TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has run the bases for the first time, a key step in his rehabilitation program for a strained right calf.
The Yankees captain ran from home to first four times, first to second three times and first to third once on Tuesday at the team’s minor league complex.
“Running is probably most important,” Jeter said. “Feels good. I’m sure we’ll pick it up in the next couple days.”
There is no date yet for when Jeter, on the 15-day disabled list for the first time since 2003, will rejoin the lineup.
“As soon as I can,” he said.
Jeter is six hits shy of 3,000, a chase that’s been on hold since he got hurt June 13.
Jeter also took 24 grounders on the grass, 10 more at his normal infield position and made throws to first base. He took 47 swings during his second day of on-field batting practice.
Also, right-hander Bartolo Colon, sidelined with a strained right hamstring, practiced bunting, a sign that he could pitch in his weekend’s interleague road series against the New York Mets.
Colon, coming off a 60-pitch, four-inning simulated game on Monday, also threw long toss, ran sprints and did agility drills.
Converted reliever Mark Prior, on the DL at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre because of a strained groin, threw off a bullpen mound for the second time in four days. If there are no problems, he might throw batting practice later this week.

All the usual suspects (plus Nunez)
“Nuney” is a usual suspect for the time being
Oh, Jeez, not this lineup again.

who u want in? cervelli?
It would be nice to see Martin get a couple of hits tonite. His slump has gone on long enough.

Nunez since Jeter went down, pretty good! .293 .341 .415 .756
Yay….sounds like Colon and Jeter are close…….
Doc lac,
That was for Bojo.
“sounds like Colon and Jeter are close”
They’re real tight. Good friends I bet.
We’re DOOMED!
is Girardi trying to lose this game???

Didnt catch the part of Colon practicing the art of stealing second after the bunt single.

its a reverse jinx…when people complain about the lineup, they usually come thru

Must be tough wearing glasses!
Swisher not leadoff!?
Swish is lead off against lefties
I think SOS was complaining about th eline-up…the more the merrier.
No, they don’t.
C’mon, gotta get Jones in the lineup.
Jones walk up song should be “Me and Mrs Jones”
MTU June 28th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
With the gear we have outfitted him with I think more along the lines of the tropical pineapple drinks with the straw and little umbrella sticking out the top.
You know I started to post something about LGY being depressed that Jeter’s calf is healing….. better get the saber voo doo doll again
MTU June 28th, 2011 at 3:49 pm
How tight ?
VY-
I think you’d be right on that.
Nunez has done a nice job filling in for Jete……but I will be glad when I don’t have to hold my breathe every time a rountine ground ball is hit to SS anymore.

Partners in rehab ? Fallen soldier’s close. That sort of thing.
JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: He was dangerous when he was 12 hitting the ball out of Anaheim Stadium…on Prince Fielder
JoeAuriemmaYES Girardi: Colon is on his way here today for evaluation…Jeter took BP, grounders and threw at 50-60% and felt good

JoeAuriemmaYES Soriano is long tossing and he has felt good.
Bartolo = No Gordon = Good
Keep the bad vibes going people. I smell a Yankee blowout.
knunezoblock needs to get his throws down or he might be playing the outfield like someone we once knew.
JackCurryYES Asked if Yankees are appreciably better with Nunez at SS, Girardi said he’s not “opening up that can of worms.” Stressed Jeter is the SS.
MTU June 28th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Thanks, just can’t envision them hanging out away from the ballpark. Colon a fast food guy, Jeter, chicken caesar or sushi type.
Soriano(if he wakes up and feels like it)
Colon
Jeter
Hughes
Chavez
Look like they will be hear in July. Talk about bolstering your team up by trade deadline. Who else can say that they reloaded without a single trade?
“Soriano is long tossing and he has felt good.”
But of course, as is his way, he would not smile about it.
When asked what he thought about his his contract though, he did.

I don’t think this nickname will be catching on.
SoS June 28th, 2011 at 4:10 pm
In a nutshell are you saying the Yankees will be taking Greinke to the woodshed ? ?
I might as well cue up old Dallas re-runs. This lineup is useless
No body on the Yanks will be able to hit Greinke’s 4.77 era stuff.
JackCurryYES Today’s Elias eye-popping stat: In A-Rod’s last 10 plate apps with RISP, he’s 7 for 7 with 2 walks and a sac fly.
Jeter’s fav food is chicken parm..I bet Colon is not too fussy
“This lineup is useless”
Totally.
Erin
you are just a wealth of info
Andruw jones last walk-up song should be this one.

“I bet Colon is not too fussy”
Ya’ think ?
Whatever Colons diet is, feed it to the B’s. Leads to throwing strikes, I’m told.
upstate kate June 28th, 2011 at 4:16 pm
Well I had it partially right with the chicken. You are probably correct about Colon, a see-food diet type guy.

JK,
Then I got nothing. I must admit it took me a longtime to come up with just that.
I might have been better if I went with if he keeps knoblauching his throws. Sort of like being Pavanoed for 30 days.
Tom-
Pound for pound Colon is one of the best pitchers the Yankees have.
And you’re right whatever he eats the B’s should eat.
CC and Colon both prove that more is definitely better than less.
Matt_Fortuna Martin has All-Star start in his sights http://t.co/Ji6VIv5
glad colon may be back this weekend
If any of you compare the early ST pictures of Colon to now, it does look like he has lost a lot of weight. In spring, he had more chins than a Chinese phone book. Not you can actually count them on one hand.
Tom-
Too bad Boomer is no longer on the Yankees that would really “round” out the rotation.
As Terry Foster once said: “A waist is a terrible thing to mind.”
tomingeorgia June 28th, 2011 at 4:15 pm
No body on the Yanks will be able to hit Greinke’s 4.77 era stuff.
___________
That stat is misleading. If you throw out the games where he allowed more than 2 runs per 9 innings, his ERA would be below 2.
Keep voting for Martin and Jeter in the ASG… we have to make sure they get in.
A-Rod, Granderson, and Cano are locks at this point with the leads they have. It is probably too late to vote for Swisher/Gardner for the OF, so vote for Hamilton to hope he holds off Ellsbury, who is only 200K or so behind.
But make sure you vote 25x each for Martin and Jeter so they stave off their competitors. Jeter probably still should get it, as he has a 500K lead, but you never know. So just incase, keep voting for them.

I have a bad feeling about facing greinke tonight. Tonight might be one of those…. “you should have traded for me” performances by greinke tonight.

I like #10 and #11.
28 RINGS,
Youv got it all backwards. As someone brought to our attention last week. Lets vote the whole red sox team in and hope they go extra innings. Lets keep our guys fresh for the games that really count.
10,3,7,8,11,12,1. Might have jotted down more numbers if it was the black outfit.
Dante19jr Walkoff win today!!!!!! Scored the winning run! First time in a while I’ve been on the winning side of an extra inning win haha
It’s a little disturbing to see you all blithely commenting on the lineup and the like while ignoring a comment from yesterday that may be the most disconcerting utterance to appear on this site:
“The best play I have ever seen was WICKED.”

******************
The great Doug Davis, who is such a crafty veteran that can locate 10 different pitches with movement, has given up 12 hits and 10 runs to the Giants in 4.1 innings…that is, the Giants team with Aubrey Huff and Cody Ross batting 3 and 4
On another note, anyone who wants to complain about the Yankees lineup should check out the lineup the Red Sox are sending out against Cliff Lee tonight (though who knows, they’ll probably end up scoring 8 runs)
lol NSF. Classic!
Now hopefully no one searches the archives for the culprit.
Maybe the person who said that meant just plays he or she had seen performed live? And maybe he or she hasn’t seen that many live shows?
I am shaken.
Tampa (GCL) sweeps a double header today. Tampa yanks of the FSL lost 3-0. heredia’s record fell to 8-2. he was only average today. 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts in 6 innings.
I prefer Putnam County Spelling Bee
O.k. now that everyones gone back and did their research I have to defend myself. Doreen agreed with me a couple years back. That must count for something.
Maybe the only comparison he/she made was to “Bugs Bunny on Broadway?”
Doreen agreed that WICKED was the best play you’ve ever seen?

I usually don’t stuff the ballot box, but I think I’m going to try to help the cause.

mel,
Youll be doing it all the way till first pitch to get Swisher voted in. Its not worth it.
haha, sos. not going to do more than 25, maybe 50.
I don’t mean to disparage WICKED, which undoubtably has abundant contemporary entertainment value and has proven quite popular (though we all know that popularity is not always indicative of quality; see: CATS).
But there are a ton of classic musicals that this person might want to check out for the sake of comparison (the person said ‘play’ but I think he meant ‘musical’? If the person meant any type of live theatrical stage performance, brush up on your Shakespeare!).
NSF,
Lets put that in the musical catagory.
Does cirque du soleil shows count as theatrical. If so, I would put one of those in for the the second part ahead of shakespeare.
mel,
Who are you trying to get in? The only ones missing is Gardner and Swish. Tex to start?
Cirque Du Soliel… I’m going to say no, that’s in a different category.
Musicals… GUYS AND DOLLS, WEST SIDE STORY, SOUTH PACIFIC, that sort of thing.
