Payback in the Bronx

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jun 10, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Yankees got their revenge when CC Sabathia drilled David Ortiz in the fourth inning. Ortiz got his revenge when he led the Red Sox to a seven-run seventh inning that buried the Yankees in an 8-3 loss at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox have won eight of nine games against the Yankees this season, and they’ve swept back-to-back series in the Bronx. Ortiz had never been hit by a pitch in 697 regular-season plate appearances against the Yankees, but Sabathia hit him after Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were hit by pitches earlier in the game. At the time the Yankees had a 2-0 lead on Curtis Granderson’s two-run home run. The Yankees led the American League East three days ago. Now they’re two games behind Boston.

No, payback would have been hitting a batter and taking them out of the game. Hitting Roid Ortiz in the butt is not nearly enough.

Disgraceful effort – looks like Girardi has lost this team

  3. Daniel in Toronto June 10th, 2011 at 1:47 am

I would like some type of explanation from people about why exactly they would be in support of keeping Girardi at this point.

Let’s consider his 4 years here.

2008: We missed the playoffs. There were a lot of problems with that team that had nothing to do with him (poorly constructed roster, injuries), but let’s face it: we didn’t miss the playoffs from 1995-2007, and the first year he took over the team we missed them.

2009: We won the World Series. One of the most enjoyable Yankee teams in recent memory. They looked awful for the first few months of the year, but from that point on were absolutely unstoppable. It’s questionable, though, whether or not they had any legitimate competition that season. This was clearly Girardi’s best managerial effort with the Yankees.

2010: We lost in the ALCS. Everything seemed to carry over from 2009, including Girardi’s adequate (if not excellent) in-game managing… until around the beginning of August, when Girardi started managing the team as if he was intoxicated. I will never forget how consistently angry I was (and many others were) with some of the absurd decisions he made. It felt like he cost us A LOT of games, which hurt, as we lost out on homefield advantage in the playoffs. His drunken managing continued in the playoffs.

2011: This team looks DEAD. D-E-A-D. DEAD. They are lifeless. They should be embarrassed. Much like 2008, this team has a lot of flaws that run far deeper than Girardi. HOWEVER, his drunken managing has continued. I’m convinced that he leads the league in “What the $*$!?” managerial decisions. That is, he leads the league in doing things that makes even the casual fan wonder what he’s thinking. Also, there is something to be said for motivating your team… He can’t seem to do it. This continual “Oh, it’s a long season….” garbage is embarrassing.

I suppose my overall point is that Girardi hasn’t really done anything to warrant keeping his job. Yes, we won in 2009, but we failed miserably in 2008, and he’s been drunkenly managing the team since about August of last year.

Aren’t managers hired TO BE FIRED? Clearly, you don’t fire the BEST managers in the game (if you’re lucky enough to have one). Girardi simply isn’t a good manager. He would not be the first manager to be fired a few years after winning a championship, and wouldn’t be the least.

Anyone that can’t see that change is needed really, really needs their eyes checked.

  4. Captain Clutch June 10th, 2011 at 1:47 am

Changes have to be made to this team. It won’t happen until the gm can admit that there is a problem and unfortunately it seems like he is in denial.

  5. vinslol June 10th, 2011 at 1:48 am

I’m just disappointed that if we’re going to rail a guy, why the designated hitter?

hit someone who has to feel it on the field, I won’t go so far as to say hit their best player like AGon but

  6. Daniel in Toronto June 10th, 2011 at 1:49 am

    Also, a final observation:

Is it possible that Joe Girardi knows some sort of horrible, deep, dark secret about someone in the Yankees organization? He inexplicably has a “YANKEEOGRAPHY”, which is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever heard of. And then his best friend’s son gets drafted by the Yankees in the supplemental round of the MLB draft… and virtually everyone wonders why (as it seems like he could’ve been picked later in the draft).

    I’m clearly joking… But seriously. It’s weird.

  7. CB June 10th, 2011 at 1:49 am

Right now the Yankees have a line up where there are three hitters with plus bat speed: Granderson, Cano and Teixeira.

And that problem is even worse than it appears because so far this season Cano has been missing in action with his control of the zone. And Teixeira has a poor swing plane which negates his hand speed.

So in effect, they have one functional hitter with plus bat speed in the line up.

That is a big, big problem.

  8. RS June 10th, 2011 at 1:49 am

    This is encouraging news

“In three starts against Reading — the top hitting team in the Eastern League — this season, Betances has allowed two runs on eight hits while fanning 25 over 17 innings.”

Betances is dominating his best competition and also all of AA so far…hopefully he gets promoted to AAA soon, maybe if he’s still pitching well by the ASB

  9. Captain Clutch June 10th, 2011 at 1:51 am

Of course everything goes bad once Swish and his ice skates falls on his face. I am so tired of him already. He isn’t a good enough player and hasn’t earned the right to be an everyday player when he hits .220 and plays dreadful defense. I would love to know what the manager is waiting for to give Dickerson a chance against righties.

  10. Tyler June 10th, 2011 at 1:51 am

    RS-

I know that walks have been a problem for Betances and Banuelos so far this year. Still, both ahve very impressive ERAs.

  11. G. Love June 10th, 2011 at 1:52 am

I’ve given Cashman a lot of grief over the years here, but I really do believe he will come up with a plan to fix this team.

Once Jeter’s 3000th is out of the way, he will step on all kinds of toes if the team continues to play like this.

I even think he may pull a shock trade and deal someone people would never consider he’d deal to change the face of the club.

I have a feeling Cashman has been putting together his recommendations and he’s going to act as soon as the bit of Yankee history is out of the way and Jeter gets his due for the great accomplishment.

If I were some of the younger guys without long term deals on this team I would not be surprised to be in a different uniform by the end of July.

While I agree that Girardi isn’t a great manager, I don’t see them pointing the finger at him. I think they want to let him rub a clubhouse w/o Posada and perhaps Jeter before they decide if he is the guy they want going forward.

Cashman ended Bernie’s run here. I won’t be surprised to see him act similarly with others.

I hope he fixes this. It may not be fixed by the end of the season, but he should be considering some very large changes in my eyes.

  12. LockDown June 10th, 2011 at 1:52 am

Time to bring in the big gun… let’s trade Girardi for Ozzie, he’ll get us fired up lol

  13. MS June 10th, 2011 at 1:52 am

Back to back sweeps at home to the Pink Sox=UNACCEPTABLE.

If this were the Red Sox getting swept at home twice to the Yankees, a couple of coaches would lose their jobs and a couple of players may be DFA’d or released. If this organization has any guts whatsoever, these types of changes are made first thing in the morning.

  14. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 1:54 am

in yankee math that is payback. they hit 4 or 5 guys this series sweep the yanks but hey they hot bib poopie in the thig with a pitch. they should have a parade to celebrate the accomplishment. first time the guy has been hit against the yanks in 160 games..

chad appears as stupid as much of the media..

again chad how about asking the real questiosn like what the hell do they do with JETER? you think when he hits his 3012th hit and has a sub 350 slugging % people will give a crap???

Chad and the other fools who were outraged that cashman actually uttered test the market what do yo uthink now einstein?????????????but they give you this line, jeters chase for 3000 will mean so much extra dough for the yanks, that is bull. if they lose a bunch and do not make the playoffs that will cost them a ton of moolah………………………..

now kim jones with her uswual drivel… blah blah blah.

please get rid of andruw jones give me that at least………..

  16. Bronx Jeers June 10th, 2011 at 1:55 am

The Sox have to be feeling pretty good about themselves. That was sweep and a half with the Yanks coming in off a good trip out west.

There’s always the 0-8 start from 2009 but somehow you always had the feeling that that team just needed to turn the corner.

With the age and health issues this team’s got some big holes to fill. Might need a backhoe to fill em…regular shovels ain’t gonna do it.

  17. Kevin Not That Kevin Brown June 10th, 2011 at 1:56 am

I just don’t know what the answer is, not just this season, but in the seasons yet to come.

As we learned, painfully, from ’01-08, just going out and buying free agents doesn’t work.

Our farm system seemed top-notch there for a while, but suddenly: we can’t even field a decent starting five with prospects, have not had a major-league ready catcher for several years, and have no decent infield guys ready to move up.

    How did this happen?

  18. G. Love June 10th, 2011 at 1:56 am

This is not the product the Yankees wanted to put out this season. With the prices they charge and the attendance softer than usual, this kind of product is going to have a tough time selling after Jeter hits 3000.

The changes are coming. I don’t think it’s wishful thinking.

But some of you are going to flip out when you see what these changes are and you most likely won’t like them.

They have a top 10 farm system. Top 5 in some eyes.

I think some of that is going to be dealt for younger talent that fills holes on this team now and in the future.

  19. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 1:57 am

    ozzie is an idiot….

so is randy levine and andruw jones and rafael soriano.

but hey eric hcavez will be back soon.

arod and jeter will sneak out of the back of the clubhouse tonight, they may be pissed the game ran long so they can’t pal around with there red sux buddies.

wow we showed them they hit the fat guy in the thigh, wow that is a fair tradeoff.

  20. G. Love June 10th, 2011 at 1:57 am

The Yankees just erased the significance of the West Coast trip. They went from 6-3 to 6-6 in their last 12. It’s pretty horrible.

  21. West Coast Yankee Fan June 10th, 2011 at 1:58 am

Typical Girardi on the YES post-game interview a minute ago, another lifeless, heartless, these things happen, we’ll come back, it’s a long season bull-crap session.

  22. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 2:00 am

btw the yanks minor leaguers in general terms are running on all cylindars. only guy really performing poorly is brackman. most of the other guys are doing more then fine…………..

get rid of sanit, jones, cervelli(minors), 1 or 2 of the placeholders in the pen( the guy from texas) and actually try to get better. move out some of the older slop……………………………………………..

hallelujah jorge is hitting 202, he is only 10 pts behind nicky boy.

nicky will not have his option picked up and that is a good thing……

    get younger PLEASE………….

  23. RS June 10th, 2011 at 2:01 am

This offense is going downhill for a couple reasons:

    1. our leadoff, #3, and cleanup hitter all went from being .300 hitters a couple years ago to batting a collective .260. That’s a combined 1200 points shaved off of the most important spots in the lineup. I’m not even mentioning Cano, because I’m at least somewhat confident he’s not going to sit at .260 for the remainder of his career.

    2. Just look at the construction of the lineup. the 2009 team had Cano batting 7th and Swisher 8th. This year’s team has Cano 5th and Swisher 6th. Enough said.

    3. this kind of ties into #1, but the combination of Jeter/Granderson is not getting on base at nearly the same clip as Jeter/Damon from a few years ago. that puts much less pressure on pitchers when facing the middle of the order.

  24. timmyb72 June 10th, 2011 at 2:02 am

This team looks old, tired, not fundamentally sound, bullpen and the rotation are real, real messes right now. They have a AA Catcher playing everyday now that Martin is hurt. They need at least 1 more SP, hopefully Hughes is the answer, I would give Noesi a shot, if not at least give someone in Scranton a shot, they need to bring up at least 2 legitimate RP’s, Norton was going to be one of them but now he’s hurt again, bring up Montero or even Molina, it’s time to send Nunez back down for Vazquez or Pena. Some changes have to be made. Someone needs to sit down Gardner and teach him how to run the bases. This team is coasting right now and getting old in front of our eyes.

  25. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 2:02 am

einsteins girardi cannot tell the truth morons. this is not football.

you expect him to say the truth; jeter is a shell of himself and I wish either him or management came to me and said no problem batting him 8th, and yep cano is stupid and needs to concentrate more, or man why can’t cervelli throw a damn ball the the base, or i cannot believe we have aj on the books for 2 more years.

is that what you want him to say…………get a brain……

  26. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 2:05 am

jorge vazguez is the answer…. you guys believe i nthe tooth fairy also.

montero, laird, guys like that are realistic options.

so we are down on nunez!!!!!a athletic talented 23 year old shortstop. you are insane………………………………..

  27. LGY June 10th, 2011 at 2:09 am

Matt Kemp is probably the only hitter that fits this team’s needs who is set to become a free agent in the next couple years.

  28. timmyb72 June 10th, 2011 at 2:11 am

Everyone has praised Kevin Long for the last few years, and he’s been seemingly treated like he was a God. Is it time to start looking at getting a new hitting coach, are they starting to tune him out? Sometimes players need a new voice, a new set of eyes, many of the Yankees are hitting well below what they have in recent years. I realize age is a huge factor with the Yankees as this is an older team, and as you age your hand/eye coordination goes and your eye sight and bat speed slows down when you get older also, but is K-Long a problem also? He’s seemingly helped Grandy this year but he’s the only one that’s hitting better than he did last year and part of that may be that he was injured and adjusting the Big Apple last year. Thoughts?

  29. Captain Clutch June 10th, 2011 at 2:11 am

I wonder if CC would consider leaving NY after this year. Considering how much age is on this team, unless Cashman makes a big trade for a #2 stater and signs Reyes or Fielder this team is definitely not set up to win the next couple of years.

  30. j9d June 10th, 2011 at 2:11 am

Glove I agree they will address these issues and am hopeful the changes will make an impact this year. I’m not so sure my hopes are realistic, though. We shall see.

CB, bat speed issues to be sure. But do you think that is Swisher’s issue, though? Gardner’s? Just curious because i would not have guessed that.

  31. LockDown June 10th, 2011 at 2:14 am

    G. Love,

You make a good point about keeping Girardi around to see how he handles the clubhouse once Posada is gone. He’s had a tough job. He can’t even write up a lineup card w/o hurting people’s egos.

Mo is quiet, but Jeter & Posada are definitely the old guard who have a lot of power in the clubhouse.

I think the fixes are mainly the obvious ones: LHR, SP (if we find one), maybe upgrade swisher, jones.

In the off season: They wont resign posada…. then comes the changes…insert Betances (banuelos waits another yr)

Cashman may do something big. But nothing as shocking as DFAing posada or benching/trading/DFAing Jeter

  32. Bronx Jeers June 10th, 2011 at 2:14 am

I’ve given Cashman a lot of grief over the years here, but I really do believe he will come up with a plan to fix this team.

    ——————————–

I don’t doubt that he’ll do everything he can to help the team but on the other hand I think he’s got his eye on the door. He can’t really build the team he wants.

I think there’s some serious issues brooding in the front office. The king is dead and everybody’s in back-stab mode.

    Read your Shakespeare.

  33. Pat M. June 10th, 2011 at 2:15 am

Get Nuenz in the lineup and give Dickerson some starts……Hopefully Martin can get back into the lineup soon….This club didn’t resemble the same club I watched during the West Coast trip….I think they were shocked in Tuesday night’s first inning and never really got untracked……As for Cashman, will he even be here come November ???? Let’s see how they respond in the Cleavland & Texas series……These are the best ballclubs in the AL The Yanks are facing during this homestand…….Another morning where I can’t bare to read the sportspage no less even watch ESPN or MLB …….Wow just ugly, Yanks at home a real struggle

  34. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 2:16 am

i love that yankee fans scour the free agent market on a daily basis for who is available in 2 years. like the teams that control studs like kemp will not sign them or 2 years is like next saturday. alot can change in 2 years. maybe the yanks can actually use there very very well stocked minor league system first before they try to purchase older more epxensive declining players. just an idea……

they have to move jeter down in the order even if that means batting gardner first….

they need to bring up montero, play him against lefties and at catcher a couple times a week. see what he can do. if he struggles send him down for more seasoning, that is called a bump in the road. not have 3 can’t pitch when it matters guys in the pen. try whelan, kontos whomever.. not sure who has the best stuff but marquez and sanit and the guy from texas who throws 88 are not legit relief pitchers.

get hughes back asap…. start there. if swisher continues to struggle try dickerson against righties but realize he is a journeyman. i know 1 thing he cannot hit lefties at all.

get rid of andruw. he is slow, has many bad ab’s, gets taken out for a fielder late anyway….young means energy……..they need energy……………

    try something

  35. stuart a June 10th, 2011 at 2:18 am

if CC has outrageous demans after the season let him walk. the guy is fat and 30 +. is he real good? damn right but over 30 year pitchers with mucho miles on them are high risk…..

if CC wants to continue at the same deal he has keep him else adios… you think any team will give him 7 years?????no friggin chance……….

  36. j9d June 10th, 2011 at 2:18 am

It almost sets up the second half well when you think about it. Underdog yanks can’t beat the sox. You never know.

  37. Tar June 10th, 2011 at 2:19 am

    Ow that hurt!

No, not getting swept ( that just sucked)

It was getting hit by the piece of sky that fell.

Where were all these doomsday posts after the West Coast swing?

This is a veteran team (going through a spate of injuries) that just got embarrassed at home.

    They will respond.

And yes Cashman is going to make some moves. That was obvious before this series.

Losing Joba hurts, but I still think the Yankees are a better team than the Sox.

  38. j9d June 10th, 2011 at 2:21 am

And CC needs some help. He can’t always be the must win guy. That has to take a tremendous mental toll.

  39. RS June 10th, 2011 at 2:23 am

“There’s always the 0-8 start from 2009 but somehow you always had the feeling that that team just needed to turn the corner.”

True, but remember Sabathia, Tex, Burnett, and even Arod were complete unknowns at the time as far as being clutch. We THOUGHT they could turn it around, but were still doubtful. At least with this team there’s that track record of having done it before – embarrassing the Sox and then rolling on to the WS. But maybe the comfort of having done that is why Girardi sounds so complacent…

  40. MannyBanuelos June 10th, 2011 at 2:23 am

This team is a gutless fraud!

  41. Chase June 10th, 2011 at 2:26 am

This team has absolutely no heart. I just got home from the Bronx, and in that 7th inning I told my brother what was about to happen, and it did.

Nobody puts up quality at-bats and they looks as if they have no pride at all, and have to competitiveness to them.

    It’s really hard/sad to see.

  42. ElMaestro June 10th, 2011 at 2:26 am

This is the team with most runs in the majors. Stop blaming the offense for this.

I understand we are all upset because the yanks are playing poorly against the Sox (who seems to play flawless against us), but this team needs pitching. I agree that the lineup needs a tweak or two (Jeter can’t continue hitting 1st), but the problem now is a lack of a starter and some bullpen help.

  43. MannyBanuelos June 10th, 2011 at 2:29 am

#1, no they don’t have the most runs in the majors.

#2, piling up runs against garbage bullpens doesn’t impress me. They were DESTROYED by good pitching.

  44. ElMaestro June 10th, 2011 at 2:35 am

“#1, no they don’t have the most runs in the majors.”

Most runs per game, works for you? They made 6 runs the day Super Lester was pitching, and they had multi run leads against Felix and Pineda. So stop blaming the offense, and saying they were DESTROYED, because that is not true.

  45. ElMaestro June 10th, 2011 at 2:36 am

    Oh, 4 runs… My mistake… Anyway.

  46. MannyBanuelos June 10th, 2011 at 2:37 am

    Nine, but who’s counting…

  47. jacksquat June 10th, 2011 at 2:38 am

Who’s the best short relief option in the minors right now, Whelan? Have to make that move right now, they have two good relievers and slop.

  48. Pat M. June 10th, 2011 at 2:40 am

That 7th inning Texeria almost came up with the ball on his dive to the line that Swisher was thinking about throwing out Ortiz at 3rd….Problem was that he never fielded the baseball….All hell broke loose after that…Tough to watch that as CC was cruising to that point….Cano’s weal AB with the bases jammed was the turning point though…

  49. MannyBanuelos June 10th, 2011 at 2:40 am

Whelan or Kontos. Doesn’t matter. This organization will just keep signing garbage, scrap heap players or utilize cast offs sent to them by other teams (Sanit, Marquez, Carlyle, Logan, Pendleton, Ayala). Of those, only Ayala has any semblance of skill.

  50. RS June 10th, 2011 at 2:50 am

How about we get McCutchen, Clippard, and Melancon back? And Ian Kennedy too :(

  51. j9d June 10th, 2011 at 2:51 am

Pat M, it was painful to watch swish play that ball and no doubt it was a turning point Tex almost had it too.

Other folks who are calling the team a fraud and gutless: these ups and downs are what baseball is all about. If you don’t tie your very identity to whether the Yankees win or lose you will enjoy the season much more. You never know. That’s what makes it fun.

  52. timmyb72 June 10th, 2011 at 2:52 am

The lineup is very poorly constructed right now also.

#1. Too many key hitters are past their prime, and on the downside of their careers and the drop off has been worse so far this season than anyone expected. Jeter, Posada, A-Rod who 2-3 years ago were at or above their career averages are all well below their career average this year.

#2. The 2 corner outfielders (a position that normally is a high avg, and power position is neither). Swisher who had a promising year last year is well below what he did last season as is Gardner. You can’t win consistently when your corner OF’s have OPS’s in the .660 – .720 range. Normal OPS for an AL corner OF is at least .800 +. Would like to see Dickerson get more AB’s vs LH pitching. Swish and/or a AAA pitcher may have to be traded to get a legit RF with more consistent contact ability. Getting 2 corner OF’s in the trade market is a pipe dream but they are needed imo.

#3. Martin is proving to be what he was in LA. He got off to a great start, MVP of the first 50 games, but has cooled down considerably hitting .245 and is still the best option at C but is now injured and that was an issue in LA also, he was injury prone. But after being an All-star level player he has really regressed.

#4. No real leadoff man, and real #2 hitter. Boston has the best #1 and #2 hitters and #3 hitters for that matter in Ellsbury/Pedroia/Gonzalez in MLB, high OBP, great speed, good base stealing threats at the top, great contact hitters, and power, everything that the Yankees lack. Jeter is a #8 or #9 hitter right now, not a lead off hitter. His OBP is way down, no real SB threat, hits into way too many DP’s, Granderson is an ideal #6 or #7 hitter imo, he strikes out way too much for a #2 hitter, doesn’t walk enough, isn’t a great contact hitter, low OBP, Teix is an ideal #5 hitter imo. He doesn’t hit for a high enough avg to be a #3 hitter, not a good contact hitter, has great power but no speed on the bases, and strikes out too much to be a legit #3. hitter.

#5. Gardner is not a starting corner OF imo. He should not be playing fulltime for the Yankees imo, he is a great #4 OF, defensive replacement, or pinch runner. He’s a legitimate Gold glove winner in LF but his bat does not translate to being a starting corner OF, and his baserunning instincts are horrific.

#6. They need a younger/better DH. The DH should be Montero, or Chavez when he returns. Posada does not have the bat speed anymore and/or temperment to be a DH on a championship ball club. Way past his prime in a spot where you need consistent power and RBI potential.

#7. They need better protection for Robbie Cano. He needs to be in the #3 hole where he has Teix and/or A-rod behind him or a better DH or Granderson plugged in behind him to give him protection. Pitchers aren’t giving him anything to swing at and pitching around him and when that happenes he gets frustrated and goes back to his bad habits of swinging at too many pitches out of the strike zone.

#8. They need a better bench. Cervelli isn’t a suitable BU catcher at this point in his career. He is awful defensively, has no power whatsoever. Chavez was great to have on the bench, Laird or Vazquez would be nice to have on the bench also as would Montero as BUC imo.

Those are the issues right now with the offense in a nutshell. This team won’t really improve until drastic changes are made, ie, moving Jeter down in the order, getting a legit leadoff man, getting protection for Cano, better bench players, and an everyday LF and RF instead of Gardner and or Swisher imo. Cashman has a lot of work to do, but will he and the org be able to make those changes before it’s too late?

timmyb72…You make some valid points, but even after this 3 game debacle The Yanks are 1 game behind the hot BoSox in the loss column….These next 7 games vs AL Division leaders will speak volumns…..

I just can’t find the energy to get upset about the losses with the yankees being so close to 1st place. I am more interested on what changes will happen over the next month – month and a half.

I agree Pat, but these last few games show a team trending in the wrong direction. Much work is needed.

Whatever happened to SJ44 and his remarks, truly I am interested to hear what he has to say about this team. But hey, I love the Yankeeography that is the jeter and posada ab’s on a nightly basis …

I returned home from work after having to leave when the game was tied. I looked at Chad’s headline and thought, Wow! We won?” It certainly didn’t feel like we were going to when I had to leave and I was right.

Chad, you got my hopes up with “Payback in the Bronx” only to have them squashed. True payback would have included beating the Sux, not just nipping Ortiz’s fat backside.

The team is a mess. And Girardi is either in denial or is completely over his head in how to work with these veterans. And they know it.

    Pat M,

I honestly don’t want to hear anymore what their record currently is in comparison to the other teams. If the Sox hadn’t started out with 8 losses, just imagine what the record would look like ow. But while they’ve been getting their act together, this team has been falling apart and looking like they don’t give a crap to boot. It’s very disheartening to even watch them play.

This team is never going to go anywhere in the playoffs, and as we all know, it’s all about winning the World Series.

    timmy,

I have to ask the question: Does Cano even warrant protection? He’s been playing like the old non-chalant Cano we were all ready to bench just a while back. I’d still like someone to find out what’s up with the guy this year. It makes me angry that folks are still voting for him on the All-Star team. He’s no All-Star. One good year does not an All-Star make. You can at least understand how Jeter’s getting votes (based on his long history), but CANO? Come on…
