If Ivan Nova is about to be bumped from the rotation, he’s not going down without a fight. With 7.2 brilliant innings tonight, the Yankees rookie starter pitched the team to a 7-2 win Chicago and moved them into a tie for first place heading into this weekend’s series in Boston. The Red Sox lost, and the Yankees have now won seven in a row. The end result was lopsided, but Nova did most of his pitching in a tight ball game. The Yankees took the lead on Brett Gardner dash for home on a ground ball in the sixth, and they put it out of reach on Russell Martin’s towering three-run homer in the ninth. Robinson Cano also homered tonight.
