Yankees alter rotation, Nova on Thursday

The rotation is the same for today, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Yankees have changed Thursday’s starter to Ivan Nova, leaving Bartolo Colon, CC Sabathia and Freddy Garcia to start the weekend series in Boston.
Nova just finished throwing a bullpen with Larry Rothschild.
Good call….
Though i would rather have Colon/CC/Nova going against Boston.
Freddy has been great, but didn’t Boston whoop him last time?
Not surprising, giving the old dudes an extra day of rest.
At least we get Lackey finally….
Lester-Colon on Friday
CC- Beckett on Saturday
Garcia- Lackey on Sunday

This series against the Red Sox is going to be fun. I like what Girardi’s doing with the lineup lately. It seems he’s distributing playing time well and getting good production out of a number of guys. Jeter’ production is up lately. Posada’s. Swisher’s. Cervelli’s.

IF that is close to true, then it is clear there is a HUGE yankee tax. Hughes and Nova are major league starters. Nova has 9 wins and Hughes won 18 last year. Did Cleveland have to give up two MLB starters and two of their top three prospects?
I say good call holding onto the system….

Well, CC is overdue for a win against Boston so here’s hoping.
It’s going to be crappy on here if we go up there and get pounded like last time. CC needs to get his head out of his arse against them this year, and match Beckett this time around.
Garcia/Lackey is a crap shoot.
Has Lester been okay since coming back? I haven’t seen him.
Garcia is a much better pitcher than Lackey at this point.

Can we please give some love to Garcia!! How is he equal to Lackey? The man has a 3.2 era and has been way more than ever expected. Yet some still think hes going to fall off. Lackey is going to be one of the biggest albatross contracts ever. Its August folks. It is what it is. Cashman found two tweener pitchers to bridge the gap to the youngins. I give him lots of props for not panicking this past off season. If history means anything. We will dominate the sox these next two months. I call a sweep this up coming series. Take that to the bank.
Burnett is a disaster against the Sux. Colon, CC and Freddy is the best we got right now.
Bedard could be Nick Johnson’s cousin sharing the same hospital room. The guy is an injury waiting to happen. Good luck Sux.

Actually, no, it’s not. If you are an ace, and go into Boston and have your cake fed to you, you can be dogged for not showing up all day long. He’s great, for sure, but he’s yet to pitch against them as well as he can. That’s alll…no crime in saying that.
Howard – Not necessarily. CC has a tendency (like most pitchers) to give up runs early and settle down and shut teams down for 5-6 innings. If he gives up 4 runs in the first inning are you going to pull him?

Fair or not, he is judged by how he does against Boston and other top offensive teams, not the Ms and Orioles.
He has been very pedestrian against the Sox, Tigers, and Rangers this year – the 3 other playoff teams in the AL.

CC pitched well in all three games against the Sox except he ran into trouble in the seventh inning in both games games 2 and 3 and Robertson didn’t bail him out. Our bullpen is better now and there’s no reason to think CC will pitch poorly.

Why, there is no premium for winning the AL East. Both the Yankees & Red Sox are on a trajectory to make the playoffs, so there is no reason to go into Boston with an attitude like its the playoffs.
Major League Baseball has destroyed the concept of rivalries by having Wildcards. The NFL did the same thing when they added so many teams to the palyoffs. The Cowboys vs the Redskins in the regular season used to mean something because the loser would either be out of the playoffs of would miss out on a bye. The Yankees and the Red Sox are in the same position. As long as they both make the playoffs, it doesn’t matter who finishes first.

But we all know Girardi will give the 3rd start to AJ and Nova won’t sniff the playoff rotation unless he forces his way on it down the stretch.
I’m okay with Freddy in a big game. I know the Red Sox are going to hit him, but the man is one of the rotation stalwarts this season.
I expect some magic from him and Colon this post season.
If you want to see AJ not be in the rotation come playoff time, root for Nova to continue to force his way into the mix.
Anyone else think Nova is not going back down? It will be Hughes unless he blows people away that either gets put in the bullpen or goes to AAA.
I think you have to give AJ the 2nd start because this year he understands how important he is to the team.

I could be wrong, but I doubt that Montero will come to the Bronx before the September callups. Right now spots on the 25 man roster are tight and will get even tighter when ARod returns in 2 weeks. Its the dog days of summer and the Yankees wnat to carry as many pitchers as they can to avoid overworking any of them. Cervelli is a viable ML backup catcher right now and will not go down to the minors to make room for Montero. So, unless Posada retires or Andruw Jones gets hurt Montero will stay in Scranton.
There is no room for Hughes in the pen.

Martin has caught CC 14 times, I don’t think there is any personal catching going on. Just so happens CC ends up starting day game after night game or whatever.

Thats not going to happen until September. The Yankees will be on the road through most of the regular season and are not going to leave themselves without an experiencede Major League backup catcher.
If however, Andruw Jones, Jorge Posada or Eric Chavez need to go to the DL the Yankees might bring Montero to DH…but are not going to hurt themselves behind the plate by putting Montero there.

As odd as it may, certain pitchers pitched differently to catchers. Even in minnesota, mauer does not catch a ceratin pitcher and also mccann does not catch a certain pitcher. The idea is catcher needs rest anyway so why not for a particular pitcher.

I.D. when we went to registration, I couldnt get it registered with them. The good thing about it is

There’s a bunch I can picture sharing a beer and watching a game. I think we’d all look at one another quite differently if we could see each other cheering (in whatever form that takes) live watching TV or at a game. The glue that binds us together is something you can’t see, so I think in some respects the internet damages fan relationships. Take me for instance, I might bash the living daylights out of a player – like I recently did with Nick Swisher calling him Swish cheez but if you could see me in person at a game, I’d go nuts if he made a big play or got a big hit. I remember saying that he sucks s*** at a game and then he hit a HR and made a diving catch. Some folks turned around and said “Still think Swisher sucks s***”. They were his neighbors. I was cheering and laughing. We all laughed. Frustration is a normal fan reaction but it’s often the only one you can observe online. That same game I started a Derek Jeter chant – in Atlanta. I was screaming at the top of my lungs the whole game. It was a blast. If you saw that in me or if I saw that in someone like let’s say Stuart a, I’d probably have a softer spot for ‘em if you know what I mean.

If you refresh it goes to your last post automatically. If you didn’t adblock, the big flash ad at the top of the page will further scroll you down automatically. Thats the culprits right there.

mick – if you just hit “refresh” the page should load, then “pop” not scroll to the spot you were last looking at.
If you are not blocking ads, the page should then “move down” as the flash ad’s load at the top of the page, it would seem like you were scrolling up a little while this is happening… but this should be after it initially pops down to the place you were looking at.

I love the non moves that Cashman has made. He put his money where his mouth is, in the farm system. It’s been years in the making, but it looks like we’re about to hit the real critical mass with our kids.
Working in Montero and Banuelos sooner than later will be the next step, and we’ll see from there.
I’m also interested to see how Jimenez handles. Obviously I’ve made a few points that we shouldn’t have traded for him. I don’t think he’ll carry the Indians into and through the playoffs, but we will see.
