Is the difference between Granderson 2 and 9 really just swisher? That doesnt make sense logically.

  2. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Would have liked to see Martin in the 2 hole

  3. LGY May 6th, 2011 at 5:59 pm

    2nd leadoff hitter. Duh.

  4. Rich in NJ May 6th, 2011 at 6:01 pm

I like Swish a lot, and I think HR are a by-product of just hitting the ball hard on a consistent basis, but he has appeared to be the one batter on the team who seems to consistently swing for a HR irrespective of the count, the pitcher, or the score.

  5. LGY May 6th, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Maybe it’s part of Girardi’s long term plan to convince Jeter how important the second leadoff hitter is.

“Would have liked to see Martin in the 2 hole”

Can’t have 2 righties back to back…..don’t ask me why.

  7. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Glad to see Joe checked my earlier post and made the change.

    :-)

  8. Rich in NJ May 6th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

“Can’t have 2 righties back to back…..don’t ask me why”

In that vein, my future lineup (so I’m not pushing Jeter out now) would be Gardner-Granderson , 1-2, assuming no future acquisitions to change the calculus.

  9. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:07 pm

    Rich,

Can’t have lefties back to back either…..

That would practically force Girardi to put Granderson and Gardner back to back 8-9 (or Jones or Posada hitting 8th; not gonna happen). Two lefties back to back is a big no-no in the Girardi Binder.

Yes, it is strange to move a hitter that was originally only good enough for 9th to 2nd.

  11. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:13 pm

I would have flipped Martin and Jones…..I certainly wouldn’t pitch to Cano with Andrew on deck.

  12. Eroc May 6th, 2011 at 6:16 pm

What about vs. lefties? Martin 2?

  13. LGY May 6th, 2011 at 6:19 pm

If Joe hasn’t noticed, managers have been leaving their LOOGYs in to face Jeter so breaking up Grandy and Gardy doesn’t accomplish much.

  14. lounge lizard May 6th, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Martin is leading the team in DPs. Counts against him for the 2 spot.

Great point…Unfortunately, the updates to the binder are bi-weekly apparently.

  16. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 6:23 pm

    I like the Gardy-Grandy idea

  17. D-Man May 6th, 2011 at 6:23 pm

We don’t have an ideal leadoff or #2 hitter.

  18. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:24 pm

    I wonder if Joe’s binder is a Trapper Keeper…..y’all remember those. :)

  19. Niblick May 6th, 2011 at 6:24 pm

Swisher needs a day off, whether or not he’s sick. He hasn’t been hitting at all. And Gardner seems to be back in the groove and hits lefties as well as righties.

For all of Manager Joe’s supposed intelligence, and reliance on his “book”, he often reverts to the old baseball axioms about things like platoons.

  20. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 6:24 pm

We don’t have an ideal leadoff or #2 hitter.

    *cough cough gardner cough cough*

  21. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Gardner can’t hit lead off and 2nd both…..only bugs bunny can pull that off.

  22. Niblick May 6th, 2011 at 6:26 pm

At least Jorge isn’t leading off. He’s the only one with an OBP lower than Jeter.

  23. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 6:27 pm

Well we have an ideal 1 of the two, though I’d put Martin as a candidate for ideal #2. He has just enough speed, is a smart baserunner, uses the whole field when he is going right, and gets on base.

Would it have killed them to include a photo w/ that tweet??? ;)

  28. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:29 pm

If Jeter doesn’t turn it around (which I still believe he will) then I think you’ll see Gardner/Martin vs RHP and Jeter/Swisher vs LHP in the 2nd half.

  29. Jerkface May 6th, 2011 at 6:30 pm

So want to replace Posada with Montero though. Posada is awesome and I think he should go to the hall of fame, but he isn’t a sure enough thing to keep trotting out there when we have someone that could really make an impact as a young bat. Free Montero!

  30. Erin May 6th, 2011 at 6:30 pm

JackCurryYES Harrison pulled a six-pack out vs Yanks in his last start by inducing them to hit into 6 dps. 1st 6 hitters in lineup were all doubled up.

YankeesWFAN For no logical reason Jorge Posada is 0 for 20 vs LHP. Yanks face back to back lefty starters in this series.

  31. Niblick May 6th, 2011 at 6:31 pm

It seems as if Martin is being made to pay his dues, batting in a crappy position in the batting order, the way Robbie did for years until he was finally allowed at the adult table in 2010.

    Thx–had forgotten that!

JF–I want to see Jorge hit in hot weather before they pull plug on him. If he struggles this month, (in best George C Scott Patton imitation): “Well, you’ll know what to do.”

  33. Tom in N.J. May 6th, 2011 at 6:34 pm

I thought about putting Montero in there, Jerkface, for the reasons you just said.

When it comes to baseball players, I’m loyal to a fault. Especially when it comes to players who’ve had hall of fame caliber careers. Guys like Posada and, yes, Jeter should be given a longer rope. They’ve earned that right.

Jesus Montero’s time will come soon.

  34. Ninja Burglar May 6th, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Any way you toss it, those are still 9 good players in that lineup.

  35. NW Yankees Fan May 6th, 2011 at 6:39 pm

I really feel that both Posada and Jeter are done. Just watch their approaches at the plate; just awful IMO.

  36. Captain Clutch May 6th, 2011 at 6:39 pm

    Good news….

Alexi Ogando (blister) may not make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Yankees.

    That would be good news.

  38. blake May 6th, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Why would that be good news ……that means they’d probably just bring up some minor leaguer the Yankees have never faced ;)

  39. YsGuy May 6th, 2011 at 6:44 pm

we beat ogando the last time and he is hr prone, id rather face him than whoever we havent seen yet

yes, but scherzer is just a better pitcher at this point than ogando. there are no guarantees i just prefer seeing them face a guy they know than a guy they don’t know.

Normally I would agree, but Swish is hitting LHP really well so far. .429/.455/.500

His left handed swing has just been a mess as he has only 9 hits in 70 at bats vs righties.

Am on my way to the Tampa Yankees game. Of course traffic is awful. At this pace I will be there by the 7th inning.

  47. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 7:06 pm

Nick Swisher was scratched form the Yankees lineup for tonight’s game with the Texas Rangers about two hours before first pitch due to what Joe Girardi called “a bad head cold.”

YankeesWFAN TEX pitchers will have lot to say about it, but I think NYY hitters feeling good about breaking out. Several mentioned temps. In 80′s here.

  49. 4 NYY May 6th, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Harrison pitched well against Yanks last time, and we’re in a slump.

    TIME TO BREAK OUT !!!

  56. BoJo May 6th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Joe Girardi has got to be one of the most mediocre managers in baseball.
    ======================================

Girardi leads the league in mediocrity.
