Happy Birthday USA and George Steinbrenner.
Happy Independence Day to all!
Right back on the horse again tonight.
Start a new streak.
Famous saying.
Might have been Churchill.
“Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others”.
Happy 4th to all.
Be careful not to blow your fingers off.
Have a great and glorious 4th, Tom. You earned it.
Happy July 4th!
My brother-in-law said he heard people say on the radio, in answer to questions, that they didn’t know who America declared independence from. It’s completely embarrassing, but unfortunately, not surprising.
Tough pitching matchups – the Indians’ starters have pitched very well, especially Masterson………..wow.
So did you GB. In spades.
Have a great day ! Be careful with those M80′s. Nasty buggers.
GB7,
“Freedom is not free.” God bless America, the home of the brave!
Here in Georgia you can’t get a firecracker you can hear a block away. Over in South Carolina you can buy enough big pyrotechnics to blow up a city!
MTU, I gave up the fireworks a few years ago. Now, I’ll just sit back and watch with the twins. It’s their first and I’ll be with them down of the river to watch. And thanks, MTU. Just a job that needed down. I got lucky.
Tom, that’s a great quote. Thanks for the reminder.
Tom-
First of all let me say thank you for your service.
When I was a kid I used to love dropping those m80′s into covered garbage cans.
Blew the lids clean off and about 10 feet in the air.
We have an Indian res that sells all you want at really good prices.
It’s so dry out here this year it would be great if people would just use a little common sense during their celebrations even though I know they wont.
It’s a tinderbox. Alchohol, fireworks, and really dry conditions do not mix well.
Hoping for the best.
job that needed ***DONE***
Only in American can you misspell a word and not get hung for it.
The penalties for misspelling and early withdrawl (savings accounts, you dirty minded folks ) and can be deadly.

Enjoy the festivities. It sounds like fun.
P.S. Be sure you have a designated driver handy and you’re wearing your life jacket.

MTU, got the babies…no drinking for me. Can’t say the same for “Killer” though. That hound is a lush.
Trying to scare the moose and FROGS back to Canada, huh, Maine?
Just kidding about “FROGS”, Comet.
GB-
That’s good. He’ll drink enough for both of you. Of that I’m sure.
By the way, Is it the Savannah river you’re going to ?
I like the name of the one that runs through our backyard.
It’s called the “Virgin”.
I want to thank everyone who lives a patriotic life, whether they served or not.
GB7
You don’t scare moose. They scare you.
Maine-
You’re kidding. Right ?
What could be scary about Bullwinkle ? Rocky didn’t find him the least bit scary.
Happy 4th everyone. I am personally looking forward to drinking too much and then attempting to light fireworks, like a true American.

Speaking as someone who did serve, I second your thoughts.
Good afternoon.
I’m driving in to Cleveland with my 2 sons (ages 9 and 6) for tomorrow night’s game. You’re all more plugged in than I am… Is it reasonably safe to tell my boys that Derek Jeter will almost certainly be in Tuesday nigh’t lineup?
GB7
I won’t touch the “Frog” comment.
I might get a tounge lashing from a certain someone.
TY-
Have a great day. Stay safe. Maybe you could invite Maddon over for some “fireworks” ?
MTU, correct…The Savannah River. About 2 miles away is Wilmington Island and it has a small Stream that was renamed “Moon River, named for Savannah’s favorite son, Johnny Mercer.

Yeah, but get a couple of beers in Bullwinkle and watch out.
As Boris once found out in a lost episode.
GB7
Try coming around a corner in the pitch black and see one in front of your hood.
We have alot of roads without street lights.
GB-
I liked that song. Is it really wider than a mile ?
Sorry, Maine.
Tell that certain someone, “Ribbit”
It is, Maine, but it’s in dog miles
MTU,
Thanks. I did what seemed right to me and, like GB7, stayed lucky.
South Georgia is in a super drought with several big fires, not New Mexico size, but big enough that the south wind carries the smoke hundreds of miles. Lots of Georgia counties have called of fireworks shows to avoid starting any more. Have to settle for gunshots in the air, I guess!
Aldo-
Thank you for your service as well.
With your handle that should be obvious.
I’d shake your hand but I can’t quite reach.
When you stick around the Hacienda you don’t have much to worry about.
No wild Moose, and even better, no drunks.
Stay safe. Enjoy your day.

MTU
Sorry, that was a response to you.
You and GB7 are starting to sound alike.
Be afraid, very afraid.
MTU
ahh I should.
at the Tuesday night Rays and Reds game that i went to, there was this woman behind us and I cant remember, I think it was Brandon Phillips, he struck out looking and before he went back to the dugout he had words with the ump. The woman yells, “yeah complain like the Red Sox!” I tried to control myself because my friend gets embarrassed when I pick fights at the games(it happens everytime), but I couldnt. I turned right around and said something to the effect of ” uh, excuse me? Whose manager tries to get tossed out of every game? YOURS!! Joe maddon is the biggest whiner in the AL East!” and then I sat down. She didnt say anything to me, I think she was in shock.
Tom-
We all rely on luck in one way or another. Sometimes we just don’t know it.
Have fun. Be careful of those gravitationally guided projectiles.
Tom, as bad as the storms can get off of the ocean down here…that’s or advantage. The fireworks are shot off over the water….either the Savannah River or over the ocean if you’re at Tybee. We get enough rain around here, but west and south of Stateboro. not so good.
TY-
I think of that as spunk. Good job.
Maine-
Are you SURE that wasn’t a Bigfoot ?
Maine-
We’ve got the same problem around here with the smaller cousins.
If you’re on a rural road driving at night you’d better be damn careful.
tyanksfan
Did you see Pedroia turn and yell at the ump as he ran to first on a base hit?
He had a strike called on him that had him in a rage.
It’s a wonder the ump didn’t toss him.
“It’s a wonder the ump didn’t toss him.”
The ump felt sorry for him since he knew that he was vertically challenged.

I hate to correct you, MTU, but field mice are not cousins of the moose.
MTU
If you saw it you would think the same.
I’ve never seen a player react that way towards an ump before.
He continued after he got to first base and also after the inning was over.
He clearly showed up the ump which usually gets you tossed.
GB-
LoL.
There the size of Deer though ?
To all the men and women who have and are serving in the military, Thank you.
Bichette hasn’t hit very much yet, but, he doesn’t strike out much and for an 18 year ols, he’s quite patient. 46 at bats, only 7 strikeouts. He does have 14 walks and a sac fly, though.

Not that many but a few.
Camel maybe. You can’t saddle a goat. Unless of course it’s for Pedroia to ride.

I don’t think any honest living should be banned, especially during a recession.
“make that small people tossing( don’t want to get anyone upset here).”
I think small people is a more apt description for people of even normal height or taller, but who are extremely petty.
Where I live, there are so may deer that the bag limit per hunter is twelve a year! And people feed them. A deer strike or two happens every day. But MTU, ours don’t carry Hanta virus.
GB
I am going to a GCL game on Saturday. I have already been to 2 and Im starting to figure out who the player are now. I saw Bichette walk twice in the game I went to saturday. He does seem pretty patient, I only saw one ball go to him on Saturday and he fielded it cleanly and turned a game ending double play. I didnt get to see the range of the outfielders because all the balls hit to them were either gappers or right to them.

I believe hanta virus is carried by the mice that GB thinks I like to run over at night. Not by Deer.
Our deer are even more special. They carry ticks which give you Rocky Mtn. spotted fever.
That’s a real barrel of laughs.
Rich, I don’t need any more.
MTU,
Lyme disease hasnt gotten here yet, as far as I know, but deer ticks carry that, too
tom
That’s the one thing that’s changed about Bergen County in the last 20 years. Development, whatever you think of it, has pushed deer and foxes into residential areas where there used to be none. I even saw a bear a few blocks from my house a month ago.
Tom-
Yeah. That’s another fun one.
And everyone thinks Bambi is harmless.
GB
it wasnt too hot. They play Saturday games at 10 which is a bit cooler than their usual 12pm games. I can tell you that Carlos Franco, the Braves 3rd baseman in the GCL is having quite the hard time with balls hit towards him. He seems pretty okay about it because he cusses and laughs when he botches a play. Tyler Austin has looked good at first though its hard to see from where I was sitting. the big blue fence is distracting.
Rich,
I grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus when it was rural, and we had plenty of deer then.
A real bear? Oh, My. Any lions and tigers?
If you want to see an inhumane way to kill deer, just look at how many lay dead along the highways. Hunting is far more humane.

I have LD and the drs aren’t good at diagnosing it here.
They want to label it anything but that.
Look out for a bullseye rash. Not everyone gets it but that is one indicator.
Muscle pain is one result but their are many other symptons.
MTu, what ever gave you the idea that I would believe you meant any other way?
Scratch another IFA target off the list:
The Astros have signed Dominican shortstop Luis Reynoso, reports Ben Badler of Baseball America. The 16-year-old received a $700K signing bonus.
Badler’s subscriber-only scouting report says Reynoso “has an athletic, projectable body and combines solid tools with instincts and feel on both sides of the ball.” He’s a contact-oriented hitter with speed from the right side, and it’s expected that he’ll be able to man the middle infield long-term.
Can we please turn to fishing for a moment ?
Did any of you ever have to throw a fish back because it was too small ?

SMALL. The minimum was 20″. Now that is just plain frustrating.
Why did Robbie accept the invite to participate in the derby?

If so, that would be real cause for concern. I don’t hike alone much anymore because of it.
Too damn dangerous. Thankfully most of ours give you a warning. Yours don’t.
Happy 4th to everyone!
Tough loss yesterday…..can’t win them all and something like that was bound to happen sooner or later.
Pretty excited to get some sure hands back at SS today. Im not sure what’s happened to Pena but that was just horrific technique on both of those balls….standing straight up and never got in any sort of position to make the plays. He looks like he’s bulked up a bit and frankly like someone that’s not athletic enough to play SS right now…….unless LGY has figured out a way to delay Jeter’s flight to Cleveland he should be back in the lineup today.

I’ve known I’ve had it since 05 but probably got it at least 10yrs before that.
It’s good to do a check but the ones that are the problem are so small you can’t see them.
They also like to hide in areas that are hairy, which makes it hard to see them.
I hear Nike has just come out with a new light weight hunting boot. Can’t wait to give ‘em a try.
If Jeter gets 3 or 4 hits in Cleveland it would be perfect. No more, no less.
Perfect would be a sweep of Cleveland.
I never hit a Bambi. thankfully.
People that do usually suffer more than the Deer.
They don’t die quickly like the deer.
There is nothing you can do about it except to exercise caution.
We have a huge amount of wilderness out here but chance encounters still seem to just be in the cards.
Good morning and Happy 4th, everyone!
Hopefully, we start a new streak today.
WCYF,
You seriously can’t be offended about what anyone says about California. They’re just tweaking you because of what you said about Georgia. Don’t be such a snob.
And do people here seriously think that Nunez didn’t have tightness? Because that’s what y’all making it sound like. Like Nunez was perfectly healthy. All players say they’re healthy and ready to go. Girardi just used his managerial prerogative.
Go, Yankees. Go, AJ, And Oh, Canada!
Tom, my younger brother is a cross country truck and was in Michigan last fall and hit a bear. killed the bear and totaled the truck. The deer down here aren’t all that big and the venison has a pine and swamp grass taest to it. On this side of the state, you need to go to around Washington before the dee get good in taste and size.

If Jeter rejoins the Yankees today then someone will have to go down to Scranton (or be DFA’d). Does anyone know who that is? Will Nunez, Pena or Dickerson go down to Scranton or might this be the time to break the ties with Andruw Jones?
MTU
All is good, thanks for asking.
Happy 4th, everyone.
If anyone has the opportunity to go the LoHud outing in Scranton, they should do it. We went a couple of years ago, and had a great time. Chad showed up (he was working at the local paper then), he’s a first rate guy. Met Shelly Duncan, and Francisco Cervelli (a very polite young man, he apologized when he had to go catch that day’s SP, Ivan Nova).
Pete spent the day, and socialized with everyone. (GB – too bad you weren’t there, you could have provided some entertainment
)
Everyone we met there, from fellow LoHud bloggers to the ballpark staff, to the people of Scranton, were gracious, and great company. You really get a taste of minor league baseball, and what it can mean to a community.
Watching Lackey getting rocked
There are a couple of cougars that live on my block.
They are ferocious and pretty aggressive – especially when you don’t take them out for dinner.
7-0, Toronto. Talk about firworks!
Rumor has it that Boston is putting John Lackey on the new DLFPTKGTIHBLD.
(Disabled List For Pitchers That Keep Getting Their Infielders Hurt By Line Drives)
1 out in the third. 7-0 Toronto and a runner on base
Happy Fourth of July all and thanks to our Lohud vets. A propos of nothing, the Angels knew what they were doing when they let John Lackey go. Wow.
I would have to think Pena is going to get the axe today and that was probably going to be the move regardless of yesterday’s outcome.
Doctors are supposed to be peace loving and opposed to violence, Joe…not promote it.
GF, the most dangerous cougars are the ones that armed…..with a marriage license
I would have to think Pena is going to get the axe today and that was probably going to be the move regardless of yesterday’s outcome.
==============================================
That seems like the most logical move. I don’t think that the Yankees will keep Andruw Jones on the roster too much longer though…but they might hold off to see how Boston addresses their shortcoming in right field. I’d hate to see us release Jones then have him go to Fenway and beat us in August/September or October.
MTU,
New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine all had populations of mountain lions. So did New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, wiped out during the 1800s. What if they are just coming back, like the coyotes did?
Oh, GB, I’m not promoting violence. I’d have every expectation that you and Pete would engage in a nice, peaceful dialogue. No guarantee about what your blood pressure would be, though…….
KPB
yes, I did
Not a problem with doctors drumming up their own business, Joe. I really would like to get there, though. A lot of folks that I’d love to meet from the board, past and present. I’d even help Randy with his walker.
Even though Lackey plays for the Red Sox it’s hard for me to be happy when he struggles.
Lackey’s not struggling. he just stinks

LMAO. You’re too young to be a cougar, TY, unless you’re dating the high school football star. Then, you’d only be a “cougarette”. He might be better off in Tampa. Never was that impressed with what he did on the field.
Minnesota is all over Price at 4-0 in the third. Not positive that the Twins will hold this lead, though.
The Lackey signing makes Burnett look like the deal of the century. Lackey’s ERA is now 7.47, ripe for good headline jokes.
I think David Price has been a big disappointment this year.
If you look at it, Price, Porcello, Strasburg – all the big name young pitchers who were supposed to enter baseball and dominate from the start, have had problems. Historically, one can say this should have been predicted.
There aren’t many Bob Fellers out there. It’s tough being a ML pitcher.
Kind of puts Phil Hughes’, and Joba’s, difficulties in some perspective.
Yeah it does, Joe. It also makes what pitchers like Pettitte and Sabathia have done for 10 plus years all the more special.
Toronto and Morrow are giving Boston some hope in this game.
