Posada speaks

Posted by: Brian Heyman - Posted in Misc on Aug 13, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Jorge Posada just met with us. He’s been buried since getting benched last Sunday in Boston. But he has resurfaced today. Joe Girardi has him as the DH.

“I’m looking forward to being in the lineup again,” Posada said. “I want to do everything I can to try to stay in the lineup.”

Asked if it has been hard to stay sharp while not playing for the last five games, Posada said, “We’ll find out today.”

Asked about Girardi, Posada said. “Me and Joe are fine. We talk. That’s between me and Joe.”

Too bad about Gary Sanchez and Ravael Santana – hurry back quickly next year guys!!

  2. Ghostwriter August 13th, 2011 at 3:33 pm

That was nicely handled by Posada. It seems to me that he learned a lot from that nasty incident earlier this year. Good for him! I always liked him, but he has demonstrated a nasty tendency to be petulant on occasion, when things aren’t going his way. The old Jorge wouldn’t have handled this situation as graciously as Jorge has handled the last week.

OK, just looked at Sally League transactions and Gary Sanchez, Eduardo Sosa and Jose Ramirez were placed on the DL yesterday.

  5. GreenBeret7 August 13th, 2011 at 3:37 pm

    Tom,

those officers got all of the breaks. They screw up and we took the blame.

I kid of course, because 90% of them were outstanding….as long as they left their West Point Training Guides back in the States. I really did end up learning to love jumping. That’s probably the part I miss the most….along with C-Rations. Never fond of the MREs

  6. Stoneburner August 13th, 2011 at 3:40 pm

Gary Sanchez with broken middle finger – and Santana w/ a possible bad ankle injury (hopefully not David Adams bad)

  7. kd August 13th, 2011 at 3:43 pm

thanks for the reply gb. that’s really good news for sanchez, the lack of pull happy hitting.

why were they all put on the dl? extra rest before winter ball?

jose ramirez is an interesting prospect, the yankees said they liked him more than the guy they gave up for javier vasquez. hopefully he gets healthy and pitches well in aa

  8. GreenBeret7 August 13th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I’d like to see Sanchez play some winter ball in the Dominican under Tony Pena this year to help him clean up the passed ball issues.

    ———————————————-

It was nicely handled by Jorge but he owed Joe at least one public olive branch after Joe bent over backwards last time smoothing things over.

IMO that was one of Girardi’s best days as manager as I’m sure Jorgecripped him s new one and Joe gave the press nada.

  13. GreenBeret7 August 13th, 2011 at 3:47 pm

KD, I haven’t listened to the Charleston games over the last 3-4 days and didn’t know about the DL players. Stoneburner had that info. Not sure about Sosa. Ramirez was moved alittle too fast, I thought and struggled in Tampa. He’s still really young.

  14. tomingeorgia August 13th, 2011 at 3:52 pm

WCYF, that would be like putting you in charge of the economy. Wait a sec, your buddy is already taking care of that.

    ==============================

Not sure Joe’s decision to remove Posada from the primary DH role ahead of a natioanally televised game against Boston wasn’t a bit of a purpose pitch, but he did handle that episode earlier in the year quite well.

That was a weird afternoon/evening, between Cashman giving the impromtu (and unnecessary) presser and Mrs. Posada making her husband’s case on Twitter. Bad day for Cash and the Posadas, IMO. Good day for Girardi though.

  16. tomingeorgia August 13th, 2011 at 3:53 pm

    Let’s go Yankees!

  17. Crawdaddy August 13th, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Actually, it was a good day for Cashman too.

  18. Mell August 13th, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Actually, it was a good day or Cashman too.

    =====================

He was being an absolute dick, but I can understand the point of view of those who think it was a good thing.

  19. Niblick August 13th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Binder Joe has done everything in his power this year to humiliate Jorge short of stealing his uniform. First he unilaterally takes away the catching job, then he platoons him with Andruw, them he pulls the crap he did two different Sundays at Fenway. Binder Joe has never gotten over the fact that Jorge took away his job, and he’s finally getting his petty little revenge on him. Congratulations Binder Joe. You were never one quarter of the player that Jorge was. And you stink as a manager.

    ————————-

Im not sure. It’s got to be so hard for these reams with the schedule/travel I’m not sure they even know what city they’re in never mind what channel is doing the broadcast.

I wouldn’t bet that that was some sort of “purpose
pitch” on Joes part. If he’s nothing at all he is
    respectful of his players.

  21. yankeefeminista August 13th, 2011 at 4:04 pm

    Hip Hip!

  22. waka flocka August 13th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

You’re totally right Niblick. Its not like Posada was handed the DH role this year in order to keep him in the lineup. Its not like Posada was contributing literally NOTHING at the plate when he was supposed to hit 9th (not even removed from the lineup). Its not like Binder Joe played Posada at DH despite Posada having less than ten hits all year off lefties. Its all a big conspiracy to get back at Jorge! Poor him!

  23. Mell August 13th, 2011 at 4:05 pm

First he unilaterally takes away the catching job

    ===============================

Unilaterally? Incorrectly implies that this was solely Girardi’s decision.

Further, as he started only 194 games at catcher in the 3 seasons preceding this one (roughly 65 games per season) was it really his job anymore in the first place?

  24. BJK August 13th, 2011 at 4:07 pm

    ——————————————————————————————————————-

Not that I want to defend Girardi, but you almost make it sound like Posada didn’t put himself in this position by hitting .230 with 3 homers since April and none since June.

  25. Mell August 13th, 2011 at 4:08 pm

    Jeers:

You could be right. Pure speculation on my part.

  26. Niblick August 13th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

Not saying that Jorge has hit well this year. He just hasn’t been treated respectfully by Binder Joe, starting with taking away the catcher’s job completely. Compare that with the lavish public praise Binder Joe gives AJ or the myriad of other players who have stunk from time to time (or continually) this year.

  27. Bronx Jeers August 13th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

    Niblick,

It was Cash that ended his catching days and there were many saying it was a health issue regarding concussions.

And its not like Jorge has been knocking the cover off the ball this season. There have been better options. If Alex was here this might be Chavez’s day at DH.

  28. Bronx Jeers August 13th, 2011 at 4:16 pm

You could be right. Pure speculation on my part.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
