6. Mitch Moreland 1B
7. David Murphy RF
8. Taylor Teagarden C
9. Endy Chavez CF
C.J. Wilson LHP
TV/Time: YES/1:08
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 82 degrees
Umpires: Mike Everitt HP, Chris Guccione 1B, Cory Blaser SS, Mike Winters 3B
Power infield: The Yankees are starting the same infield as last night when all four hit homers, with Teixeira belting two. It was only the second time in franchise history that happened. The last time was 1939.
Brooms out? The Yankees will be in pursuit of their fifth series sweep of the season and first of at least three games at home.
He can hit, too: Brian Gordon began as a minor-league outfielder before switching to the mound for the 2007 season. He had a career .275 average with 219 doubles, 65 triples, 119 homers and 590 RBI in 1,206 games.
Update, 1:11: A catcher who can throw to second base. Francisco Cervelli has been struggling, but Russell Martin is back from his back injury and he just gunned down Elvis Andrus.
Update, 1:12: Gordon gets through his first inning in good shape, hit Andrus with a curve and that was it.
Update, 1:20: The Yankees ran themselves out of their first inning. Swisher singled and was out when he overslid third after Granderson’s single. Then Granderson got caught stealing.
Update, 1:25: Gordon’s Yankees debut will not be a no-hitter. Beltre lines a single to center with one out in the second.
Update, 1:28: Two hits but no runs in the Texas second.
Update, 1:37: Martin makes his presence felt again, two-out RBI single to center, 1-0.
Update, 1:46: Gordon has the Rangers off-balance so far. He got Ian Kinsler swinging at a 68 mph curve here in the third. It’s 1-0 heading for the last of the third.
Update, 1:59: First and second with no outs and second and third with one out and the Yankees don’t score.
Update, 2:09: The Rangers have two singles in the fourth, both on 69 mph curves. First and third, two outs.
Update, 2:11: Nice play by Teixeira on a grounder. Side retired. Gordon has given up no runs and four singles through four.
Update, 2:18: 1-0, end of four.
Update, 2:24: Suddenly, we’re tied. Walk, infield hit, RBI double by Ian Kinsler. So it’s second and third, no outs.
Update, 2:27: Bases loaded, one out for the very dangerous Michael Young.
Update, 2:30: 71 mph curve and Young pops it up to Cano. Two outs, Beltre up.
Update, 2:34: Beltre was down 0-2, fouled off two pitches, and then Gordon hit him with a 68 mph curve in the left elbow area to force in the go-ahead run.
Update, 2:35: Gordon gets out of the jam now, leaving the bases loaded after Mitch Moreland flies to center. So it’s 2-1 going to the last of the fifth.
Update, 2:44: 2-1 heading for the sixth. Hector Noesi is warming in the bullpen.
Update, 2:51: Gordon’s day is over after a one-out single. Noesi is on. Gordon walked off to a nice ovation. So far he’s charged with two runs and seven hits in 5 1-3. The Yankees couldn’t have asked for much more from a 32-year-old journeyman making his first major-league start.
Update, 2:56: Noesi gets a fly ball and a grounder. So we head for the last of the sixth.
Update, 3:04: Jorge Posada is about to become a pinch hitter on the coming road trip to the NL, so Girardi gave him a start at DH today against the lefty. Posada has shown signs of life right-handed after the 0-for-27 start and there was another one, a tying RBI double to the left-center gap.
Update, 3:13: The Rangers had first and second, no outs in the seventh. After Andrus led off with a double, Girardi wisely order an intentional walk for Josh Hamilton. Michael Young then rapped into a 5-5-3 double play. Two outs, man on second. Boone Logan is warming.
Update, 3:16: Beltre flies to deep left-center, inning over.
Update, 3:24: C.J. Wilson has been good, now 2-2 heading for the eighth after a 1-2-3 last of the seventh. David Robertson will take the ball now for the Yankees.
Update, 3:40: Wilson is at 122 pitches with two outs and one on in the last of the eighth.
Update, 3:45: Posada goes down looking, so it’s 2-2, top nine. Mariano is on to pitch. Brett Gardner will replace Jones in left.
Update, 3:52: 1-2-3 for Rivera on three infield outs. Darren Oliver will come for the Rangers.
Update, 3:56: Martin rips a single to left to open the home ninth.
Update, 3:58: Nunez bunts the runner over. A-Rod will pinch hit for Pena, but he will get an intentional pass.
Update, 4:03: Swisher walks to the load the bases. Granderson is up.
Update, 4:06: Granderson goes down swinging, two outs, Teixeira up.
Update, 4:07: Yankees miss out on a great opportunity, Teixeira bounces to short.
Update, 4:15: One-hit 10th against Rivera. Lefty Michael Kirkman is coming on for Texas.
Update, 4:23: Gardner lines a one-out single into right-center.
Update, 4:27: Beltre gets a glove on Posada’s liner, catches it and turns it into a double play. 2-2, 11th inning. Cory Wade is coming on to pitch for the Yankees.
Update, 4:34: 1-2-3 inning for Wade, who’s off to a good start in his first two games here, had a perfect inning last night, too.
Update, 4:36: Amazing, Rocky clips still playing on the videoboard to pump everyone up 35 years after the fact.
Update, 4:41: One-out walk to Nunez. A-Rod up.
Update, 4:42: Liner to short, two outs. Swisher steps in.
Update, 4:44: Pop to center. On to the 12th. Wade will remain in the game.
Update, 4:51: Impressive work by Wade, another 1-2-3 inning, capped with a swinging strikeout by Josh Hamilton. Kirkman will stay in.
Update, 4:54: Leadoff bloop single to right by Curtis Granderson, his third single.
Update, 4:59: Kirkman hits Cano with a 93 mph fastball, although Ron Washington is arguing.
Update, 5:02: Brett Gardner walk-off single, Yankees win, 3-2. They sweep the series.

Flash AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Nice throw by Martin
Nice Martin.
I wish the Yanks could/would make a deal for Mike Morse of the Nats – he would be a terrific platoon partner for Gardner in LF. Though I imagine the Nats have little motivation to move a 29-year old hitting .300 with 12 hr and can play multiple positions while making no money.
LolAndrus.
That’s what you get for turning into the ball.
Two up two down!
and thats why we need martin behind the plate
thank goodness that Martin is back…imagine what Cervelli would have done on that play
Yeah Gordon!!!
did i miss a discussion on why arod is out?
he DH’d yesterday and out today.
Is he ok?
Auspicious start!
nice inning
Wow! A real catcher behind the plate.
See Cashman, you want to play the “better players” to win games.
“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes he is,” Cashman said.
That’s pretty filthy…
Nice Start!
repost:
Why do guys go after runners to tag them. Just put the glove at the bag. I mean sooner or later the runner has to get to the bag, right?
I hope Arod is OK! But you never know … to many drugs!
Adam LaRoche is out for the year, Morse is now the Nats everyday 1b’man.
Its nice to see our Yankees be the first to hit the other teams players for once.
Just for that he earned himself immunity.
nice inning
Brian Gordon–if he stays healthy, he has a shot at the HOF…
Never mind. haha.
Nice start. I think Gordon needs a nickname “The Rookie”
Gordon said he relies on secondary pitches and location to keep batters off balance. Good plan against the Rangers.

Nice throw; hopefully Martin doesn’t have to go into traction after it.
You don’t see Hamilton take a swing like that often.
Or ever, really. Nice movement.
Lineup looks as bad as it did yesterday. Martin in for Arod basically makes it look a little worse.
Must mean time for a 12 spot.
Please pound this douche
ac1,
He has like a .076 batting avg. vs. Wilson and there is no dh coming up for awhile.
A little wildness in the first inning helps keep the hitters from getting too comfortable.
(and stealing signs and tipping location are part of the game)
As for the pitch location flap. Didn’t they accuse Alex of the same thing last season? And we joked about how it was okay when he was a Ranger?
I love me some righty Swish.
My guess is that Cashman is going to pay serious attention to Wilson’s start. After re-signing CC I think getting Wilson might be Cash’s biggest move.
Brian Gordon–if he stays healthy, he has a shot at the HOF…

Only if hes traded to the sox.
Oh, the crowd mike is so loud. Really interfering with the broadcast.
Chip,
Is he a free agent next year?
Dammit Swisher.
SMH
#@t!
Can’t make the first out at 3rd
Can’t stand CJ either. Hope we pound him.
If only Swisher would use his brain.
Aw Swish! Dang.
oh Swish…over slides the bag good job
He had the base, just overslid it.
The Yanks won’t sign Wilson.
Too old and too douchey.
How do you over slide the bag when it wasn’t even a good throw to 3rd base? What a moron…
Swisher never amazes me..SMH!
Wow just wow
Great baserunning that inning.
2 outs on the bases…
Two outs on the bases.
Jeeeez
What happened to Arod? day off or is he hurt?
Oh well. Balls hit hard, so I expect runs to come.
I guess they want to make it easy on Wilson.
Yeah, I don’t know why CJ comes off as a douche. Seems like a nice enough guy. I think it’s when he opens his mouth and words come out.
swisher swisher swisher ! you just cost tex an RBI
luis: day off. No biggie.

See Rafael Soriano.
I have no problem with Swisher or Granderson being thrown out – they are being aggressive and that is a good thing. It takes a perfect throw and that won’t happen every time.
Swish has gotta have ice skates on the way he has been sliding around this year.
Everyone has their running shoes on today. Red Bull overdose?

Cano hazing the rookie pitcher.
Chip,
We need the killer B’s to go deeper into games before promoting them. From what I hear, they have had control problems and high pitch counts.
soriano has 19 Million a year contract till 2014! WOW! AJ is gone after 2013! I am not sure about the trade

Good point about Gardner. Unless it’s situation or skill inappropriate, aggressive baseball is always my preference.
Serious I would try to deal Cano! ( I know he is the best) but if we can get ( Lincecum or Cain or Baumgartner I would do it! than we can move Jeter to 2nd Base!

Why would the Gians give up either or those players….cause they wouldn’t
For as much as Jones looks like the Joker 24/7. They must have woke him up early for the gamecast pitcure. Very serious.
El Duque: I think that’s a terrible idea. Who do you put at short to make up for Cano’s bat? Jeter’s never played second, you don’t know how he’d do there or if he’d even want to play there.
Besides, SF doesn’t deal any of those guys. Big name deals are one thing. Fantasy baseball is another.
Linecum gets to expensive maybe they would do it because they need some bats in there lineup!
Wow. Jones should be smiling. He totally swung.
Ok maybe you are right! ‘:(
Way to work it Andy!! Can we call him that?

Those things are awesome.
Guccione owed us that call from Game 1 of the ALDS on the Golson play in Right last year.
Nice ab Po.
Wow that is surprising..The Yanks are going to regret leaving all of these guys on base like usual.
Nice hit for Martin. He’s been struggling on top of being hurt.
Now that’s a real swing Martin! Back looking good.
Nice to have a major leaguer catching (and hitting) for a change.
Welcome back Marty!!
Seems like their hitting a lot better with RISP as of late. Never would’ve gotten a hit there about a month ago.
I see the jacknife on the pitch on the inside corner does not work for Nunez. :p
Nice to have Russ back!
Can we see Alex get a gold glove this year? Beltre seems to be struggling this series.
Wilson is lucky that the ump is calling that outside pitch a strike. He isn’t throwing that many strikes.
Beltre still hesitant with plays around the…. midsection.

It seems that Girardi wanted to work in Jorge since he will not be playing on the roadtrip much (except for the occasional pinch hit) due to the interleague play games coming up. The only guy he could sit, who made sense to sit, was Arod. Girardi said that he felt comfortable with Pena and Nunez taking the field for now at least.

Does Cano get the unintentional intentional walk here.
Going after him. Time for Cano to show off from the cleanup spot here.
Runs pls
Well good to see Robbie has his head up his a$$ again this year
I will call CASH
Cano is so frustrating to watch. He didn’t swing at one pitch that he could actually hit. The Rangers know how to pitch him. Up, up and then outside or down and away.
3 straight innings with 2 baserunners on, nobody out. They really should be getting more runs out of this

Good point. We seem to forget the importance of a Pitcher/Catcher being on the same page.
Pat: Martin is a really good catcher. If he could stay healthy, I’d love to keep him around for another year or two, to help mentor Montero.
Nunez’s swing is as ugly as Pena’s used to be. Pena has refined his swing, and getting results with it.
Jones should of DHed and Gardner play LF. The only reason Posada is in the lineup is because he is Jorge Posada. Cash and Girardi have to grow some balls.
And Wilson continues his Whodini act.

Not bad. The whole walk to Teagarden and the lost curve to Beltre stunk. 2 runs isn’t bad at all through 5.

Gordon will be useful as a hitter in his next start. Nice plus to have.
Nice job by Noesi considering he hasn’t pitched in 11 days.
noesi 93 fastball all day long. he has a long term future. ok to use futre starters in the pen early in there career at the major league level. get there feet wet, learn about the league and go from there.
BA with RISP killing the yanks today for a change….
Do you guys think that the upcoming interleague games had anything to do with signing Gordon, him being a former outfielder and decent hitter?
Having one of your better pitching prospects go down with an injury batting or running the bases would be pretty terrible.
Great, the same people that wanted Noesi to start are the ones praising him now.
#Imightbeconfusedaboutthedetails
Cano just walked!
Can Alex PH this inning.
Wilson getting a wide strike zone.
I guarantee Gardner would put up a better at bat there.
That’s pathetic.
getting to be that time of year to release our 4th OF
Andruw swinging out of his shoes..SMH!
Thanks for playing Jones. Where is Alex when you need him?
Verpiss dich aus meinem Fernseher Jones!
captain, that’s why posada is there today
Nice!
Posada!
There you go Po!
yay PoPo!!! i’m loving his new popping bat
Hip hip! From the right side! Yes, I said right side.
Jones sucks.
I guess it is possible for him to get a hit as a righty
I’d put Gardner in now to run for Jones
(yeah, I know)
Posada is en Fuego!! Who says he cant hit lefties.
Just needs the righty AB’s just like Po did from the left side.
Someone was pissing earlier about Jorge being in the lineup today ????
Watch Posada steal first!
Why are you going German on us Cap Clutch?

______
YankeesWFAN Double ties the game at 2. “Stop Forrest” sign successfully holds Posada at second base.
I think Wilson has at most one inning left in him….
not at you only on jones because he is a Kazmir!
Put Gardner out in left pls.
Yanks may need to think about re-signing Posada next year to be a DH/BUC/1B and bat off the bench. He looks like Ortiz last year – awful start and on the verge of released and turned around with a monster season that continued into this year as well
If Noesi can get out of this next inning clean, he might just pick up a W once we get into the pen.
Looks like Montero is never coming up
I think Wilson has at most one inning left in him….
========
Time to bring in the bench warmers.
Now it’s time to bring in Gardner for defense
Noesi faces heart of order (Hamilton)….good challenge for him
Melk Man,
I dont think that will happen. DH will be Montero/rotating the starters for half day rest come next year. This is the finale.
Get DRob up NOW!
Why is Girardi putting extra guys on base for a 24 year old?
Wilson has been getting those pitches called strikes all day. The ump squeezing Noesi gave Andrus a double because he had to throw a ball over the plate. Stupid ump…
# G-C June 16th, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Girardi is a genius!!
Wow. Walking him again to get to Young. Hope it works for a second time.
nice
Well. Well.
great job NOESI!
Once again, Girardi silently chuckles at Lohud hecklers….
um no thanks to boone logan.
go noesi, robertson, rivera.
Girardi seems to be pulling some of the right strings a bit more often lately.
Good job by Noesi!
Hectorito!
Curtis gets great reads on balls to the gap….
Att Girardi. Time to release the hounds!!
I would like to see Noesi get Colon’s next start. His stuff is impressive and he has a lot of confidence on the mound.

Right now, Granderson may be the only hitter on the team that’s hotter than Posada.
Pat M., what we’ve seen from Noesi since he’s been in NY is why I like him a little more than Nova. Nova’s going to be good, but, Noesi can get both ground outs and strikeouts. More than that, he doesn’t rattle.
A.A.D.,
I like it!
Does Robertson pitch the 8th?
Let’s not get The Legenary Ramiro Pena’s HOF plaque ready just yet. He’ll get some hits, but, he’s not getting a full time job any time soon.
CJ WIlson conducting an audition for an off-season contract offer.

He was underrated from the get-go, but I think people are finally getting it about Grandy’s reads and his overall D.
um, Robinson Cano for player of the game? Martin was a bit better with an RBI and 2 caught stealing
I would let Noesi pitch the 8th inning but I see Robertson warming up. In a tied game why not try and get another inning out of him?! Soemtimes Girardi is too quick to move onto the next pitcher.

I rooted for Jerry Kenny…what can I say? Pena looks great.
I’m sure that Girardi would rather have Noesi for a two inning stint or a couple of one inning jobs this weekend than lose him for 3 or 4 days by extending him today.
K-Rob!
DRob. Just awesome.
“Not sure we are getting into their pen….unless it is Feliz”
Feliz struggled yesterday and threw a lot of pitches. I doubt they threw him out there in a tie game. Now they may push the limit with Wilson
Dealin’ Dave
GB…..I thought that Noesi would be spot starting while Colon was out and bam, a new guy drops in and he did a good job…….Pool service, matching lavender bikini tops…..
Pat, you’re sadistic
I wonder if Arod is available to pinch hit
Alex get a bat
It would be nice if Tex could get himself out of the .250 range.
I don’t care about BA but you get the feeling he’s kind of an all or nothing guy right now.
.270 would even be nice.
seriously… Just leave him off the plane to Chicago.

I don’t care about BA but you get the feeling he’s kind of an all or nothing guy right now.

Far cry from what he was before we signed him. You could pencil him in for .285+. Now he’s a mid-200s guy.
Good job by Jones today. Now bring in Gardner for defense…
Andruw, we hardly got to know you !!! You’re gone
and offense….
Great outing by Wilson
If he is willing to take Burnett/Lackey money, I’d go after him.
So i was watching Mcgruber yesterday. I think he would call striking out 3x in a game a TURKEY. Good job Jones.
If he is willing to take Burnett/Lackey money, I’d go after him.

I’d puke for the next 5 years if they signed CJ Wilson to that contract.
Melk,
I dont think hes going to have a left arm after the seasons over. At 127 pitches.
It just wasn’t Andruw’s day. Girardi will give him another shot tomorrow.
I like Jorge taking that inside 3-1 pitch.
Pena walk off?

You don’t want to mess with Tex

I hope Arod is getting ready to hit
wonder if Mo can pitch the 10th inning if the Yankees don’t score
Aj sneaking off to prep the pie.
who wants pie?
ah Yankeefem you read my mind
Only 12 pitches. Mo has another in him, if need be.
arod needs to hit for pena, unless games over by then
If Alex doesn’t pinch hit you know something is up with his hip.
Yeah Martin!
Nice to have you back.
Nunez to bunt?
kate, it’s a-coming.
bunt and PH alex
do you pinch run for martin?
I’d let him hit here and try to get ball thru left side

Obvious Walk coming up. Still a good play. Gives swish and gets grandy a chance.
Nice job. Heeere’s Alex…
ARod coming to take first base.
Let’s go Swishalicious!
do you pinch run for martin?

Id rather have Martin crawl around the bases then to see you know who catch.
This is where Girardi’s odd decision of batting one of our worst hitters leadoff is going to come back to bite him.
Nice old lady making chicken sounds and gestures at texas
Please leave Oliver in.
Time for Swish to earn his paycheck

Ooh Oliver grooved that first pitch to Nick.
Swish is getting pie.
Come on Swish! Good eye!
Win expectancy before the bunt 72.8 %, after the bunt 71.2 %, after the walk 71.1 %. I don’t like it.
Don’t send Martin into an out at home Thompson. Let Grandy deliver if bases loaded one out

Has Grandy ever had a walkoff yet?
Now bring in the righty.

Good thing they wasted an out with bunting
*************
That is not the case. You had Grandy with the bases loaded and one out – I will take that any time.
This will be a very tough loss if it turns out that way…. Our bullpen in the 10th is mighty scary from a Yankee point of view
God this team needs to learn how to simply put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd and less than two outs in close games. They gag and whiff over and over and over in that situation.
3-1 pitch to Curtis was the one…There’s always 1 pitch per ab that you cab hammer….Give Oliver his due, bases juiced and the 2 top HR’Sguys in the league and he gets out of the jam….
granderson misses a 3-1 meatball then strikes out on a pitch two feet outside. ugh
this is why our offense can’t sustain long winning streaks
Never knew Ugh was such a popular word.
Another inning for Mo? I don’t like that…
That is the worst at bat we have seen Granderson have in a long time. He had 2 pitches to hit and the last pitch not even close to a strike. It stinks to not take advantage of situations like that.
A tough three batters for Rivera
Dill Pickler, I couldn’t agree more.
The last time Mo pitched 2 innings he had arm soreness. I don’t like this move but Girardi is scared to go to the AAA guys. That is why he should of used Noesi for another inning.
Mo’s throwing 93 right now, best velocity he’s had in a while.
Odds are he feels great. Let him go.
Hassey…comments like is why you give many of us headaches as you know not what you speak of………

Nice from MO. Really nice outing after only pitching once in about 11 or 12 days.
Mo mows em down…..
Now let’s win this game!!!!
A Cano bomb and let’s end this.
With 15 pitches, doubtful that Rivera gets a sore arm out these 2 innings.
Patricia M. – B1ow me
Let’s win it now so we don’t have to see the AAA guys next…
Ayala pitched 2 days in a row so he probably isn’t available.
Hassey…How many rbi’s for Granderson & Texeria have this season ???? It was a horse’s ass comment
Cano be patient…
Kirkman 6.91 era. I like how that sounds.
YES shows Mike Maddux a disturbing amount of times during a game. I have a feeling the director of today’s broadcast has a secret crush on him.
Thoughts?
They cannot have Gordon/whomever and Garcia back to back. It will kill the pen. Slot one of them between CC and Burnett.
Would it of killed Cano to actually take that pitch 3-1 and not siwng

the numbers will be fantastic in the end, for Tex, for Grandy, for alot of guys, but this is why our offense can?t sustain long winning streaks
I die a little bit inside every time I read “would of” on LoHud.
There’s not much left.
Now, 3 straight steals and we can go home.
Now steal 2nd!
No Gardner can’t hit lefties. Stop playing Jones over him please….
(+) 14 (-) 9 = Awful
Great. Now we have to watch Brett and his horrible reads and non-steal of Kirkman for the next few minutes unless Posada hits one in the seats.
I think Gardner should have got himself in a pickle and stretch it to a double.
Gardner should just stay at 1st base….I doubt he can read a lefty pitcher.
No, Gardner hits LRP well, as per earlier stats.

K-Wade. Nice.
Wade can go more than 1 inning.

great play by Cano and strong inning for Wade. That may turn out to be a huge pick up
Top of the Rangers order coming up.

Great job by Wade.
O.k. Yanks. Lets put the women and children to bed and go looking for supper.
great pitching…. so far so good for Cashman
So there’s the answer for the whiners about Jeter not traveling. The biggest reason is there are next to no facilities in Wrigley Field for it.
ARod batting 9th lol
Now that the inning is over. Who the hell is Wade? Did he change his name from Flores?
Who is left in the pen?
Alex has taken himself out of the lineup.
Laura Posada says Alex has a stiff back.
Wow that was an ugly AB by Martain
Wade is a reliever that debuted with the dodgers, torre blew him out, had shoulder surgery, came back with the rays AAA team, was doing real good, and instead of adding him to the 40/promoting him the rays let the yankees poach him on an opt out/release
He has a good curve and good control
I know this isn’t politically correct, but I’ll take a walk off homer.
Thanks jf. I now remember the Wade from the Rays. Cashman is doing a hell of a job plugging leaks.
mikeaxisa
Cory Wade already has more 1-2-3 innings than Rafael Soriano.
Nice ab Nuney.
Speed on the basepaths.
i think we’ll see Nunez try and steal here
Gameday shows Alex at bat. Is that the case?
you should all get back to work
Enough with them catching these liners..
Good grief.
BABIP Gods hate the Yankees today.
Nunez should steal here
The Yanks have had no luck the last couple of innings
Ugh, stay away from that side of the field.
how many line drives can we hit?
Now Nuney has gotta go for 2nd.
Nunez should go if he can get a good jump
End it Swish!
Is this where we all yell at Nunez for not stealing 2nd and call him a little leaguer?
Ayala is most likely not available. So they are down to Logan and Marquez with the top of the order coming up. Not good….
Cory Wade can go 2.
Just awful. Just such an all or nothing offensive team.
Going to be very hard to stop them from scoring this inning.
Why wouldn’t Ayala be available?
Kirkman almost lowered his era by a whole run today and is still ridiculously high.
This game is not Boone – proofed Joe. Cmon
Gordon + Wade = good roster poaching by Cashman.
Why wouldn’t Ayala be available?
——————
He pitched the last 2 days so I would think Girardi would stay away from him today.
Nunez has picked up a bad habit of not getting in front of the ball, and playing it to the side. he didn’t do that last year.
Hamilton looks completely uninterested today
Whoo!
Cory friggin Wade!!
thanks tampa
Wow. we may have something with Noesi, Ayala, Wade, and Robertson
GB, Nunez played that way in AA, but thought he was over it.
D-Wade has been very impressive. Hopefully he can become the new 6th-7th inning guy. I know it’s early but he has good stuff.
Flash and Wade in the same game. Sound familiar?
Wade has 2 really good secondary pitches to go with a not-too-awful fastball. He could be a good guy for the 7th
Fanboys on drays bay are cursing.
The game needs to be ended right here
Let’s go Granderson!!!
face,
How hard does he throw? What are his sec. pitches?
Was just looking through the Rays bullpen stats and saw that Krazy Kyle has issued just 2 BB in 24.1 innings!
The Grandy Man!
Hopefully that is the bloop we need to start things…
Now a walk-off Tex message would make all my #forentertainmentpurposesonly’s pay off.
Aj just TEX’d that the whipped cream is melting.
How hard does he throw? What are his sec. pitches?

high 80s, low 90s fastball
GREAT low 70s curve thats like 2-7 movement wise

Gardner. Fing. Owns.
Sweep!
You see that Joesph Girardi. Let the man hit lefties
and cory wade with a much deserved win
Yes!!!! A win.
Nice!!!! Yeah Girardi keep playing Jones over Gardner…
The little leaguer comes through!!!!
AJ has the look; he’s stalking Gardy.
Wait, that couldn’t have happened. Gardener? Against LHP?
Nice at bat and hit through the infield. great pitching all around for both teams and so far the “scrap heap” pick-ups have looked damned good.
So the moral of the story is Posada and Gardner hit lefties.
AJ almost took a header trying to get out of the dugout there. Wow
Yay Gardy! Will a game winning hit off a Lefty make Joe play him every day? Great win…..great series.
I thought Texas’s offense is so much more superior than ours?
Weren’t some losers here saying that calling Brett a 4th OF was an insult to 4th Outfielders? Suck on this.
He has terrible instincts on the basepaths and can’t bunt, but he’s the best defensive leftfielder in baseball, gets on base like crazy and is maybe the fastest guy in the league.
Love Gardner.
aaaaaaaaaand Jones is rendered totally useless b/c gardner is capable against lefties
gardner also would’ve had that hit by Kinsler earlier that scored a run
great win, good job to pick up granderson from his 9th inning ab, he’s been picking up the Yankees all year so they owed him that
Gardner
I’ll take it.
All the hard hit balls that turn into outs, and the game is won on a broken bat bloop and a seeing eye grounder…..Only in baseball
No more platoons in LF.
Wade looking like a nice pickup.
BoJo June 16th, 2011 at 4:23 pm
Watch Brett show Joe up by winning the game with a walk off
Granderson ended up scoring the winning run anyway.
what is gardners BA against lefties. the andruw jones platoon should end soon.
jones runs into a fastball on occassion and that is all he can do.
safe to say not that garder should not sit for andruw jones
this is why losing relievers to injuries hurts but it need to be devastating…. bullpens can be cobbled together, a good pickup here and there, add in Robertson and Mo and they can still get it done…. Cash needs to send Tampa a thank you letter for Wade
wade was good with the dodgers before torre did his thing. torre used him a ton…….
wade is at a minimum a credible option who may or may not contribute over time…..
All the RISP fail was worth it to see some Cory Wade domination and a Gritner walkoff.

Iv heard of people hacking in and changing stuff(i.e. pictures, words). Im going to need more solid proof.
I nominate Wade for 7th inning guy. He doesn’t have a great fastball but he can spot it with good command and great off-speed stuff. Nice change of pace from Robertson and Mo.
Man, that was tiring.
4th of’ers everywhere are inspired by Brett Gardner.
You really do have to give it to Cashman, he experiments a lot and oftentimes gets it right.
stuart…..Cashamn is still going to get a veteran right handhitting power outfielder….Jones is toast, and I really thought he’d be a big help in 2011
So much for Binder Joe benching Gardner and playing that superstar Andruw.
Once again, Binder Joe’s team wins depsite Binder Joe.
Flash/Wade ends up victorious for a change.
You know whats amazing?
All of a sudden this is looking like a pretty deep bullpen with a lot of reasonable options.
We only got 5 1/3 out of a starter today and still had Ayala and Logan out in the pen.
Between Noesi, Wade, Ayala, and Logan, I imagine getting to Robertson may not be as difficult as it seemed before Joba’s injury.
“So much for Binder Joe benching Gardner and playing that superstar Andruw.
Once again, Binder Joe’s team wins depsite Binder Joe”
Give it a rest. Any manager in baseball would have started Jones. He’s still got pop in his bat, and they have to give him ABs if they want to keep him on the roster.
Pat,
I can see them calling a taxi for Jones and wishing him well. How much more do they need to see? No defense and a K king at the plate.
From now on if Jones has to play he is the DH. If the DH spot isn’t open then he doesn’t play. You don’t sit someone to play a lesser offensive and defensive player. They lose too much on defense with Gardner not playing. I hope we don’t see Gardner sitting tomorrow with a lefty on the mound.
So, do we want Brian Gordon to get another start? I’d still rather see Phelps or Warren get a chance.
Chris,
I dont think pitched that bad. Plus he brings a bat to the lineup for the n.l. games. You have to give him start #2.
Chris W June 16th, 2011 at 5:16 pm
So, do we want Brian Gordon to get another start? I’d still rather see Phelps or Warren get a chance.
————
These are spot starts here. No need to bring the kids up for a stint when you’ve got Gordon at your disposable. He’s plug and play. They’re still working on it in the minors.
Granderson is .005 from leading the team in average
I’d rather see Brian Gordon playing LF than Jones
Posada with a nice fakeout for the pie too. gj
I like Noesi a whole bunch.
Gordon def deserves another shot. Texas is a real tough lineup. No reason to risk one of the kids swinging the bat and Noesi is too far removed from his last long outing.
I just realized we won’t see Colon hit
That would have been entertaining.
Pat M., who’s your right handed bat? Francoeur? Crisp?
Gardner’s average is up to .286! Remember, he was hovering around the Mendoza line at the end of April
Also, Noesi, Ayala, Robertson, Wade, and Rivera have a combined ERA of about 1.50…we might just have ourselves a good bullpen
Pat M.
When the Yankees dump Jones, will that power hitting right-handed OF’er be Michael Cuddyer or Hunter Pence, whose Astro team is almost 20 games under .500?
Didn’t see the game, only the stats. How were Gordon and Noesi?

I’m not sure we’ve had a bad bullpen this season, at any point. In fact I’d dare say it’s been good all season.
Gordon didn’t look half bad…average stuff but a lot of quality strikes with various pitches. Cashman has been money on guys like this over the years.

Wow, finally home. Not going to lie, that sucked!! All went well tho. Thanks for the prayers. NAP TIME!
“I just realized we won’t see Colon hit”
there’s a very slim chance he could be back in time for the Mets series, which will be exactly 3 weeks since he hit the DL
Swisher is your power hitting RH OF
Gordon pitched a like what you see if Garcia was pitching, with an extra mile or 2 on the fastball.
“I’m not sure we’ve had a bad bullpen this season, at any point. In fact I’d dare say it’s been good all season.”
It has been consistently great, which is crazy considering we lost our main lefty, then our set-up man, and then our 7th inning guy. But each time a man went down the bullpen never missed a beat.
Gardner is a big league ballplayer who obviously has skills. He is not who I would choose to play left-field for the Yankees for the long term.
They’ll dump Jones when Chavez comes back Id say…he has no bat speed left.
Make Nunez your RH OF bat.
If there is one thing Cahsman is good at…..its scrap heap diving for starting pitching. He finds one or two every year that contribute.
Like watching windshield wipers.
Pretty awesome that they were able to turn out a 6-4 homestand after the Red Sox debacle……aside from that series the Yankees have played very good baseball over the last 2-3 weeks…..in spite of a lot of injuires. This is a good team that could be a great team with better health and a couple of key aquistions.

What did you win ?
Cashman turns $hit into sugar. His pitching scouts need raises.
Swisher is actually doing quite swisher-esque since around middle of may and .293 .434 .610 1.044 in June. If he comes around combined with Cano/Tex/A-rod/Gardner/Granderson/Posada/Martin + possible montero infusion at some point
Good things

If i actually cared about the game, i would of been watching on my mlb app, so i won’t mention that i am excited the surgery went well and we won! (i really don’t know if we did, because i could careless. i will just play xbox 360 for the next year in my million dollar home with my kid)

Who do you have in mind?
This sweep almost makes me forget about bostons sweep. I think maybe that series was a wakeup call. 6-1 since Girardi and team cleared the benches.
Also…..it was nice to have Martin back today…..he made an immediate impact.
hunter pence would be very expensive. good player better then nicky but pass….
gordon should get another start, minor league #’s off the wall and let it play out. if or when he faulters make the change. phelps is young and still developing so no rush..
glad cashman commented on Montero today. the guy is hitting 300 in AAA and is probably bored to death and 21….he is a hitting savant…..
Gardner is a big league ballplayer who obviously has skills. He is not who I would choose to play left-field for the Yankees for the long term.

Gardner must have a lot of skills to jump from little league to the big leagues in one week.
I was at work and missed the game, but nice win………….Granderson’s always in the middle of something. I just love the guy
wow, all the Cubs pitchers we’re facing have ERA’s around 5.50…and we’re bringing our power bats to Wrigley Field. the Yankees need to put the hammer down in that series
all the yankee issues, such as BA with RISP, injuries, fading jeter and jorge and 1 game out.
paying big dollars for pen help in most cases is not provide a good ROI, cashman is doing it correctly. If Noesi keeps it up he will be in the pen all year and Girardi will have to tak ethe reins off him.
This team really is set up nicely. A lot of players should return soon, Soriano, Hughes, Chavez, Colon, that will inject more competition into the team and hopefully even better results.
As long as Girardi + Cashman holds every player accountable for a certain level of production in order to play, then we should be fine.
Bojo,
I think ideally they need a LH starter and another Lefty for the pen……and another bat would be nice though how badly they need that remains to be seen……and obviously they need to get healthy.
I don’t think their starting pitching is good enough to win it all is it is currently……Hughes coming back strong could change that I guess without a trade.
Face,
When do you see them calling up Jesus?
Also, what do you and others think about Bedard on the trade deadline? I know he has a bad attitude and injury prone. But it seems like hes back to his past dominant self. Thoughts?
Blake–thankfully we have about 6 weeks to let them get healthy before we have to decide what we need in a trade.
Cashman is going to get a lot of calls about Nunez at the deadline.
When they are not playing the Red Sox, this team is pretty damn good.
The words Colon and “slim” chance should never be used in the same sentence! Going 6-4 on the home stand after being swept by the Sux is pretty damn good.
Other than perhaps a Beltran or Choo, and maybe a LOOGY, I don’t see the need for much–if anything. This team will make the paly-offs as is IMO…And I’ll put CC/Colon/Hughes up against others when this offense is on all cylinders.
J.C. Romero released by Phils.
LHH’s in ’11: .208 .321 .208 .530
’10: .217 .323 .277 .600
Going out–enjoy the evening all!
“When they are not playing the Red Sox, this team is pretty damn good.”
38-20 to be exact
Bojo,
We have no idea what Hughes is gonna provide when he comes back though…..ill hope for the best but they need to plan like he’s not going to be a major factor this year IMO……if he is then its gravy.

Indeed. We’re seeing why he wouldn’t budge with Seattle, you can’t just toss in a solid prospect after a deal is agreed upon.
Not sure if we’d find a trade match, though.
Bojo,
We need the real Hughes to stand up. I cant see us going with a 3 man rotation in the postseason again.
“We have no idea what Hughes is gonna provide when he comes back though…..ill hope for the best but they need to plan like he’s not going to be a major factor this year IMO……if he is then its gravy.”
Agree 100%
I remember Romero’s name coming up this offseason.
Why was he released?
What’s Bedard’s contract? He’s intriguing as a rental, but I don’t think I’d want to commit him to the rotation beyond this year.
Regardless, the M’s are in a division race so I don’t see them dealing any of their pitchers. Also, they ask too much from us. Remember when they wanted AJax for Washburn?
Gordon pitched well today and I am glad for the Yanks and for him. However, I still don’t believe passing over Phelps, Mitchell and Warren was a good long-term organizational decision.
LGY:

Company CAH!
If Nunez can cut down on his errors, he’s an average major league shortstop at worst, with potential to be above average. The shortstop position is so weak around baseball that you almost have to view him as an Austin Romine type as far as overall value.

Oh did he play little league when he was a kid? Good for little Brett!
gordon is a short term solution with no long term impact on the organization.
if he fails bye bye gordon. if he succeeds pitch him, the guy is 32. a version of aaron small would do…
warren, phelps, the b’s they are a whole different issue…….
RS,
I believe he is a free agent after this year and signed a cheap contract with the mariners this season. Not sure what they would ask for. And im sure they wouldnt let him go if they are still contending in a couple weeks. We guess we didnt help the cause by sweeping Texas.
Romero is still owed over 900K.
It will be interesting to see if the Yanks put a claim on him.
nunez has value. the guy is 24, with about 40 big league games. his tools are at least major league avg or better. doubt the yanks will move him. the yanks shortstop is 37, injured and fading fast….not sure what the rationale would be to trade nunez. he has more upside then Pena …
Alexi made a ton of errors when he first came up….so did Andrus. That’s not uncommon…..Nunez is.more talented than a lot of starting SSs in baseball…..doesn’t mean he’ll be great or anything but he’s got a good skill set. Lot of teams would like to have him id imagine.
I would not trade Nooney. We have an aging shortstop and third baseman. We do not have a crystal ball and know for sure that they will stay healthy from hear on out. Hes the best insurance we have at this time.
“gordon is a short term solution with no long term impact on the organization.”
You missed my point. The long-term hit is on the morale of Mitchell, Phelps and Warren and in the long run the Yank minor league system as a whole.
Romero,
Has 12 bb 10 k’s in 16 innings pitched. Logan has better numbers and hes facing better hitters.
Id trade Nunez…..but only for the right deal. He’s got a lot of value both trade and to the Yankees so the return would have to be significant……
What an exciting game today(only because Yankees won).
Gardner came through when some other hitters could not.
Great job by the unknown starter and the rest of the pen today.
Mo going two innings was really an easy decision.
What a game. Would have been nice to win on a run walked in in the whatever inning that was. But the walkoff was sweet.
Good pitching all around.
SOS
Just focus on the lefty splits
Wave,
I really don’t think it’ll affect those guys all that much…..
The Yanks have already wasted over 8 million on LOOGYs this season.
What’s another mill? Send the Phils over a draft pick while we’re at it.

From Cots…
1 year/$1M (2011)
re-signed by Seattle as a free agent 12/4/10 (non-guaranteed)
$6.35M in performance bonuses
Funny you should ask about Bedard…
Just this morning I posted the following on an Angels site in response to complaints re: their offense…
Well, if it’s any consolation, Erik’s been pretty stingy in the earned run department lately. In his last 9 starts, he’s pitched 58.1 innings, gone 4-0 with a 1.70ERA and 53 strikeouts. Think the Yanks might be calling?
oh, by the way…
thank the Yanks for helping the M’s get to .5 back!
All Yankee minor leaguers should expect the worst and hope for the best. Not many make it to the bigs as a Yankee. You would think they all know that they are more of a trade bait than future Yanks. Its not like theyr playing for the Pirates, Rays or Royals. Im a huge Yankee fan and if i wanted to play for the Yankees, I would have to be drafted by another team. Tear it up for awhile and get either traded there or wait for free agency.
Wonder if the Marlins will try to move Hanley soon…..he starts making 15 million next year. They have Stanton now as another draw for the new stadium…..
“Wave,
I really don’t think it’ll affect those guys all that much…..”
If it were me it would affect me a lot. Maybe Mitchell, Phelps and Warren are made of sterner stuff. However, my experience of human nature makes me wonder.
Compass,
The Ms have shocked me this year……Ill be cheering for my boy D Ackley.
Hanley in RF
Hughes-less Yankees own the Lee-less Rangers.
LGY,
That’s where Id put him…..
Im sure Jeter would be more than happy to give him his position and move to right.
Gardner-Grandy-Swish would be sweet.
I hope the Marlins put Anibal on the market.
Whoa. Meant Gardner-Grandy-Hanley obviously.
Mo, Robertson, Ayala, Noesi, and Wade have combined for a 1.42 ERA in 95 innings. Not bad
nunez has a choppy swing, reminds me of soriano, they can hit the ball anywhere, maybe there’s another arod we can trade him for
“Ill be cheering for my boy D Ackley.”
=====================
Cool.
Are you from North Carolina?
Dustin was hitting 303/.421/.487/.908 at AAA Tacoma this year, it will be interesting to see how that translates to the big leagues.
I’ll be at Safeco Field for all three Phillies games this weekend…
tomorrow should be especially exciting – Pineda vs. Oswalt and Ackley’s debut
Nunez is the kind of cheap ready to play SS the Marlins would probably like in return if thy did decide to deal Hanley….it would take more than that obviously but just sayin….
Compass,
Yea….he’s a fellow Heel……he can rake.
It would cost a to to get HanRam.
“he can rake.”
=========
Here’s hoping!
Tom,
Yea it would…..I wasn’t suggesting they could be him for Nunez for the record.
Nah, they’d want Iglesias.
Gardner. Every. Day.
Yes…..Gardner every day. If they must play Andrew some then let him DH against occasional lefties until they finally call up Montero.
no one is here?
The Yankees sweep has left this blog speechless.
Watching Rays-RS. But Price is getting squeezed.
Whoever paid 56 cents for my tickets today certainly got their money’s worth.
Jeers, I didn’t even bother to sell my tix for Wed.’s game (went to see Betances). The market is pitiful.
Time for Rays to call up Desmond Jennings.
Will the Sox ever lose another series?
So, what’s with David Price? I thought he was supposed to be the greatest young pitcher. Maybe not as great as Andrew Miller, but still…..
mikeaxisa Of the Yankees last 13 losses, six are to the Red Sox and six others were by one run.
He will be fine as soon as the Sox leave town
Yet again, so many Yankees fans seem so ungrateful. I’m sick of this Warren/Phelps over Gordon junk.
It’s absolutely not hindering their development that they’re not making the spot starts.
It’s not insulting either. If Warren or Phelps are insulted, then they should pitch better than Gordon. He’s Out pitched them this season.
Hi everyone,
Great game, unfortunately had to work and couldn’t watch it completely, nice debut from gordon great to win the walk off way
