    Chavey’s back ;)

  2. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Looks like we just made a trade.

Guys name is Chavez. Plays third.

    :)

  3. blake July 26th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

There is no real reason to play it safe with Chavez…..get as much as you can for as long as you can out of him……you cold be extra careful with him and he could get hurt cutting his toenails and be out for the season.

  4. LGY July 26th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

Yay Chavez is back from the dead!

  5. Triple Short of a Cycle July 26th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Why is Posada batting ahead of Chavez?

  6. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Forget Rasmus. Lets go after J.Upton. Give them an offer they cant refuse. What would it take?

  7. Warning Track Power July 26th, 2011 at 3:46 pm

    WELCOME BACK CHAVY!!!
Finally, he has returned and at a time when the Yankees can use his bat the most.

I am guessing that B. Laird must be sent down to make room yes??

  8. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Looks like we just made a trade.

Guys name is Chavez. Plays third.

    ======

My spider senses are telling me that there will be a trade for a bullpen guy tomorrow named Soriano. I wonder if we can flip that trade for another before he touches down.

  9. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

I don’t want to trade for anyone.

I’m keeping everyone and going into extreme prospect hugging mode.

    Nobody is available.

    Not even Igawa.

    That’s my bottom line.

  10. Irreverent Discourse July 26th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

SoS – Maybe if you traded them the entire AAA affiliate you could think about getting Upton. For anything less than that? Not gonna happen.

  11. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 3:48 pm

    SoS-

    Ask Chip or Bret.

    ;)

  12. tomingeorgia July 26th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I’d like to see one REAL trade go down, and I don’t care who makes it.

  13. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Would you do this deal for Ubaldo Jimenez?

They supposedly gunned for Montero + Betances + Banuelos + Nova.

My offer replaces Banuelos with Gary Sanchez and Nova with Noesi.

    Montero + Betances + G. Sanchez + Noesi.

Do the Rockies do it? Is it close enough to their original demands?

  14. Yankee Trader July 26th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

    Blake-

Are you getting tired of trying to convince Trader of what’s obvious that Ubaldo is very good Pitcher ?

    I am.

Trader. Blake and I will take him. You can pass if you like.
    ————————————

I want him too, but not at the expense of starting with Montero+1 of the B’s + 3 other very goodplayers/prospects, as mentioned here.

Anyway,MTU, if you trade away Montero now, who ya using to get you Justin Upton, your main object of affection!! :)

  15. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

    Tom-

Sounds like you’re suffering from pre-trade traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).

    :)

  16. blake July 26th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Will Soriano agree to pitch against a team as bad as the Mariners?

  17. comet July 26th, 2011 at 3:51 pm

Hey Erin and MTU. Good to see you both out here. How is the weather where you are? It has cooled off here into the low eighties.

MTU I’d hang onto our top flight prospects. They are only a year or two away.

Erin where’s Upstate Kate? Miss her.

    All the best. C

  18. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Give me a day to promote Montero and you got yourself a deal.

  19. Irreverent Discourse July 26th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

SoS – That would certainly nullify any deal for Upton.

  20. Bronx Jeers July 26th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

” Eric Chavez! ……You Look Mahvelous!!”

We’re still waiting for Sterlings call.

  21. blake July 26th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

I would rather trade Nova than Noesi….and I think if you deal Montero you wanna keep Sanchez.

  22. Shame Spencer July 26th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

What about the rumors teams are checking up on BJ Upton..? Anyone see him being dealt before the deadline?

  23. tomingeorgia July 26th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

    MTU,
Maybe you’re right, but if the Yanks make a big trade I’d be fine with it. If they don’t, I’d be fine with that, too. I just want somebody to break the ice.

    ———————————————
Right now we’re looking at K-Rod to the Brewers, but that wasn’t a REAL trade-more like a giveaway. And then there’s Jeff Keppinger for two mediocre A pitchers I believe.

  25. DocTodd July 26th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

    Jorgie and Cervi….Hurray!

  26. blake July 26th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

  27. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

    Trader-

Just giving you a hard time. The thing with Ubaldo is the price of course.

I’m convinced they want Montero. Question is what else + it takes.

I’d definitely do Montero and Nova ++. Not sure if I want to go further.

Upton is easy. Towers owes us. He likes pitching.

    ;)

  28. Erin July 26th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

Hi Comet! The weather finally broke over the weekend, so it’s no longer 100 degrees. This is a very good thing.

    kate was around this AM

  29. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

    ID,
Would you trade one of the Bs and Montero for him?

  30. Melk Man July 26th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

“Will Soriano agree to pitch against a team as bad as the Mariners?”

Yes, but then he will take the series against the Orioles off because he doesn’t want division rivals to learn his ‘secret’.

It is still questionable as to whether or not he will pitch in the Chicago series. If they get on a little run, he probably won’t because they will be considered a good team. And forget about him in the Boston series afterwards.

  31. LGY July 26th, 2011 at 3:55 pm

    I like when Cervelli plays.

  32. Erin July 26th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Shame- Joelsherman1 #Rays had scout watching #Nationals Triple-A team yest, more fuel that Wash is pushing for BJ Upton

  33. Shame Spencer July 26th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Tom – I think the posters before got it right, as long as theres this much mediocrity ..uhm..excuse me..”parody” in the league, the blockbusters will be few and far between at every deadline.

When I think that some people seriously want a hard cap on baseball I cry… it’d be like this but even less interesting.

So now that Chavez is back. Does that mean hes the third baseman and Nunez goes to the bench or does he take some of Posadas dh role?

  39. Shame Spencer July 26th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Thanks Erin. I’m curious to see what the Rays do at this point. They’re the type of organization that will only be good for 2-4 year windows at a time and then have to unload and rebuild. And I don’t think thats based just in their philosophy. The fact that they play in the AL East is a big contributor.

  40. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I hope the Rays trade Upton soon. They won’t get much for him and it will set the market for Colby Rasmus – forcing the Cards to come down on their demands for “a TON”.

Please, SF Giants, don’t be shy.

Just think next year, when the league adds two more wild card teams. How many teams will feel they are out of the race July 31st? Hopefully the trading deadline will be moved forward a few weeks.

  44. luis July 26th, 2011 at 4:02 pm

    Hi everybody,

Interesting trade proposals, my two cents: I think the yankees will make a trade for a true elite pitcher or they will stand pat, which is the way i think they will go, there is no sense of trading prospects if the upgrade doesn`t take us to the next level, we already can make the play offs with the team we have.

Having said that, they might try to get a bat or/and they will finally promote The Jesus to the big leagues, i would do both. Beltran and Montero can you imagine that line up???

  45. joeman July 26th, 2011 at 4:02 pm

so lets see how long Chavez hangs…my bet not long

  46. G. Love July 26th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Might as well play Chavez all week and see if he makes it healthy to the deadline.

  47. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

    Blake,

I think you could include Montero + G. Sanchez for Ubaldo Jimenez because you still have Martin + Cervelli as a bridge to Romine + JR Murphy. The rationale behind my offer for Jimenez is by including Sanchez, you protect Manny Banuelos from the deal and still remain close to the Rox original demands.

As for Nova vs. Noesi. Nova has more trade value than Noesi so I’d want to keep Nova out of the deal and flip him for an OF.

  48. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Where are all those INSIDERS we used to have i.e. bobcat and Lost. I miss having my ear to the cup listening in. Wheres SJ when you need him. This week is killing me. Its only Tuesday and I want to open up our deadline present already!

  49. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 4:03 pm

I expect at least 1 major deal before the TD is over.

It may not be the Yankees though.

    Happens just about every year.

One completed trade would give some idea about what the market is really like.

  58. blake July 26th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

SI_JonHeyman 6 mins strong belief now best beltran offer may come from #rangers. 1 hangup: he prefers nl. atl, sf, milw still in, #tradedeadline

Considering there is a good.chance the Yankees play the Rangers in the first round……that wouldn’t be good. Their lineup is already real good.

  59. G-C July 26th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Honestly, there’s not nearly enough evidence that Ubaldo Jimenez has the command necessary to succeed in the AL East.

I don’t make much of his slightly bloated ERA this year because this has been a very, very strange year for pitchers, one that by its end may have us reevaluating the standards for what defines an effective pitcher (a 4.00 ERA innings eater may no longer be distinguished as a #2 or #3 starter but rather as a #4 or #5).

But he’s struggled with command his entire career and despite electric stuff, has never posted particularly exceptional strikeout numbers.

If he can’t whiff a batter an inning in the NL, facing the pitcher, with that kind of stuff, you better not believe he’ll come close to doing so in the AL. And facing patient AL lineups on a regular basis is almost certain to cause his already inflated walk rate to rise over 4 per nine.

A guy who walks 4 per nine and only strikes out (at most) 8ish per nine in the AL?

    No thanks.

I wouldn’t even entertain the idea of trading Montero for him.

Especially considering that the Yankees need to KEEP offense, not trade it.

Offense is the biggest need in this organization. Banuelos and Betances are to me far more expendable than Montero.

And for the record, Hector Noesi should (and probably does) have more trade value than Nova because he’s a lot better than Nova, and it doesn’t take an astute talent evaluator to see that.

  60. LockDown July 26th, 2011 at 4:15 pm

    Chavez!!!! :D

  61. Jerkface July 26th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

The red sox and rangers both want Beltran. The Yankees should trade for him simply to snub both of those teams AND upgrade their offense with a high average, high on base, high power bat that can push Swisher to DH and get Jorge’s limp bat out of the everyday lineup.

  62. luis July 26th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

    blake July 26th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Does beltran has a no trade option right?

  65. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

    MTU,
Monteros bags have been packed since last year. We need the who what when wheres. I need my deadline fix. Give me some rumor nuggets. Hell lie to me, I dont really care at this point.

  66. Irreverent Discourse July 26th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

SoS – I would trade any prospect for a player like Justin Upton, probably 2.

Prospects are only potential, and have no guaranteed value. Even a guy like Montero who has been touted to high heaven could only hope to be as good a player as Upton has already become.

  67. Jerkface July 26th, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Prospects are only potential, and have no guaranteed value

Players are only potential as well with no guaranteed value :) Adam Dunn, Carl Crawford, Jayson Werth, Javy Vazquez

  68. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 4:21 pm

    Jerkface,
Doesnt he have a no trade clause. You would think with him wanting to stay in the NL that maybe playing for the team your idol played for would be an exception and give us the upper hand. Time to put Bernie to work.

  69. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Check out these potential deadline hauls.

    Which one would you pick?

    D)Colby Rasmus + Matt Garza

    A)Ubaldo Jimenez + Matt Thornton

    B)Gio Gonzalez + David DeJesus

    C)Matt Kemp + Erik Bedard

    D)Colby Rasmus + Matt Garza

    ————

Wow. Those are 4 great deals.

The safest package is probably Rasmus-Garza. We know what Garza can do in the AL East and there are not many question marks with him. Rasmus, at worst is a .770 OPS outfielder who will likely benefit from a change of scenery and playing home games in NYS.

The most expensive package will probably be Kemp, but he is the best player in any of these proposals. Bedard is a huge gamble – bad clubhouse guy, injury prone and 50/50 as to whether he will even take the mound in October.

Jimenez/Thorton is the biggest gamble with the highest upside. We could be getting a legit #1 starter making peanuts for 4 years and a stud lefty set up man, or AJ Burnett part 2 and an erratic Boone Logan clone.

Gio/DeJesus… that package only yields 1 impact player. DeJesus doesn’t do much to upgrade the offense, probably just a bat off the bench. Gio would be good, but not nearly as good outside the AL West/Oakland, yet his pricetag would be a guy that he is in OAK. By far the “worst” package for me.

If I’m giving up big prospects, give me the only sure thing of this group – Matt Kemp. As be becomes the cornerstone of the team hitting 40 bombs and playing GG defense. I’ll gamble on Bedard, expecting nothing though. So the Bedard/Kemp package.

    :(

  103. LGY July 26th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

SoS –I would trade any prospect for a player like Justin Upton, probably 2

    ——

Hey! You were killing J Up this winter when we all wanted him.

  104. CountryClub July 26th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

BJ Upton has a ton of talent. But haven’t we (as fans) seen enough of him to realize he doesnt turn that talent into results? Personally, I would hate to see him on the Yanks (not that he’s coming here anyway, because there’s no room for him).

  105. SoS July 26th, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Maybe Kershaw could sedate him by using horse tranquilizers ?

    ========

    MTU,
No! No! No! Youd think with all thats happened recently you would have learned from it. That would mean we would have Kemp for 50 less games. Bad idea. Time for Alex to refuel that jet.

  107. spidanyc July 26th, 2011 at 4:41 pm

Bottom line is that the Yankees need a #2 starter and the only available starter that fits the description is Ubaldo. Get it done Cashman – Nova, Noesi, JR Murphy, Laird and Nunez.

  108. blake July 26th, 2011 at 4:41 pm

  112. tomingeorgia July 26th, 2011 at 4:43 pm

That’d be three major league players for one starter with questions. Why?

  113. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

It would be cool if Felix Hernandez just walks across the field tonight between innings, plants his fanny right next to Freddy Garcia and refuses to leave the Yankees dugout.

    That would be special.

His contract isn’t THAT bad…..he’s better than Lackey and the Astros would probably eat some of it. You might be right but I think they might would consider it for next year as well……and I agree wit you on BJ……he’d be tough to watch on a daily basis and Yankee fans would destroy him for some of the lack of effort stuff he does.

  123. CountryClub July 26th, 2011 at 4:51 pm

    Blake,

According to Sherman, Astros have come down in their demands for players in return as long as someone takes his whole deal. Their owner wants to get payroll down to 60 mil (various sources), so I cant see them eating any of his deal.

The Yanks dont like the contact either, but if they dont have to give up anything real in return, they may change their mind.

  124. blake July 26th, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Wandys contract is 3/34…..its not a good contract but its not John Lackey or AJ bad. I don’t want him…..I just said I wouldn’t be shocked if the Sox did because he’d be their #4 and.better than Lackey, Wakefield, and all the other fillers they’ve been throwing out there.

I’m not sure who exactly, but I just remember all the news from the different writers broke within seconds of on another. Though the first report was that the Yankees were informed by the agent that they were ‘out’ of the race. Only like 10 mins later did the news break that it was the Phillies.

It’s not Wandy’s contract I find objectionable, it’s Wandy himself. I don’t see him as a clear upgrade over anyone in the Yankee rotation.

He’s been thriving pitching for a team that stinks in the NL Central – I certainly don’t trust him enough to thrust him into the AL East in the middle of a pennant race.

  131. blake July 26th, 2011 at 4:58 pm

    MtU,

I think they’ll try to hang on to Pence for now as he’s their best player and he’s controlled through 2013. Im.sure they’d deal him if someone wanted to pay a lot…..I don’t think he’s that type of player though. Love to have him…..just not enough to convince an unmotivated seller to sell him.

Luis I have been to Venezuela many times. If you live there you will be able to answer this question easily. And there is no one in Venezuela that wouldn’t know the answer.

“There was a very famous ad campaign, that was the talk of the country for a long time. What was it?”

  147. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 5:14 pm

    Blake,

    Why showcase Ubaldo now?

    It’s simple.

    The market lacks frontline starters.

The scarcity inflates the price of Ubaldo.

  148. MTU July 26th, 2011 at 5:14 pm

  154. Bret The Hitman July 26th, 2011 at 5:19 pm

    Blake,

The same market this winter? Perhaps.

But maybe the Rox are reading it differently.

They have a guaranteed inflated price now.

Why wait longer for merely a chance at a potentially inflated price this winter?

It’s a guaranteed inflated market for frontline starters now and the Rox don’t need Jimenez for their playoff hopes. They’re out.

  157. Irreverent Discourse July 26th, 2011 at 5:20 pm

LGY – Make no mistake, I wasn’t killing people for wanting Upton. I was the one arguing that no amount of prospects were going to tear him away from Arizona this year. That’s not to say I wouldn’t give up some prospects to get him, he’s awesome… but to some the cost of business and their willingness to give up players never cross paths.

Jerkface – I would imagine that the list of established major leaguers that plummet in value after a trade pales in comparison to the list of top50 prospects that have missed.

If the Reds are able to build a package around Homer Bailey for Ubaldo, then Cashman better throw Hughes in there since they are same age/same hype except Hughes had an All Star appearance already.

Trade Hughes, Nova, Romine and some lesser guys for Ubaldo and call it a day. The Reds have already taken Chapman and their 1 prospect C off the table in talks according to the reports.

    =======================================

I know I’m a guest here (and I really try to be a good one) but sometimes I feel like quite the ‘wall-flower’ … as I have addressed this “assumption” more than once.

Granted, I’m not actually in the clubhouse, but I have never once heard it reported that any of Erik’s teammates, coaches or managers have a problem with his character. In fact, quite the opposite has been reported – he is respected and admired for his attitude an work ethic. The only “group” that had problems with Erik early on in his tenure with Seattle was the media. The rode him hard for his rather ‘curt’ responses in pressers and post game interviews. But, once they got the gist of his dry sense of humor, and the fact that he doesn’t like to talk about himself much, they let it be.

Now, as for the injury concern… I’m right there with ya.

GLove, give me a break – you missed the point. I happen to agree with you about Phil……MY POINT was that if you see those things in Phil, why on earth would the Rockies want him? Would you care to explain why the Rockies would want him?

That’s fantastic that you would prefer Jimenez over Hughes – so would 99.99 % of Yankee fans…………but while Jimenez might eventually come here, it’s not going to be for Hughes.

Wasnt Homer and Hughes ranked one and two in baseball for pitching prospects a few years ago?

Any truth to the Carlos Pena post?

Way to completely misread my post, though – what’s next? Igawa for Jimenez?

The Yankees aren’t going to make any MAJOR deals at the trade deadline. They have the Wildcard wrapped up and aren’t going to throw good money after bad to try to catch Boston for 1st place in the AL East.

The only type of deal they might make would be for a second LOOGY and they aren’t going to give up much to get him.

Fantasizing about trades: How many would do: Montero, Betances, Nova, and Gardner for King Felix?

Why is that dead beat Posada hitting in front of Chavez?

In fact why is he even in the lineup, Nunez is hitting 50 points higher, & adds speed & a more dynamic offensive threat than that shot 40 yr. old S.O. & G.I.D.P. machine.

I’m a firm believer that the Yankees have all the pieces they need to field a World Series winning team. The pieces just need to play better.
