    Dear East Coast Wimps – Here’s a map of quakes in Calif and along the Nevada border today…a slow day…..672 earthquakes. http://www.data.scec.org/recenteqs.html

    If the Rockies claiming Wandy Rodriquez holds true, it proves once again that Cashman did the right thing by not biting on Ubaldo Jimenez.
    Why would the Rockies pay what they’ll need to pay Wandy for the duration of his contract if Jimenez has such a team friendly contract ? Must be health issues. Cleveland gave away some top talent to get Jimenez and he hasn’t exactly shown any Cy Young material since he arrived.

    She plans on continuing coaching. She is in early stages and is on meds now as well as using mental conditioning exercises. She will be monitored closely but the Vols are supporting her continuing.

    Probably the same way Texas responded to a snow storm this past winter. Badly

  19. pkyankfan69 August 23rd, 2011 at 4:02 pm

    Imagine how good this lineup will be next year if Montero really mashes the ball.

    Jeter – SS
    Grandy – CF
    Tex – 1B
    Arod – 3B
    Cano – 2B
    Montero – DH
    Swish – RF
    Martin – C
    Gardner – LF

    Montero will catch 1-2 days per week.
    When Montero catches Arod goes to DH and Nunez plays 3B.
    If Montero is the real deal which he certainly seems to be, this lineup is scary next year.
    Too bad they didn’t give Montero a chance when Arod when down this year.

    —————————————————-

    or that the Rockies needed to re-tool their farm system and Ubaldo was one of the easiest ways to do that. as Olney pointed out on Twitter, the Rockies are going to have a hard time convincing any major FA pitcher to sign with them. claiming Wandy makes perfect sense. now its just a matter of how bad Houston wants to be rid of his contract.

  30. GreenBeret7 August 23rd, 2011 at 4:09 pm

    Yeah, it would make so much sense for cities like Dallas, La, SF to spend tens of millions of dollars in ice/snow removal equipment that might get used every 10-20 years.

  38. Joe from Long Island August 23rd, 2011 at 4:14 pm

    waka – I don’t know, there. You don’t give up a supposedly stud pitcher for unproven youngsters, unless there’s a real good reason. Restocking your rotation with a mediocrity like Wandy Rodriguez on a bad contract? To me, that speaks of desperation for starting pitching.

    Concerns over what was going on with Colo./Jimenez was why I was willing to deal Nova, but not the haul that ODowd wanted – in the event that Jimenez was a bust, Nova could be replaced by Noesi, with Warren and Bs in the pipeline, and it wouldn’t be devastate the rotation.

    If they get at least 3 of the games in, they’ll probably just scrap the other 2 games unless they are needed at the end of the season.

    They do have mutual off-days on Sept 8th and 15th though. But one of them is before a WC trip and the other is on a road off-day between Seattle and Toronto. I guess they could squeeze one game in there.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The only available days off in September are the Thursdays of the 8th, 15th, and 22nd and Monday the 19th and the 26th. The 8th is out because the team travels to L.A. The 15th is out because the team is traveling from Seattle to Toronto.
    SP will be the downfall of this team when they face good hitting teams in the playoffs…
    ———
    Just like it’s been their downfall in the regular season, right?
    Video of Yankee fundraiser on the Channel 4 news last night showed Kevin Long checking A-Rod’s hand in the background and my wife said something is wrong with A-Rod’s hand.
  111. Betsy August 23rd, 2011 at 5:52 pm
    Garcia starting on Saturday – and Joe hinted that Colon may be skipped in his next start. I guess that’s fine, but I get the impression that they just don’t want to make a decision about Hughes/AJ and that the start by start audition continues
    colon’s next start would be sun or mon v balt.
    not a good time to skip him when they need , at least, 6 starters
  114. mick August 23rd, 2011 at 5:56 pm
    Joe Girardi confirmed that the Yankees plan to have Freddy Garcia start the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader in Baltimore.
    =================================
    The 2nd game…interesting….could be a surprise starter game 1 (Noesi?) so that CC can be skipped on Mon for Boston on Tues.
