Garcia starting in AAA on Monday

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Aug 19, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Freddy Garcia will make a rehab start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday. That lines him up to start one of those doubleheader games next Saturday in Baltimore.

Garcia threw a full bullpen today — with splitters — and said everything felt fine. He’s clearly not thrilled about being on the DL, but it probably made the most sense for the Yankees.

Boy, that finger sure healed up quickly.

  2. mick August 19th, 2011 at 5:33 pm

    was that the middle finger?

  3. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:33 pm

    There’s your answer Mick.

It’s pretty amazing how even the most minor things can land a player on the DL these days. A cut finger no less that is probably healed. Understanding of course that the Yankees are playing roster roulette right now.
    *****************************************************
My softball team put me in the DL recently.
I fell getting out of the batter’s box, broke my fall with my two hands, and somehow injured my wrist. Some kind of strain.
    There you go.

  5. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Garcia pitches the DB header game.

  6. Warning Track Power August 19th, 2011 at 5:34 pm

    Freddy-
I’m glad you’re upset. That proves you still have a passion for the game.
Despite that, going on the DL so you can get in a rehab start is best for the team.

  7. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 5:35 pm

I can certainly understand you being busy, Vineyard. I was pretty busy when I was driving through Napa, Rutherford, and St. Helena the other day.

But anyway, since you read my original message and now you know the whole thing about Irreverent Discourse erasing the link to his so-called blog isn’t possible, will you cease that whole line of attack?

  8. mick August 19th, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Nick Kissinger, it has a ring to it…

  9. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Nothin’ wrong with giving Bartolo and Freddy some extra rest.

  10. ac1 August 19th, 2011 at 5:39 pm

They really need to stop f’ing around about the rotation. Just decide which 5 will be starters and deal with the 6th one. They have had no idea when they will pitch, and i think with CC in particular, that accounts for some of the issues he has had recently. Putting Garcia on the DL was a move they only made to prolong deciding which of Colon/AJ/Hughes/Nova will be sent to the pen or AAA.

My guess would be that since they will not send AJ to the pen, and Colon appears to be starting to tire, he will be the one spending September in the bullpen. Doesn’t mean he cannot come back and start in October though as a pitcher who has rested his arm a bit.

Well see, but it appears there was no real reason to DL Garcia.

I hope that didn’t effect your wrist at the bar afterwards in flipping the dice cup. LOL !

  12. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:42 pm

The 6 Man rotation, or whatever you want to call it, will come to a screeching halt after the Baltimore doubleheader IMO.

  13. tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Please end the ad hominem stuff.

  14. MG August 19th, 2011 at 5:42 pm

this Garcia move makes no sense to me, it’s just another way to walk around Burnett’s ineffectiveness and potentially backfires on the Yankees if they want to resign Garcia next season.

They still have to make a decision about the rotation after the doubleheader, that doesn’t change, so unless they are irritated at Garcia for getting cut somehow (maybe he was hanging out with Kramer and ‘Little Jerry’ at an Underground fighting ring and got cut there) and are punishing him this is getting curiouser and curiouser…

  15. GreenBeret7 August 19th, 2011 at 5:43 pm

If the guy has a cut and it affects his best pitch, why not give him 2 weeks to let it heal instead of risking a chance of it splitting open or raising a hotspot and turning it into a blister? Nobody know what if anything happened. nobody owes anybody on here an explaination about roster moves or injuries.

  16. mick August 19th, 2011 at 5:44 pm

looks like colon and freddy for the twin bill
colon can miss a start so cc can go on 4 days rest a few times thru now.
    back to some normalcy

  17. 4 train August 19th, 2011 at 5:47 pm

this jerkface character knows more about baseball and the catcher position than both former catchers giradi and scoscia. both are manager of the year winners. dude get a clue

  18. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Vineyard Yankee? It almost seems like you’re dodging my question. But if we could clear this up right now it could help do this blog a lot of good and lower the rancor.

So again, now that you’re aware that the thing you were accusing Irrevent Discourse of can’t be done, will you cease that line of attack and just let it go?

  19. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:48 pm

I’m glad the Yankees did not rush this decision.

The answer will be here soon enough.

And some of our guys needed the rest anyway.

  20. blake August 19th, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Really seems like the Yanks are putting this rotation decision off as long as possible…..which I guess is ok…..as long as its for the right reasons.

  21. West Coast Yankee Fan August 19th, 2011 at 5:50 pm

Nick. I checked ID’s blog and don’t see any post on lowering the rancor.

  22. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 5:51 pm

    Blake-

I believe it is. Not an easy one. Lot’s of unknowns. The more data the better.

  23. Jerkface August 19th, 2011 at 5:51 pm

Yea 4 train, most starting catchers should be hitting .176 .225 .254 .479 and with below average PB and CS% numbers. But of course he just really handles that LAA pitching staff so well its worth the -100 runs offensively.

  24. MG August 19th, 2011 at 5:51 pm

MTU, there is no rest from this point forward since Garcia is pitching Monday at SWB.

It isn’t the end of the world since, at the end of the day, whoever is pitching best will start in the post season, all this posturing just makes it seem like they are looking for an excuse to keep Burnett in the rotation against all common sense.

  25. Jacob Ruppert August 19th, 2011 at 5:52 pm

Is Hughes a certainty as of now ?

Is Bartolo’s arm gonna hold up ?

Will Nova continue to shine ?

    Questions.

The whole AJ thing is really a pain in the rear.

Rotations, like lineups, should ideally be based on performance.

    Here we have “complications”. Agreed.

Let’s see what they actually decide.

  46. Vineyard Yankee August 19th, 2011 at 6:03 pm

    tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 6:01 pm

That’s right, and I didn’t bring it up.

  47. MG August 19th, 2011 at 6:04 pm

MTU, if it’s my decision (it’s not, of course) then Hughes and Nova have to stay in the rotation, it’s the only way they will continue to get better.

I can deal with the choice of pulling any of the other 3 although Garcia is pitching better than the other two right now.

Colon hasn’t thrown the ball particularly well recently, it’s possible they could shut him down for a couple of weeks to see if he can regain his dominance at the end of the season and into the playoffs but the one guy who isn’t going to get better is Burnett, he’s going to be mediocre to bad the rest of the way, unfortunately unless he magically finds a way to hit the glove consistently after pitching the other way for his whole career.

  48. blake August 19th, 2011 at 6:04 pm

  52. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 6:06 pm

That’s pretty disappointing, Vineyard, but thanks for not dodging the question, finally. Maybe you do think you know what you saw, but it seems much more likely that you got him mixed up with someone else — Yankees ‘N’ More, for example — since commenters here cannot go back and change links they previously posted.

If you think Chad went back and edited someone’s posts, you should ask him, since you surely don’t want to be guilty of making a false accusation.

“People here don’t want to read the continual questions about the same thing over and over ad nauseam.”

Agreed. So, since we probably aren’t going to settle what you saw or what you think you saw but you recognize that people don’t want all the ad nauseum stuff, will you pledge to cease referring to Irreverent Disocurse as ‘manni’ and not mention the whole blog issue anymore?

And while you’re at it, there’s no good reason for ad nausem references to Betsy either, is there? As busy mature adult (and a parent too, right?) who runs a business, you don’t need to go after someone like that and make this blog unpleasent for her, do you? Maybe if you pledged to stop that behavior you could also influence your friend to do so as well.

    Thanks for the consideration.

exactly right, blake, the combination of reduced velocity and poor location just makes him less than ordinary and unlikely to get better.

    MG-

In an ideal world you might be right about Burnett.

As it stands, I stick by what I said, I think it’s complicated by a number of factors.

I don’t like them but I think they are the reality.

Maybe there will be a surprise.

I agree that Nova and Hughes should be allowed to continue to develop as long as they pitch well.

I am hoping for a really big game from Hughes tonight.

    I hope we get it.

  55. blake August 19th, 2011 at 6:12 pm

    MTU,

Hughes might be the key to the Yankees season…..that’s why they have to keep letting him pitch. We don’t know what’s going to happen with Colon…..

  56. blake August 19th, 2011 at 6:13 pm

    MG

AJ is the exact sane pitcher he’s always been…..minus 2-3 mph on his fastball……and that’s a big deal for him..

  57. MG August 19th, 2011 at 6:13 pm

MTU, I just don’t like the way it’s being handled but hey, that’s baseball and life, right?

I’ll be really ticked, however, if Hughes or Nova get pulled from the rotation, none of the other guys are pitching at a consistent level (Garcia is pitching the best but there seem to be some matchup concerns with him in the playoffs that don’t mean that much to me) that justifies stopping their development for the rest of the season.

Again I find we are running in paralell with regard to Hughes.

I feel the same. He may be able to exchange places with Bartolo if everything goes well. He is the only one who can IMO.

The most optimistic perspective envisions him like 1st half last year only now.

I’m hoping for it just not counting on it. It’s either that or Bartolo will have to stay true to form till the end (risky).

So ID, a yankees fan who spends a lot of time on a 100% yankees blog, made a cubs/rays blog in April of this year, put the link in his name (which means every post after would have the link) then … quit the blog idea? And for some reason cared enough to have all of his posts deleted, despite the fact that he still has posts from April onward and all of the links in his name from april onward are to a Yankees charity event? And he asked Chad to waste his time deleting those links for some reason? The cubs/rays fan who summers on the yankee blog?

    Doesn’t add up.

He’s a competitior. I do worry about him wearing down towards the end.

Trader, other than the fact that Molina could hit, for the most part, his catching style was pretty similar to Barajas’. Zahn was pretty washed up with a concussion and shoulder injuries. I would have been happy with Barajas in NY. Not an automatic out, either.

  81. Jacob Ruppert August 19th, 2011 at 6:31 pm

It is fairly simple to delete the posts of one person given a specific date range. The link would only stay in IDs name until he deleted it from his profile or changed it to the Yankees charity. Plenty of people are fans of multiple teams. Making another fan blog of the Yankees would seem to be redundant, given the hundreds already on the internet. So ID chose to make a Cubs/Rays blog because given each team’s lack of success, there ought to be less fan blogs of those teams than the 27 time World Series Champions

  83. luis August 19th, 2011 at 6:34 pm

    Hi everyone,

If you asked me, i would have to agree that the key to this season is how Hughes turns his season around….. I’m worried that Colon’s arm wont be able to hold for the rest of the season and we are starting to see signs of that….In the case of Garcia i still think that he is not a good fit against the red sux, he has to be perfect in order to survive…..Nova i think is the other candidate to step it up, just hope that the past couple of starts are a blip on the radar and nothing more.

In any case, i think the development of the kids should be paramount for our future success, and i am willing to not win a WS this year in exchange for a decade of consistently strong perfomances and play off appearances.

How can anyone produce the link if Chad or Sam removed the link at the request of ID?

    ———————————————————

Validating your own hypothesis? Weirder by the minute, dude.

  85. tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 6:39 pm

Proving the negative is pretty hard.

  86. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 6:43 pm

“The link would only stay in IDs name until he deleted it from his profile or changed it to the Yankees charity.”

This is factually false. There is a link in my name. If I change it before I post again, this same link will still remain in previous posts.

  87. Pauldanand August 19th, 2011 at 6:45 pm

    Peyton Place

  88. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Peyton Place was on before I was born, but I’m guessing the writing was better and conflicts were more entertaining.

  89. tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 6:49 pm

    Nick,
And the sex was much better, at least in the book.

  90. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 6:50 pm

    Nick-

    Back to buisness.

If Phil pitches a shutout will you go for a double-double in his honor ?

I’ll chip in a hike and a photo tribute.

    ;)

  91. Jacob Ruppert August 19th, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Of course the link would stay in IDs name for his past posts. That is why Chad or Sam likely deleted the posts with the link in his name at the request of ID. I would ask Chad, but he has an important job to do, so I would not expect him to remember something of that nature, and it is impossible for us to attain an answer from Sam. Why can we not ask ID to clarify things?

  92. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 6:52 pm

There seems to be two different blogs going on at the same time and it’s not even game time yet!!! Very funny!!

  93. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 6:53 pm

    YT-

Which one are you on ?

    :)

  94. luis August 19th, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Jacob Ruppert August 19th, 2011 at 6:51 pm

I think he has responded many times about the issue….just let it go please

  95. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 6:55 pm

    Luis-

If I ever came to Venezuela would you hike with me to see Angel Falls ?

    :)

  96. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 6:55 pm

    MTU-

If Phil pitches a shutout for seven innings and the Yankees win, I’ll crown him our #2 Starter for the Day [ from the TV show Queen for a Day]- not going there!!

  97. Sock Puppet August 19th, 2011 at 6:56 pm

Where is Yankees N More ?

  98. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 6:57 pm

    MTU-

Since I responded to you I’m on the Yankees discussion now on tonight’s pitcher-Phil Hughes.

  99. tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 6:58 pm

    MTU,
Let’s hope Phil goes seven with 2 earned runs. Why make it easy for management?

  100. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 6:58 pm

    YT-

That’s all ? You won’t even go out and get a burger for him ?

When I’m willing to climb mountains for him.

    :(

  101. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 6:58 pm

ID has been perfectly clear: he doesn’t and hasn’t ever had a blog, he’s not Manni, he’s not a Cubs/Rays fan. He is far more likely to be correct about these things than you are with your outlandish scenarios.

MTU: a shutout would be great, but I’m willing to lower the bar tonight. I’ll enjoy a nice Double-Double in Phil’s honor if he just gets the win. If he pitches a shutout, I’ll…. do more.

  102. luis August 19th, 2011 at 6:59 pm

    MTU,

You are on!!!, maybe the auyantepuy as well, it’s about an 8hr hike but worth it, the only issue is the guides, they are all indians that bearly speak spanish, and never aske them how much longer because they will answer “longer”‘

  103. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 6:59 pm

    Tom-

    Absolutely. Hope he kicks butt.

    ;)

  104. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 7:00 pm

    I’ll mail one!

man, where is the sanity. many old lohuders hanging out at river ave now and that place was never as good as here. or what used to be here.

  106. luis August 19th, 2011 at 7:02 pm

    Tom, YT, MTU,

I’m going for the shutout, and i will treat my self to a nice day at the beach

  107. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 7:03 pm

    Nick-

You set the standard. That’s fine by me.

I’ll be gone all day tomorrow and if if Phil meets it I’ll dedicate that hike to him.

    Luis-

Seeing that would be a dream come true. The Orinoco has a primitive quality that I just love. I have hiked in the Amazon so maybe that’s next.

    :)

OK YT. Just wanted to be sure we were on the same blog page.

  108. Jacob Ruppert August 19th, 2011 at 7:03 pm

Please do not call my scenarios outlandish. I am trying to give the two disliked members of the blog a fair shake.

  109. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 7:06 pm

“I’ll be gone all day tomorrow and if if Phil meets it I’ll dedicate that hike to him.”

What the hell! You’re going on that hike either way!

No Phil win, no Double-Double for me. That would suck, I’m already thinking about that burger now…

  110. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

It’s the scenarios themselves that are outlandish; that has nothing to do with whether anyone else is liked or disliked.

  111. luis August 19th, 2011 at 7:08 pm

    MTU,

My wife is from Ciudad Bolivar which is right at the Orinoco river, it’s as pretty as you can imagine, ther is a boat race every year that goes from the start of the river( Apure river) all the way back to Ciudad Bolivar, is three days if i’m not mistaken, but worth it as well.

  112. mick August 19th, 2011 at 7:08 pm

    Nick,
what do you think of the Jayhawks
    and the Bodeans?

  113. tomingeorgia August 19th, 2011 at 7:08 pm

    4 train August 19th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
man, where is the sanity. many old lohuders hanging out at river ave now and that place was never as good as here. or what used to be here.

—I read that one too, and it’s much worse than here for substantive content, too much gratuitous profanity, and although Axisa is good, he’s not better than Chad.

  114. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 7:10 pm

I see where lefty Wandy Rodriguez was placed on waivers today. Will anyone dare claim him and risk the salary ramfications? Putting up similar stats as lefty Madison Bumgarner and is on the worst team in baseball.

  115. Yankee Trader August 19th, 2011 at 7:11 pm

    New post on A-Rod—>

  116. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 7:14 pm

    Nick-

You could always have a gelato in either case.

    ;)

    Luis-

I have seen many TV specials on that area but as here nothing like seeing it for real.

By the way, I like “long”, and I dig the idea that they are native guides.

I’d be all over that place if I lived there.

    Like a leaf-cutter on a plant.

    :)

  117. mick August 19th, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Nick taking charge and acting Mayoral. I like it.

  118. Nick in SF August 19th, 2011 at 7:16 pm

I don’t have gelato as any kind of tribute, just if I win some coin on the games.

mick: jayhawks? bodeans? isn’t that from a long time ago?

  119. mick August 19th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

just heard them today on the radio, sounded like the Byrds or Buffalo Springfield , though they were new groups.

  120. MTU August 19th, 2011 at 7:18 pm

    Luis-

    Point of information for you.

The last “wild” river to be explored in the US is right here in Utah.

It’s called the Escalante. First expedition into the Canyon there in 1955
by a Nat Geo team on horseback.

It is one of my favorite hikes. I will do it again later this Fall.

So you can see, I like adventure.

    ;)
