Yankees win their third straight

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on May 19, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Yankees seem to have an offense again. Building a three-game winning streak, the Yankees beat the Orioles 13-2 tonight. Every Yankees starter reached base, Mark Teixeira and Eduardo Nunez went deep and struggling Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher each had key doubles and reached base a total of six times. CC Sabathia looked like his old self with eight scoreless innings, and the Yankees are coming home feeling much better than when they left.

Hope the offense keeps rolling against the Mets. I am going to the game tomorrow night and don’t want to hear any cheers from Mets fans. :)

For Charleston, Anderson Feliz hits a walk off homer in the 12th inning against Savannah Sand Gnats. He ended the night with a double, triple and homer.

    Here’s the final box score.

Good for him. I saw he had the double and triple. Here comes the projected power. I really liked his bat when I saw him in Lakewood. Do you know which side he hit the homer from?

I always liked Okajima if the Sox don’t trade him which they probably will the Yanks should try to sign him if he becomes a free agent. Hopefully he will want to get bak at the Sox like Aceves did with the Yanks.

YankeeFem. I didn’t pay any attention to which side Feliz was hitting from. I wish that MiLB.com would use the instant update Gameday instead of having to wait 10 minutes to update the game. Same with pitch counts and types of pitches.

  15. yankeefeminista May 19th, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Morales’ mechanics need a lot of fixing; his control/walk rates are abysmal and he has been downright putrid vs. lefties the past couple of seasons.

  16. tyanksfan36 May 19th, 2011 at 11:09 pm

The Tampa Yankees have had 2 come from behind wins in their past 2 games. Hopefully they can finally win 3 in a row tomorrow night.

Tampa didn’t follow the pattern; they were supposed to go into extras like the Yanks last night and Trenton and the RiverDogs did today. I heard that they have to give back one of the wins. ;)

When Bretts mom can’t listen to the games and I am there she has me update her. She sends frantic texts if the thing hasn’t updated after a while. I never like to let her know if he has given up runs. I know today they had an early game so I was updating it at work and I would get nervous if they were still in the top of any inning.

  25. yankeefeminista May 19th, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Extras also affect ex-Yankees. The Melkman is 3/5 for Royals and is the winning run on 3rd if Francoeur can get him in.

  26. LGY May 19th, 2011 at 11:16 pm

  29. GreenBeret7 May 19th, 2011 at 11:18 pm

Looks like Matsuzaka may be going into the James Andrews Body Repair Shop to have the dents taken out of the fenders. Apparently, something went wrong after somebody stole his gyroball and threw him out of balance and ge crashed.

The game last night was intense. We were losing then tied it up. Top of the next inning we gave up the go ahead run, in the bottom of that inning we tied it and got the go ahead. Surprisingly we were out by 930. Brett wasn’t very sharp but he only let them score 3 runs in 5 innings and they were able to come back which hasn’t happened much this season. Last time he gave up 3 runs the TY only had 3 hits.

Abe has looked better lately. His avg is still below 200 last I checked but he is looking better at the plate. He is okay I center but he is no Melky Mesa who really knew how to work centerfield at GMS field.

Lately he attempts to bunt the first pitch of every at bat but hasn’t been successful yet.

  32. yankeefeminista May 19th, 2011 at 11:23 pm

I don’t know why Chad isn’t forwarding my emails to you. I have sent him 2 already.

I haven’t seen GBs posts on Melkys catches.

Brett has been good his last 3 outings before this one but 3 runs in 5 innings when he allowed 7 hits and 4 walks to a 1st place team is pretty good. He was just a bit wild.

Scott Allen took over for Ramirez and he hasn’t been much better. If not for his start yesterday the TY would have won 5 in a row but he and Quintana allowed st. Lucie to blow the game out of the water.

The rotation now with Marshall as the # 1 is Marshall, Black/solbach(who pitched today) Heredia, Romanski and Allen.

  42. Yogi Mantle May 19th, 2011 at 11:32 pm

I keep wondering about both Aceves and Beckett both having their backs miraculously doing so well. Aceves couldn’t even pitch last year, no surgery other than his clavicle, and he is fine? Beckett too.

If they got epidurals that could come back on them big time, as it only masks pain, and doesn’t do anything to cure the back. That could lead to more damage that can’t be covered up by a shot.

I don’t know what his velocity is but I could probably find out tomorrow. It would probably be a lot easier to know what they were throwing if they had pitch speed displayed but that don’t which is wierd because with the Yankees doing ST at GMS field its something you would think they’d have.

  49. GreenBeret7 May 19th, 2011 at 11:44 pm

Ramirez has lost the strike zone (always his strong point) and when he has to throw a cripple strike, they hammer it.

Just wonder what Heredia is sitting and topping out at, but only if it is easy to find out.

Trenton has no velo or pitch counts either. Last Banuelos game I sat next to an A’s scout who shared all his velo’s with me. Funny thing was before the game, he and these other scouts were talking about how they had never read and some refused to ever read Moneyball. It was pretty hilarious.

    ____
Yes, I am very concerned. Anyone give a reason on radio broadcasts or do you have any theories? When I saw him last year with Charleston at Lakewood he had impeccable FB command and a filthy changeup. He rarely walked anyone. I know he was trying to implement a curve but couldn’t really spin it, so they changed his breaking ball to a slider/slurve, which he was still having trouble with but it was OK. However, here he is again in A- and he should be able to repeat his delivery there and get batters out. Yet he is walking guys in A-. What the heck is going on? I wonder if it is physical, mechanical or psychological???

  52. yankeefeminista May 19th, 2011 at 11:52 pm

I know with Brackman they were making him throw the change in any count and that resulted in walks while he was at Charleston. Could they be doing likewise with J-Ram and the slurve?

  53. tyanksfan36 May 20th, 2011 at 12:08 am

    Yankeefem

It won’t be a problem. I can just sit behind the guys with the radar guns for a while.

  54. GreenBeret7 May 20th, 2011 at 12:09 am

YankeeFem, the only thing that I can think of with Ramirez is that he’s still gurting or, at least tentative to cut it loose. He’s still really young and I’m guessing fear has something to do with it. He tried to compensate for the pain and not, it’s turned into a flaw. If ever there was a pitcher that needs t go to a pitching doctor, he’s it. Maybe send him to Tommy Phelps at Trenton for a couple of weeks and get him straightened out. Not to pitch in games, just to get his mechanics straightened out. Not totally on the Billy Conners/Contreres bandwagon.

  58. kd May 20th, 2011 at 12:51 am

the sox signing millwood after a spring of watching him throw 82 is a complete indictment of the upper levels of their system. they don’t have a single aaa pitcher better than kevin millwood? no nova, noesi, phelps up there.

for all of the anti-cashman chatter on this board, he’s shown that he can build a better farm system than the boy genius in boston
