Soriano sent for another MRI

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on May 24, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Rafael Soriano was throwing off flat ground yesterday and had to shut it down because of soreness in his elbow. He went for another MRI today, but results are not immediately available.

Joe Girardi said he’s more
concerned at this point, which should be obvious.

Maybe they could trade him to Columbia Presbyterian for an MRI machine.

  6. stuart a May 24th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

he will be done for the year

lucky steiiny and randy levine wanted this sack of cr-p…..

robertson and joba are fine but they need 1 more pen stud they do not have.

    no feliciano and soriano, ouch……

  7. upstate kate May 24th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

maybe Cashman does know something after all

  8. tampayank May 24th, 2011 at 4:30 pm

    should go see Dr Andrews

  9. Erin May 24th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

kate-Cashman’s looking like a genius right about now. LOL

  10. Niblick May 24th, 2011 at 4:31 pm

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

  11. hardwired7 May 24th, 2011 at 4:32 pm

According to Joe’s binder, if it’s the 8th inning, it’s time for Soriano’s MRI.

  12. RhapsodyInBlue May 24th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

    Calling Doctor Frank Jobe.

    Great signing Levine.

Just for the locker room presence.

  13. SoS May 24th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

but they need 1 more pen stud they do not have.

    Hughes to the rescue!!

He is 100 percent faaking becuase he does not have the guts to pitch in New York He must be Kyle Farnsworhless lost brother from another mother.

  15. Melk Man May 24th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

What a disaster this dude is.

It was the middle of January before he signed… did anyone even come within half of the 35 million we offered?

  16. Irreverent Discourse May 24th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

SoS – I would say Felix might be more expensive today, only because it’s prospects + money + new contract… but Kershaw would very easily cost more in prospects.

  17. mykyl1 May 24th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

    Sorry Faking

  18. mykyl1 May 24th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

He is tanking so the Yanks will cut him and he can take is 35 million to go be a stud in KC

  19. Benny Blanco May 24th, 2011 at 4:37 pm

    hey, at least its’s RoJoMo.

besides, robertson is pitching much better than soriano anyways.

  20. Irreverent Discourse May 24th, 2011 at 4:37 pm

    SoS – Sory, not +contract.. he’s signed until 2015 at…
    2012 26 Seattle Mariners $18,500,000
    2013 27 Seattle Mariners $19,500,000
    2014 28 Seattle Mariners $20,000,000

To get Kershaw would require cleaning house because you can’t leverage money against it.

  21. Erin May 24th, 2011 at 4:37 pm

BloggingBombers I have to assume the Yankees are waiting to hear what Felix Lopez has to say about Soriano’s MRI before releasing any info. #SortOfKidding

BloggingBombers Can’t wait to talk to Soriano after the game today. I want to hear if his elbow setback is also the hitters’ fault.

  22. SoS May 24th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

    *******This just in*******
Soriano has agreed to only pitch in the fall league(no a.l. east affiliates)and will only pitch week nights. Day games are too hot and theres better things to do with your time on weekends.

  23. Captain Clutch May 24th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

It looks like surgery is in Soriano’s future. I doubt we will see him again this year and I am glad Levine gave up there #1 draft pick for this nut.

  24. matt1766 May 24th, 2011 at 4:39 pm

I am sure Cashman will blame the Rays for over using him

  25. SoS May 24th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

    I.E.,
Under those circumstances. Who would you prefer?

  26. tampayank May 24th, 2011 at 4:43 pm

if you want some entertainment during the game, check out Barkley on TNT’s Heat-Bulls pre game at 8pm tonight, that was hilarious on Sunday night :)

    George: Uh-huh.

Doctor: And I find that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you.

    George: Hmm. Really? Nothing?

Doctor: Nothing that would indicate involuntary spasms.

George: Well, it’s kind of a mystery, isn’t it?

    Doctor: No, not really.

    George: How so?

Doctor: May I suggest the possibility that you’re faking?

Burnett, absolutely lights out againts the AL 20-5 or some sick number and he can’t carry his weight.

Soriano 2010, 45 saves 1.79 era and he can’t get anyone out and now he’s hurt. UNREAL….

  31. Captain Clutch May 24th, 2011 at 4:50 pm

Soriano has been on the DL basically every year except last year. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that he has arm problems. I don’t think he is faking it but the guy is an injury waiting to happen and now they are stuck with him next year.

  33. RS May 24th, 2011 at 4:51 pm

I’m more pissed about the lost draft pick than the prospect of Soriano being out the rest of the year. I’m not worried about finding a stud reliever mid-season…the Yankees have managed to do that before (Joba, Hughes, Wood).

  34. Patrick May 24th, 2011 at 4:54 pm

    Thanks for this Randy Levine

Please note I don’t believe these are possibilities, just entertaining the thought :)

  40. ABOMBAROD123 May 24th, 2011 at 5:02 pm

  46. yanks 27 May 24th, 2011 at 5:06 pm

“So which “non-baseball” guy decided to sign Andruw Jones and Feliciano??”

Basically, no one in the organization knows how to sign the right player.

Felix the Gardener might be next in line to put his defacto GM talents on display

  47. stuart a May 24th, 2011 at 5:07 pm

cashman for whatever reason was against the signing but the steinnys and levine needed to make there usual splash so they signed a malcontent j ass… for mega money when he had no market for that type of money.

cashman has been dealing with these meddling baffoons for years. arod 10 year deal etc.

cashman wanted CC at any costs but many of the other deals like derek he wanted to hold the line… obviously he knows a lot more then those other fools………

  48. West Coast Yankee Fan May 24th, 2011 at 5:08 pm

  49. UnKnown May 24th, 2011 at 5:09 pm

I don’t see Cashman blaming the Rays at all. He knew it was a bad signing and is just sitting in his office laughing his butt off about it.

Strictly a money play by Soriano. He got his and now there is nothing anyone can do with him.

  50. stuart a May 24th, 2011 at 5:09 pm

andruw jones signing is fine. he sucks who cares he is getting paid arods tip money and has a 1 year deal. to compare jones or colon or garcia’s contract to jeters or soriano’s is like comparing a job at mcdonalds to being the ceo of GE, no comparison………

  51. Captain Clutch May 24th, 2011 at 5:09 pm

If the Yanks or actually Randy Levine was willing to lose their #1 draft pick then Scott Downs was by far the move to make. Even though he is older he is really good and doesn’t come with that injury history. I was also surprised that the Yanks didn’t look into Rauch. I always liked him and considering he signed for nothing it made a lot of sense. But obviously an always injured guy with a 2 era was sexy to Randy Levine.

  52. Yankee Trader May 24th, 2011 at 5:10 pm

    I.D.-

You mentioned in an earlier post that you could think of 5 better offensive 1st baseman than Teixeira. My list would include:
    Pujols
    Cabrera
    Gonzalez
    Votto
    Konerko
    Howard
    Fielder
    and perhaps Gaby Sanchez

  53. stuart a May 24th, 2011 at 5:10 pm

yanks would love if soriano opted out but there is zero chance soriano opts out.. NADA..

    no chance fool……..

  54. ac1 May 24th, 2011 at 5:10 pm

i believe feliciano was a good signing in theory.
he was durable and never on the DL.
He was overworked, but so was CC before he came here and he didnt end up on the DL.

  55. Wave Your Hat May 24th, 2011 at 5:11 pm

“Hughes-Sorryano-Feliciano. Marte is done for the year!”

    Marte was the punch line. I can’t tell a joke… ;)

    Just looked over Soriano’s career…

    2006 – 60 IP
    2007 – 72 IP
    2008 – hurt
    2009 – 75 IP
    2010 – 62 IP
    2011 – hurt

  57. ac1 May 24th, 2011 at 5:11 pm

Soriano will not hurt the yankees in the future.
if he plays great, if not, he sits on the DL.
His 35 M while ridiculous, will not stop the yankees from signing whoever they want (as long as they want to come here).

  58. Yankee Trader May 24th, 2011 at 5:13 pm

    WCYF-

How did Longoria know that ball was heading their way. Batter yell “FORE?”

  59. Irreverent Discourse May 24th, 2011 at 5:14 pm

YT – I didn’t bring that up, the babbling idiot I was attempting to correct did.

    Konerko? Really?
Votto has to show he can do it more than once
    Fielder is borderline

Teixeira just isn’t as bad as he’s being made out to be. There’s a reason he goes as a top5 1B in fantasy baseball, it’s called a track record.

  60. Mell May 24th, 2011 at 5:15 pm

If those ratios on Sorryano hold up, he should be good for 65-70 innings the next 2 years, then buyer beware!!

  62. Wave Your Hat May 24th, 2011 at 5:16 pm

Four months ago suggesting the Yanks maybe shouldn’t have signed Soriano caught you a lot of grief around these parts. Where are all the Soriano boosters? They need to start posting more.

  63. Irreverent Discourse May 24th, 2011 at 5:17 pm

Can we wait until Soriano has surgery before we write him off for the year? Some of you are beyond ridiculous, it’s amazing you get through an entire day without assuming the moon is gone.

Konerko’s been a better offensive player since the beginning of 2010, but Teixeira’s track record is clearly superior.

Well start defending him then. The man needs some defenders. But I can’t say, if you researched my old posts, that I thought it was a good idea at the time.

As much as I disliked Griffey Jr. for holding a gun to Seattle(going public) and making them trade him to Cincy. I have to respect him for hanging up the gloves mid season.
    ————————————–
Jr didn’t really hold a gun to the Mariner’s head, he and the team worked it out so he could go home. Even though the trade was in February, 2000, he knew before the end of the 1999 season he was leaving (I played golf with him in San Francisco before his last game that season-in Oakland, and he told us that).

Jr is a really nice guy, he had a great career that, without injury, would have most likely put him in the Top 10 of all time players.

  70. LGY May 24th, 2011 at 5:22 pm

The Soriano signing was an awful idea from the start.

  71. hardwired7 May 24th, 2011 at 5:25 pm

I think Ken Griffey Jr. is still very close to being an all-time top 10 player, considering he dominated in his era while being one of the only clean elite players.

Both offensively and defensively, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

  72. LGY May 24th, 2011 at 5:26 pm

Soriano has a history of elbow and shoulder problems.

He has never been healthy three years in a row. He was healthy in 2009 and 2010.

Hmmmm…I wonder what happens in 2011.

  73. Yankee Trader May 24th, 2011 at 5:27 pm

White Sox have 6 starters-Buehrle, Floyd, Danks,Humber, Jackson, & Peavy. Probably Jackson or Danks might be moved to the bullpen-maybe Humber although he’s been their most effective starter. Danks a lefty, is 26 and currently 0-7 with a 4.34 ERA.

Any interest in acquiring him for the rotation as 2nd lefty and having Colon move back to the bullpen, maybe as 8th inning guy if Soriano out any length of time? Joba for Danks?

  74. SoS May 24th, 2011 at 5:31 pm

    MG,
I was referring to the situation where Cincy and I believe Atlanta was going after him. Cincy was upping the anti with Pokey Reese if I can recall and others. Griffey came out and said he would only play for Cincy and Cincy pulled Pokey out, dropped their offer knowing ATL was out of the race. I cant remember how I heard all this transpiring. I could have it all wrong. My brothers hero was Griffey and I never let him live that situation down. I will feel really bad if all of that story was bogus. He played Single A ball at the town I grew up in and I watched him play. There is no doubt he would have had the Homerun record if he didnt break down physically.

  75. Doc Iac May 24th, 2011 at 5:31 pm

    what does tht trade do?

danks right now is less than colon, so its a downgrade

and its not like joba is pitchin bad out of the pen

the yankees dont need to trade for a 3rd-5th starter, its either a 1 or 2 or save ur prospects

  76. austinmac May 24th, 2011 at 5:32 pm

    Yankee Trader,

I have argued for awhile to get Danks. His value might be lower now. A second lefty, especially against the Sox would be great.

  77. stuart a May 24th, 2011 at 5:32 pm

danks is a good pitcher, fairly young an affordable.

they would want a ton for him………..

SoS, Jr is a friend of one of my best friends. I hosted him at my golf club in SF and he couldn’t have been nicer to our members-he signed a bunch of things, bought about a $500 driver from our pro, and was just a pleasure to play golf with-he hits the ball really well and has a terrific short game. The best part for me, though (outside of playing really, really well), was seeing him order matzoh ball soup as part of his lunch after the round lol

I never paid attention to the machinations around his departure from Seattle but he clearly wanted to play in Cincinnati-he’s a real family guy and wanted to watch his kids grow up.

I believe the White Sox will look to move Jackson, if anyone, who is a free agent after this season.

They likely recognize that trading younger, effective, and relatively cheap lefty starters like Danks isn’t wise unless you have to.
