The second opinion was the same as the first.

Alex Rodriguez will have surgery on his knee tomorrow. He’s expected to miss four to six weeks.

Sounds like the right decision. I had that surgery some years back. It took me 2 – 3 months to fully recuperate. but I’m hardly a world class athlete.

AROD is a workout warrior… He will be back in 3 weeks.

    Chad,

You have done a spectacular job (even more so than usual) over the past few days. Thank you for the updates, news, trivia, personal reflections and observations, etc. This blog is such a pleasure to read with you at the helm.

    Thanks for everything :)

Smart move. Do it now to have him fresh for the stretch. Nuñez gets more experience as well. Notice how he’s reading the player and setting his feet before throwing. He can rely more on his arm to avoid rushing his throws. We’ll be fine.

Yes, thank you Chad from those of us on the west coast.

OK, so who do the Yankees call up to take ARod’s spot on the roster for the next 4-6 weeks? Eric Chavez had a setback and is unavailable. I guess Brandon Laird would be the first choice with Jorge Vazquez being the second choice. Third choice would be to recall Chris Dickerson but that would not help the Yankees in the infield. Any other possibilities?

Co-sign the thanks to Chad – you do a phenomenal job in every aspect of the blog. I’m really appreciative and look forward to it every day.

Showalter always appeared to me to be something of a humorless martinet. Never liked him.
    ____
You have obviously never met the impish side of Buck Showalter when he had his “fart” pillows near by.

I think Dickerson is called back up. Pena came up for Jete, but they kept him on the roster and sent Dickerson down when DJ was activated.

    Bojo,
Does he have hand buzzers, stink bombs and fake dog turds too?

  11. Betsy July 10th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

4-6 weeks – that’s going to be brutal without him

  12. Rich in NJ July 10th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Having Pena as the only BUI when he may have to play 3B is not a good idea from an offensive perspective.

“4-6 weeks – that’s going to be brutal without him”

I doubt it. A-Rod over the last two weeks:

    .263 .282 .289 .572

So they have played without his normal production and have done ok.

    ____________
Of course! Do you ever see anyone sitting next to him in Orioles dugout?

    Rich in NJ,

I think Nunez can generate those numbers. Couple of nice plays in the field today, too.

  17. ryanm July 10th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Good news. I was afraid that they were trying to go the rest and see option, which would have been a mistake IMO.

  18. Bx is Burning July 10th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Schedule isn’t too crazy either in A-Rod’s absence.
If we can play even with our division rivals, we’ll be in the thick of it come September.

  19. Betsy July 10th, 2011 at 4:45 pm

Rich, let’s see if we get any kind of production from his replacement………It was the right move, but it’s not exactly good news.

On a more positive note, nice way to go into the break – too bad they aren’t in first place, but it’s been a good first half. I was surprised and pleased that Joe let CC finish – the big man is awesome.

    ========================================

How about moving Teixera to thirdbase (where he played in college), move Posada to firstbase and let Jesus DH?

  21. tomingeorgia July 10th, 2011 at 4:48 pm

    Bojo,
He’s got the whole impish arsenal, I guess, and a sandpaper personality.

  22. Ace July 10th, 2011 at 5:02 pm

They can survive 30 games without him

  23. RhapsodyInBlue July 10th, 2011 at 5:56 pm

    Good Luck Alex.

    God speed.

  24. 98NYY July 10th, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Laid has been on fire of late and has been playing both infield and outfield…bring him up and Golson to take Jones place.
