Yankees offense comes to life

The Yankees corner outfielders have struggled this season, but not tonight. Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner each homered and scored three times as the Yankees cruised to a 12-3 win in the finale of their series against the White Sox. After scoring just five runs in their previous three games, the Yankees scored six runs in the fifth inning alone. That fifth took 32 minutes as the Yankees batted around before making an out. CC Sabathia got his second win of the season, pitching seven innings without an earned run. Eduardo Nunez and Gustavo Molina each had their first hits of the year.

2nd feel good win of the year, not much went wrong.

“2nd feel good win of the year, not much went wrong.”

    FIELDING
    E: E Nunez 2 (3, bobble, throw)

    Immutable fact, right?

  3. Rich in NJ April 28th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Nice win for the NY Jeters.

Seriously, I hope that I can continue to say that the last thing the Yankees need is another starting pitcher.

  4. Nick in SF April 28th, 2011 at 10:26 pm

They all feel good to me.

You just outed yourself as someone who only bets the over.

  5. Jerkface April 28th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Stuckey, please stop hating on true yankee Eduordo Nunez, you’re just hypocrisizing yourself.

  6. Chris W April 28th, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Well, it’s hard to win a 4 game series, and if Lillibridge doesn’t play superman or Soriano doesn’t cough up a dinger, they would have. Still have that Humber game, but stuff happens. I’m happy with winning the last two, and now they just need to win two of three vs. Toronto.

  7. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 10:29 pm

    Is he related to Eduardo?

  8. Jerkface April 28th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

    Yes, but better at fielding

  9. BoJo April 28th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I hear the Roger McDowell Charm School is accepting applicants. Maybe Ozzie will attend.

  10. BoJo April 28th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

I wonder how hard Selig will come down on Roger Dodger.

Pointing out Nunez’s stats in relation to Jeter is not trolling because how each player performs should influence their respective playing time

  12. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 10:42 pm

    Dwight?

    Chris?

    Deron?

The Garden will keep a light on for ya.

  13. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 10:45 pm

“Pointing out Nunez’s stats in relation to Jeter is not trolling because how each player performs should influence their respective playing time.”

And that’s relevant to Jeter’s stats being compared to Gardner’s or Gustavo Molina’s how?

Real question LGY – is a drive by post saying Molina is challenging jeter for XBH totals trolling?

    Yes or no?

Nunez made two errors on routine plays tonight….cost them 3 runs. How often should he play based on performance?

  15. LGY April 28th, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Gardner relates because they are competing to be at the top of the lineup. Hold on a sec on Molina.

  16. Jerkface April 28th, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Is it a drive by if my car is parked here 24/7?

  17. blake April 28th, 2011 at 10:51 pm

Pretty cool Pepsi ad with CC and the Field of dreams thing.

I think its difficult to asses a fielder who only gets a few innings a month to show anything. On the other hand, Nunez is not a good fielder based on his minor league numbers. I think if you gave him more time he could be as useful or better overall than jeter going forward though.

The fact that he isn’t a good candidate to simply come in and play defense is why I thought he ought to be in the minors.

  19. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 10:54 pm

“Gardner relates because they are competing to be at the top of the lineup.”

    I don’t recall asking…

“Hold on a sec on Molina.”

Understood. Take all the time you need to avoid answering honestly.

Pena is a better defender at all positions than Nunez…Nunez has some upside defensively….he reminds me of Alexi actually but he has a lot of cleaning up to do in his game with the glove. Obviously offensively he’s much better than Pena which is why he’s on the team……to contribute something with the bat when Jeter or Cano doesn’t play.

  21. Jerkface April 28th, 2011 at 10:55 pm

    Stuckey,

Did Jeter give you like a 100 autographs when you were a kid or something?

  22. blake April 28th, 2011 at 10:56 pm

if you two can manage to develop a deep seeded hatred for Brian Cashman then perhaps YNM will let you join his posse.

Given how often (meaning how few) that will be, I think Pena was the better choice. Defense helps our pitching more than 150 PA’s helps the offense.

  24. Rich in NJ April 28th, 2011 at 10:57 pm

Waldman said all the Yankees were protecting Nunez in the postgame. They said he’s a good player, but that it’s hard to stay sharp with so little PT. CC didnt want to let the first inning error affect the kid, so he really wanted to get out of the inining. Nunez said Jeter told him to keep his confidence up.

  25. blake April 28th, 2011 at 10:58 pm

“Given how often (meaning how few) that will be, I think Pena was the better choice. Defense helps our pitching more than 150 PA’s helps the offense.”

pretty much agree. I like having Nunez on the bench but what you’re saying is also correct…plus I’d like Nunez to play every day.

  26. blake April 28th, 2011 at 11:00 pm

Grady Sizemore is really looking to be back to form….wonder if he can stay healthy for once. He’s jacking up his trade value for the tribe…

  27. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 11:02 pm

“Did Jeter give you like a 100 autographs when you were a kid or something?”

No, I just don’t have the taste for bitterness toward people who are trying hard and just not succeeding. I don’t denigrate athletes for struggling.

I save it for people who are intentionally or ignorantly dragging things down.

And yeah, I know the next move. The Nunez comment was to make a point. I think he might be a good player and glad’s he here to back-up Jeter.

  28. LGY April 28th, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Molina relates because him and Jeter are competing for least amount of XBH by a Yankee this season?

    I got nothing.

But it’s ok, because you committed an error many fans do. You can troll at times without being a troll. Everyone trolls at some point and on some subject.

  29. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 11:03 pm

“Grady Sizemore is really looking to be back to form….wonder if he can stay healthy for once. He’s jacking up his trade value for the tribe…”

    Or his roster value…

    “I got nothing.”

Yeah, I already knew that. .

  32. blake April 28th, 2011 at 11:05 pm

    “Or his roster value…”

well yea….obviously they can’t trade him if they keep winning….but I just don’t think they will. Might be hard to deal him anyway and get the return they’d want….

  33. LGY April 28th, 2011 at 11:05 pm

A lot of the stuff I post about Jeter is solely for trolling purposes.

  34. stuckey99 April 28th, 2011 at 11:06 pm

“Were you not programed with a sense of humor?”

I was. But since we’re talking about Jerkface, how does that question apply?

  35. blake April 28th, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Was really good to see Gardner hit 2 balls well tonight….and probably more importantly that 2nd one where he stayed inside and drove it the other way. He really makes the offense better when he’s playing well so hopefully he’s about to turn things around a bit.

  36. blake April 28th, 2011 at 11:10 pm

when was the last time the Yankees got 4 straight starting pitching performances as good as they got in this series….

  37. LGY April 28th, 2011 at 11:10 pm

“I was. But since we’re talking about Jerkface, how does that question apply?”

  40. LGY April 28th, 2011 at 11:18 pm

The Indians should hope Sizemore can stay healthy and keep playing well until the deadline and then trade him before he gets hurt again.

That sounds exciting and all but I am going to have to pass.

Suffice to say, Face’s comments are not rooted in a “taste for bitterness” towards Jeter.
