Cervelli must be happy….the BFFs are reunited. ;)

Surprised to see CG betting ninth.

He doesnt get on base against lefties, only hits for power. Its the logical place for him.

Texas stadium seems like a place where he could some damage though. Warmer air–ball should carry.

Rough time to give your hottest hitter a day off while the rest of the team is the doldrums offensively.

  7. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 4:46 pm

BTW–temps are supposed to be near 80s…time for the cold weather excuse to go away. I expect to see Yankee bats wake up now

  8. Wave Your Hat May 6th, 2011 at 4:47 pm

    Maybe switch Posada and Granderson.

  9. 108 stitches May 6th, 2011 at 4:48 pm

It would be great if Jeter’s inside-out swing returned and he hit ball over the infield to advance runners or keep rallies going.

  10. Warning Track Power May 6th, 2011 at 4:49 pm

I would love to see Jeter go 4 for 4 tonight.
Maybe he can use some of that frustration from yesterday at the plate tonight vs the rangers.

  11. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 4:49 pm

I just have a feeling that Grandy will hit this guy…don’t know why…gut sense

    2-1 series Yankee win

if it’s any consolation at all, he’ll play tomorrow while Granderson gets the day off. ;)

    Jeter 4 for 4?
that’s even less likely than he actually drives a Ford.

  15. upstate kate May 6th, 2011 at 4:50 pm

just throwing this out there…is it possible that Nunez is over throwing b/c he was also playing in the outfield?

Hard for any of us to say, but he practices a lot in INF. AROd thinks it is because he plays too deep and doesn’t position himself well. From my eyes, it looks like he messes up his footwork at times.

  19. blake May 6th, 2011 at 4:53 pm

I think it will be interesting to see if Gardner plays tomorrow when they face another lefty. I don’t like platoons in general and think Gardner should play every day…..because he’s starting to hit and if for no other reason than he saves at least an out a night (more some nights) defensively.

  20. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 4:54 pm

I would rather see Nunez in LF than Jones. Still not a big fan of his. But will root for him while he is at bat nonetheless.

  21. Warning Track Power May 6th, 2011 at 4:55 pm

    blake-
if you belive what the manager said earlier this week, both Gardner and Granderson will receive a scheduled day off this weekend, in texas, vs a lefty starter.
    tonight was Gardner’s turn
    tomorrow will be Granderson’s turn

both players probably received advanced noticed, which is very typical in the majors.

Posada is hitless from the rightside…andruw jones should get some DH ABs…

i think gb7 was just learning to spell back then and it ticked off peter a. more than it should have.

Why, because he still spelled better than Pete?

Pete was terrible, mistakes all over his articles. I don’t know how he got that job at the Boston Globe. Maybe it was for his work slamming A-Rod daily.

blake, Girardi said both Gardner and Granderson would each get a day off against the leftys. Unless something’s changed, the Grandyman will sit tomorrow.

  25. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 4:57 pm

I mentioned yesterday that Nunez reminds me of Bobby Murcer and BJ Upton–two young SSs who had to move to outfield. Another one that crossed my mind in Danny Tartabull–who first came up as a 2B but later became a power-hitting corner OFer. I can definitely see potential for Nunez in that role. Strong enough arm, speed, played OF in Dominican instructional leagues growing up….

  26. GreenBeret7 May 6th, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Kate, I think that it’s more likely that it’s because Nunez isn’t sure where his feet are.

  27. blake May 6th, 2011 at 5:00 pm

I guess it makes sense to rest Granderson and Gardner each a day against the 2 lefties in this series if you’re going to rest them anyway.

The schedule during this stretch is just brutal….16 in row then 1 off day then 16 in a row again starting Tuesday against KC.

Ok, what is Granderson’s split vs lhp since his swing change? (I don’t know how to get that info)

  29. blake May 6th, 2011 at 5:01 pm

    Erin,

    Thanks. That makes more sense.

  30. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Ok, what is Granderson’s split vs lhp since his swing change? (I don’t know how to get that info

I dunno, I assume networks use Elias or something to get it or the team has more distinct splits. Here is what Granderson is doing this season: .259 .286 .667 .952

So basically, hitting waaaaaay better than usual, but not really getting on base. Putting him down in the lineup makes sense. He isn’t going to hit a lot but when he does hit its going to be damage.

  31. jacksquat May 6th, 2011 at 5:08 pm

JF, I asked because I suspect his OBP vs lhp since the swing change is better than what it is just this year.

But regardless, slg% has value also, does it not?

  32. upstate kate May 6th, 2011 at 5:08 pm

ah well, just trying to come up w/ an excuse for him

Definitely bummed about Chavez. I was pulling for him.

  35. LGY May 6th, 2011 at 5:14 pm

    Ramiro Pena has arrived.

    ————————

Hopefully Nunez’s ass print on the bench is not too developed yet and Pena can mold it to his liking.

But regardless, slg% has value also, does it not?

Right it probably is overall better, but this year it isn;t. So I wouldn’t really push to put him up higher against LHP. Though Posada has been so bad I’d bat Russ Martin above him and probably granderson too but they won’t do that and Girardi likes speed at 9.

One thing I am curious aboiut re: Matt Harrison…when did it become cool to glue a hamster to one’s chin?

It can’t be said the bullpen isn’t rested. The pitchers in the Detroit series pitched well enough to win. No run production and sloppy play was the story of that series.

Well said JF. If all those complaining about the battles from another blog would simply do what JF just did and demand it end right from the start, there would be no more of it. If that was so terrible to you, do something about it instead of just whinning more than YankeesNMore whines about Jeter

  46. Vineyard Yankee May 6th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

Yup, that is your ‘AGENDA’ all right, to try and draw attention to yourself with corny, unfunny attempts at humor. On a Baseball Blog no less.

  47. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Uh its called normal human posting, Vineyard. Maybe you should try it instead of your programmed attack mode

  48. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 6:25 pm

Hilarious, calling out BoJo on a post making fun of the opposing pitchers facial hair in a not mean spirited way.
