Garrison reportedly called up

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jul 19, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Trenton Thunder announced today that lefty Steve Garrison has been called up from Double-A. He’s not here right now, there’s no locker with his name, and the Yankees haven’t announced move, but I’m sure the Trenton website is correct.

Still no lineup posted, and they often wait to post a lineup whenever there’s a move to be made.

UPDATE, 4:24 p.m.: Garrison just arrived. Still no word on a move. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s here more as a long man than as a second lefty specialist.

    I hope Logan is alright.

  2. Warning Track Power July 19th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I hope Boone is not injured. Last thing the Yankees need is for another lefty reliever to land on the DL.

Could be the Yankees have tried to trade Mitre over the last week or so.
If nobody bites, then the only option is DFA!!

  3. Jerkface July 19th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Steve Garrison isn’t good, so I hope there is a logical explanation in this.

  4. NYYROC July 19th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

From previous thread, regarding Jays games: Wife and I were at the Th/ Fri games(I swear we are not jinxes!). Sat 6 rows from field on Th, next to camera well which is next to NYY dugout. We were about 30 feet from dugout and could look right in. During BP Cano & Tony Pena came right up to the stands where we were to talk to some fans from the DR. Tix were $70. Fri sat 29 rows behind Jays dugout, could go into first row for BP. Also ate in the restaurant above LF during BP, cool view. Many NYY fans (maybe 60-40 for Jays). Most fans were pretty cool. Stayed at Hyatt 2 blocks away. Don’t like the “trampoline turf” but other than that nice and inexpensive place to see a game.

Maybe someone in the pen has been traded? I think the emergency long man roe makes sense, but why wouldn’t that be Mitre? As bad as he’s been, he’s better than a guy with a 6.36 ERA in AA.

  6. Erin July 19th, 2011 at 3:59 pm

    Muy interesante…

  7. NYYROC July 19th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Maybe auditioning “2nd lefty” before they decide to go out and trade for one.

  8. LockDown July 19th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Mitre shouldn’t be on this team. If they need another long man, I rather go with Pendleton

  9. luis July 19th, 2011 at 4:01 pm

    NYYROC —

I was there Sunday. I agree with your assessment of the park, but while you may not be a jinx I am most certainly a good luck charm!

I was also in stadium for extra winning win over Texas earlier this summer.

luis-no. I took two years in college, and only remember certain phrases.

  13. austinmac July 19th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

If Garrison is here to help with left handers, what does that say about the Yankees view of Romero?

I think he is here as emergency relievers for Colon. If true, the Yankees are worried about him.

I very much doubt Steve Garrison passes that audition.

  16. ADam July 19th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Gotta Imagine it’s Mitre…. however would not surprise me if they send down Noesi, because why not, he’s good and hes young and he gets big outs…

  17. luis July 19th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

    Erin,

    Well written anyway.

    SoS,

I wonder why he hasn’t show up yet…….

  18. LockDown July 19th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

If Colon struggles tonight, I would put him on the 15 day DL for “emotional trauma due to fear of reoccurring injury” :(

  19. Mell July 19th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

    =================================

‘Bout the same as it says for R. Flores.

  20. Erin July 19th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Apparently Mitre is going on the DL

KenDavidoff LHP Steve Garrison will replace Sergio Mitre (disabled list) on the #Yankees’ roster.

  21. stuart a July 19th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

    better be mitre…………

  22. SoS July 19th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Maybe Garrison is the pie reliever being that Burnett is busy doing his thing. Didnt want to threaten Burnetts job bringing up a right handed pie smacker.

  23. Mell July 19th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

    Mitre DL’d.

    There it is.

  24. 86w183 July 19th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

None of it makes sense, but emergency long man is the least ridiculous reason for promoting a guy who can’t get AA hitters out consistently.

Interesting that Colon and Nova both start today… if there’s anything wrong with that hammy Ivan could be back in 5 days.

  25. SoS July 19th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Is there no one in AAA to handle the job? If thats the case why not bring Romine to replace Cervelli if they dont want to expose Montero before the deadline?

  26. 86w183 July 19th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

I didn’t think you could go on the DL due to gross incompetence.

I saw him in warmups Sunday and he was fine and throwing pretty hard off the ground to Mike Harkey.

  27. luis July 19th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

    SoS July 19th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Good for you!!, now i know why you have the handle you have, since it is a universal call for help, with that kind of abilities it sure looks that you need al ot of help. LOL,… kidding just in case

  31. BTX July 19th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Like this move. Never hurts to add a power lefty to our bullpen

  32. waka flocka July 19th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

can we just cut to the chase and get rid of Mitre?

  33. SoS July 19th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

    luis,
Sultan of Swat does not need any help.

  34. austinmac July 19th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Mitre’s neck may be injured from watching rockets fly by in all directions.

Colon will either pitch well or join Mitre and be replaced by Nova.

  35. SoS July 19th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

    Yesterday it was Pena.
    Today its Mitre.
    Tomorrow Cervelli?
Maybe they ran out of DFA documents and have plenty dl papers to spare.

Honest mistake. Years back when you didnt have to register. I had periods in between S.o.S.. But for some reason I couldnt use them when creating a name in registration. It looks like you had the same problem capitalizing the L.

    Ken_Rosenthal
#Royals GM Dayton Moore told @mlbnetworkradio that to trade Soria, he would need one major-league SP for now and another for 2013.

    Ken_Rosenthal
Judging from Moore’s description, the price for Soria from say, the #Yankees, would be Nova and Banuelos or Betances.

“Ken_Rosenthal Judging from Moore’s description, the price for Soria from say, the #Yankees, would be Nova and Banuelos or Betances.”

Keep dreaming……Mr. Moore. How about Serge Mitre and David Phelps.

    luis,
Its all good. I did not think for a second you werent. Feel free to rag at my expense anytime you want(100% rhyno skin). Theres nothing like a good sense of humor in times like these where we’re promoting pitchers with an era in the Igawa line.

  45. austinmac July 19th, 2011 at 4:27 pm

Good luck with that Royals. In my view, if Soriano is healthy the pen is in good shape. I wouldn’t use any chips there.

Isnt our pen ranked at the top of the AL this year? Thats without any contributions from Soriano.

  49. luis July 19th, 2011 at 4:33 pm

    SoS,

tell me about it…. But if you think about it… i rather bring Garrison than a good prospect for Mitre’s role on the team. same with Noesi, i think last night was the second time the used him on a meaninful situation

Need to bring up Montero and lets see what the kid has on O…..did hear early in the day that a scout said he hasn’t improved at catching at all this year

  52. joeman July 19th, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Garrison will pitch early tonight if the SP gets in trouble

  54. Yogi Mantle July 19th, 2011 at 4:41 pm

Mitre isn’t doing as well this go around as he did last season, and last season was nothing particularly spectacular. I think this seems like wanting something new to try if Colon has a third bad outing and has to be yanked out early. Noesi won’t be able to go, and if the Yankees are in the game, meaning that Colon didn’t allow too much damage even if its a an early out, Mitre is NOT one you would go to.

I think Noesi might have shown enough this season that he could be trusted more than what Mitre has shown. The Yankees might give someone a number of chances, but there comes a point when you can’t keep giving away games.

Now, if only they could find that little gremlin who stole the Yankee’s offense, we might see some damage done to the Ray’s hopes and dreams.

  55. GreenBeret7 July 19th, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Mitre was DL’d after losing in a street fight.

Unless this so called scout is either a Yankee scout or if external is willing to attach their name and even better say what club(s) they represent so we know who pays his fees, it doesn’t matter squat to me what some “scout” has to say especially when you are talking about an elite prospect.

What matters is the Yankees actions and to this point it is clear that NYY doesn’t think Montero is ready to come up to the big leagues for whatever reason(s).

    luis,
Mitre is a perfect example of why we should be staying away from nl pitchers. He had an era around 3.2 this year and the al converted him into a batting practice pitcher. Im on the fence with going after Ubaldo if it means giving up 2 of our top 3 and his velocity has dropped 3 mph.
