Colon struggles, Yankees lose

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on May 07, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

For the first time since stepping into the rotation last month, Bartolo Colon truly struggled tonight. He didn’t take the loss, but the bulk of the damage was done on his watch in a 7-5 Yankees loss in Texas. The Yankees came back to tie after Colon allowed five runs in the first two innings, but Boone Logan’s inability to retire a string of lefties in the sixth inning let the Rangers jump back in front and ultimately tie this series at a game apiece. It was the Yankees fourth loss in the past five days.

    CC for the series win!

Logan cannot pitch in anything but low leverage situations right now, and they need to stop pretending with Alex and get him right.

  3. TD213 May 7th, 2011 at 11:08 pm

YankeesWFAN Rangers bullpen allowed just 2 hits in 6 innings.

Boon Logan is useless.. Lefties have a .400+ OBP on the guy.

Time to watch a good war flick. “Sink The Hering (Bismarck)”, “Midway” and “When Hell Was In Session”. This place will be a wasteland tonight.

I watched a sort of war movie earlier, “Triage.” Decent.

Logan sucks @$$. He’s a lefty who doesn’t get any lefties out. Worthless bum. Yankees sinking to second place… and A Jones isn’t much of an improvement over Gardner and plays 100 times worse in the field… he’s not worth the at bats.

Cano has been my favorite player on the Yankees since he came up, so it’s really annoying that I need to post all the inadequacies in his game so far this season to counteract the undeserved Tex bashing.

Soooo lohud, stop posting stupid things about Tex and stop glorifying Cano’s very good but not great numbers!

  10. BoJo May 7th, 2011 at 11:20 pm

    Good night night people

  11. LGY May 7th, 2011 at 11:22 pm

The most annoying part is that Tex is KILLING IT with RISP while Cano is sucking big time with RISP so far.

  12. Nick in SF May 7th, 2011 at 11:24 pm

I appreciate everyone defending Tex, but we should face the facts: ever since to failed to adequately clarify that he wasn’t endorsing organized crime in his notorious tweet, he’s been awful!

Great comeback. Pointless with our pathetic middle relief. Great comeback.

  14. Jerkface May 7th, 2011 at 11:25 pm

    RISP tex: .313 .455 .938 1.392
    RISP cano: .231 .241 .462 .703

    Good point.

Arod has turned into a pop up artist. He has to provide some power, if he`s hurt sit him.

  16. Niblick May 7th, 2011 at 11:30 pm

Jerkface – very small sample size = huge standard deviation = meaningless.

Right, so then if you look at a full season Tex is going to get on base more than Cano ergo be in the third spot. If you want to look at ‘narrative stats’ Tex still wins there. Cano only wins in batting average. If Cano would be the same hitter he was last year, I’d bat him third, but thus far he hasn’t proven to be.

  18. Captain Clutch May 7th, 2011 at 11:54 pm

The Yanks can pretend all they want that Arod is healthy but we aren’t morons. They should sit him for 3-4 days or whatever he needs to get him healthy. Trying to be a hero obviously isn’t working and it will make it worse for his body in the long run.

  19. Captain Clutch May 7th, 2011 at 11:55 pm

BNightengale #mlb It will be #Rangers David Bush and not Ogando starting tomorrow against #Yankees

Bush stinks. If the Yanks can’t pound him then they really have issues.

  20. Bo knows May 7th, 2011 at 11:57 pm

For some reason Cano has decided to swing at the ball chin hi or anything within hailing distance or not.

Good idea, sit A-Rod, and play Pena or Nunez (and see more errors than hits). That should make us 100% better team, get real!

  22. LGY May 8th, 2011 at 12:09 am

As bad as Alex has played since his injury and as much as it pains me to say this, but the Yankees would have probably been better off with Pena in the lineup.

His production has been…well…Ramiro Pena esque.

The benefit of having Pena over Alex though is that you don’t have to bat Pena 4th.

  23. LGY May 8th, 2011 at 12:14 am

Alex’s line since returning on April 20th

    .179/.258/.268 .526 OPS

  24. Captain Clutch May 8th, 2011 at 12:15 am

Good idea, sit A-Rod, and play Pena or Nunez
    ———–

The point is to sit him so he heals whatever is bothering him and he gets to 100%. I would rather see Pena or Nunez play for 3 or 4 days now instead of Arod continuing to play with an injury and perhaps have to go on the dl because he tried to be a hero and it turned into something more.

  25. BIG AL May 8th, 2011 at 12:18 am

OK – I see the point with A-Rod, and this is what makes the injury to Chavez so much bigger, that is why we signed him, to BU A-Rod, and not lose much in his AB’s.

  26. Bronx Jeers May 8th, 2011 at 12:18 am

Yanks a .333 team since OBL got whacked.

Man up you bleeding heart wussies!!

  27. Nick in SF May 8th, 2011 at 12:35 am

Can you back that up to since the Royal Wedding????

  28. BIG AL May 8th, 2011 at 12:37 am

    Nick -

So what you’re saying, the Brit’s have caused the Yankees a royal pain in the A**?

  29. BIG AL May 8th, 2011 at 12:40 am

    Good night y’all.

  30. Nick in SF May 8th, 2011 at 12:41 am

I’m saying this Yankee sentiment problem may run even deeper than we think.

  31. Vineyard Yankee May 8th, 2011 at 1:12 am

Tomorrow is a new day with another game on tap. Get over it.
