Jackson vs. Yankees
TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., YES Network and MLB Network
WEATHER: For now it looks like things have cleared up enough to play, but it could be iffy all night. It rained off-and-on much of the afternoon.
UMPIRES: HP Gerry Davis, 1B Sam Holbrook, 2B Greg Gibson, 3B Todd Tichenor
HOME SWEET HOME: The Yankees have not lost a home series this season. They’ll need a win tonight to keep that streak alive.
AND NOW IT’S CC’S TURN: In the past four games, the Yankees starters (Garcia, Burnett, Nova, Colon) have each held their opponent to one earned run or less for a combined ERA of 0.95 through 28.1 innings. The Yankees had a stretch of four straight starters giving up one earned or less last year, and it involved an entirely different group of starters (Pettitte, Hughes, Vazquez, Sabathia).
HITTING A WALL (OR NOT HITTING AT ALL): The Yankees have been held to six or fewer hits in three straight games, matching their longest such streak since the start of the 1993 season. They’ve had a streak like this 16 times in that span.
UPDATE, 7:48 p.m.: Three scoreless from Sabathia. He got in a little trouble in the first and second innings, but he’s escaped every jam.
UPDATE, 8:05 p.m.: Four straight walks gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the third. Robinson Cano followed with a sac fly and now it’s 2-0. Pretty good at-bats leading to those walks, but still, Ozzie Guillen isn’t known to hide his displeasure and I cant imagine he’s very pleased.
UPDATE, 8:13 p.m.: Kevin Millwood’s night is finished in Charlotte: Two innings, seven hits, six earned. Yikes.
UPDATE, 8:39 p.m.: The Yankees already had a 2-0 lead when Brett Gardner broke up the no-hitter with a solo home run to right, this third of the year. Eduardo Nunez followed with a double and Curtis Granderson tripled, and now it’s 4-0 Yankees in the fifth.
UPDATE, 9:01 p.m.: Gardner led off this inning with a home run. Now he’s hitting with the bases loaded, and the Yankees still haven’t made an out.
UPDATE, 9:07 p.m.: A six-run sixth has given the Yankees an 8-0 lead. The Yankees batted around before making an out.
UPDATE, 9:39 p.m.: Two mistakes by Chavez at first base tonight.
UPDATE, 9:53 p.m.: Nick Swisher can finally sleep easy tonight. His first home run of the season has given the Yankees a 12-3 lead in the seventh.

Time for Sabathia to throw a gem and for the Yankee bats to light it up. Let’s go Yankees!
Go Yanks. Repeat last night.
the bottom 3 of the line up are auto outs.
CC set the pace 5 days ago for all strong starts that each starter has…hope he does the same tonight
How come Nunez isn’t leading off? I thought he was good…
How come Nunez isn’t leading off? I thought he was good…
–
Really?
No, not really… come on give me some credit.
Good broadcast team on mlbbetwork.
Yea sure hands are overrated alright….
See you in June, Nunez.
Not a good start.
1 out with man on 1b if Jeter is playing….
1 out with man on 1b if Jeter is playing….
–
We don’t know if he would have been able to range over to get that ball
Jeter doesn’t make that play everyone gets scolded for how hard it is hit.
some of it is on cc. both those balls were smoked.
The concept of sample size is completely lost on Kay.
Good play A-Rod.
Great play by Alex and great decision making as usual from him…
Smart play A-Rod.
Overly aggressive 3B coach.
Alex made that play because he wants Nunez to play everyday.
Hard hit is a fine excuse, when it’s between your legs it’s tougher…
April 28, 2011 at 7:13 pm Jeter doesn’t make that play everyone gets scolded for how hard it is hit.
-
Problem is that Jeter makes that play.
Good job CC.
Way to get out of jam CC.
Hard hit is a fine excuse, when it’s between your legs it’s tougher…
–
It didn’t go between his legs under it bounced hard off the dirt and up into his chest. Then fell down between his legs
According to Horrible Hawk, CC and Dunn are good friends.
Problem is that Nunez doesn’t play everyday…or almost any day.
Seriously, it’s one chance.
no harm….
costas and kaat are easy to listen to.
An error – big deal. It happens to everyone.
Problem is that Jeter makes that play.
–
You arguing that Jeter makes every play hit to him?
I’m the first one to say that Jeter is having a subpar season so far, but no way should Nunez be the everyday SS. He shouldn’t even play half the time. His job is to spell Jeter when Derek needs rest. That’s it.
Great job by CC getting out there…Alex gave him the opportunity and he took advantage.
This very season, Jeter got eaten up by a similar ball and I got scolded for it.
Jeter isn’t even playing and we gotta hate on the man. No need for Jeter comments at all today basically unless he comes in the game
Of course, Jeter’s was ruled a hit :p
“You arguing that Jeter makes every play hit to him?”
he makes less errors than just about every other SS….he has very sure hands on routine plays
I wish I could watch the MLB Network broadcast, but it’s blacked out because I’m in Chicago.
yanks going to tee off tonight.
he makes less errors than just about every other SS….he has very sure hands on routine plays
-
How many SS’s are making errors on routine plays? How many errors come on plays Jeter can not make at all? How many errors has Jeter been saved by Tex?
“he makes less errors than just about every other SS….he has very sure hands on routine plays”
Well, let’s be honest. Some of his throws to first of late have been adventures. Tex has saved him a few errors with his fielding.
I’m not killing Nunez for the record…..that wasn’t an easy play….it was a tough hop but he let it play him. He’ll probably make the rest tonight and maybe he’ll even get to a ball Derek wouldn’t and make LGY and JF’s night.
Sorry, Nick – you swung on that.
“Jeter isn’t even playing and we gotta hate on the man. No need for Jeter comments at all today basically unless he comes in the game”
I don’t see any hate.
How many errors is jeter saved by barely getting to a ball that other SS’s field cleanly and making a weak attempt at a stop or throw, and thus the attempt is graded a hit where for other SS’s it’d be an error?
Every 1b saves every SS of throwing errors on occasion.
jerkface – yes but what i am referring to is how he played the ball. if it was hit hard to his side and he had to “ole” it, that’s way more excusable. the ball was played between his legs without taking as much as a step after the ball was batted, back of the dirt so no dead hop… that’s just bad.
I don’t care, I don’t think any less of him for missing one play.
Speaking of veteran players, where’s Damon when you need him? Dude would have found plenty of PT here this season.
Cano is in swing mode.
Horrible Hawk has a man crush on Robbie.
303 obp?? Cano, take a walk some time.
Every 1b saves every SS of throwing errors on occasion.
–
The same amount? Or are some 1B better than others?
White Sox pitching is killing our bats
if it was hit hard to his side and he had to “ole” it, that’s way more excusable.
–
So you’d excuse Jeter for not getting infront of a ball but scold Nunez? K.
“Speaking of veteran players, where’s Damon when you need him? Dude would have found plenty of PT here this season.”
I think you and I (and Erica) agreed on Damon this winter.
“Speaking of veteran players, where’s Damon when you need him? Dude would have found plenty of PT here this season.”
He plays everyday in TB, doesn’t he? That’s what he wanted.
“The same amount? Or are some 1B better than others?”
most are good at picking throws in the dirt to be honest.
It’s not White Sox pitching that’s doing it; this team has way too many players in major slumps.
Damon leading the Free World in walkoff RBIs this season, as per Rangers broadcast today.
It’s amazing how over anxious everyone is in the lineup. Cano has to stop swinging at pitches out of the zone and Swisher swinging at ball 4. These guys swing at anything their bat can reach. Swish definitely needs a game off.
most are good at picking throws in the dirt to be honest.
–
Jeters errors have decreased drastically since Tex came on board. Perhaps he has gotten worse range wise and thus is not reaching balls that were more likely to become errors then.
Jeter doesn’t even come close to that ball.
Jeter is in the dugout waiting for Soriano to field that grounder.
# Jerkface April 28th, 2011 at 7:19 pm
Of course, Jeter’s was ruled a hit :p
—————————————-
And I rule your comment as a hit with an S in front !
Give it a rest Jerkface…..Do you argue about everything in the real world ??? If you do you’re a lonely guy
“I think you and I (and Erica) agreed on Damon this winter.”
He needs a better agent.
It’s not White Sox pitching that’s doing it; this team has way too many players in major slumps.
–
Team wide slumps happen. I can remember when the Yankees went to Colorado in 07 with very favorable matchups in a hitters park and came out with 5 runs across 3 games.
CC not sharp so far tonight.
Give it a rest Jerkface…..Do you argue about everything in the real world ??? If you do you’re a lonely guy
–
This argument doesn’t make sense, because if I am arguing in real life it means someone is engaging me in discussion.
“Jeters errors have decreased drastically since Tex came on board.”
he saves him a few….however considering that Giambi was the 1B before him how do we know that he didn’t cost him more than the average 1b would have. Basically you exchange a bad 1B for a good one then you’d expect errors to go down… Perhaps Jeter would’ve had less errors before Tex came if they had had an average defensive 1B

Giambi was very good at scoops though.
“Jeter doesn’t even come close to that ball.”
lol….please
Nunez let the ball play him, E-6….Rather routine play
There could be a problem with the ball tonight…
Giambi’s problem was throwing to 2B; not so much picking low or bad throws.
“Giambi was very good at scoops though.”
no he wasn’t….he was merely better at that than the rest of the position because he didn’t have to move
no he wasn’t….he was merely better at that than the rest of the position because he didn’t have to move
–
At the very least he was as good as the average 1st baseman at scoops.
CC struggling a little bit
Yankees can’t field!
Cano, Grandy, CC, Nunez, Cano, Cano, Cano
“At the very least he was as good as the average 1st baseman at scoops.”
how do we know…..is that what your eyes told you
Wow, what was that guy swinging at?
Martin at work, just a little further out.
“Martin at work, just a little further out.”
He’ll make a fine teacher for Montero!
nice comeback from CC
Sweet. Runs!
CC doing nice job of working out of trouble….hopefully he’ll start to settle in next inning.
how do we know…..is that what your eyes told you
–
Scoops are a tracked stat, but using any of my own visual based opinions won’t fly here because people like Pat M will simply dismiss them if they differ from their own. Better to use the cold hard logic of stats.
Anecdotally, I think Giambi was not a detriment scooping at 1st. He just had zero range and threw like a girl.
Need a few runs.
The White Sox would have been the perfect opponent had our offense not cooled down. They can’t score runs to save their lives. Real slump busters for the pitching staff.
JF,
anyway…Derek is sure handed as they come on routine plays and usually makes good throws as well, he gets a little too cute sometimes as most SS’s do and coasts one over there but it’s not a huge problem.
I said at the end of spring training that the Yanks were gonna have hitting problems.
If not for the HR’s, where would we be ? ( plus Colon and Garcia )
Unless Montero comes up and hits a ton, a hitter will be needed at mid-season. Or Chavez stays healthy and DH’s at some point. ( and continues to hit )
Love Po, but how could they count on him as DH after year he had ? ( it was just a contract thing IMO)
I said at the end of spring training that the Yanks were gonna have hitting problems.
–
Please do not disparage the great derek jeter
or the great Posada. Disgusting!
Jackson does have nasty stuff….
Giambi was a fair, at best, glove.
that’s seeing the ball well there by Chavez….he took some tough pitches there.
That’s almost ridiculous.
Jackson does have nasty stuff….
–
Cooper has really helped him, he has mostly been inconsistent. And look at that. How can you get out of a slump if stuff like that happens
BS
wowzers….why are the ChiSox so up to place us
What kind of throw was that to second?

=========================================
One of the all time great Yanks ! 1st. ballot HOF’er !
Nah, you do that just fine, even when he’s not in the game ! Take a nap.
Without the long ball, they can not score. Hopefully they prove me wrong tonite. So far, not good. 2 quicks out here. Maybe some momentum.
Face…..The Giambino was good at digging them out
Why is the long ball viewed as a bad thing? I would argue that their HR makes the offense better and more versatile.
Matin again, squared up on a 96 mph FB down and away. A total professional.
Why is the long ball viewed as a bad thing? I would argue that their HR makes the offense better and more versatile.
–
Hitting the ball hard is not playing the game the right way.
Look at the troika we are sending to the plate this inning!!!
He just had zero range and threw like a girl.
=============================
Now that’s misogynistic.
I don’t think its a bad thing, but would like to see them put an inning together without the long ball.
jorge is done…
jorge is done…
–
Give him until 2 years from now before we decide that.
I can’t even remember the last time Posada got a hit. Wait, I think it was a HR in BAL, right?
And Gardy continues to fake bunt. Hey, they know u can’t really bunt!
It would suck if Posada got old just one year after having to watch Jeter do it.
2 years from now jorge will be managing the mets
that is about the only way Gardner is getting on base these days
“I don’t think its a bad thing, but would like to see them put an inning together without the long ball”
You really don’t think that’s what they are trying to do the vast majority of the time?
Let’s see if Nunez can hit the ball out of the infield.
It would suck if Posada got old just one year after having to watch Jeter do it.
–
And while both are on the same team in prominent roles! Jorge is going to the Hall of Fame.
i’ll take it
Gardy should steal 3B.
now gardner doesnt have to worry about stealing
the longer jorge hangs around the more he hurts his hof chances
Take 3rd. Haha
The home run has a weird stigma because there is like no defense against it, its a rare event (generally) and it clears the bases.
Steal 3rd
Jerkface – we discussed this topic a lot earlier in the week. Whether we agree or not is not my concern, but I want to ask you a question.
When you watch this offense, do you enjoy it? Do you feel like its a pleasure to watch? I ask because to me, its tough to sit and wait for home runs all game long.
Rain drops keep falling on the Yankees’ heads!
jenny finch throws like a girl
i like that suggestion from kaat.
play only division games in april to avoid scheduling issues with weather, since they come back 3 times.
Wow, how do you walk Gardy and Nunez? That’s some bad pitching.
“jenny finch throws like a girl”
And in the process, she’s raising the bar for girls everywhere.
Not bad for the bottom of the order.
Nunie works a walk. Where’s ID?
Double play again
It has to happen
When you watch this offense, do you enjoy it? Do you feel like its a pleasure to watch? I ask because to me, its tough to sit and wait for home runs all game long.
–
Right now? No. Because their line drives are getting caught and some guys are slumping. Difference is I think the Yankees will still lead the league in runs this year.
Come on, Grandy, we want a sharp single!
Kay loves traded-for matchups.
Rich…yes, I do, but I still would like to see it happen. Wouldn’t you? This is a great chance to do it.
this is a pitcher the yankees should be driving up the pitch count against. essentially dont swing at anything until you have to…
double steal!!!! I like it
Heads up Gardner.
rr212
It will.
If Granderson gets on, that’s some insane speed on the bases
Love the speed out there.
make him throw 2 strikes.
I hope granderson makes a nice out here, just get 1 run on the out. No HRs please
# LGY April 28th, 2011 at 7:53 pm
It would suck if Posada got old just one year after having to watch Jeter do it.
=============================
He only hit.248 last yr. after hitting .285 the yr. before.
Nothing against him at all, just father time, I’m afraid.
I hope granderson makes a nice out here, just get 1 run on the out. No HRs please
————–
God no, they wouldn’t want to get a hit this game
The long ball is a beautiful thing. It’s the overswinging to achieve the long ball that is the pits. Witness the A Rod swings the last inning as opposed to Martin. A Rod was just unreal at the plate at the beginning of the season, look at him now.
this is where girardi wants grandy…in the leadoff spot
Now I want a walk to see the triple steal.
Nothing against him at all, just father time, I’m afraid.
–
Yankee hater. Father time doesn’t touch Yankee greats.
If I were Ozzie, I’d be tempted to put Grandy on and pitch to Swisher.
Jeter can at least leg out the infield singles.
Not gonna happen with posada.
Swisher with the bases loaded doesn’t feel great. Time to break out.
Good eye.
unfortunately the only way he makes a change is if someone gets hurt
Girardi needs to calm down Swish and remind him he doesn’t need a homer here, just a nice hit. He is trying way too hard to get his first homerun.
Great ab there. Jackson is notorious for gettin wild. Maybe swish breaks out here?!?!? C’mon SWISH!
c’mon Nick…you can at least walk be patient out there
“A Rod was just unreal at the plate at the beginning of the season, look at him now.”
That’s what happens when you notice that no one else in the lineup is doing anything. You try to do it all yourself.
Kaat just played ‘due for a home run’ card.
# mick April 28th, 2011 at 7:56 pm
jenny finch throws like a girl
==================================
A might fine one at that !
make him throw 2 strikes.
he can’t do it.
just keep walking.
worst that could happen…home to 1st dp….will take anything else
Again, he swings at ball 4.
Shouldn’t have swung at that one
ball 4
unreal that he couldnt hold the bat on his shoulder.
that is just unacceptable.

Kettle- Pot !
Did Jeter refuse you an autograph or what ?
whoo hoo there you go
hallejullah!
The only reason Swisher didn’t swing at that was because it almost hit him.
Glad he walked there because that absurd 3-1 swing really aggravated me.
Plate discipline never sleeps, it only naps now and then.
Who’s down for a walk-a-thon?!?!
now the Yanks need to get a hit….it would be ridiculous to waste such a golden opportunity
Cano has to be patient here.
Kettle- Pot !

Yes thats the point. You deride others for talking about Yankee mortality then launch into your own post re: the offense/posada. We’re all (most of us) yankee fans talking about the team.
man i thought he had that one
You can only hit it hard…
Homer haters happy?
Cano should have tried to hit that for a HR instead of a nice line drive.
damn thought that was going to be out of the park for Robbie
Damn, that was CLOSE!
Well shoot
that was a cross between a double and a hr but will take the sac fly
Michael Kay just gave a shoutout to my area code
hey so I missed the memo on Tex. Is he okay??
Al may go deep here. Feel good about it
I hate those check swing fouls.
I don’t think Robbie got the real good wood on that one or it would have been in the seats.
I prefer a single or a double or a triple…
I didn’t know (per Costas) there there is an actual MLB rule that prohibits managers from posting to social media sites 30 minutes before and after games.
Ozzie is in trouble.
Costas is cracking me up
Homeruns are good. All that easy jogging around the bases means the players are less prone to injury
why has alex suddenly stopped hitting?
all things considered that’s kinda lame that the Yanks didnt get any hits
Homeruns are good. All that easy jogging around the bases means the players are less prone to injury

same thing jorge is thinking
I hope this isn’t viewed as Jeter-hate, but there is no way I would ever go to that website.
A-Rod stop sucking thanks

Did not knock Po, just gave an opinion as to this year after last.
You, on the other hand, knocked Jeter at the beginning of this blog and he’s not even in the game !
Your “expert” opinion is no more valuable than anyone’s. Got it ?
why has alex suddenly stopped hitting?
–
His balls are getting fielded. Its luck. He has hit the ball hard a few times with nothing to show for it.
Jackson and the pitching coach had someone of a heated exchange during the change of innings. My guess is that the pitching coach told Jackson to stop sucking.
Did not knock Po, just gave an opinion as to this year after last.

Jeter is much worse this year than last year which was worse than the year before, father time is catching up to him.
This has been the basis for everything I’ve posted re: Jeter since 09. So whats your point? You’re allowed to do it but I’m not because you love Derek Jeter and want to marry him?
CC v. Dunn is like a DE v. an OT.
CC had Dunn over for dinner. Dunn was impressed with CC’s $23M house. Shocking news, I know. LOL!
Yeah Mick, ozzie knows about lohud but when he signed on, a special group of 3 posters, who all share the same views on every issue, told him he knew nothing about baseball so he left.

So, it’s irrational to give opinions and make predictions ? You really should stop being a “know it all.”
Bottom of the lineup annoying me with these swings at balls that aren’t strikes.
still no hits this is ridiculous
Bad luck on BABIP.
Yankees can’t catch a break offensively.
Wow Po. Wow.
cant think of 3 that agree on everything unless it’s gb, sj and pat m.
These guys have to stop swinging at anything in sight. The approach against them right now is get to 2 strikes and then throw it in the dirt. Hopefully it passes quickly but it’s hard to watch.

Don’t you have a fun name for them
Dear Yankee hitters,
I know this might be much to ask, but can you please refrain from swinging at ball 4? A rule of thumb is if the ball is extremely close to the ground, chances are it’s not a strike. Please confine your swings to balls that are up and out over the plate.
Thanks.

gardy hits a yankee stadium hr
Posada! I mean, Gardner!
HR Totals: Gardner: 3 Jeter & Swisher: 0
Gardner line drive bomb.
Yes! Another home run. Everyones favorite!
Maybe Gardner has been going for 40?
SLG by the SS!
nunez pipps one
Yes! Another home run. Everyones favorite!
-
That would be a double/triple in other stadiums! Can’t help where you play
Bottom of the lineup
Nunez has 1 less XBH than Jeter in 80 less PA
Now that fool decides to mis-play a ball? UGH! Ill take the double now thoughh just very ironic.
what!!! Gardner hits a HR
Question: Have we seen Jeter hit a ball that hard all season?
Those last 2 at bats were awesome
40 is a magic #
I love this lineup!
I love triples.
Jail Break!
Grandy man can!!!

So, it’s irrational to give opinions and make predictions ? You really should stop being a “know it all.”
–
What? How did you get that from my point? Its not irrational, what? How? I am saying you can’t yell at people for discussing Jeter then you yourself do the same thing to Posada. It makes no sense.
===================================
Last post on this for me. I did not knock Po ! I’ve always had the highest regard for him. Just gave an opinion and prediction that he wouldn’t be the DH needed by Yanks this yr. and I did so in the off season when it was said that he would be the DH. As I said, it was all about his last yr. of contract. IMO. Fair enough ?
Another prediction : He won’t quite make it to the HOF. Wish he would though !!!
Those last 3 at bats were awesome
Gardy is looking to join the 40 home run 40 caught stealing club. Its very prestigious.
This is what I’m talking about. Lacing bullets, merry go round baseball.
grandy our new leadoff guy?
I love triples.
————-
Almost as good as homeruns.
guess Jackson is done….Granderson lighting it up
jerkface – we were talking about hard hit balls that you dont have much time to react to, no? something that is on you one hop in a step or two at best.
Gardner jump-started the offense! What a little spark plug!
I really love this lineup!
Yay!@!!! Finally Swish gets a hit and an RBI
I think everyone can be pleased with the offense this inning.
with nobody watching swish gets a hit and meaningless rbi
This is what we’ve all been waiting for.
Mick – I won’t name names. Can’t do it. Too much at stake.
erkface – we were talking about hard hit balls that you dont have much time to react to, no? something that is on you one hop in a step or two at best.

Some would say Nunez did a good job to keep that scorcher on the infield, would save a run if a guy was at 2nd.

=============
you are joking, right?
Yankees hit for the cycle in four consecutive batters.
“I think everyone can be pleased with the offense this inning.”
Only if they continue it against whatever bum Ozzie brings out of the pen.
Nunez has the same amount of extra base hits against RHP as Jeter does.
Interesting point re: Gardner that Ben Shpigel pointed out and I just verified on mlb.tv, Gardner finished with 1 hand instead of 2 on his HR, maybe trying to go back to what worked last year?
mick April 28th, 2011 at 8:42 pm
with nobody watching swish gets a hit and meaningless rbi
____________
If Soriano gets in the game, it may not prove to be meaningless.
jf – it was hit right at him and he didn’t move, the ball bounced off his glove between his legs and hit his chest. lets not get fuzzy about the details here.
Why couldn’t Lillibridge have played terrible outfield the other night…..nice AB’s this inning.
“Yankees hit for the cycle in four consecutive batters.”
That’s fantastic. I hadn’t even realized that. I hope Jayson Stark takes note.
we are up by 4 runs that was not meaningless from Swish
Yes – I’m joking. I didn’t even have anyone specific in mind. I’ll throw a group of 3 together if you want me to. I’m not familiar with enough people here to even know who thinks about what how.
yankees are awake!
Cano is getting locked in….he just hits laser after laser
I love Cano’s hitting approach. 0-2, fastball, WHACK. He makes it look absurdly easy.
Did i just see Garnder swing with one hand? Has he given up on the twohanded?
Face – I have been clamoring for him to go back to last years swing since week 2 of the year. The new swing is a mess.
i kinda thought when the sox messed up the baserunning in the first inning that they blew thier best chance to win the game. not only should lillibridge not go home on that grounder to alex, but the guy staying on 2b while they applied the tag at the plate really cost them. of course that thought never crossed michael kay’s mind…
cano is not as disciplined as last year, must be trying a new approach
classic AROD HR spot
Why not go back to what worked last year if you’re Gardner…..
I think they’re trying not to hit HR
Alex thought that was gone.
an eruption out of nowhere
A-Rod bomb.
That’s the same play Lillibridge caught the other night…..now we know Quentin wouldn’t have caught it!
lillibridge makes that catch
welp the white sox defense looks as equally bad in this inning as they have looked good in rest of series
close enough, he loves those low pressure high volume spots
Still no outs.
It’s getting close to being Soriano-proof.
j/k
I love the run support for CC….they are trying to make up for those no decisions.
Is it me or is Quentin not the world’s best RF?
I love all these balls staying in the park. This is good.
I’m pleased
Quentin is a terrible outfielder.
someone said they wanted hits?
good hitters say home runs are just accidental doubles
Martin is just on everything….even when he makes outs he’s having really good swings. I’d like to see him hit 2nd some against lefties.
love that martin signing!
nice little base-clearing double would be nice here
Just got back from a dog walk, we still being no-hit?
did betsy and hughes elope?
If Jorge kills this Rally, I’m going to talk about him all season!
An rbi single! Are u kidding me! I’m ecstatic! If Posada can walk I’ll be beside myself with joy.
jf – it was hit right at him and he didn’t move, the ball bounced off his glove between his legs and hit his chest. lets not get fuzzy about the details here.
–
I’ve just re-watched it, hard smash that bounced right up into his chest and then trickled down to his feet. It launched from 3 feet infront of him into his chest.
Q.
Which Yankee has the most home runs in the last 6 games?
Hint.
Unless you follow the Yankees every day, you’d never guess it…
Is it me or is Quentin not the world’s best RF?
————–
He’s atrocious in the OF
probably Gardner
i smell dp
An rbi single! Are u kidding me! I’m ecstatic! If Posada can walk I’ll be beside myself with joy.
———–
Posada is walking a decent amount. He needs hits.
Nevermind. There you go Carlo
Good walk Jorge!
Lets put up a 20 spot .
Nice job, Jorge!
Grand Slam Gardner?
We should have swept these losers.
look at Brett Gardner it all started with him maybe two hits in one inning
why can’t Costas and Kaat do playoff games…..
still no outs!
Hmm I don’t know about this.
I don’t know that I buy that there is something wrong with this guy. This may just be a ploy.
why can’t Costas and Kaat do playoff games…..
–
Because FOX and TBS wouldn’t know good broadcasting if it punched them in the ear.
May have to root the orioles in now. Have a good night everyone. Grab 2 of 3 from toronto and make this a 4-3 homestand.

I like Kay
And Kenny and Leiter and Cone
“I like Kay
And Kenny and Leiter and Cone”
I like the last 3
CC’s been sitting for awhile now.
kay was okay as the color man on radio but he’s not lead announcer. cone is great, they need alot more of him. kenny is good. oneill and flaherty are as bad as any i’ve heard. lieter is barely passable but getting better over time.
Kay blows.
Not a strike
2 hr inning for gardy?
no
Should have swung with 1 hand
I think Kay forgets he’s doing the Yankee game and goes into radio show mode too often….
23 runs in CC’s last 2 starts
Kays opinions are usually stupid, but he has a good voice and is very good at probing the color guys to get them to open up about a subject/give their advice
but this is the yankees. the best announcers in the country should be doing yankees games. the yankees are all about being the best, getting the best talent. why so we have a collection of mediocre to terrible announcers?
but this is the yankees. the best announcers in the country should be doing yankees games. the yankees are all about being the best, getting the best talent. why so we have a collection of mediocre to terrible announcers?
–
they had their chance to get Scully. They f’d up.
waldman is inexcusably bad. and she encourages the worst in sterling, so she drags the broadcast down even further.
“the best announcers in the country should be doing yankees games”
who?
Every time I see this guy pitch, my head is suddenly filled with Death of a Salesman quotes…
“Wily Ohman never made a lot of money,
his name was never in the paper,
but, uh… You know, like, attention could be paid.”
If the audience’s sanity matters at all, Sterling only has a few years left. So it would be great to reunite him with Kay before he hangs it up.
I think Pena faked that injury.
id like to have mario impemba from the tigers do the radio with maybe jack curry as color man.
The Yankees could offer Costas more money than his other 12 jobs pay him
Cone, Singleton, and Leiter are fine as color man.
I’ll take Kay’s annoyance but with his voice any day over Costas’ voice. It just doesn’t fit the Yankees.
im sure pena faked the injury. but the yankees do that once or twice a season too, and there is no way to prove a guy is faking it, so theres nothing you can do.
“I’ll take Kay’s annoyance but with his voice any day over Costas’ voice. It just doesn’t fit the Yankees.”
how so.

The ball was hit hard and bounced up to about his belt or a little higher. It’s not easy to field a ball hit like that. It’s not like it was an easy play so lets not be so hard on Nunez.
Will Ohman:

CC’s velocity has been really good the last 2 starts….he’s rounding into form nicely.
Yanks struck out on the announcer free agent market as well.
Kay is like Ponson.
costas as lead tv guy with kaat switching off with cone as color guys would be a great tv crew.
blake… you were right!!
Kaat? If he isn’t talking about pitching, he isn’t making sense.
SportsGeek,
new power hitter
Costas is too much of a baseball purist to announce an AL team 140+ games. Some of his opinions are just as insufferable as Kays. Though he does have a good voice.
I love that commerical with Baldwin and Jim from the office.
as much as i like kenny singleton, the orioles really should pony up and make him thier tv guy. he is still totally connected to thier organization and lives in maryland.
“it’s like being a huge fan of winning, which we do relentlessly”
“go ahead Red Sox fan, celebrate in April, we’ll dance in October”
great stuff.
i cannot enjoy the office now knowing that jim is a sox fan.
just like i stopped watching emeril.
If you want to hear bad announcing, check out the Rangers new broadcaster. He plays up the whole texas thing despite being from the north and seems like he doesn’t understand baseball, its hilarious.
so switch costas and kenny off in the lead chair, im sure costas doesnt want to do that many games, and kaat and coney doing color. everybody gets time off and there are several good combinations.
Swish is back baby….two hits tonight!!!!
Swisher trying to get that bat to come alive.
I care about competence, not a connection to the organization.
Sterling once worked for the Orioles and Braves, and he’s not even competent.
Good to see swish have a nite
“robinson cano is rod carew with more power”
might be the nicest compliment that kaat ever gave
They need a better hitter as a color guy. Flaherty doesn’t cut it and Kenny, who I love, is fading in terms of offering cogent critical analysis of the game. He is just kind of mellowed out, fitting more as a PBP voice than a color guy.
Swisher trying to get that bat to come alive.
–
He was already hitting well righty
Flaherty is the worst of the worst.
Gardner on pace for 20+ homers.
I thought Torre was the first one to compare Cano to Carew.
flaherty is kinda like valentine, both of them have a ton of baseball knowlege but terrible broadcast voices. valentime is too squeaky and flaherty has no pulse.

OMG that is hillarious
Flaherty is a homer.
i never heard torre do games, i wonder how he was. of course i dont see him working for the yankees ever again.
2-2 split.
Meanwhile, there is a potentially semi-hot woman sitting behind that old guy with the phone and they don’t even get a close up to see if it’s semi- or more or less.
A-rod has been going the other way or up the middle the past week, but can’t buy a hit up the middle.
i wasnt on earlier when kay and lieter were talking about flaherty’s ability to steal bases. he never struck me as a guy who could steal bases, so i looked it up, he had 10 career steals (posada has 20)!
They need a better hitter as a color guy. Flaherty doesn’t cut it and Kenny, who I love, is fading in terms of offering cogent critical analysis of the game. He is just kind of mellowed out, fitting more as a PBP voice than a color guy.

Kenny and Bob Lorenz do PBP, O’neill, Kaat, Leiter and Cone do color.
Garner only 3 homers off team lead–obviously gunning for clean-up slot.
Meanwhile, there is a potentially semi-hot woman sitting behind that old guy with the phone and they don’t even get a close up to see if it’s semi- or more or less.
—
I was thinking the same damn thing. I guess the director or camera man thought the same too because they changed the angle of the shot and got the hot women
I liked the one on the right
met’s last chance to keep the streak alive, losing 4-3.
O Neil is even worse, he is more interested in whats for dinner than whats on the field. It takes a lot of wrangling for him to comment on the game, even though I find his personality fun outside of the announcing aspect.
I think that was Joe Posnansky. Great baseball writer.
Brett Gardner: “Slap singles hitters drive Buicks, power hitters drive Caddys–I want to drive a Ferrarri–what does that make me?!?–That’s right–a slap hitting, base stealing, power hitting, gold glove fielding, maniac stealing superstar.”
O Neil is even worse, he is more interested in whats for dinner than whats on the field. It takes a lot of wrangling for him to comment on the game, even though I find his personality fun outside of the announcing aspect.

That’s why I like O’neill, he’s funny. Who cares what insight he has? My spreadsheets have all the insight I need
Great thing about the early going is CC’s revitalized strike out stuff. He is King more guys than last 2 years.
That’s why I like O’neill, he’s funny. Who cares what insight he has? My spreadsheets have all the insight I need

My spreadsheet can not reciprocate the sweet nothings I whisper to it.
God damn Nunez.
oniell is inexcusable. not only does he have nothing interesting to say, and not only does he drage kay down with him chatting about food and which millionaire is cheaper, but he is completly unprepared and obviously doesnt watch any baseball when he’s not announcing.
Nunez, yer killing me. Though I disagree with Kay and Leiter, Nunez is not here just to play defense. If they only cared about defense, Pena would be up.
Seriously, its the ball.
Even though so far as a Yankees I love you…Chavez you can stay at 3B, from now on. Thank You
Hilarious
They really need to work with Nunez on throwing the ball.
Ouch, not pretty. Girardi should take CC out. With a 9 run lead there is no reason for him to still be out there.
If I can’t stand flaherty but I don’t hate Kay, does that make me the dbag?
My reason for not hating Kay is pretty simple actually. He’s a big Yankee fan. He legitimately cares about the team. I like that. I also respected the fact that he basically said Torre had to go, on the field after the ALDS elimintation loss to Detroit. I respected his blunt honesty.
This will keep CC’s PC down, so there’s that.
Bring in Eiland to help Nunez like he did with Swisher.
That is about the only thing Eiland is capable of.
Nunez it’s all your fault.
That inning was like a spring training game
Nunez has what football people call closing speed.
Nunez is just rusty from not playing at all

If the purpose of the guy resting Jeter/Cano is to only provide solid defense, it obviously should have been Pena. Nunez is never going to be a gold glove at short. But he could end up as a regular short stop due to his offense/power/speed
Of course, Pouncey doesn’t fall to the NYG.
thanks pat, i never heard joe do a game. he was a big favorite of mine as a kid, the cardinals of torre, gibson, mccarver and co. were the first nl team i rooted for.
CC not charged with any ER so all is good.
I love teachable moments.
Now, that’s the Gardner who has been MIA.
That was Gardner’s best swing in a while.
Niemann has no-hit the Twinkies through 6….Did I just jinx him?
Nunez can fly.
Jeter was just telling Nunez how to get infield singles.
Gardner sneaking up on league lead in doubles….
nice Gardner….if he’s back then it’s a big boost to the offense
Nunez will be fine…he just needs to get on top of his throws….they are sailing on him. He can flat out fly though.

Sarcasm?
CC’s stuff has been very good these last 2 starts. I wonder if Rothschild has had any influence on him to try and get more swings and misses…..that change up of his has become a real weapon and his velocity is up a little bit from where is usually is this time of year I think.
Is Swisher going to swing for a homerun every at bat?
Bojo has been in his own little Gardner world all game
If Gardner is a Ferrari , Montero must be that motorcycle from Akira. THE FUTURE.
First for swish nice
Take that, Ozzie.
Hey there is a Swish dinger
Well swinging for it finally worked lol
Gardner has more HRs than Jeter has XBH total.
Swish!
Swisher will never make another out again. Count on it.
Ah… Now that’s just refreshing to see.
span broke up the no no.
mlbnetwork jinx….as soon as they clicked over the no hitter was gone. The Twins offense is dreadful
Nieman loses no-hitter first pitch after MLB Network goes to the game.
Now that’s funny!
Sh…..
I feel like the Yankees have had an inordinate amount of good defensive plays/good shots stolen
Gardner has more HRs than Jeter has XBH total.

Gardner actually has really good XBH totals so far.
Strangely, the problem is singles and walking.
no mauer, and morneau is still showing the effects of that concussion. i have a feeling they will both put it together as the year goes on and the twins will get better.
No excuse for Nunez on the throw. However he has had some positives, like driving the ball and then beating out that infield hit.
Jerkface……Did Derek turn you down for an autograph as a snot nosed kid or something…..
Swisher’s OBP up to .351
Based on the source of the controversies on this thread, I think it’s fair to say that the Yankees have A-Rod at 3B and Lighting-rod at SS.
