Watch 6-9 go about 12-16 tonight…..that would be awesome.

  2. mick June 15th, 2011 at 3:41 pm

That thought of Swisher leading off did cross my mind.

  3. Jin June 15th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

    This is a JOKE!

  4. mick June 15th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Sitting Gardy after last night is ballsy.

  5. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

A good start by Nova should silence his critics for a while, at least until his next bad start.

  6. Mell June 15th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

What is that? 7 of 8 games missed by Martin?

  7. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:43 pm

    mick

    AS opposed to brainy?

  8. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:43 pm

Apparently Jorge is in a pretty strict platoon

    LOL

  10. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

What is that? 7 of 8 games missed by Martin?

Should have DLed him. Unbelievable :x

Also despite whatever impeded A-rod’s hitting for a month, he has played really well defensively. Kind of like his 07 season which I think was his peak at the position.

  11. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

this insistence on not DL’ing Martin is weird, considering what they said about their reasons for DLing Jeter

  12. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Apparently Jorge is in a pretty strict platoon

    And Gardner…for some reason…

  13. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

“What is that? 7 of 8 games missed by Martin?”

Its crazy….if they would have just put him on the DL to start with then he’d be over half way done with the stint and they would have had an extra player these games he’s sitting.

  14. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Joba_62 Dr. Andrews is a great man, really cool, and very calming. Surgery tomorrow morning! Gunna enjoy the beach now!

  15. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Yup, Gardner and Po getting dissed today. Swish leads off over Gardner and Pena plays over Po.

  16. mick June 15th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Po is hot, so is Gardy but Alex must need a rest badly esp with a day game tomorrow.
Another lefty tmw, does this lineup happen again?
Po will play but will Gardy?

  17. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

So I coached a senior league team(13-15 year olds) many years back. I had a kid that did not get a hit for the entire season. But his on base percentage was probably at .500. He was about 4 feet tall and would crouch down like you would at a camping site that lack restrooms. He would get walked the majority of the time. I think its time for Cervy to start crouched even when hes not catching.

  18. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Even Sterling thought Po would start at DH v. the next RHP.

  19. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

I have no idea why they are platooning Gardner….especially in favor of who they are playing instead

  20. mick June 15th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Its crazy….if they would have just put him on the DL to start with then he’d be over half way done with the stint and they would have had an extra player these games he’s sitting.

    blake

    sounds like jeters theory.
might show how strongly they feel about not bringing montero up.

  21. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

I think the difference between the way they are handling the Martin and Jeter situations is that one is 10 years older.

  22. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Swish is batting like 400 vs lefties.
    that is fine.
Wish Gardner was in the lineup too.
But if Jones hits a homerun, whatever works.

  23. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

They certainly are hesitant to call up Montero for some reason…..he’s not on the 40 man but that shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I understand he’s not had a great start….but its very curious.

  24. brownies June 15th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Swisher should bunt to get on, steal 2nd, grandy moves him over, and tex hits it hard deep into the shift just far enough for swish to use his speed to run home

  25. Irreverent Discourse June 15th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Jones OPS is .200 higher than Gardner vs LHP.

  26. ant928 June 15th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

    Line up = WTF?!?!?

  27. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Jeter is 10 years older but Martin has been hurt more in his short career than Jeter ever has…..they need to be even more careful with him.

  28. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I dont think now was the time to sit Posada though.
    The guy is red hot.
My biggest peeve with Girardi since 2008 was he always sits someone as they get hot…

  29. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Whats up with Girardi deciding to sit players down once they finally start heating up at the plate(posada, gardner)?

  30. sunny615 June 15th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Girardi has got to get his nose (and his butt) outta that binder.

  31. mick June 15th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

At least Girardi is getting creative.
Out of necessity but something is the mother of invention. I forget what.

  32. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

“Jones OPS is .200 higher than Gardner vs LHP.”

What is it minus his 2 homer game…..and how many plays has he failed to make that Gardner would have?

  33. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    blake

I think that’s a reason not have played Martin so much, but a 26 year old is more likely to heal quickly from a muscle pull than a 37 year old.

  34. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Jones OPS is .200 higher than Gardner vs LHP.

He should be DHing. He might run into one but he doesnt get on base or hit for average

  35. jacksquat June 15th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    Gardner OPS vs lhp: .650

    Jones OPS vs lhp: .833

  36. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

    How many AB?

  37. 11 CF June 15th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Now that’s just stupid. Girardi needs to sober up.

  38. LGY June 15th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Two of the Yankees hottest hitters on the bench.

  39. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Usually when I trash Andrew he hits a homer…..so hopefully that trend continues

  40. jacksquat June 15th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Jones can’t DH, apparently it’s A-Rod rest day, so it’s Jones or Gardner in LF.

  41. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

    Gardner OPS vs lhp: .650

    Jones OPS vs lhp: .833

    Jones: .245 .302 .531 .832
    Gardner: .250 .364 .286 .649

I like Gardner’s defense and ability to put a good AB and get on base.

  42. Mell June 15th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

    Should have DLed him. Unbelievable

Also despite whatever impeded A-rod’s hitting for a month, he has played really well defensively. Kind of like his 07 season which I think was his peak at the position.
    ===========================

Yeah. If they had, he’d be back in about a week. Poor roster management there.

  43. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Didnt Alex DH like two days ago?

  44. upstate kate June 15th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

don’t worry…GGBG will be in the game at some point

  45. LGY June 15th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

If you are going to DH Alex why wouldn’t you wait until tomorrow’s day game?

  46. G-C June 15th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Girardi needs to stop platooning Posada based on ~25 at bats when the right side has been his best side for his entire career.

If anything, he’s DUE to explode against lefties. His RH swing is better and he sees the ball better from that side.

    Jeez.

  47. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Jones is all or nothing…..he runs into one every now and then between terrible ABs and hes closer to Thames defensively than what he used to be.

  48. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

can we stop calling him GGBG?
    Pete Abe is gone.

  49. ac1 June 15th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Jones is nothing like Thames in the field.
I haven’t seen Jones have any issues in the field this year.
Few worry when the ball is hit near him that he will be a disaster.

  50. RayVT June 15th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

On the valueless contracts how about adding these:

    Dice-K
Manny being Manny (LAD still Paying)

  51. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 3:59 pm

The problem is that Jones has been nothing like Thames offensively:

    Thames: 2010 OPS+ 122
    Jones: 2011 OPS+ 88

  52. mrpappageorgio June 15th, 2011 at 3:59 pm

Cashman – “I’d call up Montero if there was regular playing time for him”

Yeah, wouldn’t want to take the bat out of Cervelli’s hand… facepalm.jpg

  53. blake June 15th, 2011 at 3:59 pm

I didn’t say he was Thames…..I said he was closer to Thames than what he used to be defensively and he’s much worst than Gardner. He catches what he gets to…..

  54. upstate kate June 15th, 2011 at 3:59 pm

    do you prefer Gardy?

  56. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Dr. Andrews must be one rich rich man…

  57. mick June 15th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

With back to back day games, tmws after a night game, he feels Alex needs the 1/2 day off tonite.
Saturday is a 4:10 start, so make that 3 straight day games and another in Cincy, no DH’s.

  58. blake June 15th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Basically…..Jones needs to hit a lot better than Gardner to warrant playing him instead….

  59. mick June 15th, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Probably not as rich as Randy Levine, even though he contributes a lot more.

  61. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Well at least Cervelli now has an excuse to why he is so terrible. Too many games played in a row.

  62. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Wow. I can’t even remember the last time there were this many complaints about a lineup. lol

  63. stuart a June 15th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

    only issue is LF…

jones ab’s are so futile, hr or 3 or 4 swings and a K…

not a fan of his….gardner can hit lefties…

  64. upstate kate June 15th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Didn’t Swisher hate leading off for the ChiSox?

  66. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Too bad we don’t have a stud catcher in the Minors that we could bring up…

    Free Jesus

  67. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

YankeesInk Gardner just getting a day of rest.

JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: Brian Gordon not necessarily tomorrow’s starter, but will be signed for tomorrow.

  68. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

I cant believe Cervelli threw a temper tantrum and got himself out of batting 9th today. Oh and one more thing. Why is Giambi still batting 5th!!

  69. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Hopefully Swisher leading off doesn’t cause him to think he needs to drink an extra energy drink before tonights game.

  70. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

YankeesInk Yanks pleased with Hughes rehab start. Gordon will be added to roster tomorrow. Girardi will not yet officially commit to him or Noesi.

  71. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

Binder Joe, a/k/a the village idiot, strikes again.

  72. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

YankeesInk Soriano saw doctor, threw Tuesday, felt much better. Will begin throwing program in one week.

YankeesInk Jeter will not go on road with team but will rehab in Tampa with most of the guys on DL.

  73. I Am Winning June 15th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

I don’t mind line-up changes, whether you get a homer in the 1st spot or 9th spot in the lineup, it’s still a run, at least. However, putting a combination of bench players, that are terrible offensively, is not a good idea. Since when was Pena on our bench!?

Good thing is, a few hits, and a couple home runs, will give us 5 runs. Must look at the bright side!

  74. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

YankeesInk Martin “continually getting better” but still not in lineup.

YankeesInk Girardi says he sees Posada as an “emergency” guy as catcher.

  75. LGY June 15th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

WTF does Gardner need a day of rest for??

  76. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Binder Joe: “We acquired Jonesie to hit against lefties.”

  77. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: Posada is an emergency catcher and not in catching shape…he will only be used if they really have to use him.

YankeesInk Chavez update: He ran on a treadmill and “felt okay” afterward. Wow! So did I!!!

JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: Granderson’s improvement this season vs. Lefties is the biggest thing that surprises Joe.

  78. UnKnown June 15th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

So Soriano’s vacation must be over. I wonder where he went, Bahamas, Cabo, or maybe Costa Rica? I heard those are all nice spots.

  79. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

YankeesInk No comment on whether/when Jeter will play any games in Tampa.

  80. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

“Binder Joe: “We acquired Jonesie to hit against lefties.””

    That’s why I call nickname-challenged Girardi, Excusie.

  81. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Erin thats great news on Soriano. Now if he can tweet us the days he will be available to pitch and whos on his no pitch list (team).

  82. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Finding out that he still has a job each morning should be the biggest surprise to Binder Joe.

  83. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: Posada is an emergency catcher and not in catching shape…he will only be used if they really have to use him.
    __

And he’s not in catching shape because…?

  84. blake June 15th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Is Binder Joe related to Ranger Joe?

I hope Posadas reading this. Wouldnt want him to NOT BE READY this time around if his names called.

  87. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

YankeesInk Girardi says Hughes should be back in July if he continues making progress at current pace. Thinking 5-6 total rehab starts.

  88. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

I would like to add another nickname to that list. “say it aint so Joe!”

  89. Erin June 15th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

YankeesInk Girardi: “I don’t necessarily consider Noesi just a “long guy”. Will use him “shorter 1-2 inning stints situationally.

  90. REZ12 June 15th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

What’s wrong in Joe trying to shake up the lineup a little bit to get the offense going? Isn’t this what people wanted? For him to take action and shake things up rather than wait for guys to hit HRs and keep everything status quo?

  91. blake June 15th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

What was wrong with Soriano again? I almost forgot about him.

  92. m June 15th, 2011 at 4:19 pm

No, Gardner? You suck, Girardi. Just kidding. Sorta.

6 rehab starts sounds like a lot. Did his last session not count? :(

  93. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:20 pm

“What’s wrong in Joe trying to shake up the lineup a little bit to get the offense going? Isn’t this what people wanted?”

With good players, not marginal or worse ones.

That’s Jones, who is in the lineup.

Please start Noesi tomorrow. I understand Brian gave you a shiny new toy to play with, but he’s still wrapped in the box. Maybe we can try next week?

    K. Thanks.

  97. pat June 15th, 2011 at 4:20 pm

Captain Jeter should travel with the team.

  98. m June 15th, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Gardner needs to play everyday. When he’s in LF, the pitchers are calm and at ease. ;)

How is Jeter going to provide all his intangible stuff from Florida?

  100. blake June 15th, 2011 at 4:22 pm

He may have been more amenable to doing so had he not been forced to the DL when he didn’t want to go there.

  108. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 4:25 pm

Is it Posada or the Yankees fault that he is not in catching shape?

He didn’t get on the catching skype in the offseason

  109. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:25 pm

“Shiny new toy”? How about an old guy who’s spent all of his career in the minors and is now trying to learn to be a pitcher?

  110. pat June 15th, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Derek handles he is not handled.

  111. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:26 pm

He should have done the Spiderman thing with Cashman in Stamford.

  112. m June 15th, 2011 at 4:26 pm

    LGY,

Both. The Yankees told him he’s not going to catch, but he needs to stay stretched and do drills anyway. Otherwise, he just risks injury when called upon.

But I am surprised that Posada doesn’t push the issue. He used to want to catch as much as possible.

  113. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:26 pm

“Derek handles he is not handled.”

That’s true. They might as well make Jeter the manager and get more value for their money.

  114. m June 15th, 2011 at 4:27 pm

    How about a “novelty”?

  115. SoS June 15th, 2011 at 4:27 pm

I think I recall the Yankees telling Posada in ST to stay ready but don’t quote me on that.

  118. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

    Player A: .356 .438

    Player B: .299 .405

    Which one should leadoff?

  119. Nick in SF June 15th, 2011 at 4:34 pm

To properly protest this lineup, I will have an angry face emoticon ready to paste next to any potential game thread comments.

    Like this!

  120. blake June 15th, 2011 at 4:35 pm

In Jorge”s defense……catching drills suck so if they aren’t going to catch him at all then at 39 years old it would be tough to keep that up with no payoff.

  121. LGY June 15th, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Cool. Just got tickets for tonight.

Hopefully Jeter can hear me heckling him in the dugout.

Since when did Holland become Randy Johnson or Johann Santana? Are you kidding me with sitting Gardner?

I would play Gardner and at least he would provide good defense in left field; sit Jones and move Swisher down the lineup.

    Gardner
    Granderson
    Tex
    ARod
    Cano
    Swisher
    Nunez
    Pena
    Cervelli

    Player B

If “interesting” = “retarded and more likely to lose than if you just left it alone” then I’d tend to agree with the post title. Way to overreact to facing a lefty pitcher, Girardi.

    “Player B”

Against LHP, I have no problem with it.

  126. mrpappageorgio June 15th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

What’s wrong in Joe trying to shake up the lineup a little bit to get the offense going? Isn’t this what people wanted? For him to take action and shake things up rather than wait for guys to hit HRs and keep everything status quo?

    _______________________

The lineup was shook up last night with Derek sitting and Gardner leading off – it responded very well…

Now Garder is sitting and Swisher is leading off..

  127. Niblick June 15th, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Shaking up by benching two very hot hitters? Like I said, Binder Joe should be surprised he still has a job. He obviously flushed his brain down the proverbial toilet some time ago.

  128. Captain Clutch June 15th, 2011 at 4:48 pm

It’s so stupid that Gardner sits for someone like Jones. Once in a blue moon he will hit a homerun and otherwise he swings out of his shoes and it’s a stike out. Enough with this Andruw Jones experiment already.

  129. Jerkface June 15th, 2011 at 4:49 pm

    v. LHP:

    Player A: .356 .438

    Player B: .299 .405

    Which one should leadoff?

Rich are these OBP/SLG slash lines??? Put up real slash lines that make sense!!

Derek Jeter Just 6 Squib Grounders, Shallow Bloops Away From 3,000 Hits

NEW YORK—Yankees captain Derek Jeter hit a seeing-eye wormburner through the left side of the infield for his 2,994th career hit Monday, leaving him just six toppers down the third-base line, Texas Leaguers, or check-swing humpback liners short of 3,000 hits. “These last six chop singles off home plate and difficult-to-field slow rollers to shortstop are going to be hardest for him,” said manager Joe Girardi, who wouldn’t rule out Jeter grounding a ball off the lip of the infield grass and taking a bad hop off the second baseman’s shoulder as a possible route to 3,000. “Derek just needs a couple of swinging bunts and a few official scorers to mistakenly give him a hit on what is clearly an error, and he’ll join the immortals that hung around just long enough to reach this tremendous milestone.” When asked if he would take grounding the ball off the pitcher’s back foot and the pitcher not being able to find it on the field as his 3,000th hit, Jeter answered, “Yes. God, anything.”

Yeah but he’ll do it all while grinning ear to ear!

PeterBotte Giants coach Tom Coughlin and son-in-law Chris Snee at Yanks game. TC’s grandson, Dylan, 7, is honorary batboy.

    Dear GI Joe,
Please play Gardner, Andrews life time numbers are not relevant, he has stunk for last 4 years. And is no longer a GGlover. I don’t care if the players worship and admire him.

    Sincerely,

    A Yank fan

PS: if jones hits 2 home runs tonight, never mind.

  136. Jason Voorhees June 15th, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Crying over one game. Its like you get off on your own misery. Talk about overreacting…

  137. jeffc_76 June 15th, 2011 at 4:55 pm

Without looking it up, I’d be willing to bet that Gardner has better numbers this year vs. LHP than Jones, plus better defense and speed on the bases. Forcing Jones into tge lineup just when Gardner is starting to heat up because of some preseason notion that Jones was brought in to hit lefties is flat out stupid. Things change. Reasonable people react accordingly. Stubborn, foolish people, with their heads buried in their binder run Andruw Jones out there in spite of the obvious.

Now watch him hit 2 HRs. ;-)

  138. Abe Peteraham June 15th, 2011 at 4:56 pm

    * Andruw. ( backoff)

  139. Rich in NJ June 15th, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Did anyone who disliked this lineup say the Yankees were going to lose the game. Talk about overreacting…

Since when does a 26 year old need an extra day of rest every week?
