazy and i thought what a great time they must be having and how they will remember that game whenever the indians get up off the mat and become relevant again.

bad times separate the real fans from the frontrunners.

  37. CompassRosy April 16th, 2011 at 9:01 pm

    Thanks, Fran.

I was just looking at the schedule …
the Mariners and the Yankees don’t meet until Memorial Day weekend when the Yanks visit Seattle and they come again in mid-September. The M’s only visit the Bronx once, in late-July.

  38. Fran the original April 16th, 2011 at 9:04 pm

    Rosy,

Nice. You get to see the Yankees twice.

  39. tyanksfan36 April 16th, 2011 at 9:21 pm

So I took his temp again and it had gone up. I was holding him so I put him down, hopefully that helps. I hate when they get fevers.

  40. tyanksfan36 April 16th, 2011 at 9:27 pm

I’ll see them once (the May series) but for all three games, since I have the weekend plan. The series in September is during the week.

    tyanks,

  43. rb from LI April 16th, 2011 at 9:43 pm

ty, I hope the little guy is okay. I remember babysitting for my sister when my niece was about 18 mos. My sister & brother-in-law had a wedding and I couldn’t reach them. My niece cried for hours. No fever, but I just could not get her to calm down. I called my mom who was no help whatsoever (“it’s been years since I’ve had babies!”). I called a girlfriend who had young children. Thank goodness for her. Don’t think I would have gotten through the night without her.

  44. tyanksfan36 April 16th, 2011 at 9:56 pm

I am no good with fevers, at work we call and the parents pick them up, never babysat and had a kid get one. I am glad the Motrin worked, he passed out on the couch and I just put him in his bed once I let his parents know.

My mom was always a “fevers fight bad things, let them run their course” kind of mom, we burned up for hours but we hardly ever got sick, I had pefect attendance every year except when I got chicken pox. The last time I went to the doctors with something was probably 2 years ago when I got pinkeye. I haven’t had a fever since 12th grade, 5 years ago.

  45. tyanksfan36 April 16th, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Yeah, I was checking the scores, I wanted to see who pitched and I saw for fielding that the Diamondbacks had turned 5 DP’s. Anyone know the record in the NL for DP’s? We obviously know the record for the AL.

Believe they said the NL/MLB record is 7.
