TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., YES Network

WEATHER: There’s a chance of mid-game rain, but so far it’s a pretty nice night here at Yankee Stadium. Wind blowing from right to left.

UMPIRES: HP Todd Tichenor, 1B Gerry Davis, 2B Sam Holbrook, 3B Greg Gibson

NOT HITTING: Seven hits in the past two games is the Yankees lowest two-game total since September of 2000 when they had five hits on 9-17 and followed with one hit on 9-18. The last time the Yankees had three straight games of four-or-fewer hits was 1982, and those three games were on the road. Last time they did so at home was way back in 1970.

NEED A WIN TONIGHT: If the Yankees don’t win tonight’s game, they’ll assure themselves of their first series lost against an AL Central team since May of last year, a streak of 10 straight series without a loss (9-0-1)… The Yankees also have yet to lose a home series this year.

TWO IN A ROW: The Yankees have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.

SOMETHING TO WATCH FOR: A lot of pregame chatter after batting practice about the number of breaking balls the Yankees have seen lately. Kevin Long said 31 of the last 32 pitches Gavin Floyd threw last night were offspeed. Could be something teams are trying to do to fight the home runs the Yankees have been hitting.

UPDATE, 7:17 p.m.: Ozzie Guillen has already been ejected. Half of the press box was busy writing early stories — myself included — and didn’t even realize he was arguing until after he’d been tossed. He didn’t even stick around long enough to see his pitcher throw one pitch. Amazing. His first ejection of the year.

UPDATE, 7:25 p.m.: There’s Robinson Cano’s sixth home run of the season. It’s a two-out, three-run shot for a quick 3-0 Yankees lead.

UPDATE, 7:53 p.m.: Check it out, the top of my head is on TV!

Also, the Yankees have responded to the accidentally leaked season-ticket holder information. The Yankees are sending — or have sent — letters to season ticket holders who had information accidently passed along by a Yankees employee. They assure that no birth dates, social security numbers or credit card information was leaked. According to the letter:

“Immediately upon learning of the accidental attachment of the internal spreadsheet remedial measures were undertaken so as to assure that a similar incident could not happen again. The Yankees deeply regret this incident, and any inconvenience that it might cause.”

UPDATE, 8:15 p.m.: Five scoreless from Colon. That’s a low-risk signing that’s paying off huge through this first month.

Go Yanks. Score early and often.

  2. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Look at how bad most DHs are performing this season. People underrate the value of Montero as a DH and BUC.

Even if the Yanks keep Martin long term, Montero could be a major piece. And when Montero catches you can slip Alex into the DH spot.

  3. Bo knows April 27th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

The Yankees have to show that they can hit breaking balls. It’s not nuclear physics. We’ll see if Swisher and Teix screw themselves into the ground again.

  4. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:08 pm

    Go Yanks.

    LGY,

most DH’s in baseball kinda stink.

  5. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:09 pm

    120-130 games Martin catches.

    30-40 Montero catches.

    30-40 open DH days.

  6. Bronx Jeers April 27th, 2011 at 7:09 pm

A lot of pregame chatter after batting practice about the number of breaking balls the Yankees have seen lately.

    Nice play Martin.

  10. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Nice play Russ Martin….Colon looks great.

  11. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:13 pm

The Sox announcers are lauding that Lillibridge kid. He got lucky!

  12. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:13 pm

Sterling now commenting that Martin reminds him of Thurman Munson…everybody is hoping on that.

  13. Triple Short of a Cycle April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

    gardner would have had that

  14. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

    Gardner catches that

  15. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Would Gardner have caught that? I am listening to game and didn;t see it/

  16. Niblick April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

    Nice glove, Thames.

  17. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

    miss Gardner in left

  18. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Thx…I suspected as much based on how Sterling called it.

  19. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:15 pm

    not

  20. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:15 pm

    Bojo

Yes Gardner makes that catch easy

  21. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:15 pm

not 100% sure…but I feel confident Gardy gets to that. Its’ the give and take with not playing him.

  22. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:16 pm

    syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

That’s MISTER Gardner to you buddy!

  23. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:16 pm

wow….ring him up on the 96 mph heater

  24. Bronx Jeers April 27th, 2011 at 7:16 pm

    96 MPH

  25. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:17 pm

96 mph 4 seamer….then 92 sinker at the knees. Colon is throwing the crap out of the ball.

  26. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:17 pm

I think Colon stole some of Phil’s velocity.

  27. Tom in N.J. April 27th, 2011 at 7:17 pm

    Tolo domination?

  28. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

We usually beat the crap out of Buerhle. Here’s hoping that’s true for tonight as well.

  29. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Just another scrap heap signing in what might be one of the best off-seasons for any GM I can recall.

  30. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

lol….Ozzie got tossed….that pitch was right at the knees.

  31. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

    Ozzie got booted. Lol!

  32. Triple Short of a Cycle April 27th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

i wish Yes showed roll call like espn did a couple of weeks ago

  33. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:19 pm

lol what is Ozzie doing…why get so hyped over something random

  34. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:19 pm

I am actually disappointed that Gardner is not playing against Buerhle. I think he can hit him out if he faced him 4 times.

  35. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:20 pm

    Bojo,

hard to remember a group of scrap pile guys that have done what this group has early…..and it is early but all of them have been impressive…..save maybe Andrew

  36. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:20 pm

why is Grandy batting 9?? He did really well in the 2 spot

  37. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Ozzie must have had tickets to “Chicago – The Musical” tonight.

  38. Triple Short of a Cycle April 27th, 2011 at 7:22 pm

    why is swisher batting second?

  39. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:22 pm

    what you swinging at Swish.

  40. Jerkface April 27th, 2011 at 7:22 pm

How does Nick swing at that? He laid off all those better ones

  41. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Nice of Swisher to swing at ball 4.

  42. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:22 pm

    ____________
But remember that he also picked up Justin Maxwell–who is just killing AAA pitching with power. He may replace Jones if Andruw doesn’t deliver.

    MVP work by Csh.

  43. GoldGlove9486 April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Ruined the whole inning with one disgusting swing.

  44. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Buerle really has nothing….they should pound him.

  45. DocTodd April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

That ball was 3 feet out of the strike zone..What’s Hollywood Swisher doing?

  46. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

What’s that bandage on Tex’s arm?

  47. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Granderson or Martin should bat 2nd until Swish starts hitting. He Posada and Gardner are killing them.

  48. Bronx Jeers April 27th, 2011 at 7:23 pm

The atmospheric pressure is rising on the Bartometer. Clear skies ahead.

  49. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:24 pm

Yeah guys that fastball is coming in at breaking ball speed. Crush it!

  50. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:25 pm

shouldn’t maybe Swish and Tex be split up in the line up since they are slumping

  51. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:25 pm

There’s goes the no hitter. :P

  52. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:25 pm

    Alex with a Jeteresque single.

  53. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Ha, they need Lillibridge out there. Baseball is a crazy game that falls but last night’s rocket doesnt. oh well

  54. jonnycat April 27th, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I asked this this morning but didn’t get a response. Anyone know what happened to SJ44? Did he announce he was taking some time off or something?

  55. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    Cano is the man

  56. Carl April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    Yay

  57. Benny Blanco April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    nobody is catching that!

  58. Salliedogs7 April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    Cano don’t you know!!!

  59. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

    Not catching that one…..laser beam.

  60. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm

Love those line drive homers by Cano!

  61. DocTodd April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

    Nobody’s catching that! :)

  62. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

    There are your runs Bartolo!

  63. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

    Cano said…”catch this” WHOOO!!!!

  64. Tom in N.J. April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

    That was a laser….

  65. Jerkface April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Almost same type of hit as last night, just harder.

  66. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

That was an old school Johnny Rocket. Ca YES is really picking on that right field wall.

  67. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Jones making his case to play more.

  68. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Leiter is right….it’s amazing how he can keep pitches like that fair. Takes special wrists and a special swing.

  69. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Buerhle is definitely going to start throwing more curve balls since his fastball is garbage

  70. igotid88 April 27th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

    Ca-Yes

  71. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Jones making his case to play more.

    —–

He already plays against every LH.

  72. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

What is Jorge batting now? .130? His average might be lower than Gardner’s.

  73. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Now lets see if they can keep scoring. Can’t afford one of those games where we get 3 early and then nothing the rest of the way.

Have to always scramble late then for one or two more.

Win this one and back on track.

  74. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:28 pm

    Alex with a Jeteresque single

    ——

    Blake

Are you taking a little shot at Jeter? ;)

  76. GreenBeret7 April 27th, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Another home run. Too many of those. should only count as a run and a half

  77. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Dunn was doing absolutely nothing until he came to NY.

  78. Benny Blanco April 27th, 2011 at 7:31 pm

will farrell with the single to right.

  79. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:32 pm

Fantasy question. Do you trade Cano for Alex straight up?

  80. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:32 pm

    LGY,

no because Jeter has done that so many times that it’s not luck anymore….it’s part of his game :). I love seeing Jeter do that……I prefer thunderous hits from Alex though.

  81. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Colon has to hit the corner because the ump obviously isn’t going to give him anything off of it

  82. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Baltimore v Boston has Guthrie going against Beckett. It will be interesting to me to see if Beckett continues to pitch at a high level. He must have gotten an epi.

Guthrie might be just the guy to beat him though. Has pitched very well under Buck.

  83. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

    Come on Colon….

  84. Carl April 27th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

    Yankees can’t catch

  85. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

    What the heck

  86. Jerkface April 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Cano not having a good defensive year

  87. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Can we take that Gold Glove award back? LOL!

  88. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Cano has butterfingers this season on tough plays he routinely made last year.

  89. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Robbie’s D hasn’t been as sharp early this season.

  90. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Cano’s defense hasn’t been good so far this season. That is definitely goint to hurt them.

  91. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

Let’s see what a pro does in this situation…THis isn’t Colon’s first rodeo.

  92. Niblick April 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

That was a tough play. Robbie was lucky to get his glove on it.

    LGY: Certainly not “butterfingers”.

Colon’s gotta have a couple of strikeouts here.

  93. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

    Bent like Beckham

  94. Salliedogs7 April 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

    Big K.

  95. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm

Boy that’s a big time pitch right there….that’s what he needed.

  96. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

How does he get that ball to tail back over the plate like that?

  97. Salliedogs7 April 27th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

    2 big outs.

  98. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:37 pm

The 90 year old couldn’t get the run in. Let’s go Colon 1 more out….

  99. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:38 pm

wow okay he has a shot at getting out of this with a 0

  100. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:38 pm

“How does he get that ball to tail back over the plate like that?”

2 seam grip and finger pressure on the inside of the ball…..some of it is just his arm motion as well.

  101. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:38 pm

That is what an old pro does!

  102. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:38 pm

  105. Niblick April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I wish Colon could teach that to AJ.

  106. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Houdini act by Colon that D Rob would be proud of. He’s throwing gas

  107. Joe from Long Island April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

    That was major league pitching.

  108. UnKnown April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Excellent. Great Job. That was a mess. Really nothing hit hard and he battled out of it. Really nice.

  109. Tom in N.J. April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

    I sort love this guy…

  110. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Great job by Colon. Now the Yankees have to jump on Buerhle and get some more runs on the board.

  111. Niblick April 27th, 2011 at 7:39 pm

LGY: not butterfingers at all. You obviously don’t know what you’re looking at, if you’re actually watching the game on TV and not on Gameday.

  112. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:40 pm

He didn’t win 1 Cy Young and deserve a second because he was voted best body…this guy knows how to pitch. What a pick-up!

  113. DocTodd April 27th, 2011 at 7:40 pm

    Black Bart sets em down….

  114. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:40 pm

  115. Jerkface April 27th, 2011 at 7:41 pm

Robbie is a gold glover, can’t excuse every tough play. He has dropped alot of throws to 2nd and hasn’t played to the same excellent standard he set last year.

  116. nettles April 27th, 2011 at 7:41 pm

Colon showed the guts of a burglar to get out of a no-out, bases loaded jam there! Let’s enjoy it while it lasts!

  117. pat April 27th, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Robinson taught Colon how to do that.

  118. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Buehrle likes to work fast. The Yankees should step out after every pitch.

  119. Niblick April 27th, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Pretty soon we’ll start hearing the crap about how Robbie can’t hit with runners on.

Do you guys just love to hate on the Yankees?

Or are you red sox fans?

  120. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:44 pm

    Jetes!

  122. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:45 pm

looks like a solid base hit for Jeter

  123. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:45 pm

I love it how if you make a comment about someone’s play, you’re a hater. Anyone watching this season has noticed a slight dip in Robbie’s defense.

  124. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:45 pm

LGY: not butterfingers at all. You obviously don’t know what you’re looking at, if you’re actually watching the game on TV and not on Gameday.

    —–

How would I know it was a tough play if I was watching on gameday???

Cano is my favorite player, but he has been subpar defensively this season.

  125. The Other Phil April 27th, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Come on Swish! You’re on my fantasy team!!

  126. LGY April 27th, 2011 at 7:47 pm

I love it how if you make a comment about someone’s play, you’re a hater. Anyone watching this season has noticed a slight dip in Robbie’s defense

    —–

    It’s pure stupidity.

Unfortunately some people think being a fan means being a cheerleader.

  127. GreenBeret7 April 27th, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Swisher’s swing is a screwed up a a soup sandwich right now

  128. Laura - I Bleed Blue April 27th, 2011 at 7:48 pm

“Cano is my favorite player, but he has been subpar defensively this season.”

Stop hating, LGY! You are only allowed to say positive things about the Yankees (even if it’s not true). That Jorge Posada is just ripping the cover off of the ball. He’s a real MVP candidate. :P

  129. syd_cash April 27th, 2011 at 7:48 pm

i’m starting to feel sorry for Nick he looks sooo horrible at the plate, maybe a day off to right the confusion

  130. BoJo April 27th, 2011 at 7:48 pm

I miss Trisha and Betsy on games. Hope they are well.

  131. blake April 27th, 2011 at 7:49 pm

It’s legitimate to point out that Cano’s defense hasn’t been as good as last year thus far because it hasn’t…you can go through defensive funks just like you can at the plate. He’ll come out of it

  132. Yankee Trader April 27th, 2011 at 7:49 pm

Girardi should let Martin bat #2. Swish has been dreadful and I like Granderson better at the bottom of the order since it makes it longer. The lineup is going to struggle to put hits together and score runs not by a homerun since they have so many guys struggling at the bottom of the order.

How does this make sense? With Granderson 2nd, the lineup will be longer because Martin is at the bottom. Swish only bats 2nd vs lefties, who he is hitting .400 against

I am saying especially against lefties since Girardi will not bat Granderson 2nd against a lefty. The way that Swish looks right now they can’t have him at the top of the order. Especially since Tex hasn’t exactly been on fire right now.

I can see that you missed the memo. Posters are not allowed to notice any issues that the Yankees are currently having. Posada isn’t cooked. Jeter doesn’t have trouble hitting the ball out of the infield. Gardner isn’t an automatic out. Cano is playing stellar defense.

Blake, if you remember, you, CB and I had a good conversation during the game that Colon went 6 in spring training against the O’s and only allowed a couple of hits.-I’ve just been really impressed with Colon since his 1st spring training game-he’s pounding the strike zone with pitches that move and seems to really know how to read bats.

It seems like the bullpen is going to have 2 runs to work with if they want to win this game. The bats are over anxious and dead. Of course it’s a team that just lost 10 out of 11 that puts this team to sleep.

Dunn is 31 years old and has averaged about 40 HRs and 100 RBI over the past 8 years, it’s highly unlikely he’s not going to get it going at some point in time just like Jorge will get it going as well.

When the Mick was at the end he simply couldn’t hit high fastballs, it was obvious when you watched him and very sad. Jorge doesn’t have that problem, he can still catch up to fastballs, it’s just a slump and lack of pitch recognition and that will change-if it doesn’t happen by June then you have to think about changing something-until then, with them in 1st place, there is really nothing to do except wait.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  413. agree with August 11th, 2014 at 10:15 am

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
