Tarp coming off the field (first pitch scheduled for 10:30)

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jun 09, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The crew just came out to start removing the tarp.

Still no word on what time first pitch might be, but at least there’s some activity. Tonight’s NBA Finals game is on the big screen.

UPDATE, 9:35 p.m.: Still no time announced, but the tarp was just pealed off the field.

UPDATE, 9:39 p.m.: First pitch scheduled for 10:30.

Hang on, I’ll go ask Pete if he knows what time first pitch will be.

I would start your search at the closest hot dog cart.

I wish CC would put a fastball in Dwayne Wade’s ribs.

    Woops wrong sport

May not have to, Wade going out, but that probably won’t be for that long.

I’m reading on twitter that pete abe has been blocking yankee fans

  5. LGY June 9th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Ledger_Yankees Cashman says Whelan, Mitchell, Warren, Phelps and Kontos would all be considered for the pen, as far as in-house guys goes.

“I’m reading on twitter that pete abe has been blocking yankee fans”

maybe he thinks it’s the yankee fans that are blocking his arteries ?

  7. Dj June 9th, 2011 at 9:38 pm

I hope the game starts soon. Even though it was a debacle, I’m glad I went yesterday night and got to see some baseball instead of having to leave to get home.

As HL Mencken once wrote, “The function of the press is comfort the afflicted, and afflict the comfortable.” Pete seems to be a modern day practitioner of that art.

Love that movie. Nobody as good as Tracy in those movies and Gene Kelly played a great Mencken part in the movie as Hornbeck, the reporter from baltimore. “Inherit the Wind”

  9. LockDown June 9th, 2011 at 9:40 pm

    Hmmm… So I guess it’s still on

  11. Laura - I Bleed Blue June 9th, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Game starts at 10:30pm. NYY/BOS games usually last 3.5hrs. Yeah, good luck with that. :)

  12. Pat M. June 9th, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I know that the rain delay is a bummer for my East Coast Brethren, however for those of us on The Coast this is a delight…..Almost like a game out here as I can eat without zipping through my meal…..Hey Doc Joe, loved the HL Mencken reference…..

  13. Joe from Long Island June 9th, 2011 at 9:43 pm

GB – that is one of my all-time favorite movies, going back to my youth when I saw it on TV. I just loved the story line. Probably shaped my views on life, for better or worse ;)

  14. m June 9th, 2011 at 9:44 pm

Can’t help but think Wade’s exit was an covert assist to LeBron.

  15. Joe from Long Island June 9th, 2011 at 9:45 pm

For us Eastern Time Zone sorts, this kind of stinks. CC vs Beckett – it don’t get much better than this. Well, hopefully I can catch it on Yankees’ Classics.

  16. m June 9th, 2011 at 9:45 pm

I don’t care if this game ends tomorrow, I want a win.

  17. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 9:47 pm

NESN reporting game to resume at 10:30pm !!

  18. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 9:48 pm

not resume… but you know what i mean

    first pitch at 10:30pm

  19. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 9:48 pm

    that kinda stinks

    i really need a good night’s sleep.

how about a nice 7 run lead by the 5th Yanks so I can get to that?

  20. Bronx Jeers June 9th, 2011 at 9:49 pm

Now all you West coasters will feel the pain of a late night start.

    Oh wait….

  21. Laura - I Bleed Blue June 9th, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Clearly, they feel that they have to get this game in. There are already too many rained out games to made up. Who wants to add another one?

BOS is probably pissed. They fly to TOR after the game. I hope they land at 6am. LOL!

  22. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 9:53 pm

“BOS is probably pissed. They fly to TOR after the game. I hope they land at 6am. LOL!”

    ————

as long as they land on their as*es after the Yanks smack them around tonight, they can arrive in toronto whenever they want.

  23. GreenBeret7 June 9th, 2011 at 9:53 pm

joe, it was a great movie. The lines that Tracy, kelly and March had between each other were fantastic. TV did a remake back in the late 70s early 80s with george C. Scott and Jack Lemon playing WJ bryan and Clarence Darrow parts. Not quite the same, but, still good.

  24. GreenBeret7 June 9th, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Venditte blows the 1-0 lead in the 7th with a 2 run homer.

Betances with 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. 6 ground outs, 4 fly outs

  25. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 9:56 pm

    Dellin!

    that’s how it’s done.

  26. Pat M. June 9th, 2011 at 10:01 pm

Yanks game will the late game on the schedule tonight…..

  27. Wave Your Hat June 9th, 2011 at 10:02 pm

    Venditte had been pitching well.

  28. GreenBeret7 June 9th, 2011 at 10:04 pm

Warren through 8 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. 89 pitches, 63 strikes. with a 10-1 lead, he should get the 9th inning, too.

  29. bruceb June 9th, 2011 at 10:04 pm

Ridiculous starting the game at this time of night. What about all the parents with young kids who bought tickets to this game? Would much rather have seen it added on the off-day before the final home series with the Sox in September.

  30. ac1 June 9th, 2011 at 10:07 pm

bruce, im sure the yankees will say if you turn in your unused ticket, you can get tickets for another game. they’ve been doing that all year when there are weather issues.

  31. beedogs June 9th, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Are you serious? STARTING a baseball game at 10:30 PM?

This is complete and utter bullsh!t.

  32. bruceb June 9th, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Wasn’t going myself…just thinking of others! Too late for me to stay up until the conclusion, which will probably be around 2.30am.

  33. Carlo June 9th, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Forget the parents with young kids. The Yankees will make amends and give tix to another game to those who waited it out. If ur any kind of yankee fan, you want this game played tonight. We have 1 ace, he is pitching. If we played it in september, he would face them 1 more time at home this year. Now chances are good he faces them twice. Small edge, but its an edge. Advantageous for us to play tonight, not in a 4 game september series.

  34. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 10:10 pm

the one thing i worry about is the umps having a huge strike zone to speed up the game. beckett is hard enough to hit right now with a normal zone (though CC would have the same advantage.)

i doubt they want this to turn into a 4 hour marathon.

  35. GreenBeret7 June 9th, 2011 at 10:11 pm

Warren completes the game, 9 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. 105 pitches, 74 strikes

  36. LGY June 9th, 2011 at 10:11 pm

    Carlo with the right attitude!

  37. NYY fan in NH June 9th, 2011 at 10:12 pm

I’ve never seen so many injuries on this team. Not just the Yanks, but all over baseball. Joba’s a huge loss. Hughes return and succeeding is needed, but not guaranteed. I have no idea how Cashman is going to handle this, but either a gold nugget falls into their laps from the farm or they go out and get a big name player, if one’s available.

  38. LockDown June 9th, 2011 at 10:13 pm

Sounds good Carlo, problem is the yankees have yet to score a run on Beckett

  39. bruceb June 9th, 2011 at 10:13 pm

    Carlo

I’m a fan who wants to watch the game but has to be up at 6am to go to work so cut the crap.

  40. LGY June 9th, 2011 at 10:13 pm

    CG Warren? Nice!

Who is the last Yankee minor leaguer to throw a CG?

  41. JobaTipsHisCap June 9th, 2011 at 10:14 pm

    3am game over?

Nobody’s forcing you two dimwitted trolls to watch the game. Go change your diapers and have mommy warm up you ba-ba.

  43. Carlo June 9th, 2011 at 10:15 pm

Bruce – so am I (a fan) and I have my alarm set for 545. The weekends are for sleep.

  44. Nick in SF June 9th, 2011 at 10:17 pm

There’s no drug testing for fans.

  45. Carlo June 9th, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Lockdown – doesn’t matter what we did against beckett. I like beckett vs cc better than beckett vs anyone else in our rotation and their rotation has more firepower anyway so the longer the series, the more we get exposed.

  46. Triple Short of a Cycle June 9th, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I don’t understand what the need is to get this game in. Its not like they don’t come back here

  47. BD (Boston Dave) June 9th, 2011 at 10:18 pm

@KenDavidoff #RedSox wanted to send Buchholz ahead to Toronto for tomorrow’s start, but his flight got canceled.

    boo hoo!

  48. bruceb June 9th, 2011 at 10:19 pm

I’d like CC for the opening game against the Indians and a good night’s sleep!

  49. Triple Short of a Cycle June 9th, 2011 at 10:21 pm

Does it usually take an hour to start after the tarp comes off?

  50. Triple Short of a Cycle June 9th, 2011 at 10:21 pm

    bruceb

    + 1

  51. Carlo June 9th, 2011 at 10:23 pm

How bout this…….rainout means one less game for jeter to hit 3K at home. Anyone think that is influencing things?

  52. JobaTipsHisCap June 9th, 2011 at 10:24 pm

actually I’d say Sux wanna play tonight, not Yanks, for obvious reason.

  53. LockDown June 9th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Carlo, I hope we can get to Beckett tonight. It’s getting old to have there be a “Pitcher X” be the guy who shuts us down on any given year.

CC is a better match up for him I agree. But we have to score. Not really interested in using CC as the sacrificial lamb against Becket 6 times this year. where the best thing CC can get is a ND if he pitches scoreless.

    Game about to start.., c’mon offense… c’mon CC… c’mon defense…

  54. Pat M. June 9th, 2011 at 10:26 pm

GB….You have your game face on I see !!!! I will be watching the Red Sox next time they come to NYC, Friday night 9-23-2011….I’m thinking the Yanks will put The BoSox to rest that weekend and cruise to The AL Eastern Division and secure home field……

  55. Chad Jennings June 9th, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Game post is up. Thanks for sticking around everyone.

  56. Yankee Trader June 9th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

    PatM-

Maybe you’ll see Felix Hernandez pitching for the Yankees in September!

  57. Carlo June 9th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Lock – agree, we have to hit him. I’ve seen enough of the struggles against him this year already and its June.
