Jorge Posada has been scratched. Not sure why. Andruw Jones will DH and bat ninth.

I wonder what this is about…

    Interesting stuff from Steven Goldman:

“It sure seems like Eric Hosmer might be to the 21st-century Yankees what Brett was to the 20th-century team. Like I said, it’s early, it’s premature… But my, the lad is talented. Someday the Yankees will develop a young player with this kind of hitting talent.

Oh, yeah, they did… Jesus Montero. Too bad the Yankees don’t have an opening at DH or a need to goose the offense just now… Montero is hitting .327, and he knocked his second home run of the season. He’s not dominating the minors the way Hosmer did, but he doesn’t have to be Hosmer to give the Yankees a lift. He just has to be better than what they have now.”

Anyone who thinks the Yankees won’t pickup Swishers option regardless of what happens this year isn’t looking ahead to what is actually available or the cost of FA outfielders.

  4. Tom in N.J. May 14th, 2011 at 6:38 pm

    But David DeJesus is available!

    It’s all coming together…

Re-upping Swisher for 1 year at a bargain 10 mil based on his 09 ’10 production > having to sign … who exactly? to a multi-year deal.

Even if they don’t want to keep swisher, they will re-up the option and then trade him because teams would enjoy knowing exactly how much swisher will cost and without having to sign him for 3-4 years.

    Posada Retires.?

  7. michaels07 May 14th, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Cahman ready to pull the trigger?

  8. jacksquat May 14th, 2011 at 6:42 pm

If Swisher still has a .649 OPS at the end of the year, he may not be tradeable.

    Unlikely, but you never know…

  9. jacksquat May 14th, 2011 at 6:43 pm

My first thought was Posada may be retiring, but it’s hard for me to imagine him giving up so soon, just after saying he’s feeling better at the plate.

Someone will trade for him, he is 30 years old. Look at the FA Ofers for 2012, who are we replacing him with?

If Swish puts up a 2008-esque season, how much value will he really have?

Yanks FO are not exactly the most patient bunch either. If the offense is a problem all year, they will look to upgrade where they realistically can (DH/RF).

  12. Red Lobster May 14th, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Some nice names on that list -

Beltran, Sizemore (if he is healthy), Abreu, Willingham

  13. Jerkface May 14th, 2011 at 6:49 pm

If Swish puts up a 2008-esque season, how much value will he really have?

The value of 3 players including a MLB 3B/UIF

Yankees would get something for him. Which is better than getting nothing for him, oh and also not having a RFer.

Look at that list. There is no one better than Swisher on there. They’d have to trade and thats not guaranteed aka they will pickup the option, try to work a trade, then deal with swisher later.

You can do worse than 4th OFer Nick Swisher, look at Andruw Jones.

  14. jacksquat May 14th, 2011 at 6:49 pm

I know, I posted that list earlier.

Beltran would be nice, but he’ll turn 35 next year and Boras will probably still want a 3+ year contract…

Sizemore would have to be a trade.

Cuddyer/Kubel would be kind of sideways moves.

  15. Jerkface May 14th, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Beltran, Sizemore (if he is healthy), Abreu, Willingham

Beltran will require a multi-year deal, Sizemore has an option, Abreu has an option, Willingham? .229 .308 .424 .732 this year and worse career numbers than Swisher and 2 years older aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Yankees should also start playing JV in RF at AAA….

  17. Tom in N.J. May 14th, 2011 at 6:58 pm

Why would Marc Carig be asking questions about Venezuelan rivalries?

Ledger_Yankees Venezuelan tweeps: The big rivalry is Caracas vs. Magallanes. Right?

    ___

    want maybe, get?

  19. JM May 14th, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Beltran? No thanks. Has a hard time staying healthy and will be turning 35. Plus will cost too much. Pass.

  20. Carlo May 14th, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Beltran wanted to be a Yankee before. A significant new deal may not be required. The alternative for him is playing out his current deal on a team going nowhere.

Just saw Papelbon’s pre-game interview on FOX.

He’s as articulate as he is gracious.

  22. BoJo May 14th, 2011 at 7:29 pm

He did that just to show off
