If I’m dumb, patrick, well, you’re an idiot

By no means did I call you dumb. I think your comment was dumb but that doesn’t mean you are dumb at all. My point of view is, people who don’t understand advanced stats aren’t dumb, they are just uninformed. It’s much more valuable to inform people and try to teach rather than belittle them and call them names. If I came off badly and insulted you, I apologize.

  2. pat May 12th, 2011 at 4:23 pm

swbyankeesTT I have all the respect in the world for @Joelsherman1, but I can’t believe the Yankees would use a 40-man spot on Amauri Sanit. I just can’t

swbyankeesTT But word I’m getting is that, indeed, Amauri Sanit is getting called up. Great job by @Joelsherman1. I’d never have guessed this.

swbyankeesTT Honestly, I’d have been less surprised if the Yankees called up Kei Igawa than I am that they are going with Sanit. Something has to be up.

Gross. What does Jeter need a half day off? They had Monday off.

If you want to give Jetes a day then give him a full one.

LGY – Maybe Posada is the one getting a day… I doubt they are sitting Posada to keep Jeter’s bat in the lineup. If Chavez was still alive Jeter would likely be playing short today.

I think it’s just a case of Girardi wanting to give Nunez some more playing time so that when he is needed he won’t be such a mess in the field.

And who knows, if Nunez plays well and Jeter continues to struggle we might see Nunez get more than a start every few weeks.

  8. SoS May 12th, 2011 at 4:28 pm

Doctor: What picture do you see here Robby?

    Cano: Matsui’s wife.

    Doctor: Play ball!!

  9. GreenBeret7 May 12th, 2011 at 4:28 pm

pat, If Scranton hadn’t used Whelan for 1.1 innings today, he’d be preferrab;e to Sanit. A pity that they have to wait 9 more days before Pendleton could return (unless there’s an injury), though, like Carlyle, he’s a lot of smoke and mirrors, though, it’s a higher quality of smoke and mirrors. None of that carnival stuff in the “Fun House”.

  10. Irreverent Discourse May 12th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

I never understood why Girardi always doubles down on his subs when he has a BUC in… he does it ALL the time. If you are weakening your lineup and defense with a BUC, wouldn’t you want the rest of the A squad playing? He also never does this when CC is on the mound and they could absorb the offenseive loss easier.

  12. blake May 12th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

If it’s posada getting the say then Nunez should be DH and Jeter should be playin SS. Mu guess is they are giving Posada a day and Jeter a 1/2 day before the Sox series.

    scary thought..
    if cano can’t play #’s 4 – 9 are

    4 – arod
    5 – swisher
    6 – gardner
    7 – nunez
    8 – cervelli
    9 – pena

with jeter then hitting after pena…

can we ask Nova to pitch a shutout?

  16. LGY May 12th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

16 days in a row again.

    —–

How does getting a half day just 3 days in help with that?

  17. Irreverent Discourse May 12th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

    From MLBTR:
In today’s Insider-only blog post, ESPN’s Buster Olney notes that Rays ace David Price is relying heavily on his fastball. Price threw 103 fastballs out of 112 pitches yesterday, though he averaged a season-high 95.3 mph with the pitch and threw it to both sides of the plate.

Does that qualify as pitching, or chucking?

  18. Patrick May 12th, 2011 at 4:32 pm

No one is arguing that contact hitters aren’t better than all or nothing strikout guys.

Well that depends on how “all” the all or nothing guys are and how much power and plate discipline the contact hitter has.

I’d take Adam Dunn over Placido Polanco or whoever it was that rr suggested.

  19. Patrick May 12th, 2011 at 4:33 pm

Yes, but why on a day I am actually attending in person? Why not when jerkface is there in person instead, he’s a big Nunez fan.

    I think he’s more anti-Jeter than pro-Nunez.

  20. YsGuy May 12th, 2011 at 4:33 pm

    it qualifies as winning

  21. Irreverent Discourse May 12th, 2011 at 4:33 pm

LGY – Jones isn’t exactly batting well against righties… of course neither is jeter…

    I have no idea. :(

  22. UnKnown May 12th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

Gearing up for the weekend series. Martin will play all three games this weekend along with all the other big guns.

I just hope Nunez can get through the game without an error. He has been Marcus Thames like in the field this year.

  23. Irreverent Discourse May 12th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Jones is likely to see time against Lester and Price this weekend… I don’t know I’m plucking at straws here.

When I played little league. I knew a catcher that used to flip off his pitchers as a sign to get them to throw harder. I wonder how many your #1′s did the catcher drop on Price to get his avg. up?

  25. Eroc May 12th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Can’t play Andrew against a righty

  26. blake May 12th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Andrew should play as little as possible.

  27. blake May 12th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

David Price should rely on his fastball…..its awesome.

  28. Wave Your Hat May 12th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Why is Pena on the team if Nunez gets the start tonight?

  29. Eroc May 12th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

They prob. just want to get Nunez in the field again, especially with a groundball pitcher, to get him more chances to field.

  30. GreenBeret7 May 12th, 2011 at 4:39 pm

I seriously doubt that The Jerk was at the game last night. The cameras panned the crowd serveral times and I didn’t see any pimpled faced, pizza munching dweeb with a pocket protector, calculator and black rimmed glasses with white tape holding them together.

  31. Erin May 12th, 2011 at 4:39 pm

RiverAveBlues Off the cuff, I?d say Cervelli is getting the start tonight because Girardi wants to use Martin for all 3 games vs. BOS but not 6 in a row.

  32. LGY May 12th, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Andruw hit 11 taters against RHP last year.

He is no great shakes against righties but he is a better option than Jeter or Nunez :(

  33. J. Alfred Prufrock May 12th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

    I Like Inge said:

Me too. Posada looks like a beast when he gets angry too. I’m sure there was some akward silence and media faces plastered to their note pads as he left. He reminds me of my old man when he gets angry. I’m still scared of him and he’s 62 now.

Why is Pena on the team if Nunez gets the start tonight?

I started writing a post defending Pena’s roster spot but I just couldn’t. He shouldn’t be on the team. However, I don’t really care because he’s at the end of the bench and probably won’t play unless we need a pinch runner or a defensive replacement for Nunez today.

Just in case 2 middle infielders get hurt in the same game.

Ya know how they took Cano out yesterday after he got it? What if Jeter got hurt too? What would Girardi do then????

  42. Wave Your Hat May 12th, 2011 at 4:45 pm

I agree with blake and Patrick. Pena just isn’t going to play. Even a thirteenth pitcher would see more action.

  43. SoS May 12th, 2011 at 4:45 pm

Can we trade Jones for Thames straight up. I would go get Bettimett in a three team trade if it would seal the deal.

  44. G. Love May 12th, 2011 at 4:46 pm

    blake,

I think Pena was the safe choice and I think if they add anyone else it’s a 40 man roster move and they don’t seem to want to make any of those unless they have to.

Reading about Jorge walking out on the media is going to do one of two things – it’s either going to get him mad enough to start talking with the bat or he’ll keep flailing and Montero will soon be here.

From the reports that he crushed an off speed pitch for a HR today, I think he’s getting closer and closer to being called up here.

The Royals being aggressive with Hosmer will hopefully inspire the Yankees to do the same with Montero.

This Jorge issue is going to get ugly though unless he hits fast. Seeing Swisher get walked to pitch to Jorge in the 9th of a tie game last night was the ultimate slap in the face.

  45. Wave Your Hat May 12th, 2011 at 4:47 pm

What is Whelan’s upside. He always has a lot of strikouts and usually too many walks. Does he has the stuff the make it or is he a junk ball type that baffles minor league hitters?

  48. LGY May 12th, 2011 at 4:48 pm

A back up back up infielder is a waste of a roster spot…….if somehow Jeter and Cano both get hurt then you make due and make a move after the game. As Wave said…..the extra reliever would be more valuable…..that or Jorge Vasquez or anybody that could hit.

Chavez just has a bone bruise instead of a fracture so hopefully he will be back soon.

This Jorge issue is going to get ugly though unless he hits fast. Seeing Swisher get walked to pitch to Jorge in the 9th of a tie game last night was the ultimate slap in the face.

Not you too? Swisher was walked because there was runner at 2nd base and 1b was empty. Tie game, only the runner at 2b mattered. Walking Swisher set up force outs at 1b/2b/3b, instead of just 1b. It’s a standard move. Swisher and Posada are almost equally feeble now and everyone knows it. Swisher was not walked to pitch to a less dangerous Posada.

  54. The Hand of Satan May 12th, 2011 at 4:52 pm

donnie collins’s scranton yankees blog had a good piece i quoted earlier posted yesterday specifically answering the question ‘is there anybody who can help the yankees down at aaa’ which is a very good read. in short, the answer is no. but he breaks it down to the 6 guys who are the closest (and he rates montero 6th)

Mac, to be perfectly honest, I don’t know. He’s been exposed to the Rule 5 and nobody took him. great arm/stuff, but, until this year was always a walk or home run in the late innings waiting to happen. Except for 2 games this year, he’s been good. he’s closing for Scranton

    Stigmata ?

  77. 4 NYY May 12th, 2011 at 5:12 pm

One thing to remember is that some guys can’t play well in N.Y. for whatever reason. Pressure ?

Scott Podsednik was released yesterday from AAA. I would rather give him a shot as the 4th outfielder than “Smily” Jones.

Should have let Nunez DH instead. IMO He’s not the glove, at least not yet, that Jeter is and always has been.

    Oh, and I luv ( NOT ) Igawa. He’s done after this year right ? Poor guy ! ( $$$ )

  78. YsGuy May 12th, 2011 at 5:15 pm

shades was on the trenton roster the other night sporting a 0 era, and they’ve only used him for like 4 innings. not bad work for $4M

  79. Irreverent Discourse May 12th, 2011 at 5:16 pm

Podsednik is a pro journeyman and has had enough trouble staying above replacement level his whole career, I don’t see what he’s going to do for the Yankees that other slumping hitters aren’t already doing.

  80. 4 NYY May 12th, 2011 at 5:17 pm

He’s got more “life” than “Smily.” He can still run and can actually bunt, if I remember right.

Actually I’d rather see Montero come and get it over with.

  81. SoS May 12th, 2011 at 5:18 pm

    GB,
That sounds like a great idea. Ill throw the “unconditional” card on her. Whats not to like about mice, snakes and best of all Utah. It will take just a little getting used to. Hows your health these days. Hows Nurse Randy I.(if i can remember) treating you these days?

  82. Bronx Jeers May 12th, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Podsednik would be a good acquisition if only it allows us to yell corny Star Trek references.

  84. SoS May 12th, 2011 at 5:23 pm

If we add Podsednic to the roster. We would have teams panicking and taking extra fielding practice on bunting. I would go homerun lineup one day and catch them off guard with the all bunting team lineup the next (Jeter, Gardner, Pods, Pena, Swish, Posada etc.).
