Jeter gone for at least 15 days

Posted by: Brian Heyman - Posted in Misc on Jun 14, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

This really wasn’t a surprise judging by the concerns Joe Girardi brought up, but Derek Jeter has been placed on the 15-day DL. Ramiro Pena is the corresponding roster move.

It’s raining by the way, now at 6:23. The tarp is on the field.

Update, 7:01: We aren’t going to start on time. But they are about to take the tarp off.

Update, 7:08: The approximate start time will be 7:40.

I thought they sent down a pitcher for Pena…

Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 5:56 pm

Francesa interpreted Cash’s comment about Po the same way I did.

    ————

Cash should have just said Posada is an emergency catcher at left it at that.

  3. Jerkface June 14th, 2011 at 5:58 pm

I thought they sent down a pitcher for Pena…

They would have if Jeter didnt get DLed

  4. Purenyyankee June 14th, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Should send Cervelli down and bring up Molina. Cervelli is a disgrace.

  5. LGY June 14th, 2011 at 5:59 pm

    Rich

What did Cash say about Posada?

  6. Warning Track Power June 14th, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Smart move. Now go get treatment and see you in 15 days.

    Next!!!

  7. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Ian_OConnor Jeter had his greatest team moment — World Series MVP — at Shea. Might as well have his greatest individual moment at Citi Field

  8. blake June 14th, 2011 at 6:00 pm

“They would have if Jeter didnt get DLed”

Ah….now send down said pitcher and get Montero!

  9. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Raise your hand if you seriously didn’t think Jeter would go on the DL.

  10. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Ian O’Connor is smitten with Jeter. NTTAWWT

  11. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 6:00 pm

At least Jeter’s 3,000th hit will bring some excitement to citifield. The Mets should thank the Yanks for that.

  12. LGY June 14th, 2011 at 6:01 pm

Time for Nunez to show us what he has.

    Huge opportunity for him.

  13. G. Love June 14th, 2011 at 6:01 pm

    m,

I’m raising both hands. I’m stunned he didn’t force the front office into keeping him active while hurt. He’s done it before. Maybe things are changing this season.

  14. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:02 pm

What’s with the clamoring for Jeter to get the Big One at Citifield? If it happens it happens, but I think he’d prefer to do it at home.

  15. Bad Scooter June 14th, 2011 at 6:02 pm

    All the whining for naught.

  16. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Ah….now send down said pitcher and get Montero!
    —————–

If you heard Cashman’s interview on the wfan today it’s obvious that isn’t happening anytime soon as long as Martin doesn’t go on the DL

    LGY June 14th, 2011 at 5:55 pm

    Huh?

Nunez is the SS for now. Not Pena.

    *******

    Huh? Huh? Huh?

Peña is not going to play? A-Rod won’t sit, or Cano?

  18. D-Man June 14th, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Nunez can raise his trade value exponentially with a .340 streak during these next 15 days.

    Please don’t hit .200 instead.

  19. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Maybe if Nunez proves he can handle SS and hit, they can trade him for a young SS who can field and hit. Oh wait…

  20. LGY June 14th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

Huh? Huh? Huh? Peña is not going to play? A-Rod won’t sit, or Cano?

    ——

Whoa testy. Not a good look.

So you think Pena and Cervelli will start at least one game together?

  21. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

    Right move.

    Heal up quick, Jete!! :)

  22. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

We all knew this wasn’t a day to day thing. The front office indulged him by giving him until 6 o’clock.

No big deal from what I can see. These guys want to play, but they’re not going to selfishly hurt the team. Even I could hear the sarcasm in his “we play short everyday” comment.

And to indict Jeter for something that didn’t even happen when others have hamstrung us before to keep their non-DL streak alive is…well…I’ll just leave it at that.

Hopefully, the weather clears up and CC leads us to the win.

  23. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

Does this mean Girardi still has one of his two rolie polies?

  24. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:05 pm

AndrewMarchandRT @AdamRubinESPN: Derek Jeter, 6 hits shy of 3,000, would be eligible to come off DL on June 29 — two days before #Yankees at Citi Field.

  25. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Joba_62 At the airport, headed to Pensacola. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers, i will do my best to keep you all up to date!!

  27. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 6:08 pm

What’s with the clamoring for Jeter to get the Big One at Citifield?
    ————

Right now it looks like it would be citifield or Cleveland. If it can’t happen at YS, citi is obviously the 2nd best place.

  28. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:08 pm

m- totally agree with your 6:05 post. I couldn’t believe some of the comments I was reading. LOL

  29. Tom in N.J. June 14th, 2011 at 6:08 pm

  32. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Can the team put some soap in towels and get a few whacks in on Cervelli already?

  33. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:10 pm

    Captain Clutch,

I see what you mean. I hadn’t looked at the schedule.

Who knows, maybe Jeter will be rusty when he comes back? ;)

  34. Nick in SF June 14th, 2011 at 6:11 pm

Jeter could be eligible to come back sooner if they backdate the DL stint to 2009. #jeterhatercaricature

  35. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:12 pm

    Betsy,

To be quite honest with you, many people said things especially in the last thread. And when I wrote that post it was mainly in response to G. Love.

Sorry that you took it that way.

  36. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:12 pm

Joba_62 i will try and send pics of everything before and after the surgery. Also don’t forget to vote for the fellas into the all-star game!

  37. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:13 pm

And basically, G. Love was the only one to raise his hands. But not surprising. G. Love has always been forthright. :)

  43. UnKnown June 14th, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Eric Byrnes says the Giants should put the Panda Sandoval at the Catcher position when he comes off the DL. Seeing how he came up as a catcher I like that idea for the Gigantes.

  44. RhapsodyInBlue June 14th, 2011 at 6:27 pm

What would happen if Nunez and the Yankees go on a tear in Jeter’s absence?

  45. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:27 pm

lol, Rich. I’ve never heard of a woman requesting a mirror in a vag birth.

And why would you watch someone else’s? Isn’t kind of awkward afterward? ;)

I must say. Hospitals would make a killing selling blind folds to men in the delivery room. They would have me at hello.

  49. Tom in N.J. June 14th, 2011 at 6:30 pm

  52. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:32 pm

KenDavidoff Since 1996, the #Yankees are 1414-941 with 2 ties (.600) when Derek Jeter plays and 82-53 (.607) when he doesn’t.

What would happen if Nunez and the Yankees go on a tear in Jeter’s absence?

Not likely to happen but if it does, he’ll be back in the lineup the first day he is activated. Some things in life are constant. Derek Jeter is one of them.

  56. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 6:36 pm

YankeesInk Jeter: “I haven’t made my living on the disabled list.” Soriano: “Que?” Marte: “Que?” Pavano: “Whu?” Chavez: “LOL!”

  57. m June 14th, 2011 at 6:37 pm

WOW. I’m really laughing at your expense right now, Rich. That’s pretty funny. Did they show it over those fancy drinks that can get past the blog’s filter?

Actually, I feel bad for you. No man should ever be put in that position to politely watch someone else’s birth.

Sometimes I think that men wish it was like it was in the fifties. Stay in the waiting room.

  81. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 7:12 pm

    mel,
Your kids will like those movies. They are both hispanic films. Action, suspense and a good story. Look them up. Pans Labrynth got an A from critics. Thats the only reason that I even knew about it and watched it. The devils backbone was by accident. They said on the notes that it was the same director guillermo del toro(same guy who made blade ll), so I went ahead and saw it.

Looked up your movie and the previews had this lady eating dumplings for 4 minutes. Gotta say, it made me hungry for food rather than the movie.

Prufrock, on Francesa’s show, it is he who interrupts the interviewee usually when the latter is about to say something of value.

I know, and the Sox never put their big guns up there when they play the Rays like they do with us.

Sure they do in the playoffs and it still doesn’t help Sux. Unfortunately, the RS Killer Garza is now in Chicago.

Jeter is the epitome of the type of ballplayer the Mets need but are too stupid or bitter to realize.

Thank Yankee Fem. Sorry I missed your reply. Do the prices of tickets normally drop as one gets closer to the game? I’m looking t going to Cleveland to see a couple of games.

  117. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Stoneburner should be a starter once he is healthy. I figure Heyer will go back to Trenton’s pen.

Better move fast on those Citifield tickets…I think they are going ot get expensive fast.

  119. BoJo June 14th, 2011 at 7:43 pm

I won;t be surprised if the crowd is about 80% Yankees fans at Citi for those games. If I am a Mets fan, I’d probably take glee in soaking the Yankees fans for my tickets…and I wouldn’t want to be there when Jeter hits 3K in my home team’s park.

  120. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 7:44 pm

comet, no worries. I was just kidding. Prices will rise or drop, depending on the demand. I would think in Cleve., there would be a surplus. So, tickets would drop. Games are also weekday which always makes tix cheaper. However, I would guess if Jeter is near 3,000 some Yanks fans would make the trip.

I don’t pay too much attention to them, but they all seem obsessed with the Yanks.
