A-Rod scratched with a jammed thumb

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Aug 23, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Alex Rodriguez felt soreness in the thumb in his non-throwing hand after batting practice and has been taken out of the lineup. He injured it on Sunday backhanding a ball hit by Minnesota’s Joe Mauer.

He’ll be looked at by Dr. Chris Ahmad shortly. He hopes it’s a one-day injury.

Eric Chavez will replace him at third base.

colon’s next start would be sun or mon v balt.
not a good time to skip him when they need , at least, 6 starters

Joe Girardi confirmed that the Yankees plan to have Freddy Garcia start the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader in Baltimore.
    =================================
The 2nd game…interesting….could be a surprise starter game 1 (Noesi?) so that CC can be skipped on Mon for Boston on Tues.

    bummer

Prior shut down yet again. The dude is flat out cursed.

It’s a damn shame his body just doesn’t want to cooperate.

Setting up CC to face Boston is a good thing. He needs to get a dang GOOD GAME under his belt against those iceholes before the playoff, just in case we need to knock them out on the way to our WS Championship, right ?

  5. Crawdaddy August 23rd, 2011 at 6:19 pm

Yeah, it’s time for Prior to retire as his body can’t take it.

  6. Giuseppe Franco August 23rd, 2011 at 6:22 pm

Not sure Girardi is going to want Noesi starting any games because he’s probably only good for 60 pitches – maybe 4 innings. 5 innings would be pushing it.

Depending on the score, they might need two long men just to finish one game.

I don’t think it really matters one way or another. It’s not like Sabathia hasn’t beaten them before.

Secondly, both teams have to get to the ALCS before we worry about the what ifs.

Detroit and Texas aren’t going to roll over for anyone.

I say Noesi bc he will get sent down for Freddy for game 2.
Actually it should be Nova on 5 days rest. Sunday would be Colon. Monday could be Hughes on reg rest so CC could go tues in boston.

Saturday is a mystery day. Who’s left?

  9. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 6:32 pm

That scenario sets up AJ for boston, ng.
I like the original one best with Noesi.
    I don’t think it’s a coincidence Girardi named Freddy for Game 2.

That’s a shame about Prior – his body just can’t handle the rigors of pitching. All those what if’s he must have – he was going to be a perennial Cy Young candidate and look how it ended up. I feel for him.

    Noesi, Ayala, Wade…
Unless he’s on a suicide mission and wants to throw AJ to the wolves in Beantown.

I assume that if Garcia will start game 2 on Saturday then Ivan Nova will start game 1. That means they don’t have to make a roster move until game 2. I still think that Nunez will be sent down from Saturday until Thursday (Sept 1st) so that the Yankees can have a full allotment of pitchers through that period. Look for Nunez to start game 1 on Saturday so that someone (Jeter, Chavez, ARod or Cano) will be frsh to play the second game

Sad news on Prior – such promise and he’s a guy that is easy to pull for. He made a lot for a guy that never had his big free agent payday, but he could have been a legend.

sad news also on A-Rod – hopefully he misses one game, his knee continues to improve and he comes back even stronger…

  14. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 6:42 pm

If Nova starts game 1 then CC will have to be used Monday and not in Boston.

  15. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 6:44 pm

Using Noesi in game 1 before they send him down for Garcia in game 2 is the right move.

  16. Giuseppe Franco August 23rd, 2011 at 6:44 pm

Ayala and Wade aren’t long men.

2 IP max for either and they’d both likely be unavailable for a day or two after that.

What happens if Colon or Burnett doesn’t give them length and they need Noesi for that?

Take it one game at a time. Girardi is going to manage his team to win the next 4 games before he decides what to do about Sat.

  17. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Noesi can go 4-5 innings, Ayala 2.
AJ goes Friday and Noesi will prolly go down for Freddy til 9/1.
After that the pen will grow.

  18. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 6:52 pm

    There could be rainouts.
