Weather: Clear, 80
Umpires: Phil Cuzzi HP, Tom Hallion 1B, Bill Miller 2B, James Hoye 3B
Vs. Lefties: The Yankees are 25-9 vs. lefty starters, winning seven straight.
Update, 7:14: Sabathia has a 1-2-3 first. Meanwhile, A-Rod homers for Single-A Tampa in his first rehab at-bat at Dunedin.
Update, 7:18: Price gives up a single to Jeter in the first at-bat of their rematch from the 3,000 game. But Jeter is stranded at second.
Update, 7:25: Two perfect innings for Sabathia.
Update, 7:33: 1-2-3 second for Price, with two Ks.
Update, 7:37: Casey Kotchman reaches the second deck in right, 1-0 Tampa Bay.
Update, 7:41: Well, that was some shot by Kelly Shoppach to the left-center bleachers, just to the left of the bullpen. Back-to-back homers.
Update, 7:42: RBI double for A-Rod in his second at-bat. Maybe he doesn’t need four rehab games.
Update, 7:46: Damon homers to right, three homers in the inning. Good thing Sabathia isn’t pitching for his spot in the rotation.
Update, 7:55: Price gets Jeter to bounce into an inning-ending double play in the third, not quite revenge for giving up No. 3,000.
Update, 8:15: RBI double for Andruw Jones, but Swisher is out at the plate, 3-1 after four.
Update, 8:18: Elliot Johnson leads off with a homer, fourth of the game for the Rays. A career high for homers allowed in a single game for CC. It’s 4-1.
Update, 8:31: 4-1 after five. Second 1-2-3 inning for Price.
Update, 8:34: A-Rod struck out in his third at-bat.
Update, 8:55: Four hits for the Yankees after six against Price.
Update, 8:57: Rather good inning for Russell Martin, sliding, rolling catch on a foul ball and throwing out Johnson trying to steal.
Update, 9:08: Heading for the eighth, 4-1. Only five hits for the Yankees after Swisher’s leadoff single led to nothing.
Update, 9:11: Five solo homers allowed by Sabathia. Longeria flies one to the Yankees’ bullpen.
Update, 9:24: Sabathia is done. Ayala will take the ball for the ninth. Price has thrown 114 pitches through eighth, one run, six hits allowed.
Update, 9:41: Joel Peralta will try to close it out.
Update, 9:46: The Yankees announced they’re having a ceremony to honor Jeter for getting 3,000 hits. It will be prior to Saturday’s game. Fans are requested to be in their seats at 3:45.
Update, 9:50: Yankees lose, 5-1.

CC very sharp early
Hank should raise the yankee debt ceiling!
cc being cc!
Took a dinner break, sorry to refer to last thread but: Go Cashman!

Does anyone here have a jail broken ipad2?
think price was dreading seeing jeter walk up to bat?
Jeter now hitting .550 vs lefties since coming off the DL
Jeter owns Price
Seeeing eye hit, but nice piece of hitting from the captain
CC looks good early.
Hi kd!!!
Well anyway, go Yankees!!!
Enjoy the game (thread). Hopefully the forum won’t be shorted out from tears tonight.
Adios, muchahas and muchachos!
Tex robbed early
When Arod comes back I would love to see Grandy/Arod/Cano back to back. It would never happen but Tex is in his own world and their 3 best hitters all back to back would be awesome.
Betances vs Bryce Harper tonight!
what’s up trisha? i said hi yesterday, but it seems that you had already gone. great to see you on here
Stll waiting for the call………..
kd, leaving for now because game threads are not my favorite but will be back to throw in my two cents!!!
Happy to be back here, at least part time!
The slider is biting tonight, good sign
this team will have a very different feel with jeter hitting 300 after the dl and arod back.
22 pitches, 2 innigs, The man is dealing

It’s going to be scary good, a perfect round line up
Meant circular line up
Betances strikes out Bryce Harper swinging on a CB.
luis is a fraud
luis is none other than 9 R C
did girardi ever explain why cervelli was pulled in the second inning the other game?
And i am the psicho here???, lol…..get a life, still waiting for the call
As if the rays broadcast couldnt get any worse, they bring Ken Rosenthal up to the booth. Awesome.
A-Rod doubles. The ball was hit so hard it took first baseman John Talley’s glove off. Not even kidding.
Damn!!!!
It’s amazing how Tampa always finds these scrubs to have career years
Jerk,
Doesn’t he work for fox???
luis, anyone who talks baseball here is AOK with me. no one cares about these karmic tug o’ wars between people whom nobody knows.
so whoever is whomever, just talk about the yankees. that’s what folks are here for, at least, the saner ones.
that’s alright. he frankly got a little lucky there. one run won’t kill him
the yankee bats just need to pick cc up
Bad C.C.
yankfem, wish we had video. maybe because it’s bryce some lunatic is gonna post a home video on youtube. there’s a really nice clip floating around of Dellin K’ing Domonic Brown.
CC may be in one of those stretches. Maybe the knee is bothering him…
WTH ????
What is Russel Martin doing back there? Stop calling the HR pitch
Dump CC from the rotation.
CC has to start hitting his spots
Get Cervelli in there ASAP
Yanks two most important players are struggling badly now
If it were Jorge, & not the new Thurman Munson back there, we’d hear how Jorge can’t call a game…
Cervelli can pitch?
That was hit into Jeter territory.
Faustian bargain?
Pruf, it’s likely that there is video for the K.
Atta boy, settle down Big C.
Verlander at this point is running away with the CY Young..
NH, I’ll worry if it lasts or if it comes out that both or either are hurt…
Cervelli can pitch?
–
CC can’t pitch without his caddy!
*of* the K
The new Munson? You mean the guy who’s second in the league in errors?
Damn another one!!
Jap,
Thank you, and i know, you have always been a very nice poster here, along with some others…But i gave them all the info they needed to really find out…so far nothing, and their act it’s getting old and tiresome, but your are right lets stick to baseball.
Verlander has the easiest delivery on earth I think. He has some crazy offseason routine he & his dad cooked up years ago that preserves & maximizes velocity. He’s a freak of nature, too…
Maybe CC will lose his starting spot. JK
NYY fan in NH,
Weaver says not so fast
just to clear up a few misconceptions..
IPK was not a complimentary piece in the Granderson trade he was 1 of the main pieces to the deal getting done in the sense that the Diamondbacks were very high on him and preferred him long term to Scherzer who they thought would break down. They had a choice behtween IPK and Hughes and wanted IPK as they felt he was the more seasoned prospect based on his college & pro career accomplishments combined ( seems they were right on both counts so far )
The Yanks certainly haven’t given up on Hughes yet and Phil has noone to blame for his predicament but himself. He seemed unprepared for the start of the season, pitched poorly and and hasn’t yet earned the benefit of the doubt so far and he’s allowed Nova to outpitch him so far YTD. It may not be the worst thing for him if he has to EARN his way back into the good graces of the decision makers.
In reality AJ has pitched alot better than he’s being given credit for…If you check his game logs you will see that very clearly. Having said that he seems to be fading here in AUG just like he did last year but I think you have to run him out there every 5th day and hope he gets back on track.
The most beneficial scenario for the Yanks is that AJ gets it together here down the stretch and throws really well increasing his value so that maybe that Yanks can trade him with cash in the offseason and open up a spot in the ‘ro next season for some youth i.e. Banny/Bettances/Noesi/Warren/Mitchell.
Bring back Arod tomorrow – Homer and Double in first 2 ABs.
luis, I can tell a good one…:D
ugh
what the hell CC
who is this guy and where is the real CC I want him back NOW!
C gives up another one….now, this is becoming so strange it can’t possibly be actually alarming, right??
I turned on the TV and I’m watching the home run derby. Is this all star week?
CC is not CC at this point.. This is getting unwatchable right now
3 HR is one inning.. Are you kidding me CC?? Can’t even count on our ace at this moment.
Have to change the game plan, they are guessing fastball inside…..and they are getting to it
It’s like they’re cheating a bit on that inside pitch
He is missing his spots really really bad. Everything is up in the zone. When he gets it down he is fine.
just glad they were all solo homers
wtf… CC is broken
I’m not worried about how Cc is looking right now… It’s just a blip
there you go… it’s a full moon
Still 3-0 against Price isn’t good. 3 solo shots or not, CC is struggling.
Kotchman, Shoppach and Damon aren’t exactly HR hitters either.
Nuñez and Gardner get on and double steal.
The Yankees will win this game tonight.
he’s not through his motion…maybe his knee has been crankly lately…something about that Oakland rain game troubled me at the time…the two breaks…everyone lighted on the Boston game, but I didn’t have a great feeling when he pitched reasonably well in Chicago right before that…maybe it’s just a little cranky, or maybe the extra day has him off track….not going to let imagination run away…he’ll be alright…
“Bring back Arod tomorrow – Homer and Double in first 2 ABs.”
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but he is facing minor league pitching.
Two high inside fastballs hit out, I can understand why CC had that “what the heck” look on his face.
kd August 12th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
there you go… it’s a full moon
///
I was wondering why people were extra edgy in the produce dept today, but this explains it…
And of course Nunez goes to the deepest part of the park for a RHH
Good news on Alex…thanks for updates
They have to raise Price’s pitch count up
I hope Alex brings the Jesus along with him!!!!
I went to the bathroom and the inning is over.. Geez!
JF,
Nunez has been hitting the ball with authority but nothing to show for it, some very good defensive plays from LAA kept him off the bases.
Sh……that was close
Yup, can’t wait to see Alex back.
Pruf, Betances throws up and in on Rahl (righty) and gets a called strike three. 46 pitches, 29 strikes through 3. Like that he is pitching inside. If he keeps pitch count down, do they let him pitch into the 7th? He is no where near his innings limit.
Warning track… Settle down, C.
No one is afraid of CC anymore
Kim Jones says that Nova is one of the starting five….Burnett not the number two, but a legit starter on the AL east…..i guess Hughes is going down…..don’t agree with it
Maybe Martin thinks he’s Cervelli b/c he is catching C?
Munson like throw from Russel Martin! Good thing he is hitting 220
Yankees are sloppy and CC is giving up loud outs.. Not sure this is their game tonight.
Sorry Cashman said, Jones was relaying the info
Hughes should go down.
If Prices still cannot hold 3 runs lead….
Which part of that couldn’t Montero have done just as badly????
Apparently part of Cashman’s defense of AJ’s, he said he gave up 4 runs in 6 innings vs a contending team.
LOL.
4 runs in 6 innings vs the Angels is apparently a good start now.
It seems like CC is tipping his pitches. The changeup was up in the zone but you don’t see batters have swings like the Rays and even the Sox had against him. It seemed like Damon and Kotchman were just waiting for the pitches. Rothschild should definitely look at the video.
the yankees need to put some mustard on their catchers.
“It seems like CC is tipping his pitches.”
isn’t martin the one accused of tipping pitches?
i honestly can’t see it if he is.
LGY, did he really say that?
Champ, I seriously doubt the Yankees offered Hughes up for Granderson
A-Rod K looking third AB.
Mo AND CC are struggling. Yikes.
Montero is watching, and saying, “I can’t be worse than that!”
This is turning into a yawner. Seeing a lack of energy tonight from the Yanks so far. Price is settling in a groove now.
CC was not good against the White Sox, so his start against the Red Sox might be just part of an overall slump and not “OMG, he can’t pitch against the Red Sox”. CC will be fine, but he was due for this given how unbelievably he’d pitched for so long.
yankeefeminista August 12th, 2011 at 7:59 pm

////
Well, no one can say that Dellin won’t pitch inside. I was hoping we could have brought him up when he was hitting 4 batters a game to pitch against Boston
.
If he keeps getting GOs & Ks, limits the BBs, I can see them taking advantage of his being on the 40. Not like they’d let Joba happen twice……….would they????
CC is channeling his inner AJ tonite – bizarro world with a full moon
Betsy August 12th, 2011 at 8:09 pm
Yes, he did….I guess they need an eye checkout, maybe they need glasses.
Cano!
I think Kay jinxed CC when he said “CC perfect through 2.”
Cashman is an idiot. He has become too big for his britches. He opens his mouth to the media when given the chance and he says the dumbest things. He actually claimed that Burnett gets no run support. Burnett gets 6.84 runs of support per game.
tomingeorgia August 12th, 2011 at 8:09 pm
Montero is watching, and saying, “I can’t be worse than that!”
///
adding, “No worries, C, I’ll get those 3 jacks back for ya.”
Get on base swisher, don’t swing to balls
attaboy, Swish!!!
Swish is slow
Luis, that’s ASININE. I get defending your own player, but 4 runs in 6 is good? He just sounds like a fool. He’s trying to justify the signing ( he doesn’t have to do that because I thought it was a good risk – they needed pitching and Lowe didn’t do it for me) which means he’s really defensive. If he wants to say that AJ has pitched better than Hughes, then say it – he’s said it before. If he wants to say he’s uncertain of what Phil could bring us, that he’s been erratic since his return, then say that. That’s all true and all rational. Part of it is that Phil coming into camp overweight really annoyed him ……..and so he’s not going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, AJ hasn’t been so terrible that he should be pulled.
Had to be greedy there.. Damnit!
JAP,
He added, “Get a couple of guys on in front of me, and all it’ll take is one.”
Cash pulled out the old run support nugget? He must be rubber man with all the reaching he’s doing
We got one back, now CC settle down we are wining this game
That took a perfect throw from Rodriguez. No surprise that it was perfect. It rarely is not.
Plain and simple, Burnett is only pitching cause he makes 16 mil. Igawa made 40 mil for pitching in AAA the last 4 years. Cashman should just fess up to his reasoning.
Maybe we see Montero Sept. 1st….maybe not..
munson, after he hurt his shoulder
Stop dissing cash, he’s doing just fine. -___-
Swish how could you possible touch the plate from that angle you took. Four HR’s for the Rays. CC is done. That is not what you do after your team gets a run back. Pissed!!
The .177 Johnson hit a HR off CC. CC just hit rock bottom LOL
Take CC out, this is embarrassing.
Unreal, four home runs given up by Sabathia. Anyone can have a bad game, but this is ridiculous.
Man, that one was right over the plate.
Jesus Christ.
This is making the Buccaneers-Chiefs preseason battle on FOX look very inviting..
I didn’t know this was possible
Get this man some Captain Crunch!
Thank God they are solo shots.
Ouch…………
he seems to be cutting himself off somehow…maybe he’ll get it out of his system all in one night
Betsy,
He had to defend the player….but he shouldn’t announce that the competition is over before Phil pitches tomorrow….in helping one of the players he threw another under the bus
Cc is having a blip too I guess.
that’s highly unusual right there
thats enough for me, why cano didn’t give way to swish on that I have no idea
I will not blame Robinson Carewski for that one. Difficult play with the wind.
are you kidding me ???
another dong. 2 to sub .200 hitters no less. not only can’t he beat boston he can’t even beat tampon bay
Did he say 7 HR’s in his last two starts. Cano what the hell are you doing out there?? This team deserves to get pounded tonight by Tampa. Mental mistakes are unreal tonight aside the 4 HR by CC.
I miss Damon!!!
Looks like Sabathia is the 6th man out…
Who would have guessed?
Sabathia’s Last Three Games:
18 IP – 24 hits – 12 runs
Take CC out and rest him for the game.
i would give signals as if someone is on second base at all times.
it’s like they know what’s coming.
Trenton ties it.
This isn’t a blip. This is a Solar Flare hitting the stadium tonight. Do you see Verlander having these types of games? Anyone please correct me here.
They deserve to get pounded? That’s pathetic to say.. they have been playing bad sure.. but we lost when are pitchers have rocky outtings.. we can ever score enough runs to help out a pitcher anymore.
sorry that’s the truth.. I have more faith in our pitching than I do our offense. Maybe Arod will help us a bit.. but it’s the entire team that just has absolutely no “clutch” at all.
Luis, yeah he did kind of throw Phil under the bus – well, I wouldn’t say that, but I would say he’s made it perfectly clear without saying it that Phil is not his priority – developing is not his priority any longer.
I wonder if Cervelli would have made a difference tonight ?!
CC needs to stop it at 4, he’s done one of those ‘no mas’ things before.
It must be “blip” week.
CC will be fine – I’m certainly not worried about him, though he’s just been terrible tonight
What’s ASININE is thinking Cashman would throw AJ to the vultures already circling the body.
He’s theirs. They need to make the best of it and calling out AJ publicly is not for the best.
why isn’t cervelli catching cc??? clearly the problem…
Verlander once gave up 3 HRs to the white sox this year!
Andruw still knows how to drift to the ball without wasting anything…some things you keep forever when you’ve been that good…
this game has all the earmarks of an eyesore.
Don’t ya love how ” luis ” plays the immigrant card every so often? So C R 9 it isn’t funny. Pretends to use the wrong word, like he doesn’t know English. When he’s on a roll and forgets himself watch him go to town. Sounds like an English teacher!

Talk baseball with the psycho. He’s laughing his ass off all the while. Just be careful bat doesn’t hite the ball! Right ” luis “?
18 IP – 24 hits – 12 runs
————————————
Ouch! He’s still got a few more innings to go tonight to add to that. How important is the progression of Nova to this staff now. CC struggling, Mo struggling. AJ but that’s not a surprise by any means.
yep lets keep developing phil , now is the time, phil is the #1 priority as he is yours’
Who said Cashman should call AJ out? I don’t even think AJ should be removed from the rotation……
I’m not sure what Verlander has to do with any of this, but whatever…
Betances going to the fifth…Yankfem, will they actually let him pitch a 6th inning? I’m on the edge of my seat…
NYYanksFan August 12th, 2011 at 8:25 pm
Nobody is questioning Cashman’s defense of Burnett, he could have done so in a diferent way…JMHO
Cashman will throw anyone to the vultures on any given day. He threw Posada to the vultures earlier this year.
Betsy, I think developing is a priority for Cashmoney. I just think he’s gone in a different direction… as in Nova, bringing up Banuelos and probably Betances. There might be something going on here with Hughes that we might not be privy too.
Martin is such a black hole in this lineup.
I still think we’re gonna win this game
whatever, pal…psyscho bin time…later
I would let Noesi start the 6th inning. CC has nothing, let him save the bulllets in his arm for another night. The Yanks have to look at video, the batters know what is coming. It’s obvious.
oh the love/hate for phil, agita at its ugly best/worst
yep cashman is a bad bad man, throw him to the wolves
Lockdown, yeah, I believe developing pitching is a priority, but I’m not sure developing Hughes is anymore. There are other young pitchers coming up and I really think he annoyed them by coming into camp out of shape.. I’m not saying they’ve given up on him yet, but I think the days of the Yankees going out of their way to clear a path for him are gone.
“He looks to me the same as he’s looked for years,” Girardi said. regarding Mo…
No Joe, He does not look the same as he has for years.. you F’N moron!!! He has been missing his spots all season… and the way Joe describes Mo’s situation is that one day Mo’s arm will just fall off and we’ll know he’s done…
My Dad said it best, “Mot ballplayers decline like puppies grow… when you get a puppy, a year later you have a dog. You don’t really get to see the puppy grow into a dog, but you look back and know he was once a puppy… ”
I probably didn’t do a good job recap what my dad said, but I think you get the point…
Anyway, I am not worried about Mo.. he’s still great and if he blows a couple games in a row.. well he’s human.. do I believe he is declining .. yes I do.. but more like the puppy analogy.. and I don’t think he is a dog yet.. How many saves does Mo have this year????
What sucks is when Mo gives up a run, are offense almost NEVER helps him out and bails him out.. Yes, I Know they have bailed him out before, but 9 out of 10 times they don’t!

—————————————–
Verlander also went 7 innings that night and won only giving up 4 hits and 8 k’s.
cashman blaming the “public’s” outcry over burnett’s crappy pitching because of his $82.5M contract. but that’s precisely the reason why burnett is still being considered in the rotation despite his awful performance. despite what cashman says burnett’s been god awful – almost from the beginning of that said contract. he’s still owed 1/2 of that and is virtually untradable. that’s why cashman defended him. got to love that yankee propaganda.
Verlander also went 7 innings that night and won only giving up 4 hits and 8 k’s.
–
CC has 1 more ER and 5 K’s in 5 Innings, he could turn it around!
Its physically impossible for CC to have pitched 7 innings with 8 K’s at this point in the game, but its a possible outcome!
Cashman really must think us fans are ignorant and gullable when it comes to his handling of Burnett.
Betsy, I don’t know if Cashmoney is holding a grudge about being overweight. I think it may be more about him & his scouts evaluating Hughes velocity issues & a concern about whether this is going to be an ongoing issue. He knows about his shoulder better than we do. Add that to him willing to trade him and I wonder if he’s thinking that Hughes may not be what they expect in the future. This could skew things and how they look at his potential going forward. I’m starting to believe that he sees a future 2013 rotation w/o Hughes.
Pruf, the radio guys bizarrely have Betances topping at 93. No way that is the case. I think Betances is around 80 pitches through 5, but haven’t looked. If he has a decent 6th, he should be good to go into the 7th.
Price is locking it down now, and C’s not locating.
looks like CC is still living in fenway nightmare.
That 4th HR he gave up killed any momentum the team had until Swish foolishy slid around the plate. As another double giving up by CC. Giving up some hard hit shots tonight.
yankfem, likely sitting…boy, not CC’s night…
“Swish foolishy slid around the plate”

Baseball Betsy has no idea what she’s talking about. Hughes DID NOT come into ST overweight. His target weight was 245# and he reported in at 243#. Hughes’ legs were not in good shape and he was assigned to extra conditioning. Now she has him with some attitude problem. Anyone who believes what Betsy is peddling is being mislead. Take her garbage with caution.

Thanks for putting to rest the garbage over Hughes weight. Of course she said (and I quote) he was sent to a “fat farm.” She has some pathological sick obsession with Hughes.

What great pitcher is that that I hate? I assume you have a few quotes in their entirety to prove your contention. I’m waiting.
Cashman told Sherman that Hughes was sent to the fat farm.
West Coast has set a new record, more than 28 hours on the blog!
talked to a person with strong ties to the Yankees who threw out a theory I had not yet heard on what happened to Phil Hughes’ velocity: He lost too much weight.
This person said that while everyone was focused on Joba Chamberlain’s weight gain and his having to go for individual workouts following the standard spring training workouts in order to shed pounds, it was missed by the media that Hughes also showed up overweight and was dispatched also to what the team refers to as “The Fat Farm.” This person said he believes Hughes is a player who needs the extra bulk to pitch and that it was possible the loss of the bulk explains the decreased velocity.
I asked Yankees GM Brian Cashman about the theory and he essentially said: “hogwash.” He did confirm that Hughes was sent to “The Fat Farm,” but said that he was not asked to drop below last year’s playing weight and, in fact, was still above it a bit when the season began. Cashman insisted that nothing drastic was needed because Hughes was “just a little out of shape.” He said rapid weight loss was not one of the theories the Yankees were considering in trying to figure out why Hughes’ fastball has been consistently 3-6 mph lower than last year.

How could the Yanks mishandle these young pitchers letting them show up overweight in ST. Don’t they have anybody to check on these guys during the offseason to make sure they are near shape. Especially after babying Joba and Phil all these years. Seriously??
boy are we sloppy today, offense and defense…what’s going on
Yankees4ever or whoever you all are,
This is the last time i will answer to you, lets review the whole incident:
First you acused me of being this guy….I tell everyone my name and give you an e-mail, then I e-mail Chad to please clear me out…he does…..you say that i have a program to hide my ip address and that the e-mail i gave belongs to a woman in Oregon(a blatant lie, just aske some of the posters here)….I get mad, but follow several posters advice to just ignore it….the poster WCYF, helps me out to tell something that only a venezuelan would know and i do….you acuse me again and again, so i give more info including address of my office and the telephones ( still waiting for your call) thinking that you were acting in good faith, and that you might be afraid to send an e-mail…..What do you do?……you say i hacked a poor guy of his info….Why don’t you call and find out? if it’s true that i hacked that info you can check it out by calling…. But NO!!!!, you keep your attack!….
That leaves two logical answers:
1) You are in need of profesional help, because the traits i’m finding are from a delusional, paranoid personality that will do anything to keep his fantasy going, regardless of the actual facts.
2)You are a mean spirited human being that doesn’t deserves my atention anymore, that unfortunately has some pull among some of the regular bloggers in here, therefore your undeserved credibility.
Either way i don’t care anymore…..enjoy your rants….
Athletic play by Russell. Nice!

How about your dozens of posts the past few days about how Mo might be done or is in decline or age may have caught up with him? Screams passive aggressive. Of course also how no one is afraid of Mo anymore.
*****************
Nice try. I don’t want your lies, I want the exact and entire posts.
I do happen to believe that teams do not fear Mo like they used to. That’s not hatred at all, that is an opinion based on what I observe. He used to be automatic, there was a resignation that the game was over when he came in. I don’t think that exists anymore.
The other thing I said is that no one knows if a 41 going on 42 year old pitcher is experiencing an age related decline.
Stop telling lies ok?
Great play by Martin
One thing about it is Joe rides CC all night no matter what. Good or bad. Won’t pull him.
He used to be automatic, there was a resignation that the game was over when he came in. I don’t think that exists anymore.

He has a career save rate of 89%
What Luis says is true, leave him alone, he is who he says he is. There is not an iceberg’s chance in hell that anyone who didn’t live in Venezuela could have answered the question I asked him.
I’m not saying CC can’t redeem himself and make it respectable numbers tonight, but the 4 HR allowed is alarming and over the past couple games.
No one is capable of googling famous venezuelan advertisements, Venezuela doesnt even have the internet!

I gave you the numbers. He was not over target weight. He was not conditioned. If Cashman says Hughes was over his target weight, then Cashman changed his target weight over the off season.
Are you Phil Hughes?
Run it Out,
And we should believe you as a source on this, why?
I’m on the light rail to Safeco Field and there appear to be more Red Sox fans than Mariners fans …
Can I get a couple hearty “Go Mariners!”?
My team could use a little ‘mystique and aura’ in their corner the next 3 games
Pat M said Hughes was overweight, and he once golfed
I thought they had sent Phil to Fatburger to get some shakes?
that is an opinion based on what I observe.
——————-
So Betsy’s opinion based on what she observes is passive aggressive hatred but when you do the same thing it is not?
Interesting.
Jerkface August 12th, 2011 at 8:58 pm
He has a career save rate of 89%.

Yes. That’s why he is the greatest relief pitcher to ever play the game. But he isn’t the pitcher he was in some respects and there is nothing wrong with that, he is 41 going on 42. Mo at his level is still better than anyone else in the game; it’s all relative.
I just don’t think the intimidation factor exists to the extent it used to. Maybe I am wrong, it’s my perception watching other teams when they face him. They seem more confident and aggressive.

No, his consistency and long career are why he is the greatest reliever ever. Other closers have had more dominant save seasons and save rates.

This offense is really going to stink it up against good pitchers in the play offs. Cano and Granderson are the engines that go and if they are shut down no one does anything.
Pruf, the Admiral has no command (pun intended).

Ground Out City.
And these smoking commercials should be banned. They are a form of torture.
Does it really matter if Hughes was out of shape or overweight ? Bottom line is he was sent to a special program for people that didn’t meet the Yankees standard. A-rod didnt have to go to that place. Jeter didn’t.
Maybe CC is struggling with the extra day’s rest………he’s been better on 3 than 5

I just don’t get why Joe lets CC continue to pitch on nights like this. Cmon Joe get him out of there and save some bullets. No way he should’ve still been in there for the 8th. It’s just ridiculous.
C will bounce back. Things are going too wrong for him not to reverse course, unless there’s a hidden injury…
also swisher thrown out at home twice recently.
he refuses to run over the catcher and therefore he was toast again.
if it was a playoff game would he have run over the catcher??
ayala ready to implode…..
Nunez is a pathetic fielder.
Nunez has no idea what to do at 3rd base
C probably insisted…
stop throwing around words like “pathetic” when they don’t apply. he’s a kid learning 3B. It’s not his natural position…geez…
the coolest thing to happen to me today that was related to the Yankees was eating a sandwich named ‘The New York Yankee’. it had pastrami, corn beef, swiss cheese, and mayo on rye bread. it was f-cking awesome.
I don’t get why they didn’t pull CC after six and let Noesi pitch a couple of innings. He’s like the forgotten man in the bullpen. If you’re not going to use the kid, shoulda sent him back to Scranton awhile ago so he could have pitched.
Considering how many innings CC has thrown this year Girardi has to pick his spots on when he can rest him. Tonight was a perfect time. If he has nothing left in October he can thank Girardi since he will be on fumes by then.
C probably wanted to remain in the game
LOL, Don Zimmer!
great….
Captain Clutch,
Agreed. Sabathia is on pace to throw something along the lines of 250+ innings this year. Its not 1950 anymore. They need to find a way to limit the big man’s work load.
I agree on managing his innings at this point, but you’ve got your ace pissed off to boiling point & says he wants to stay in, you don’t take the ball from him…
J. Alfred Prufrock August 12th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
stop throwing around words like “pathetic” when they don’t apply. he’s a kid learning 3B. It’s not his natural position…geez…
pa·thet·ic – adjective
1. causing or evoking pity, sympathetic sadness, sorrow,
2. miserably or contemptibly inadequate: In return for our investment we get a pathetic three percent interest.
If that above is not the definition of Nunez in the field I don’t know what is. He is most notably miserable and inadequate, which brings lots of sadness and sorrow.
I think Pathetic fits Nuney’s defensive prowless just fine.
LGY
“In fact, I personally measured the fat index of his man boobs.”
Surprised this statement doesn’t get a “therapist” remark from your friend Betsy.
he’s not pathetic, he’s a work in progress at 3B. The guy is a SS, then a 2B.

C probably wanted to remain in the game
————-
Who cares what he wants. He had nothing tonight and it’s Girardi’s job to protect him. I believe he and Verlander have thrown the most pitches in baseball this year and his arm will be toast by October.
Free Jesus!
Let’s get Farnsy into this game.
Noesi is probably being saved for Hughes.
As for Nunez? They should really try him in the outfield.
At least C’s velo was still up there late. So no worries there. Just has to locate better.
Nunez has always been a butcher in the field. He will probably get a little better but defense is not one of his strong suits.
The best part watching baseball tonight was the A-Rod minor league clip.
I’ve run out of things to say about tex. I just feel bad that he keeps getting fed off-speed pitches and keeps flailing at it…
Yankees having a hard time beating AL East teams lately. Not a good start to the series when your ace fails again.
that’s a huge exaggeration. He’s had problems setting himself to throw, & he sometimes charges the ball too hard from short. Gotten better in both areas.
Run it Out
What can I tell ya? I’ve got better sources.
Teixeira is 5 for his last 36, with 1 xbh.
ARod can’t get here quickly enough.
Tex is really sad at this point. All they throw him is off speed pitches and he strikes out on all of them. Or he swings at outside pitches off the plate and tries to get under them and can’t. But he plays gold glove defense so the media and fans give him a break of course. If he was Arod they would be killing him. He has to admit there is a problem and work with Long.
lgy. you used to be one of the smart baseball guys here. what happened to you dude
Who cares what he wants. He had nothing tonight and it’s Girardi’s job to protect him. I believe he and Verlander have thrown the most pitches in baseball this year and his arm will be toast by October.

Well, they obviously didn’t think he was at risk & he probably growled that he wanted to finish it. They gave him an extra day’s rest, so it’s not like they’re not protecting him.
Remember when Cash called Tex the future “Anchor” of our lineup when he signed?
that’s a huge exaggeration. He’s had problems setting himself to throw, & he sometimes charges the ball too hard from short. Gotten better in both areas

OMG I didn’t see that CC gave up 5 HR.. Damn that is amazingly bad. 16-7 now. Era climbing. Was 2.56 before the Sox game.
Teixeira gets fed off speed pitches because he will flail at them. It won’t matter if Alex is in the line up or not, when you can’t hit any off speed pitches, that is what they are going to throw you. He has to adjust, and he doesn’t.
Suck night for Yanks, but another strong outing for Betances.
Maybe Seattle can do us a favor.

Love to meet you in Tampa next spring and we’ll compare.
Miserable game
Mell, he’s not going to be the everyday 3B here. I think we can endure the odd start once Alex gets back.
Have a good one, all.
That was just an ugly loss.. CC and Mo are concerns at this point and we’re all idiots not to at least see this. Without CC, the Yanks are done. 5 solo HR’s are just inexcusable.
Its not a huge exaggeration. His defense has never been well regarded by scouts. I think that is primarily one of the reasons he has been taught multiple positions. He doesn’t excel at one particular spot on the diamond. I like Nunez and hope the Yankees keep him around. He can be a very useful player off the bench and perhaps even a regular player one day. But his defense is, probably, going to be passable at best.
1st game loss syndrome -out of the way

====================
you mean that hasn’t started yet?
Granderson has to bat 3rd infront of Arod, they have to put their 2 best hitters back to back infront of Cano. Tex has been such garbage this year and definitely shouldn’t be batting 3rd. A lineup of Grandy/Arod/Cano would be ideal. I am so tired of Tex struggling for weeks at a time.
Sadly for CC, these last two games pretty much took him out of Cy Young consideration. He likely had no real shot anyway but now he definitely doesn’t. Oh well, back at ‘em tomorrow. Hopefully Phil pitches a gem.

Betances had a great outing sounds like and Montero shook off the boredom long enough to hit another dinger……Also some guy down in A ball had a good night….Alex something…..they say he’s got some tools.
The Yankees catcher play has been blown out of proportion…..they don’t need Montero because they really haven’t been THAT bad.

Hi Blake – how amazing is Alex? I miss him – really psyched for him to return
Cashman’d, lol – he’s now become a verb.
he’s pretty awesome Betsy and I can’t wait til they get him back either….hopefully the knee will be better now and he can drive the ball. He was so good in ST and to start the season…..if he could hit another hot spell like that again at the right time we’ve seen what he can do…..he can carry a team to a title when he’s hot
Blake, he was awesome to start the season – geez, that was a long time ago. When he’s healthy, he’s such a stud, but it’s getting harder to keep him healthy.
It’s really hard, if not impossible, for one player to carry a baseball team, but Alex did it in 2009 and even before hand – guy is a monster
Did Carlos Zambrano retire?
An “Ace” pitcher does not go out in back-to-back August starts and lay two eggs. I think Sabathia has been sitting too close to Tin Man Burnett. Horrible!!!
Why does Alex always need to carry the team? The man is 36 yrs old.
How about the players in their prime like Cano or Tex carry us? Will Tex even hit .250 this year?
