this looks like a winning lineup.

  2. MoRings42 May 21st, 2011 at 3:52 pm

It feels like 2008 but with pitching.

  3. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Swisher, Jeter, and Posada should never be in the lineup at the same time until at least one of them start hitting consistently.

  4. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 3:52 pm

It’s amazing how bad they are at the OF corners. Gardner needs to play v. LHP.

  5. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Nunez should be there on a near everyday basis at this point with how well he has hit when called upon to see what he can give them offensively.

Dickerson should get more PT to show what he can do vs RHP.

Montero should be here playing multiple times a week.

    Cervelli should be in AAA.

I bet yanks and swish part ways after this season and we go get outfielder with pop and an arm

    ——————————————————–

Any of those guys like that on the market?

  7. Against All Odds May 21st, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Dickerson should get more PT to show what he can do vs RHP.

    ——————————————

Hopefully the hit in the head doesn’t mess him up for the rest of the season. I’d also like to see him get more time.

  8. Captain Clutch May 21st, 2011 at 4:01 pm

The organization has to move on from the past. They should be open to moving Jeter down in the lineup after he gets his 3,000th hit. I want to see more of Nunez in the lineup while Jeter and Arod DH and play Posada less and less. Also Gardner shouldn’t be sitting for Jones. Maybe if it was 5 years ago but not this version of Andruw Jones.

  9. UnKnown May 21st, 2011 at 4:02 pm

I just need to see more defensively out of Nunez to be ok with him playing more than he is right now.

  10. Captain Clutch May 21st, 2011 at 4:03 pm

The manager is so obsessed with lefties can’t face lefties and you play a righty against a lefty that he doesn’t realize that Gardner is a better option than cooked off the juice Jones.

  11. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Against RHP having Jeter and Swisher in there is like having to pitchers in the lineup.

It’s insane those two continue to be in the lineup together everyday vs right handers.

  12. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:04 pm

    *two pitchers*

  13. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:06 pm

    —-

He should get more PT so he will be sharper in the field. And he should get time in RF.

  14. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Well, for better or worse, Jeter isn’t going anywhere, so that leaves….

  15. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Like randy says, maybe Jeter will be better with less PT and more rest.

Swish should have to earn his PT vs RH at this point.

  16. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 4:11 pm

OK, but how often is Jeter going to be rested, once a week?

  17. Captain Clutch May 21st, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Jeter isn’t going anywhere so there is no reason to talk about sitting him. He could hit .100 for the next month and he would still be batting leadoff and playing SS. Posada’s playing time has already been cut and Swisher should be next. Swish doesn’t have a long track record like those guys and he isn’t an all star so his leash shouldn’t be long. I think Girardi should sit him for a couple of days and see if it lights a fire under him. You know ruffle his leathers like what Girardi and Cash did to Posada.

  18. 108 stitches May 21st, 2011 at 4:17 pm

The biggest waste of roster space right now is Andruw Jones. He adds nothing to this team. Chris Dickerson or Justin Maxwell can do anything Jones can …… plus.

  19. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Maxwell can’t control the strikezone in the mL. I think he’d likely be awful here.

A decent OF should be the easiest thing to trade for.

But an athlete like Nunez should be able to play the OF. They always say it’s much easier to move from the infield to the outfield than the other way around.

  20. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:21 pm

I would sit Po, Jeter, and Swish all twice a week until if/when they hit consistently.

  21. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Posada more than twice if they face multiple LH. He should sit once a week vs RHP.

  22. austinmac May 21st, 2011 at 4:34 pm

I agree with Rich about Maxwell. His strike out rates screams major league failure. An outfielder better than Jones will have to come from elsewhere.

  23. Pat M. May 21st, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Come next weeks draft remember this name …..Henry Owens, lefthander out of Huntington Beach, Yanks have been eyeing this kid since his Sophomore year….Not sure he’ll be around when the Yanks pick though….

  24. Tar May 21st, 2011 at 4:36 pm

The Sox were rewarded with being patient with Ortiz, even after not hitting above .200 until well into June. He did not hit his first homer until mid May. Yet he finished with 28 homers and 99 rbi’s.

It’s all well and good to say that a certain player should sit.

But when you don’t have an adequate replacement, and there is a decent chance of that player rebounding, what are you accomplishing exactly?

Moves made in frustration do not win ball games.

  25. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:40 pm

But when you don’t have an adequate replacement, and there is a decent chance of that player rebounding, what are you accomplishing exactly?

    ——

Which struggling player has a decent chance of rebounding?

Swisher is the only player IMO and he can earn his PT just like he did in his first year with the Yankees.

  26. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 4:42 pm

I view Jeter as our Ortiz. He’s remaining in the lineup no matter what. The only issue is where.

  27. austinmac May 21st, 2011 at 4:43 pm

    Tar,

Posada has never hit as well as Ortiz’ best years. A decline for Posada leaves him likely short of an acceptable DH. If he could hit .260/.360/.475, that would satisfy. Anything much less diminishes the offense more than is acceptable for an already struggling team.

Jeter, AROD, Tex are all here for along time at a high salary. Nothing will be done about that. If they are, the shortfall must be made up elsewhere.

  28. Tar May 21st, 2011 at 4:43 pm

“Which struggling player has a decent chance of rebounding?”

So in your opinion Posada is done, has nothing left to offer the team?

  29. Tar May 21st, 2011 at 4:45 pm

“If he could hit .260/.360/.475, that would satisfy. Anything much less diminishes the offense more than is acceptable for an already struggling team”

What if he does that or better from this point on. Would that be acceptable?

  30. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:46 pm

    ——-

Not sure if he is done yet but he doesn’t have a decent chance of rebounding and if he does start hitting he can play more.

Additionally Po is gone after this year so they have no investment in him unlike Ortiz. Montero is the future. Po is the past

  31. Rich in NJ May 21st, 2011 at 4:48 pm

What you can’t have is three Ortiz-types, and that’s what’s going on right now.

    Plus Martin in May: .235 .371 .333 .704

It’s probably not reflective of his true talent, but almost certinaly neither was April:

    .292 .378 .597 .975

  32. Tar May 21st, 2011 at 4:51 pm

“Additionally Po is gone after this year so they have no investment in him unlike Ortiz.”

Wasn’t Ortiz coming up on an option year? I know there were calls to release him.

My point is until a better option comes along, Why sit Posada?

Montero is the future, but the future is in the future, ( :D ) until then Posada should try to get it straightened out..

  33. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Posada has been bad since June of last season. These struggles this season are not sudden.

  34. Tar May 21st, 2011 at 4:55 pm

“What you can’t have is three Ortiz-types, and that’s what’s going on right now.”

I agree, for now patience is what I think is needed. For now.

    Back to yard work.

  35. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Posada is hitting .211 since June 1st 2010.

Yankees first pick is compensatory for Vazquez at #51, then they have picks 88, 118, and 149.

    LGY,

Just curious when did Jeter’s issues start last year? I don’t know how to check that like you do.

  38. Niblick May 21st, 2011 at 5:09 pm

All you Posada haters should just shut the f@%# up, go back to your mother’s basement, and find another team to root for. You all act like you’re 16 years old and have no patience, no appreciation for the man’s contributions over 15+ years, no empathy for the fact that his son is about to undergo another operation, and no baseball sense.

  39. LGY May 21st, 2011 at 5:12 pm

    CC

His struggles started from day 1 last season. His “good” April last year was artificial. He has been hitting groundballs at a record rate since the start of 2010.

  40. Captain Clutch May 21st, 2011 at 5:17 pm

So it’s obvious that we aren’t dealing with slumps with 2 out of the 3

Oh Boo Hoo! We owe Posada nothing! Empathy? I reserve my feelings of empathy for many more people than a rich athlete. He will make do. What tree did you fall out of?

  42. Niblick May 21st, 2011 at 5:29 pm

NW: your attitude stinks. Crawl back to your sewer, will you? You don’t care about his son’s health issues? Then you’re a total jerk.

I appreciate the smack down, Niblick. Slugs don’t deserve a winning team, turning on their own. Bleep ‘em.
