Lineup update

Jorge Posada has been moved to first and Mark Teixeira will be the DH. No announcement yet on Derek Jeter, but Ramiro Pena has a locker, so maybe that’s an indication.

Crap. Why weaken the infield unless Tex’s toe is bothering him?

    Anyway, go CC!

  3. ac1 June 14th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Is Phelps the best of the Warren/Phelps/Mitchell trio?

  4. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

    I don’t think it’s a big deal.

  5. Jerkface June 14th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Is Phelps the best of the Warren/Phelps/Mitchell trio?

Short term, probably. Long term I like Warren the best out of the 3.

Warren-Phelps-Mitchell in that order for me.

  6. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Dammit!! Did Posada throw another fit so he can play first base?

  7. willwill June 14th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Nunez is an upgrade over jeter

Ever thought you would believe that? Tis true

  9. West Coast Yankee Fan June 14th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Warren, Phelps and Mitchell, yep, that’s the answer.

  10. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Nunez might be an upgrade over Jeter, but he may also be a downgrade. He’s boom/bust.

  11. m June 14th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Had to turn it off. Fans are more idiotic than Kay.

Swisher-Cervelli-Nunez for Reyes? Why would the Mets want that?

  12. Warning Track Power June 14th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

yankees might play with 1 man short tonight out of respect for Jeter.
the team might allow Jeter one day to feel better before placing him on the DL
just because Pena has a locker does not mean a move has been made.

  13. dan l June 14th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Michell is the better choice…he has the better secondary stuff.

As I was watching Cervelli’s antics behind the plate last night; the way he pauses and looks around before picking up the ball that he just blocked at the plate, the way he shakes his fist after a good play or strikeout, the pronounced way he deliberately takes a few steps away from the batter before throwing the ball to third after a strikeout….and I was thinking “who the heck does that in the major leagues” (i.e. acts like a little leaguer)..

and the name that came to mind was..

    Jose Valverde …

he’s our watered down version of Jose Valverde….

  16. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Just put Martin on the DL already. He could use a week of rest, and then a few rehab games to get his swing back as he looks totally uncomfortable at the plate

Bring Montero up and let him catch Phelps on Thursday, who he’s been with all year

Obviously the Yanks are going to give Jeter time to plead his case for not going on the DL like he always does. It’s nice that Jeter and Posada call the shots because Cash and Girardi don’t the balls to stand up to the veterans.

  33. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

DanBarbarisi Yankees won’t decide on Jeter-to-DL until 6 pm. They don’t want a repeat of last year’s nagging calf injury with A-Rod.

JoeAuriemmaYES His concern is that he doesn’t want to feel good next week and have a full week off if he goes on the DL.

  34. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

“I smell a long losing streak coming”

    I smell a troll.

  35. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Jeter is trying to force their hand about the DL. Sweet.

  36. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

    Cash is on Francesa.

  37. m June 14th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

I don’t think Jason Kidd waited 17 years to get a bracelet.

  38. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

BryanHoch Yankees will meet with doctor at 6pm to decide on Jeter DL. Might be out as few as 6-7 days

There should really be a 7 day DL for all injuries not just concussions

    Ledger_Yankees Girardi says #DJ3K won’t affect decision.

  39. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

I hope the Yanks put Jeter on the DL. The bench will be too short if he is on the roster and can’t play for a week. He will have zero range with a leg injury like last year when he tried to play with one.

  40. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Now we know why Jeter continues to bat leadoff v. RHP.

  41. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Ledger_Yankees Yanks’ upcoming road trip to NL parks may complicate matters.

BryanHoch “He understands it will take at least a week” – Girardi on Jeter

  42. Bad Scooter June 14th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

What don’t you guysunderstand? Pena will be activated today. Doesn’t mean Jeter is going on DL. Could be Jeter or could be a bullpen guy.

  43. Pat M. June 14th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

It’s enjoyable to read this blog when it’s dominated by posters with diversified yet keen insight….It’s when the game starts that things go south quickly…….Bounceback game for The Bombers as well as CC Sabathia…..

  44. Jerkface June 14th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

omfg they can’t carry around a commemorative jeter statue in the dug out for a week. They can’t play 7 games with 24 guys. Put him on the DL and make sure he is healthy. Being cautious with leg injuries is better than not.

  45. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Well, if it’s a bullpen guy and it’s Logan, it might make sense to leave Jeter on the roster.

  46. jacksquat June 14th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

If it’s going to be at least a week, then what is the delay? No question he should go on the DL.

  47. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Ledger_Yankees Meanwhile, Pena is getting recalled one way or the other. Whether it’s for Pena or one of the pitchers ( there are 13) is still undecided.

Ledger_Yankees Jeter has expressed concerns to Girardi about being put on DL; doesn’t want to sit around for a week if he’s ready in a week.

  48. Bad Scooter June 14th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

If he’s out at least a week DL him. Then he’ll definitely be ready to go in 15.

  49. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Cash: Martin, similar situation to Jeter, also doesn’t want to go on DL.

  50. Jerkface June 14th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Well I’m glad the players don’t want to go on the DL, now how about management show why they are called that and manage the players

  51. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Francesa, ask about Montero. Or epic fail.

  52. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

“Cash: Martin, similar situation to Jeter, also doesn’t want to go on DL.”

Martin is about 10 years younger and at least they have a credible back up at SS. They have none at C.

  53. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

    Montero is next option.

  54. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Ledger_Yankees Phelps being considered for Thursday’s start but Girardi says they may not make a call until Thursday night.

  55. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Since when has going to the dl been the players decision? Thanks Johnny Damon!!

  56. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

He’d bring up Montero if he’d play everyday.

  57. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Won’t bring Montero up unless he is going to play every day.

  58. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Molina would sub for Cervelli if he went down.

  59. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

BTW-that should be Wednesday night, not Thursday night. Unless maybe that’s what El Nino is here for!!! ;)

  60. jacksquat June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

    DL them both!

  61. m June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Thinks Joe might go with Noesi if he makes it to thursday.

  62. willwill June 14th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Cashman would say he’s not ready or some BS answer, he so wants to trade him

  63. Erin June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

JoeAuriemmaYES Joe just wants to give Tex a DH day today. This is a big stretch for the Yanks.

  64. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

    jnorris427 Josh Norris
Romine not in the lineup. Is eligible to come off DL though, I believe.

    Yes, he is eligible.

  65. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

As close as Martin is to the DL, he would be called on his BS pretty quickly, so I doubt itl

  66. m June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

“Not going to bring up Montero to sit on the bench”

  67. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Cash says Jorge can catch. Okkkk…

  68. Crawdaddy June 14th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

“Well I’m glad the players don’t want to go on the DL, now how about management show why they are called that and manage the players”

Thank you! Cashman even stated on Kay’s show it’s management’s job to place players on the DL because they are incapable of making that decision for themselves because they’re wired to play through injuries.

  69. willwill June 14th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Easy then. Catch and when not…play at dh. For posada

  70. Captain Clutch June 14th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

If Martin stays healthy I don’t think we will see Montero this year. It sounds like if he comes up it’s for him to catch everyday. It doesn’t sound like he is an option to catch and DH.

  71. Jerkface June 14th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Won’t bring Montero up unless he is going to play every day.

He could play every day as the backup to Martin sjfnasknfkasmfsdmlggh

  72. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

It sounds like Cash is blaming Posada for not being an option at C.

  73. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Or maybe not. Jorge not prepped to catch.

  74. Pat M. June 14th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

    I rather see Noesi start

  75. yankeefeminista June 14th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

  76. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

He said Posada hasn’t kept himself ready.

  77. Chambliss June 14th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

I have a lot of respect for Jeter’s toughness, but in this case he needs to do what is best for the team and go on the DL. As this stage of his career, he cannot afford to play with this sort of injury.

The Yankees have been down this road many times. They need to go into “hang around mode” for two months and stay within striking distance of Boston.

By August 1st, the team will look a lot different. The pen may include Soriano, Feliciano, Marte as well as one of the killer B’s. The rotation will include Hughes, Colon and a starting pitcher to be acquired at the deadline. The lineup may include a power hitting outfielder in place of Swisher (I am sure that the price would be high, but after watching Choo this weekend, I would love to see the Yankees go after him at the deadline), and Montero should be the back-up catcher/DH at that point.

  78. Crawdaddy June 14th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

How is Cash blaming Posada when he stated on the Kay show he is an option to catch?

  79. SoS June 14th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

omfg they can’t carry around a commemorative jeter statue in the dug out for a week.

    =========

Better than the statues that we’re forced to watch play for a week.

  80. m June 14th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

Clearly, Montero’s not ready to be a major league catcher yet in their opinion. Thus more reps at AAA. Posada heating up, not going to be sitting much.

  81. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:19 pm

“How is Cash blaming Posada when he stated on the Kay show he is an option to catch?”

“He said Posada hasn’t kept himself ready.”

  85. Triple Short of a Cycle June 14th, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Martin is a much bigger deal not playing then Jeter right now. If Cash wants Montero to play every day then why was he being considered for the backup job in spring training?

  86. Crawdaddy June 14th, 2011 at 4:19 pm

  96. Triple Short of a Cycle June 14th, 2011 at 4:21 pm

    Chambliss,

Soriano is the only 1 of the 3 that might come back this year and I would put the odds of that at less then 50 percent. I also don’t want either of the 2 killer b’s up in the pen at any point

  97. m June 14th, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Because of the concussion issue, Posada is not an option at catcher.

Of course he can catch in a game if the 2 catchers ahead of go down. But we won’t see Pena before Posada back there.

“Well hows this have been a Yankee fan since 1955?

Big deal, based on your posts here, you’re not much of a Yankee fan.

Jeter – “I don’t want to go on the DL because I ‘might’ feel better in a few days”

My response – “well Jeter, we aren’t managing the New York Jeters, this is the Yankees and I’m going to make the moves that I feel make this team the best that it can be, deal with it”

Cashman’s response “yes sir, Jeter sir, may I make eye contact with you now?”

Cash trying to rationalize Joba misusage.

    ———————————————–

Of course he is because if he doesn’t it looks bad on the organization. Watch the B’s will be mishandled as well

“Yet despite all those WS since then, you are still so freakin’ negative. That must suck.”

Thank you. He’s been a Yankee fan about the same amount of time as I, yet, he sure is negative for somebody that celebrated so many Yankee WS championships.

Phil’s next outing Sunday for SI, 65 pitches. No pen for him.

    outweighing not over weighting

  125. Pat M. June 14th, 2011 at 4:28 pm

Rich in NJ…..I say that because I still think the win now menatlity over rides the logical long range thinking and planning…….Also Cashman could be elsewhere as well and there goes the model for the club’s future

  126. joeman June 14th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

coming off two + years of injury they played Martin way to much early in the season

  127. Pat M. June 14th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

Rich….I don’t agree with this thinking by the way

  128. Rich in NJ June 14th, 2011 at 4:29 pm

    Pat

Given what they have been getting offensively for most of the season from Jeter, Posada, Martin, and Swisher, winning now will be as much about upgrading the offense as the pitching.

You’re just mad because you were wrong about Molina playing all those games in April.

At least Gardner gets to lead off :)

The killer B’s should be able to pitch out of the bullpen in August/September when they’re nearing their innings limit. The only thing is you have to make sure they go into ST next year as starters so they can build up towards 200 innings.

It’s really not uncommon to break in a talented starter by pitching him in relief first. Morrow, Masterson, Oguando, CJ Wilson, Wainwright, and several other good young starting pitchers started their big league career in the bullpen.
