Yankees planning to “fight” decision to play Sept. 8

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Aug 26, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Both manager Joe Girardi and player rep Curtis Granderson said the Yankees will try to “fight” the decision to play a game on their last remaining full off day. Granderson said the Yankees never agreed to the decision, and they’re hoping to figure out an alternative. Also according to Granderson, the Orioles preference is to play the September 8 game at 7:05 p.m., forcing the Yankees to play a night game immediately before a West Coast trip.

Screw the Orioles. I would rather forfeit a game than let them play a game on THEIR terms and allow them to make $$$ off the Yankees by getting a game in. Let them lose a gate………….

  2. Betsy August 26th, 2011 at 10:54 pm

A night game before a West Coast trip? Right

  3. Chase August 26th, 2011 at 10:55 pm

    Agreed, Betsy.

    F the O’s.

  4. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 26th, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Does everyone remember how this happened in Baltimore once before? We got jobbed two games because of some decision to let the Yankees play in a monsoon and the game had to be called, I believe Moose was on the mound. And then when the game was picked up it forced Andy to have to pitch on extra rest and the results were disastrous.

    Something like that.

  5. Captain Clutch August 26th, 2011 at 10:57 pm

The Yanks better fight it. The O’s should be emabarrassed with the way that they treated this situation. They don’t care because their team is a joke anyway but it makes their organization look even more clueless and pathetic.

  6. MG August 26th, 2011 at 10:58 pm

the O’s used to be a quality organization, these moves smack of both a lack of professionalism and a desire to stick it whenever possible to the Yankees.

this is the first time I’ve ever accused another team (or the media) of being unfair to the Yankees but this whole situation was handled so poorly it defies the imagination. Using a hurricane as a mechanism to hurt another team is just despicable.

  7. Betsy August 26th, 2011 at 11:00 pm

I don’t want the Yankees to cave on this……. and I hope the Steinbrenners don’t.

  8. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:00 pm

    why did mlb allow it?

  9. sammiejohnson August 26th, 2011 at 11:01 pm

trisha, that was 2003 I think.

The O’s had their chance to reschedule this thing and blew it. Now it should be played on our terms at YS3.

  10. blake August 26th, 2011 at 11:01 pm

The Orioles are a bush league bunch of punks

  11. Captain Clutch August 26th, 2011 at 11:02 pm

It’s just amazing that Selig couldn’t/didn’t get involved to schedule a DHer today

  12. Betsy August 26th, 2011 at 11:02 pm

MG, yep. That’s why I want the Yankees to forfeit ….they have to stand up to the bO’zos and MLB. It’s patently unfair……….take a stand, Yankees!

  13. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:02 pm

trisha, you are correct. There was an impending natural disaster and if the Yankees did not play, Yanks would have been forced to forfeit the game.

Then, there was an impending natural disaster in which the Rays might have had to forfeit a game at YS if they could not get there for game, but MLB forced a postponement.

The Yankees play the orioles at home on the 7th at 1PM. Why can’t they just play a DH that day in NY and split the gate? If they have to travel to Baltimore to play that game I agree with Betsy-better yet, have Burnett stay in Baltimore come out to home plate and give the umpire a blank line-up card!

  17. MTU August 26th, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Well if the Yankees didn’t agree to it I don’t see how it happens.

    Aren’t there 2 parties involved ?

A mutually agreeable decision should be arrived at.

    Seems simple enough.

    ;)

  18. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:04 pm

I agree with Betsy. Forfeit the 1 game and by doing that, Yanks send a message to MLB and to the Orioles and in the process, cost the Orioles 1 game’s ticket sales.

  19. Betsy August 26th, 2011 at 11:04 pm

YT, that would be funny, lol.

The Yankees are mad as hell and they aren’t going to take it anymore……..go Yanks!

  21. MG August 26th, 2011 at 11:06 pm

the right solution is one that Girardi mentioned after the game, schedule it the day after the season ends-this way it’s not played unless it’s necessary to determine the final standings.

  22. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:06 pm

The Yankees get walked all over by every other team and MLB the way Betsy gets walked all over on here. Seriously. LOL

  26. MTU August 26th, 2011 at 11:09 pm

    MG-

The RIGHT solution is a fair solution.

To be fair it has to be equitable to both parties involved. That means no undue suffering on either side.

If it isn’t something is wrong and it needs to be corrected.

And I hope it will be. It should be.

    ;)

  27. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:10 pm

lol mick. Betsy needs to start doing the walking. When she mans up and starts walking on us folks is when the Yankees will man up and start walking over others. Start hitting batters in retaliation for our batters being hit. Start moving batters off the plate with some chin music

  28. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 26th, 2011 at 11:10 pm

MTU – thanks. It’s nice to be around my friends again and sharing the Yankee experience. :)

I’ve battened down the hatches and am just waiting for the fun to begin. Definitely eerily the calm before the storm here. For most of the day, it was quite warm but dry. Suddenly the dew point is up to 74 degrees. So you know something ‘s on its way.

  29. Betsy August 26th, 2011 at 11:11 pm

The Orioles had no desire to be fair; they decided to do what they decided to do because they could – and because it would hurt the Yankees. What a punk move by a punk organization.

  30. MTU August 26th, 2011 at 11:11 pm

the right solution is one that Girardi mentioned after the game, schedule it the day after the season ends-this way it’s not played unless it’s necessary to determine the final standings.

The O’s don’t want that, because then they may not get the gate. That’s also why they want the doubleheader on Sunday, because on a weekend it’s easier to get people to a day game. That’s also why they want a night game on the 8th, because it’s a weekday. All this is about money, not necessarily screwing the Yankees.

  32. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:12 pm

  34. lil m August 26th, 2011 at 11:13 pm

Good on Joe for calling out the Orioles on their spiteful nonsense. Trisha, you’re right about this being the second time – the O’s pulled this stunt back in 2003 with MLB backing them up. Played in an empty park with the entire city closed down and a dangerous storm blowing into town. Had to call it off after 5 innings with a 1-1 tie and re-play the entire game later. Angelos & Co. are as foolish as they are petty and vindictive, and apparently have little regard for the safety of the players. Good to see the Yankees are fighting the rescheduling move.

Russell Martin gave a great, concise postgame analysis of what went wrong with AJ. When asked if he is one of the “long list of people mystified by why he’s [AJ's] not better than he is” given his “great stuff”, Martin calmly responded “Mystified? Well, today was simple, it was command. I mean, you have great stuff, but if you don’t have your command, it doesn’t matter how good your stuff is, really. You get anybody in a situation where they’re 2-0 or 3-1, and the guy could be throwing 105, it doesn’t matter. If you know a fastball is coming, you’re going to be able to hit it.” Pretty much says it all.

sammie and jacob, I seem to remember the Yankees sitting on a bus somewhere in Baltimore for a long time because they couldn’t get out of there due to the hurricane (?). The whole situation was a mess!

I didn’t realize it was that long ago!

    A bit of positive news.

    Andrew Brackman, RHP: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K’s, 3-1 GO/FO –29 of his 45 pitches were strikes. Since Brackman “reevaluated” his delivery, he has a 1.76 ERA, a 0.587 WHIP, 8.8 K/ 9, and a 7.5 K/BB in 15.1 IP. He’s making a case for a September call up.

  40. MG August 26th, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Burnett admitted in the post game interview he no longer can get away with bad pitches-he said, ‘when I threw 97-98 I could get outs when I missed location badly but I don’t throw that hard anymore and have to locate better’.

The guy knows he sucks and can’t win with the way he’s pitching, it doesn’t mean he deserves to stay in the rotation but at least he’s being honest.

I know this may sound crazy, but I think there’s a bit of adventure in being involved in a hurricane (especially a category 1-2). I pray for everyone’s safety and that there is not death or major destruction (tree branches on the front lawn is doable.) Maybe the howling winds and driving rain are throwbacks to when I was able to observe with fascination but at the same time feel protected by a mother and father whom I believed to be invincible.

Duquette dismissed it because his velo is only down .4 mph or something from last year and he was quote ” good last year” …..no joke.

    Trisha

When I was younger I thought hurricanes were cool because they cancelled school and we got to go outside and play in the rain. We used to get on our bikes and ride around the neighborhood surveying the damage. What was not fun was when they told us they were canceling school on friday on wednesday and then thursday night after packing and worrying all day thursday it would change path and we would get nothing. After the 4th time this happened we never took hurricane warnings seriously.

I hope it changes course but as soon as that happens no one in New England will ever take another hurricane warning serious again.

  83. Barry August 26th, 2011 at 11:38 pm

    Betsy–

Of course, but not at the expense of integrity. The team, or its representatives must show. The public will get it. In Baltimore, and everywhere else. And, it might be a good game. All those who are interested in Montero, and others, willget a good look. No harm done. The Yanks go to post-season, and O’s sadly, go home. Sadly, because this was once a great franchise, and not too long ago.

No hypocrisy at all. There are rules on this blog. You constantly ignore them and are a constant troublemaker. An example is politics, there is no politics on this blog yet you feel you can bring the subject up whenever you feel like it. Guess what I say no you can’t.

You have been banned from the DN blog for doing the same thing, that you are doing here.

Enough is enough. Just because Lohud (for whatever reason) chooses to ignore you’re disruptive ways, doesn’t mean I have to.

As long as you continue to troll on this blog,I am going to harass you and be as disruptive as you are. Maybe Lohud will get the message and do something about it.

And Mick you really need to grow up. But I can see the attraction to WCYF because you both have the same immaturity level.

    bah humbug.

I think if it is an afternoon game no problem. But if they insist on a PM game before a WC trip the Yankees should just forfeit it. Not sure what penalties would ensue. Would Baltimore be able to claim damages (lost revenues)?. This probably does not amount to much.

  88. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:43 pm

mick, I made that up myself. As in Joe Shmoe. Shmo-rioles.

‘You were there in the afternoon. What it but a mirage?’

    About this afternoon:

There seemed to be a nice discussion going. But if you have spent anytime around here you realize it’s a mirage. WCYF can’t behave for more than a few hours of time. As evidenced by some of his posts tonight.

He is trying to manipulate some of you into thinking he’s a good guy, because he knows I am having an effect on his run here. Guess what, it’s not going to work.

The only negativity I read was Mick trying to stir the pot. Obsession perfume was brought up as a joke, but it fits.

  92. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:47 pm

if i stalked someone for 2 years or one day i would be an idiot
    but i haven’t
i just responded to things and have stopped if you haven’t noticed
bc there has been an agreement reached

  93. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:48 pm

tar you are a straw man and will disappear in time
but nice try in a vain attempt to restore order where none is needed.

    what doesn’t make sense?

that stalking a women for over two years on a public forum indicates you are an idiot?

Or that making a comment to Tar worthy of a two year old is stupid even for an idiot like yourself?

  95. Tar August 26th, 2011 at 11:51 pm

“i just responded to things and have stopped if you haven’t noticed
bc there has been an agreement reached”

By all accounts you have swapped Betsy for GB.

How many GB related posts did you make today mick? Why ? For what purpose?

  96. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:52 pm

tar, gb made an idiotic remark and i followed up, simple
he stirred the pot and got attention
    hypocritical

  97. Tar August 26th, 2011 at 11:54 pm

    Mick

Unless I am banned, or somebody else comes to restore order, I am not going anywhere.

  98. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:55 pm

    why would you be banned?

  99. Jacob Ruppert August 26th, 2011 at 11:58 pm

GB is an idiot. That is the reason for the mick comments. Tar, what exactly do you think you are affecting and how exactly are you affecting the run, as you put it, of WCYF? WCYF does not commit egregious acts on this blog. There have been a few instances. Racism, Blog Terrorism, but WCYF fits neither of those categories.

  100. mick August 26th, 2011 at 11:58 pm

while you think that one over i will say C Yaaaaaaaaa

  101. Tar August 26th, 2011 at 11:59 pm

    MG

I am curious, was it Feinsand who banned WCYF? And what was his screen name over there?

  102. mick August 27th, 2011 at 12:01 am

jake tar seems to have awoken from a deep sleep with a higher purpose
    a man on a mission…

  103. Tar August 27th, 2011 at 12:03 am

Jacob the people who matter know exactly what I am talking about.

Or, In other words you don’t matter.

You keep attacking GB while he’s not around, and expect me to have a conversation with you. Not happening “idiot”.

  104. mick August 27th, 2011 at 12:03 am

i asked him why he would be banned 10 minutes ago and he can’t come up with an answer

  105. BTX August 27th, 2011 at 12:03 am

Why don’t the Yanks and Os play at a neutral site like when the Astros/Cubs played in Milwaukee?

Let them play in Tampa or Houston or some other vacated stadium

  106. mick August 27th, 2011 at 12:04 am

    its ok when gb attacks?

  107. Jerkface August 27th, 2011 at 12:04 am

Racism, Blog Terrorism, but WCYF fits neither of those categories.

  108. Tar August 27th, 2011 at 12:06 am

I choose not to play your childish games.

  109. mick August 27th, 2011 at 12:06 am

    you cant handle the truth

  110. BD (Boston Dave) August 27th, 2011 at 12:10 am

“Rather than forfeit, the Yanks can play with what would essentially be the second team.”

    ————

I’d prefer the Yankees make a statement by just not showing up.

If people are gonna walk all over you, you need to take a stand…. otherwise you can’t get mad when they continue to do it.

    Eff the Orioles.

    Eff MLB.

  111. yankee 221 August 27th, 2011 at 12:11 am

Forfeiting sounds like a great idea.

    Selig would lose it.

  112. UnKnown August 27th, 2011 at 12:12 am

So what are they going to do when one of the games on Sunday gets rained out too.

Let me guess lets play on the 15th on our way back from out west in Seattle. Might as well book end the entire West Coast Trip by playing the pathetic Birds.

This entire situation and make up games scenario has snowballed out of control. Extremely disappointed in MLB for not stepping up and invoking some common sense in the situation.

Can’t figure out what is more screwed up. These make up dates or AJ staying in the rotation?
    Insanity on both counts.

  113. Tar August 27th, 2011 at 12:13 am

“If people are gonna walk all over you, you need to take a stand…. otherwise you can’t get mad when they continue to do it.”

    Good one BD.

Hope you don’t mind, I am going to borrow it as my new blog motto.

  114. UnKnown August 27th, 2011 at 12:14 am

I remember WCYF getting banned by Feinsand as well. He had totally sabotaged that entire blog.

For the life of me I can’t remember his screen name though. It was like Adolph Apache or something.

  115. Jacob Ruppert August 27th, 2011 at 12:14 am

Tar, I have no desire to carry on conversation with people that do not want to carry conversation with myself. I will let you in on a not so well kept secret. You are not a knight in shining armor and you will not affect anybody’s posting behavior. We will continue to post the way we choose to post and as long as there are no egregious circumstances, we will all stick around.

  116. UnKnown August 27th, 2011 at 12:15 am

    Or Redfish

  117. yankee 221 August 27th, 2011 at 12:15 am

How is it that the Red Sox and Phillies have not rescheduled their afternoon games tomorrow?

Philly canceled the nightcap of their DH, the Sox are still scheduled to play at 5 PM the 2nd game.

  118. sammiejohnson August 27th, 2011 at 12:19 am

I think the sux are hoping it is going to take longer to get up the coast. But I wouldn’t count on it.

  119. Tar August 27th, 2011 at 12:24 am

Thanks Unknown. Aldo is on this blog and is a great guy. Has had numerous run ins with the dimwit himself.

  120. BD (Boston Dave) August 27th, 2011 at 12:26 am

lol, sure Tar – you can borrow it ;)

  121. letsgoos August 27th, 2011 at 1:25 am

If things are looking good with the standings, just use the 40man roster and send your aaa guys to baltimore, give the veterans a day off. hell, send the entire trenton thunder team down. 1 1/2 train ride from trenton.

You can’t blame the orioles for not wanting to lose a gate. Would the yankees ever give up a gate?
