how many times will useless Gardner get thrown out today?

  2. Crawdaddy June 12th, 2011 at 11:54 am

    Trolls to go.

  3. Rich in NJ June 12th, 2011 at 11:56 am

    May: .301 .379 .373 .752
    June: .318 .400 .409 .809

There are about three other hitters in the lineup who should be as useless as Gardner.

  4. GreenBeret7 June 12th, 2011 at 11:56 am

TY, just read your Marshall and Heredia game reviews. Great stuff. Thank you.

Gardner will be thrown out on the bases the same number of times that Jorge Posada is. :)

How about a couple of stem cell shots in the right location for Bartolo?

    GB-

Was Noesi called back up? Which of the 3[Mitchell/Phelps/Warren] is likely to start Thursday?

If Noesi hasn’t pitched since last Tuesday I think they should start him tomorrow against the Indians and just move everyone else forward to cover Thursday without using one of those 3 against the heavy hitting Rangers. Call up one of them for the bullpen long inning man. Thoughts??

  13. Ghostwriter June 12th, 2011 at 12:07 pm

Bartolo has really made a fan out of me this year. I hope that he gets well and back to the club soon. He’s probably one of the best stories of the year..

  14. LockDown June 12th, 2011 at 12:09 pm

Glad to see Dickerson in & Sanit gone. :D

I just don’t believe in Griardi at this point. He’s being made out to be a bad @rse cuz he yelled at the Indian’s manager. Bottom line is if Teix hadn’t gotten riled up then Girardi wouldn’t have said anything. He came out there to keep Teix from getting into a fight and ejected. And that’s when Girardi got fueled.

Where was he when his guys were being plunked by the RS? Sure we could get into a dodgeball match, hitting players, ours getting hit, ejections, then bullpen continues to play the game etc… But if Joe come out from jump and got into an argument, bench clearing etc on day 1, maybe Joe gets ejected, then things would be different.

Not saying that the guys shouldn’t police themselves, because I think they should. But a lot of this stems from girardi too.

He has this laid back mentality. He comes across as Papa Joe. This whole team seems to take on the his “ok we lost, but it’s a long season blah blah blah” .

    RANT.OVER :D

Glad to see Martin is in

Colon has been great -especially pitching with pretty much one pitch-the fastball.

I’m quite pleased that Gardner and Posada are hitting. However, I really wish that they would stop giving away outs on the basepaths. I can live with getting thrown out because of an aggressive approach. However, recklessness and stupidity are not good reasons to be gunned down. Brett’s attempt to steal third yesterday, and Posada’s efforts to lead the league in triples are exhibits A and B.

    ——

It was both Posada and Gardner’s fault. It wasn’t a suicide squeeze or something. Po has to pay attention to the play and not venture off so far from 2B.

Everything is rosy right now with Boston although their ecosystem is very fragile and vulnerable particularly the rotation and pen.

Another key injury to their pitching staff would be catastrophic.

I see a few possible candidates. Not wishing fateful thoughts for our good friends in the NE just speaking in terms of reality as it actually is.

The trolls should enjoy themselves while it’s still possible.

Lackey, Wakefield, Beckett not sure which one will go down first.

    Ghostwriter-

Gardner would have probably stolen 3rd, had he at least waited until the pitcher released the ball!! I’d like to know where the Yankees rank in the league with RISP, because they need to be aggressive and try and manufacture runs rather than relying on the homerun. Seems like a lot of homeruns, especially lately, have been solo shots.

  26. GreenBeret7 June 12th, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Trader, I’d only be guessing, but, i think that it might be Mitchell getting the next recall. Noesi and Dickerson got the recalls today. I’d give the texas start to Noesi, but, quite likely they’ll go with the raw rookie. I prefer a pitcher with the sinking fastballs and grounders to the Texas team in NY. They seem to like noesi’s long relief ability to hold the score.

  27. RhapsodyInBlue June 12th, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Posada has been running the bases like this as long as I can remember.

    Always mental errors.

Nothing new. It will never change.

At least he’s beginning to hit.

“AJ is erratic as heck, but he has had a pretty good year for us…”

Last year on this date, his ERA was 3.72, and he had a terrible year.

He is what he is, a league average starter at best.

Just shows how much can be done with good command of a fastball…he can go 2 or 4 seam and locate it where he wants. And he throws strikes! That’s what the training program should teach our young pitchers before worrying about secondary pitches IMO.

    ===========================

If a baserunner is going to steall third with only one out in the inning, he has to be sure that he is going to make it. Gardner was out by close to two feet yesterday. I like Gardy a lot, but that was a pretty awful effort, IMO.

For all the BB and total bases that the Yanks generate, I don’t think that the Yanks get enough baserunners, which retards their run production efforts. They would be much more productive if their team BA was about 10 points higher.

  33. GreenBeret7 June 12th, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Obviously it wasn’t a suicide squeeze since the runner was on second base. Posada got the sac sign and as usual, Gardner botched the bunt when he didn’t even make contact on a perfect pitch to bunt. Posada’s job was to run….Gardner’s job was to make contact. You may need to find another true love in your life.

  34. Rich in NJ June 12th, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Gardner has a limitations, including sac bunting. It’s about time Girardi stopped asking players to do what they can’t do, even if they should be able to do it.

Rhapsody at 12:12 – that’s the best description of things in Boston.

Everything’s great, as long as everything’s great and everybody’s healthy. But, just as easily as Colon went down, as Joba was found to have a torn ulnar collateral ligament, so to can Beckett’s spinal injection wear off, or his condition worsen; or Lackey’s elbow act up again; or Ace’s back lockup, as it did for the Yanks last year. Never mind who can suddenly go down with the dreaded hamstring injury.

Competitive athletics can be very fickle.

It’s like Kitty always said: The fastball is the best pitch in baseball, because you can throw it to all four corners of the strike zone. I really miss Kitty in the broadcast booth–he was the best.

While I want the Yankees to put a rope on Jorge so that can hold him back, I actually want Gardner to be more aggressive (except do wait for the pitcher to throw the ball!). He needs to get his confidence back and put pressure on defense. I have no problem with him getting thrown out if defense is going to pitch out twice in a row.

  39. GreenBeret7 June 12th, 2011 at 12:27 pm

The pitch was a straight fastball at the knees. Perfect to bunt. He appears to be disinterested in fundamentals…like he can’t be bothered. Don’t blame Posada because gardner screwed up a simple task.

    GW–

I’ve also been amazed at the late movement Colon gets on his pitches this year. he really would be in running for Cy Young if he gets enough starts. Like getting a second ace in a trade.

  44. BoJo June 12th, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I actually like Flash when he is teamed with Lorenz…Bob brnigs out a personality from him that seems to be lacking with Kaat.

I’m all for aggressiveness. I can live with getting thrown out if you’re forcing the defense to make plays–more often than not, that will yield dividends over the long haul. It’s the silly plays that bug me…

There have been a few dumb ones…agreed. Hopefully it was due to indecision and timidness and that goes away with more success.
