I figured Cerv would play tonight so Martin can catch AJ tomorrow afternoon. And Alex could defintiely use a night off IMO.

Martin finally gets hot and has a hit this week and they sit him down. I guess Joe has no desire to win this game.

In the spirit of the Rays, I offer a terrific site on the Rays’ prospects:

ARod indeeds needs a night off.
Last night he looked about 3 steps slow and his batspeed was poor. This happens when players get old.

Joelsherman1 Swisher out vs. RHP, early word is dealing with some type quad pain #Yankees But neither he nor Girardi spoken yet

    SOS,

from the last thread…..his swing is a lot better from the right side….a lot flatter and shorter and he keeps the bat in the zone longer. It would be tough for him to just stop hitting LH’ed though at this age……he hasn’t faced RHP from the right side in a long time now. I’m hoping he is proactive and makes some changes soon….while he’s still young. I think the contract is fine…..he’s a better all around player than Giambi and he’s a productive hitter now. My only worry is really the last 2-3 years of the deal…..I could see a sharp early decline with that swing as the physical tools start to go……Alex’s swing is more likely to allow him to age gradually

This lineup looks very ordinary against a terrific young pitcher…so I guess this is the night we snap out of our hitting slump! Actually, with Garcia pitching for us, I just can’t see it.

  8. Captain Clutch July 8th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

Arod should have set DH days 2 times a week. Especially now that his knee is banged up they have to get him off his feet. He really looked bad last night.

  9. blake July 8th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Alex looked tired last night…..he was getting beat on pretty mediocre fastballs in the middle of the plate.

I’m beginning to think that Cervelli should get more PT anyway.

    why….the eyes?

Regulars must need more rest with the All Star break coming up. Wouldn’t want our guys to get too tuckered out when they will have several days off to themselves for R & R.

  13. blake July 8th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

I’m hoping Montero goes on a rampage in the 2nd half.

Huzzah! Jeter 2nd, on his way to 9th?

  15. Vineyard Yankee July 8th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Should be interesting tonight to see if Cervelli can get the ball out of the infield. No, I don’t mean a 62 hopper that finds it’s way between two of the infielders.

Hopefully A-Rod takes Mo’s lead and sits out of the AS game.

    blake,
Im just worried that if hes already at the .250 mark now. Whats he going to look like in 3 years when his bat starts to slow down? Maybe some Ortiz smoothie might help.

Alex needs to call it quits for the ASB.

    Captain Clutch,
I like the idea of having him DH a couple times a week. We need his bat more than his glove. It would also allow Nooney to get more playing time. I think it should increase to half the games by next year and full time after that. His body will not make it til 42 in a Yankee uniform if he stays on that field. He looks like a horse that needs to be shot these days.

Assuming that most players sleep at night like normal people and spend 5 to 6 hours a day at the ballpark having their every need and whim taken care of, it is amazing to me the amount of rest they require.

When Mays, Mantle, Aaron were playing they must have all been on the ‘greenies’ to alleviate being over tired and taking rest days……Right.

  20. SoS July 8th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

    Predictions.
Before or September call up for Montero? Im going September.

    VY,
What amazes me is players getting banged up as much as they do in this game. The only injuries I suffered playing baseball as a kid was getting strawberries on the knees sliding to second on concrete that was covered with a little dirt. I can understand injuries more coming in football and basketball because of the constant banging with other players.

They will probably bring him up to sit and observe what its like to be on the Yankees and be a ML player. That way he will be all ‘rested up’ in order to be a trade chip or to be ready for more seasoning in Winter ball……………LOL !

Jeter not going to All Star game
    —————

Arod should be next…If he can’t play today because he is “beat up” then he shouldn’t be playing in a stupid game like the all star game.

Maybe, we should get all the information first before commenting on the lineups. Guys get hurt and nicked up so let’s give Joe a break.

Obliques, lats, gluts, quads, concussions, hangnails, butt aches, toe hurts, finger sprains the list just goes on and on and on. Bunch a candy as*es.

Those were the good old days, tearing your pants and having a ‘strawberry’, too simple, huh ?
