Alex returns
Looks like Aaron Laffey was optioned to open a roster spot. His name is not listed in the bullpen.
Derek Jeter DH
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF
Eduardo Nunez SS

Yankees win 10-4 today, BOOK IT, Dan-O !
I’d like to see Jeter at SS, Nunez in RF, and Montero at DH….now you’re talking!
Boy, I missed this guy. If his knee is healthy, he’s going to just go off offensively………..
WHAT? Why isn’t Gardner batting lead-off? Why isn’t Rodriguez DHing? Why is that loser Teixeira not batting 7th? Jeter should be hitting 9th. He’s washed up. Nova had better start showing something. Why isn’t Montero up and why isn’t he catching? No!! Wait!!! Make that Romine. Everyone knows that Montero is too tall to be a catcher and Gardner is too short to be an outfielder. He’ll get lost in that tall grass..
Girardi is so creative.
not really a fan of gardy batting 8th. Think he is best suited for the 9 hole with this lineup. But whatever.
I’m happy to have A-Rod back
Yay. Alex ia back
Sweet!… Welcome back Arod!
I’d swap Nunez and Gardner but thats just nitpicking a bit.
Welcome back, Alex!
“Nonsense. They didn’t want to hear Girardi lambaste AJ in the press. Every Yankee beat writer knows that Girardi would never do that no matter what happened. They wanted to know what happened. They wanted to know the truth.”
This is nonsense….
If indeed something happened, how do you expect him to tell what happened without coming across ripping AJ.
It is easy for the arm-chair pundits here advocate what Girardi should have done. He has the responsibility to keep the club house together and he does not have to tell everything that happens in the clubhouse.
“I think there’s a lot to this. I read last year that they had a tight relationship & Joe was like a father figure to AJ. I think there was a lot of emotion in Joe and his anger shown when asked the “is there a wedge between you & AJ” type questions. Aside from that he was calm & had more of a disappointment and even sadness to his answers.
Jack had every right to ask the mound question. Joe answered it. The problem I have is Jack ignored his answer and continued to ask questions that deviated from Joe’s answer. The question about if other pitchers had gotten angry at him (or however he phrased it) showed a total lack of regard for Joe’s answer & that really set him off as he refused to answer it. This is when Jack ceased to ask respectable questions and became a blood hound.
We’ll probably never know what exactly happened on the mound. But Joe’s, AJ’s & Martin’s account does jive with the tape. AJ didn’t say anything until Martin said something, prior to that he was walking off. Though I have no doubt AJ was angry (be it his performance and/or the call, being pulled).
But the issue is his performance. If he had been lights out & had a sucky game & this all happened, it would be no news. This is just a pile on due to AJ’s mediocracy & makes for great print atm.”

Good post, I agree. It’s what I was trying to say, But you did a much better job.
This says it all:

Later Laffey.
BBFan, yep……… Telling the truth would have meant trashing one of his players in the media. If the mediots can’t figure out that Joe clearly gave it good to AJ last night, that’s their problem.
Im tired of talking about AJ. Today is about getting Alex back and going for the series win. Go Alex….go Nova!

It happened on the mound in front of the world. And, I said “THEY” wanted to know what happened. Girardi could easily have said what he wanted to without going off on a respected reporter doing exactly what he was supposed to do.
Now the team is full again.
We did not make a major trade before July 31st.
But we got back an effective Hughes improving rotation.
Soriano seems to be doing fine after returning from DL, this improving bullpen.
Now Alex is back making offense even better.
I think we will go on a roll and lead Bosox by a couple of games by the time we meet them again.

Now if we can only stay healthy the rest of the year.
WYCF, i do not agree with your last statement, but will let it go, enough of AJ….
Let us concentrate on the positives, especially A-Rod return and how this team is going to jell and in the near future how it will distance from Sox on the way to winning the division.

WTBS gets the game today and if Boomer Wells is in the broadcast booth he won’t let yesterday’s happenings go unsaid.
Let’s hope he has more to say about the good pitching of Ivan Nova and a nice return for Alex.

One more thing just because I think what Klapisch said this morning is completely unfair to Joe. He trashed him for attacking Curry and basically coddling AJ………….Then he claims that he’s not as well loved in the clubhouse as Torre was and he’s not respected either, that the players have are annoyed with him for constantly propping up AJ. First off, the only players in the current clubhouse that undoubtedly loved Torre with no reservations are Mo, Derek and Jorge. Second of all, I think the players appreciate Girardi NOT trashing them to the media……..If Klapisch thinks Girardi didn’t lay into AJ last night in private, then I have a bridge to sell him
Yes sir.
YT, thanks, lol. I found it on another site so credit to them, but they do look like they were separated at birth, lol
“Noesi is still with us-Hooray!”
I think when Garica returns, either Noesi or Ayala will be sent to minors, most likely Noesi.
Then he will be back after September 1st.

Not too bad, AL. Thanks for asking. Got the windows and doors in and have half of the house paneled. Still need to replace the roof before I do the bathrooms and the flooring. The siding on the house will have to wait until spring when there’s money for it. Damned, this has been fun….like tooth a extraction.

Although it’s very difficult to find out who has options remaining, I beleve Ayala is out of options??
unless cc is moved around he could miss the boston series.
pirates just extended Tabata. great trade that was since Nady did nothing here, pure panic move trade that was.
Klapisch is a master of dramatization, though I do like reading his writings.
He also made a big deal about the rift when Posada was benched.
I believe more people in the clubhouse love Girardi than was the case with Torre.
Girardi treats everyone with respect.
Torre always had a divided clubhouse with his guys and others. See what he did with Alex throwing the laundry out to Verducci.
Klapisch, Feinsand etc., do not like Joe because Joe does not feed them with what they want.
Joe is alright as the Torre backers influence in the clubhouse is minimized day by day.
Big Al, I just don’t like it when I see what I consider to be unfair treatment of someone…..and in this case, I think the media always protects its own, so it’s hard to take them seriously. LOL Like Klapisch has ANY idea what the players really think of Girardi – because he’s like a father confessor to the players and they open up to him about their problems with the manager. No, what he did was extrapolate his OWN feelings about Girardi, who Klapisch clearly has no use for, and tried to pass those off as those of the Yankees. Very professional of the man………sure, players LOVE it when their managers kill them in the media. Wouldn’t you love it if your boss talked to the local paper about what an immature jerk you are?
the way i see it with cc going next tues or wed. and with 5 gams in balt after that where he will go sun or mon (pray for rain?) then he will bost. tu-th.

The good thing is you don’t get the harsh winters by you, so going through the winter with a roof that needs replacing will most likely be OK. Don’t forget that Damaso Marte was part of that deal. Although Marte has spent considerable time on the DL since coming here, he was dynamite against lefthand hitters in the ALCS and World Series in 2009. I think he struck out Raul Ibanez and the big Phillie first baseman (Howard) every time he faced them in the Series.
Thanks Mick and Vineyard…………the look is good for Beaker, not so good for AJ.
AJ is a good guy and a good teammate, but he’s not that good a pitcher anymore and he’s immature emotionally. As long as he’s on this team, maybe his buddy CC needs to talk to him and get him to see the light. My guess is that AJ is beyond frustrated at his own performance and his inability to fix it and he lashed out at Joe because of it.

Is AJ just a poor student who cannot learn?
Ayala has no options, but, Noesi has a few. Ayala would never get through waivers. Noesi could go down or they could try to squeeze Laffey through waivers. It would be tough to release a relief pitcher with a 1.32 ERA. Last night was his worst outing of the year. The three inherited runners that scored. Until the, he was 16 IR and 4 scored.
Later folks – Have a great day.
Can we option AJ?
The Torre versus Girardi clubhouse argument is not even viable with today’s club. Come next year, only Jeter and Mo will remain from Torre’s heyday and Girardi appears to have a good relationship with both of them, particularly Mo.
One way to get CC to Boston would be to start Noesi in the 1st game, then send him down for Freddy in game 2.
7 man staff….for a day.
If Noesi is sent down next weekend, I doubt he even leaves the Yankee clubhouse since he’ll be returning that following Thursday.

If he breaks out and becomes a superstar, that will be a great deal for the Pirates. But otherwise, what has he done to deserve that type of commitment at this point?

There is a possibility that the Yankees could send Eduardo Nunez down for a few days. Chavez could be a backup 3B and Cervelli could be the emergency 2B if the Yankees decide they need a pitcher more than a utility infielder. The Yankees would be allowed to recall Nunez on short notice if any of the infielders get hurt.

I’m hoping to start and finish the roof in late October. I have a couple of plywood panels to replace and put down a couple of squares of shingles, then the asphalt edging and felt paper. After that, it’s about a day of installing the fibreglass panels and the capping and it’s done. minimal clean-up and it’ll last until I’m gone.
Yeah, I don’t understand Klap’s article as Girardi thinks the world of his former teammates Jeter and Mo. His comments about either player is always very supportive.

Ayala might not have had much time to warm up.
Nunez is gong nowhere. He’s insurance for Jeter and Cano. Noesi will continue to be the long man in the pen and after the next long relief sent, he’ll go down for 10 days and be back.
Klapisch is just ticked off that he snapped at his friend Curry, so he wrote some kind of fiction piece for the Bergen Record………what a true professional.
The players don’t have to love their manager… just respect him.
coincidence that Phil is slotted in the #2 spot?

Get ‘em a puppy that will grow with them. The twins still sleep with “Killer”, They sleep and he collapses.
game 3 at boston….AJ?….hmmmm….let me think about that one
“Noesi will continue to be the long man in the pen and after the next long relief sent, he’ll go down for 10 days and be back.”
Actually, it will be more like five days as will be sent down on Saturday due to the doubleheader with Garcia starting one of those game and be back on Thursday when the rosters expand so I doubt he even leaves the Yankees to go to SWB especially if he pitches just prior to being sent down.
The reason why the Curry angle got so much play is because he works for YES and they are supposed to have a good working relationship with one another. YES covers for Girardi plenty of times during controversial times. It’s not a good optic when he snaps at his team’s own reporter. Especially that snarky, sarcastic response about how they got into a fist-fight.
I doubt there would be this much angst if he lashed out at Wally Matthews or Sherman (which he has done in the past, BTW).
Something similar happened with Kim back in 08. I remember her telling Mike that he appologized to her after snapping at her after
freddy could go game 3 in boston

As a long time member of the fourth estate let me assure you what Girardi did to Curry was NOTHING. I’ve gotten worse tongue lashings from a nun.
He was a little snippy — bfd — I’m sure Curry wasn’t taken aback by it and he probably wasn’t surprised. Someone had to ask about AJ. It was THE story of the game.
GB 7 — The media is by definition recalcitrant. They (we) are supposed to question authority and ask questions that people in charge would prefer not be asked.
Curry and YES knows exactly what Girardi was doing last night. There won’t be any leftover bad feelings as Girardi was doing a little misdirection.
Curry took the hit for the team.
He knew beforehand Joe’s tirade was coming.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they rehearsed it.
Jerz – Not to mention, Joe had no reason to be THAT angry if the events occurred the way that he said they did.
AJ told Martin that the Mauer pitch was BS! Girardi went to the clubhouse to review the pitch, not talk to AJ!
Sure…
Anyway, the real issue here is AJ is one of the 5 worst pitchers in the AL and significantly worse than the 2 guys he is ‘competing’ with. Do the right thing and take him out of the rotation, and all this is irrelevant.
This Burnett thing is above Girardi anyway. This is Cashman’s baby. He is the one who will decide Burnett’s fate, not Girardi.
So what Girardi says publicly has little bearing on how he feels about Burnett or what will happen to Burnett in the future. He is just trying to quiet things down. But it’s not his decision what happens to Burnett. It is up to Cashman to swallow his pride and make the right decision.
Curry, unlike some of his cohorts, is a professional and I have no doubts that he’s completely fine with Joe. He, unlike his cohorts, knows that Joe never kills his players in public and he can read between the lines – AJ didn’t get away with anything last night.
What happens to Burnett is an organizational decision with recommendations from Cashman and Girardi then with direction given by ownership.
So, Laffey has options and is sent out to Scranton. Noesi stays for the time being.
Curry goes back to the Billy Martin and George days. He’s a battle hardened veteran baseball writer.
What happens to Burnett is an organizational decision with recommendations from Cashman and Girardi then with direction given by ownership.
——————-
that’s a lot of misdirection…
Noesi gets sent down for Freddy game 2.
Had that been Billy Martin last night, Curry would have known better than to ask it.

==========================
Yeah, the Twins saw to that.
Curry played the fall guy.
Too bad Kim wasn’t there.
“that’s a lot of misdirection…”
Or lack thereof, if owneship tells him he stays on the roster and refuses to swallow his contract next year. The year after might be more of a chance?
Had that been Billy Martin last night,
=========================
Billy would have been fired by now…
“Too bad Kim wasn’t there.”
I get a feeling that Girardi would’ve been a little nicer in his approach with her because I have a hard time seeing Girardi blowing up in a public setting with a woman.
Had that been Billy Martin last night, Curry would have known better than to ask it.
=======================
Nah, I’d bet he’d ask Martin. If for no other reason, he’d do it for the response, which would undoubtedly be colorful. Press loves that sh*t.
Jim Leyland reacts the same way to those kinds of questions quite often and nobody says a word. Imagine what Guillen’s crap is doing to that White Sox clubhouse. The only players that like him are the regulars….maybe.
“Had that been Billy Martin last night, Curry would have known better than to ask it.”
Actually it would have been more appropiate because there really would have been a fistfight.

jpb, I don’t know, I think even five days to go with no backup middle infielder is a lot. The only backup at 2b would be Cervelli and the only backup at ss would be A-Rod with Chavez at 3b. Not with things this close in the division.
I think Noesi is the obvious one because he has options left.

Yeah…that’s your job…with Torre still in it.
“Yeah…about as classy as you are, Feinsand.”
Feinsand has taken a step back since going to the News from MLB.com
The blow up on the mound is actually working out well for the Yankees. Not many people are talking about how Burnett has been worse this year than last year through 26 starts.
The only thing that kept Billy from getting beaten to a pulp in the clubhouse were the coaches. I think back to the time he pulled Reggie Jackson at Fenway. Billy got in Jackson’s face, and if had actually touched Jackson, Jackson would have laid him out flat. The only thing preventing it was Ellie Howard and Yogi getting in the way, and pulling Billy back to safety.
In truth, I don’t like Jeter batting in the top of the order at all, he is not what he once was and never will be again! He was once a very good SS, mainly from a hitting stand point…not so much anymore!
Starting pitchers; CC, Nova, Phil, Colon, and Garcia, AJ to be placed on the DL…I wish!
GreenBeret7–I take it, your fight with the big “C” went well? You sound much better and funnier then the last time I posted over here, which is very good news. Not many from those days, left around any more! Keep the faith big guy!—Old R.
“Girardi couldn’t hold Joe Torre’s jockstrap.”
Why on earth would he want to?
To; Joe from Long Island August 21st, 2011 at 1:20 pm
Maybe you should have been there or seen the tapes, Jackson was backing off from Billy. Billy is a fighter from way back…Jackson, not so much.
You should have seen Billy go after a player named Ted Kluszewski (about 6’3″ and 235#), there weren’t many that would tangle with Billy, he was…some would say, a dirty fighter—I say; a win is a win in a fight and much better then the alternative!
